What a year it has been. It may be cliché, but we cannot help but reflect on the truly incredible year that 2016 has been. Through all of the successes and setbacks, there was a lot to be proud of. At MOST, we are proud to hit our two-year milestone. Together we have been able to accomplish a lot, and we thank you for joining us along the way. This latest fashion issue is no different. As we transition into the New Year, we are reflective of the fashion trends of the past year and looking toward the fresh new looks of 2017. Sharing these fashions with you, we are focused on fashion and art, and fashion as art. Our first look at this artistry is with Viviana Soldano FaBrizio. no stranger around MOST and we are excited to have her return to our fashion issue. Viviana’s passion for charity work is among one of the many reasons we love her. Any issues of this issue of MOST magazine sold through her website will help benefit her charity Amore For Dogs. We continually inspired by Viviana’s work and could not wait to get her back in our magazine. An exciting, creative and artistic addition to our winter issue is ‘International Photographer of the Year,’ Kristi Sutton Elias. We sat down with Krista to pick her brain to learn about her early start with cameras and connecting with her models. Her underwater photography is breathtaking, do not take our word for it just take a look for yourself. Not only did we pick her brain, but you should make sure to ask how you can learn from her!

A model of Latvian descent, she started her career as a teenager and passionately pursued work through her schooling. Photographers that are the definition of art. We are thrilled to feature the work of Eric Ouaknine, Alee’ Hassan and William Setiawan. Did you start photography working with a digital camera? Did you have any experience with film photography as well?

I graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara in 1998. I come from the days of film, starting with film and used large format Horseman 4x5 camera, medium format Hasselblad & Mamiya cameras and a Canon 35 mm camera. Do you remember your first Camera and lens? What do you use today and why?

Yes, my first camera was a 35 mm Canon camera when I was in high school. Today I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR Camera with a 24-70 lens for in-studio and a 60mm lens for underwater. Â

Do you have preference for outdoor or

How do you connect with your models

studio photography?

posing underwater?

I like both on location and in-studio photography. Lately I have preferred in studio sessions since I like to do a lot of creative composites and editing to create Masterpiece portraits, and that is easier for me to achieve in a controlled studio setting.

I connect with my models by talking to them above water before each time we go under. I go over the pose to do, how far to go underwater, what is and isn’t working and what we can do to make it work better or easier. We normally go under for 10 seconds at a time, before we come up and go over the next pose.

Your images possess special lighting, how long did it take you to develop your skills?

I prefer more dramatic lighting for my portraits, I feel it gives my portraits more of a 3 dimensional look. My lighting is part of my style, I have explored different lighting types and styles throughout my 19 years as a professional photographer. I believe I started using and mastering my current lighting style that defines my images about 8 years ago. You shot the cover of our current issue; what’s the most challenging aspects of underwater photography?

Underwater photography is a completely different animal when compared to above water. Some of the biggest challenges are making sure the water is clean. Debris in the pool even fine debris will make the water look murky and will cause focusing problems, not to mention a lot more work in editing. Teaching models how to pose and relax underwater is also a big challenge. It is natural for people even those who are good swimmers to do the puffer fish cheeks while trying to hold their breath. It is also important to teach clients and models how to be aware of all their body parts underwater, and to think like a ballerina.

How much time do you spend on retouching?

A LOT! I spend most of my time doing creative edits to create the artwork you see in my work and portfolio. An easy way to explain it, is to think about when a painter draws a sketch on a canvas before painting his masterpiece. When I photograph my clients it’s the same as the painter drawing the sketch, then the artwork and concepts keep building from there.

How do you channel different mediums

How do you describe your style?

and your artistic vision in Photoshop?

My style of photography is very fine art with an old world renaissance type feel created with a modern twist. I have a very chiaroscuro type of look to my work, I like dramatic lighting style and bold muted colors.

I have a background in multiple mediums of art, oil painting and charcoal paintings are two of my favorite. I use a lot of the skills I learned in oil painting in my editing. Including painting and drawing parts of my backgrounds in Photoshop for my composite works of art.

What parts of your work do you enjoy the most and what are your greatest stresses at work?

The part of my work I enjoy the most is coming up with concepts meeting and talking with my clients, I always have a great time during my shoots. My number one favorite has to be creating the final artwork in Photoshop, that’s when all the time, connections and ideas come to life. The most stressful part would be overbooking myself and feeling overwhelmed by impending deadlines. Finding a perfect balance between time, life and work is always the challenge. What impact has your family had on your motivation and desire to pursue photography as a career?

I have been an artist my entire life, when I was 16 in high school I decided that photography would be the most lucrative business for an artist. The last thing your parents want to hear is that you are going to be an artist for your career. All my cousins were going to be accountants that is more what your parents want to hear. Being told this is not a career you can make a living at, always motivated me to prove everyone wrong. In the end my parents were supportive and are proud of my accomplishments. As far as my husband and son go, well they didn’t have much of a choice, I have been a professional photographer for years before they existed in my life :) Owning my own photography business has worked out great for us as a family since I am incharge of my own schedule.

Tell us about some of your most recent projects?

I shoot about 4 photo sessions a week, my most interesting one last week was I shot the CD cover for a band called “The Ninja Sex Party” Have you ever heard of them? I was laughing at the name when they called me and YouTubed them, they are unforgettable for sure. We did an underwater photo shoot in their custom made costumes it was a lot of fun. How much time you spend on Social

I used to spend more time on social media but over the year I just don’t have the time, I probably spend 10 minutes a day on SM, 5 in the morning and 5 at the end of the night. I try to post one image a day depending on my schedule. Where do we find you on Social Media?

What’s the most important thing you want potential clients to know about you?

I am known for thinking differently, and being a visionary in creativity and art, for creating different works of art through photography than they have ever seen. Where do you see photography technology heading in the next ten years?

In the next ten years I see photography technology getting even more artistic, as photographers need to separate them-selves from anyone with a digital camera. If you want to be a professional photographer and make a great living at it, you can. You will have to provide something no one else can, and that can only come from your artistic vision. It does not matter what everyone else is doing, what they are doing will not set you apart. Creative software for photographers will continue to advance and with that so will what once was the standard and now archaic film cameras and processes. Do you mentor or offer classes to aspire beginners?

I teach at photography conventions through PPA Professional Photographers of America and I also offer one on one mentorship workshops at my studio or via Skype. You have won numerous international awards, are you looking to add more to your collections in 2017?

I am a very competitive person by nature, I find entering Professional Photographers of America and WPPI Wedding and Portrait Photographers International annual competitions very valuable to pushing me personally in my craft and it’s great for client promotion when you win. Where do you hope to go from here?

I am looking forward to going back to doing more editorial work. I have always wanted to create high end 74

coffee table books of my art and now have (PAC) Pacific Artist Collection as my fine art print and book rep. I am really looking forward to creating large intricate photography sets and artwork both above and underwater.

Rachelle Dalton is a

Northern California native who started at a young age in the family business. The 25 year business of beauty and spa treatments was the perfect fit for her. Yet with the special challenges after 911, she decided to close her spa and go to work for Sephora. She worked with the beauty product company

full time as their Head Makeup Artist and Color Manager. She had received five years of training with top national artists and has knowledge of 75 lines of products and can provide skincare advice with over 200 products. She developed a talent in makeup, hair and wardrobe styling, and has been her career for 25 years. These years of experience qualified her to 82 ||

work for Fashion TV in 2008. Her training also gave her the experience to do underwater fashion makeup, films and fashion shows/ shoots. Ms. Dalton has been able to work with celebrities and top designers, including Vietnamese super model Bebe Pham. She has always been passionate for fashion and has an innate understanding of clothes, hair and makeup which let her into the fashion industry as a career. Ms. Dalton has worked with the best photographers and models. She loves doing portfolio development, film work and editorial print work. She moved in 2009 not only for a change of pace, but to be closer to New York City, the fashion capital. “I really enjoy fashion and styling with my couture gowns and seeing the editorial images of her pay off.”

Jen Seidel is a Body

Painter, a Make-Up Artist, a Portrait Painter and an aspiring Fashion Designer, based outside of Baltimore, Maryland. Her career as an artist has grown to include Body Painting for not only fine art but also advertising, corporate events, countless charities and to promote scientific advancement. It all began with one magical idea, one evening to paint herself for a costume contest. This particular event caused the spark that lit the career of one of today’s most controversial artists. Since the beginning of her artistry, Jen Seidel has fought the battle of bringing the art form that is Body Painting out of the dark and into the light of the mainstream. With her elegant and unique approach to her craft, Jen Seidel is dedicated to painting her talents on the human body to raise awareness for Art, and for Life. Profits from her work are dedicated to charities and organizations of her choosing. In this way she “Paints it Forward”.
