Zionsville High School - New Fieldhouse
Zionsville, IN
When Zionsville Community Schools wanted to expand its high school to include a new field house, Fanning Howey designed an addition that is more than a place for recreation.
The expansion space includes a large commons area and a learning center to support the new field house, weight and fitness facilities. The commons is ideal for group meetings, athletic team gatherings and surge space for athletic events. A new entrance provides students with direct access to the Activity Center.
The use of a very economical load bearing insulated concrete wall panel system yielded additional budget flexibility. Fanning Howey designers used these savings to develop targeted renovations to convert underutilized interior space within the high school into a lecture hall, vocal and instrumental studios and additional classroom space within the overall project budget.

Wellness Center Addition
Lakeside-Marblehead, OH
The Danbury school facility has been added onto and renovated many times, leading to a very puzzling facility.
It was determined that something needed to be done as their facility was not serving all of their needs. After community engagement sessions, a master facility plan was established to correspond with the district's strategic plan.
Phase I involves a new free-standing wellness center which includes two courts, a 2-lane walking track, fold-out bleachers for 240 spectators, a large weight/fitness room with three overhead doors that open to the courts, four locker rooms (accessible from the outside), restrooms, small ticket office/window, and a concession area with three sinks and space for various pieces of equipment. Also, adding an elementary gymnasium to the existing building includes a rock climbing wall. Sitework consists of a new playground with a monolithic play surface close to the gym addition, a tennis/pickleball court close to the new wellness center, and an expansion of the current parking lot.
