Gail Bowman, Steven david brandon,
September is one of the warmest months of the year here in sunny San Diego. I love to take advantage of beautiful weather by pairing fall fashion must-haves with my summer favorites. No need to shove those summer dresses and tiny little skirts to the back of the closet just yet! Au contraire, add your favorite pair of booties and the perfect autumn purse to that summer outfit and you’re in business! For students, being back at school can be a very exciting time of the year. In the fall, schools host cultural events, lectures and opportunities to meet new people that are not available during the summer months. Make sure to take advantage of everything your college has to offer as these are the best years to try new things and discover who you really are. The combination of warm days and cool nights makes September the perfect month to start a new romance. Keep your eyes peeled for the right man but remember to stay focused on your own, individual goals as well. Balance is the key to life and there are always great opportunities to find it. So get out there ladies and best of luck!

Baseball AND HANGS favorite places to eat, chill and play By Alex McNair
Dragon's Den before and
after padres game hangout
Not far from the gates of Petco Park is Dragon’s Den, a fabulous destination for pre-game appetizers or post-game drinks. The Asian-fusion menu has a variety of dishes that can be ordered and shared at the table. Although a full sushi menu is offered, there are plenty of options to please every taste. Dragon’s Den has an outdoor patio with full dining available which enables others to imbibe in the warmth of San Diego’s warm evening weather. The interior of Dragon’s Den is welcoming and decorated to feel like the restaurant is entertaining Asian royalty. The bartenders, who are young, attractive and friendly, bustle around the wrap-around bar for hours during the pregame rush. The sushi bar is in the back room and allows diners to view the sushi chefs, who diligently slice and roll beneath the high defini-
tion televisions displaying current scores and the opening pitch. Happy Hour is extended longer than many other downtown locales and runs weekdays from 2-7. The longer Happy Hour allows time for a late lunch with girlfriends or early evening munchies with a date. On game days, Chicken Gyoza, California rolls and draft beers are offered at four bucks a pop making downtown dining pleasantly affordable. In addition to a delicious variety of Asian inspired appetizers and entrées, Dragon’s Den has an exciting list of cocktails as well including the refreshing, cucumber infused Spatini. On weekends the Den offers guests a “Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary & Champagne Bar” starting at 11am, making it a reasonable and fun location for everyone.

Petco Park And it's outta here!
Petco Park flipped the switch on the San Diego baseball scene when it opened in the East Village of downtown in 2004. A highlight for tourists and destination for locals, Petco Park offers a variety of activities for family and friends including picnic spots, a Little League infield and the Western Metal Supply Building. Situated against the backdrop of our San Diego skyline, Park at the Park hosts groups of friends socializing and families picnicking and playing and has also been utilized for events like Beer Fest. Tickets at the park run pretty cheap while still offering the ballpark experience. Spectators can get an up-close look at their favorite players from “The Beach” behind the right field fence during batting practice before the games. Downtown can be busy enough on any given day. On game day, remember to coordinate with public transportation if possible. For about five bucks you can hop on the trolley and save yourself the trouble of scouring the streets for parking!

school rules tips and etiquette for dating your co-eds during the school year
1 3 5 2 4 By Jillian marie Dyer
1 Stay Focused
A new school year means new boys! But don’t get too carried away and caught up on finding a boyfriend. Remember, did you go to school for an education or romance? Being a good student doesn’t mean you have to drop off the face of the earth and transform into a total bookworm. You can still have your cake and eat it too, just as long as you learn how to balance your time wisely. If you don’t have a daily planner it could benefit you to go buy one right away. This notebook will be a lifesaver when it comes to juggling social events, work and school.
2 Dress to Impress Go shopping! Yes, you have been given permission to go do what us girls do best! Define your own style and impress your friends and your crush with a new wardrobe. It’s time to stop putting on clothes just because they’re convenient and instead highlighting your best features. Getting ready for that back to school “hey look at me” look doesn’t have to be expensive. Usually the weather is pretty hot when school begins, so a cute summer dress would be the perfect way to stand out!
3 Avoid Gossip
Is gossiping a fun social thing to do with your friends? Instead of talking about other people’s lives, start living your own! People who gossip do it simply out of boredom and to make themselves feel superior. If a friend tells you she heard your boyfriend went on a date with another girl, don’t automatically assume it was true and start calling him frantically. Even though your friend is trying to be helpful, a lot of times the rumor will be false and twisted. Just ask questions to find out the facts without giving yourself up!
4 PDA 101
When publicly displaying your affection, one walks a very fine line. We all know what it is and how awkward it can be when couples engage in it. Keep it PG-13 for everyone’s sake! When you’re out-andabout other people can see you, such as your English professor or your boss at work. If you want people to know you are together, holding hands is a perfect way to broadcast your affection.
5 Be Yourself
Conformity in school is very common because often time’s people are afraid to be different. Well don’t be scared because individuality is hot! It’s great to have friends but be a leader, not the follower. For creative folks, get involved with a writing group or join a band. Even if unsure, one can get out there and meet people to discover their own interests. Who knows, maybe you will find something you like! Explore to have something interesting to bring up in conversation. This is not only crowd pleaser – it is impressive to your crush as well.
Bonus tip: Don't date people in your dorm. If you break up, you're going to be stuck with each other for the rest of the year.

esha Rose Sebert, known today as “Ke$ha,” is not one to be missed or overlooked with talented performances that scream party, glitter and boys. Two years ago after appearing on Flo Rida’s hit single “Right Round,” Ke$ha remains in the spotlight as one of the hottest new touring acts in America.
Ke$ha’s appearance on Right Round happened in 2009, when she walked in on a recording session for the song with Flo Rida and Dr. Luke. Dr. Luke recommended that Ke$ha perform the female vocal. She nailed the song and they ended up doing two more tracks together, however, she was not credited for the song, nor did she receive any money. She also refused to appear in the video, explaining to the New York Times that “if you want to be a legitimate artist, it’s more important what you say no to. I knew he would want me to be some sexpot, shake my booty, and whatever.” Later that year, she released her single "Tik Tok" which reached number one in 11 countries. In 2010 she expanded her debut album Animal into a new version titled Cannibal, where tracks such as "Cannibal", "We R Who We R", "Sleazy" and "Blow" were added.
Now, Ke$ha is busy with her first concert tour, the Get $leazy Tour. Ke$ha described her inspiration for her tour during an interview for Billboard Magazine, stating “It’s a ridiculously fun dance party that will build on the energetic sets [I] played while opening for Rihanna last summer.” She elaborated, “Visually it will just be assaulting and sonically it will be assaulting. It’s just going to be an assault of all your senses, but it’s going to be really, really, really can be the most raw and visceral version of themselves and not be judged.” Among her opening acts will be 3OH!3, LMFAO and Spank Rock. Ke$ha’s Get $leazy Tour comes to San Diego on September 18.
In a 2010 interview with British entertainment Web site Digital Spy, Ke$ha stated “People get so pretentious about pop music so I do feel like I’m fighting this battle. My record is honest and fun. It’s a celebration of youth and life and going out and getting crazy. I’m about non-pretentious irreverence and… good fun!” In 2010, she won an award for “Best New Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards and this year, she has been nominated this year for 25 music awards, including American Music Awards’ “Artist of the Year,” and MTV Video Music Awards’ “Best Female Video” for "Tik Tok". Although she did not win at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, Ke$ha did have four nominations including “Top New Artist” and “Top Female Artist.”

This roaring 20’s with flapper girl style consists of skirts and dresses, pieces with sparkle embellishments, and ultra highwaist pants and skirts. The other look, boho grunge, is a mixed look inspired by the Egyptians and Navahos, pulling from the key points of spirituality. With this you’ll find bold head pieces and jewelry, fringe tops and accessories, flowy backless tops, and items with bold Indian symbols and feathers.

8Detox ways to
In today’s advanced world, our immune systems are bombarded with artificial toxins and pollutants. Try one of these eight ways to detoxify your body to help reduce the amount of toxins and pollution in your body. by Micah Skye, L.N.M.T., N.C.
1 Eat Healthy Diet plays a key role in the process of detox. You have heard the phrase "You are what you eat." Vegetarian diets are the best way to naturally detox the body due to the fact that meat takes a lot of energy and enzymes to digest. Vegetables and fruits contain high amounts of anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals and enzymes that help to cleanse the body. Steering clear of food and drink with high fructose corn syrup will also rapidly detoxify your body.
2 Detox Baths Salt baths are an excellent way to detoxify the body! Salt helps to clear toxins and lactic acid out of the body through the skin, which helps eliminate aches in the muscles. This inexpensive and fun treatment is recommended once a week while cleansing or detoxing your body.
3 Sweat it Out
health
6 Herbal Teas
Your Body
One of the most effective ways to remove toxins from the body is by sweating them out. The high temperatures in saunas, steam rooms and sweat lodges cause muscles to relax which allow cells in the muscles to release toxins they hold when tense. Sweat is a natural way for your body to rid itself of toxins and can also be done through exercise!
4 A Tongue Cleanse This one might sound strange at first, but when you go to sleep at night, your body goes into a deep state of healing and works to remove toxins through your tongue. When you wake up with bad breath it is a sign that toxins have been released through your tongue. This can be seen in varying colors also. It is important to clean your tongue in the morning before eating breakfast to avoid re-ingesting such toxic waste.
5 The Juice Fast Drinking vegetable and fruit juices are not only very cleansing and healthy, but they are full of anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals and enzymes, which are very important for helping the body to detoxify and cleanse.
Herbal teas play a key role in the process of a juice fast. Herbal teas that help cleanse the body also facilitate the healing process. Some great herbal teas for detoxing include dandelion, fennel, licorice, ginger, cayenne, peppermint, goldenseal, juniper berry, chamomile and red clover.
7 Detoxifying Herbs There is a broad spectrum of herbs or herb supplements one can take to help detox the body. Great options include dandelion, goldenseal, milk thistle, neem, anantmul, tulsi and manjistha. The last four in that list are popular ayurvedic herbs that act as overall organ cleansers and tonics, specifically activating the kidneys, liver, pancreas and gall bladder.
8 Take a Foot Bath A powerful outlet for detoxification is through the feet. Detoxifying footbaths are inexpensive, enjoyable and easy. Another wonderfully easy way to detoxify while you sleep is by using a detox foot pouch. This is a wonderful method used in Asian cultures. Simply stated, it is a small pouch filled with mandarin wood vinegar, tourmaline and germanium. When placed on the foot the pouch creates a chemical reaction that causes the pouch to emit far infrared energy that stimulates the body's meridians and circulation of blood and lymph, detoxing and re-stimulating the body.

Fall skin Tips to keep your skin soft, smooth and supple all season long
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 available at Nordstrom, $29.50
By Morgan Ferrari
Although the leaves aren’t changing and the grass isn’t waning, everyone knows that winter is coming. Even though it seems to creep up out of nowhere and it isn’t noticeable quite yet, your skin may have a different opinion. Welcome to fall, the perfect time to make the transition to change up your daily skin routine. Follow these two tips that are all about being preventative, saving your from performing damage control later. With the right skin prevention you can be assured great skin all winter long.
1 2 3 1 The easiest way to amp up your defense is through moisturizing. Using the same moisturizer during the summer and fall and winter months is like wearing a tank top during a rainstorm – it’s ineffective and irresponsible. Also, don’t confuse weight for moisture. Just because the texture is thick and creamy doesn’t mean that it will keep your skin from losing its hydration. A universal moisturizer that’s great for all skin types is Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30. It’s oil free, but uses a total soy complex that will help even out skin tone and lock in moisture.
aveeno positively radiant daily moisturizer spf 30 available at Target, $14.99
Skin Perfect Pore Refining Perfecting Moisturizer by Dior available at Sephora, $65.00
2 Even though it’s getting colder out, that doesn’t mean those harmful UV rays have disappeared, so make sure to keep the protection going. Another recommendation is an old school favorite, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15. It’s been around for ages and rightfully so. The lotion is packed with healthy plant oils that are not only natural, but also some of the most effective occlusives which are the ingredients that increase the water content of the skin by slowing the evaporation of water from its surface.
Lancôme 'Exfoliance Clarté' Clarifying Exfoliating Gel available at Nordstrom, $25
3 Another way to prep your skin for the harsh, upcoming months is by ex-
foliating. Your skin is going to be sensitive, so try less abrasive products for daily scrubs, or use a full-on scrub once a week. An award winning Beauty product to try is Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment. This product is known for Its signature ingredients that are full of Microbeads and Fruit Enzymes that gently scrub to safely lift dead skin cells. If you are looking for another at home spa-worthy treatment, try Lancome's Exfoliance Clarte.
Nobody likes dry, flaky skin, so by making these two minor changes you’ll be able to keep your summer skin and confidence intact.
Bonus Tip: Daily cleansing with a natural facial brush also helps keep skin soft and supple, prepping it for all other topical treatments.
