With the stark contrast to the visually rigid and inpenetrable exterior facade of the hotel, the interior gardens and pool area are envisioned as a lush tropical oasis. With six meter tall living green walls separating the hotel garden from the neighbouring street and buildings, the area is shielded off both visualy as well as acoustically. Lush greenery is providing a serene backdrop and softens the modular prefabricated concrete facade. The swimming pool spans across the entire length of the inner courtyard and is flanked by the signature restaurants of the hotel providing next to water seating experience. The pool is concieved with a beach edge on one side with randomly placed giant pebles reminiscing natural beaches of tropical islands.

Interior Spaces The appearance of interior spaces varies greatly from day time to night time. During the day, when most of the time is focused on the outdoors, one can appreciate the natural properties of the raw materials with ample natural day light pouring in through the windows. At night the spaces are flooded with warm artificial light providing a cozy and comfortable environment for the guests.

Parizska 25 Luxury Mall The building is located on the most prominent luxury shopping street in Prague, Parizska Street 25; in the heart of the old historcal city center. Location: Prague, Szech Category: Mixed Use Year: 2017 - Prposal Task: Full development of the projects including shape study, modeling and layput studies.
The building attracts the most sofisticated customers; be it for luxury retail and F&B or private living on of the most sought after addresses. The building is surrounded by two small squares - one formed by the Faculty of Law facing the river and one by the adjacent Intercontinental Hotel. Main facades with prominent views are both facing NE and NW thus allowing maximum use of glass without negative impacts of solar glare and heat gains.

The architectural materials of the residential scheme are kept to a limited few finishes - white rendered facade walls and curved terrace profiles, glas balustrades, windows and metal tube cladding. Tube cladding is used both for privacy reasons as well as reduction of extent of glazing on the sides of the building facing neghbouring plots with dense built up structures. Furthermore the tubular cladding set in front of the south facing facade is helping shade the solid walls and keep the space between them naturally ventilated keeping the building cooler. South facing glazed facade of Building B is achieving the shading of the glazed walls via projecting balcony slabs that are blocking the high positioned sun during peak hours of the day.

Location: Zadar, Croatia Category: Residential Year: 2016 - Under Process Task: Full development of the projects including view and area studies and shape study, modeling and layput studies.
The plot is located between the new hotel and retail components of the Maraska development neighbouring the beautiful Maraska Park located on the coast of central Zadar on Obala Kneza Trpimira. The plot is visually connected to the Zadar old town peninsula and the Adriatic Sea. This is one of the most prominent locations of the city and is visible to all tourists and visitors arriving by sea either to the yacht marina or the luxury cruise ship port. The project envisages a development of a luxury residential component.

The facades should be treated with suitable materials whilst providing shade and ventilation to solid structures and interiors. Views Open the building towards views of the sea and the park and connect the project with the new development of the Hotel and Retail segments. Towards the north and densely populated neighbouring plots the building should be more closed and protected.
Sun and Sustainability The entire plot has unobstructed sun light during the entire duration of the day. It is important to provide ample daylight to the residents whilst minimizing direct sun exposure and solar heat gains in order to increase the comfort levels of the residents and reduce the energy consumption of the building.
Greenery Connecting the inner courtyard and the residents to the adjacent greenery of the Maraska park and future Hotel. Access Main vehicular access to the development leads from the Ul. Miroslava Krleze and Obala Kneza Trpimira. Both highly frequented routs leading to the centre of the city and the old historical peninsula.

Maraska Residential Creating a community The shape of the buildings is governed by the site analysis and orientation towards best views and sun direction whilst also creating a sanctuary between them. The idea of the scheme is to create a private and spacious inner courtyard that is protected by the two flanking curved volumes thus creating a community of its own focused on the landscape of the adjacent Maraska park as well as the views of the sea. Focusing on the views The aim is to use the site benefits to the advantage of the residents - provide beautiful views of the old city, the park and the sea and consider the constraints (densely built up areas adjacent to site) that need to be shielded off. The facades are split in two areas based on the privacy and view requirements. Towards the sea and the inner courtyards the facades should be fully glazed and open whilst the facades facing the neighbouring plots with existing buildings are to be more private and opaque to provide enough privacy and shield the community.

Croatian coast is recognisable for its arche lined streets and colonades starting from Istria, across Dalmatia with cities like Zadar and Split and reaching all the way down south to Dubrovnik. The ancient buildings were built using local white limestone and marble material that has remeined popular until today due to its high quality and natural appearance.

Maraska Retail The architectural materials are kept to a neutral yet rich and luxurious palette of natural materials like stone, metal and glass. The materials are timeless and durable and will ensure the buldings lasting appearance over the years. The main walls as well as the entry tunnels are treated with natural limestone quaried locally. The stone is of a light beige colour and changes appearance with the time of the day following the sun. The main facades are all exposed to ample natural sun light all day long thus allowing the building to addapt its appearance to the environment. Main arches and windows are framed with patinated metal cladding adding richness and sharpness to the architecture and framing the shop windows and F&B outlets.

Office Building
Office Building Location: DIFC, Dubai, UAE Category: Commercial Year: 2014 - 2015 Task: Concept, Sketchup modeling, floor plans..
Occupying the last vacant plot in Gate Village, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), this scheme contains offices and high-end F&B. It was conceived as an extension of the existing development yet required a different approach due to its position at an intersection, with views towards Emirates Towers. Lacasa’s design fused the different architectural languages of the surrounding buildings; the end result is a powerful blue-glass mass with an alternating modular pattern, overlapped by an outer skin of granite, mullions and screens. An abstraction of the DIFC logo was integrated into the structure of the building – a stylised and visually powerful V-shape column carries the main glass mass at the front façade. The client brief required maximisation of the floor plate – this presented a challenge due to the irregular geometry of the site.We were requested to come out with 3 different options of faccades, one to be identical to the existing architectural style, another one to be a bit different with a mix of modern touchous, and the third one to be iconic and different from the surrounding urban fabric. In order to fit within the urban context, designers camouflaged the shape, giving the different impressions of the proposed buildings.

My task was to come up with the iconic option and try to link it cohisively to the surrounding area. So in order to make that achieveable, I had to make the form follow the shape of the adjacent buildings by replacing the stone screening with the crossed structural system, and duplicating the glazing in order to increase the thermal isolation. That structure was adapted from the main gate building in the DIFC and to reflect the identity of the area.

Furnished Apartments
Furnished Apartments Location: Business Bay, Dubai, UAE Category: Hospitality Year: 2013 - 2014 Task: Concept, Revit modeling, floor plans..
Situated in Business Bay, with prized views of the Burj Khalifa, this contemporary-styled tower features 300 apartments with retail elements on the ground floor. The client requested luxuriouslysized apartments, with extensive glazing and balconies to capitalise on views, while accommodating the maximum number of units within the tower. Priority was given to the threebedroom apartments, which occupy the top levels and enjoy the best views of Burj Khalifa. An initial challenge was the site’s slope of 8m, yet this was used to the project’s advantage to gain extra GFA on one side. A podium was used to house the parking, pool and gym, with the recreational areas also overlooking the Burj. Lacasa’s architects used a ‘contemporary local’ design language, and the material palette of glazing, paint, plaster, solid walls and metal screens is in keeping with other buildings in the area. A curved façade adds panache and dynamism to the overall composition.

One of the most challenging aspects of this project was the huge GFA that we were required to fit in the plot, and to make the building look as slim and delicate as possible. So I had make a special treatment for the facades which is adding different layers while keeping in mind the efficiency and total construction cost. The landscape design was inspired by the layered facade as well as the idea of keeping the gym opened up to the pool. Moreover the different levels that allows all passersby have a view over the pool.

So we thought of the local woven fabrics and used the shape in the plans design taking into consideration the different levels of the natural land, while maintaining as much as possible of the shape of the real ground,in order to achieve a greener design. While utilizing the natural resources of the area.

Using the main concept of the woven fabrics in the plans had to be reflected in a way or another on the facades themselves. The outdoor amphitheater was carved into the natural contour lines in order to make use of the sloping lands and was partly hid under the building itself to provide some protection.

Location: Mirdif, Dubai Category: Residential Year: 2011 - 2012 Task: Concept, Sketchup modeling, floor plans..
The Sheikh Jawaan Street masterplan was conceived in response to the client brief to address the need for a new dynamic master plan that interacts with the future mega park, and add to the street’s existing significance. The project was studied and analyzed in terms of context & urban relationship, massing, zoning, and vehicular & pedestrian circulation. The plot location described in the brief text is 143,000m2, where as in the brief diagram it spans all the way from Al Sadd sreet up to Al Rayyan Street, with a width of around 190m. This amounts to around 239’000m2, and it was this latter size of the plot that was referred to for the development of the project, as in our view it reflected more closely the intent of the client. The masterplan proposed is a dialogue between the two distinct faces of the project: the plots to face the future mega park on the West, and the plots facing the Sheikh Jawaan Street on the East.

Location: Mirdif, Dubai Category: Residential Year: 2012 - 2013 Task: Concept, Sketchup modeling, floor plans..
The client design brief for the resort project was to create a balance in the design between Omani Arabesque style on one hand, and a fresh contemporary style on the other. The designer’s approach was to achieve a balance between simple white rendered masses, ornamented and filtered by dark timber framework – intended to abstractly resemble ‘mashrabiyyas’. The facade facing the highway is more solid, and its main entrance is marked with an Omani arched porte cochere. The sea facing façade, on the other hand, opens up in its rhythmical treatment to create more views to the sea. The main massing housing the reception acts as a focal point for the overall resort, and is subtly differentiated in its design treatment, and is further highlighted via a grand contemporary archway which is ornamented with a timber arabesque screen.

My mission was to do an efficient yet creative plan and to be able to achieve the same concept in the facades by using the requested materials. Having the masterplan located this openly i had to make sure two things are checked, privacy, yet open sea view over the beautiful scenes of the Musandam.
