LETTER FROM ASSOCIATE PUBLISHER AND MANAGER EDITOR
Readers,
I hope you are all reveling in the excitement of the holiday season. We proudly finish out 2015 with another great issue. I interviewed Paul Gilmartin this month. Paul is a slight oxymoron. He is a professional comedian and tv host, a great and funny entertainer. While at the same time, Paul has a very serious side as a podcaster. He founded and hosts the successful podcast, Mental Illness Happy Hour. He provides a safe environment for people to share their struggles and is very honest about his own. We focus on eliminating the stigma of mental illness and what each of us can do to fight that battle. We also looked mental wellness and fighting stigmas when we talked with Justin Kruger, founder of Project Helping. Their work is based on how “volunteering creates purpose, purpose creates joy, and joy improves mental wellness.” I am inspired by the work they do. I hope you are able to take some time to read about their work; being a part of your community for the good of those you help and yourself. You will find more beauty in the dynamic women we are proud to feature this month. Torrey DeVitto dons our cover; the dark-haired beauty from,
Chicago Med, Pretty Little Liars, Army Wives, Vampire Diaries and numerous other tv shows and movies. This mulit-faceted actress is a staunch vegan, an international model, a talented violinist who places high importance on animal and human life, giving of her time and care to PETA, The Humane Society of the United States and to care organizations as a Hospice Ambassador. Acting talent abounds with Shanola Hampton of Showtime’s, Shameless. Its new season starts in January 2016. Personally, I cannot wait. Ms. Hampton was so much fun to interview, she was open and funny, with great self deprecating humor. Her personality is as big as her star. From Starz’s, Ash vs Evil Dead, we feature Jill Marie Jones. This series, based on a cult classic of the same name,

is a unique mix of horror and slapstick comedy. Ms. Jones also starred for years on the popular show, Girlfriends. She and cast mates created characters that many women see themselves in, a show clearly relatable to its fan base. Lisa Vidal, from Being Mary Jane, with a role in feature film, Dark Mirror, shared with us the history of her acting career and even provided a few fashion tips. Alina Aliluykina, another actress that we are excited to introduce. With a rich history coming to America from USSR, Alina talks about her struggles, her mindset and her variety of talents. Another feature film, Concussion , to be released this month by SONY, features Sara Lindsay. Ms. Lindsay told her story of growing up and growing into acting. Read her interview to get some inside information on what it was like for Sara working with Will Smith. Lifetime will be showing The Spirit of Christmas this holiday season, starring Jen Lilley. Ms. Lilley was such fun to talk with. She shared her experiences in her various acting jobs, from landing her role in the Academy Award winning movie, The Artist, to the unique work on a soap opera set. Her passion for helping others is wonderful, an inspiring story that we are proud to share. We want to thank everyone that has been featured this year in MOST, worked on MOST, and those who sat down and enjoyed it. We wish you all a holiday season filled with special memories and look forward to bringing a magazine that inspires. Sincerely,

hamelessly witty Shanola Hampton is that girlfriend you haven’t spoken to in years and somehow manage pick up right where you left off. For a girl raised in the South, where the tea is sweet and the charm is decidedly southern, she has made herself at home on the gritty streets of South Boston on Showtime’s critically acclaimed phenomenon, Shameless. Now entering its sixth season, Shanola plays feisty Veronica Fisher. The mother of twins, she is married to our favorite barkeep Kevin Bell, portrayed by Steve Howey. MOST spoke with the fine arts major about growing up in the South and all things shameless, ya’ll.

hanola started acting at a very young age. We asked the actress what made her stick with it after such an early start and she replies with exquisite comedic timing, “The attention, once I
heard that applause, I was like yep, this is what I want to do.” Excuse us a moment
while we crack up at her extremely candid answer. As the animated middle child, she looked for a place to fit in, “I just get
a natural high from being on stage; it was my thing, something that I was good at.”
Having grown up in the church, she truly believes, “I’m doing what I was put here to do.” And she is doing it well. Her father, a minister, who watches the show, taught Shanola and her three sisters that education was paramount. Her father always said, “No matter what you want to do, you have to educate yourself. “

“WE ALWAYS SAID HELLO TO PEOPLE WHEN WALKING By. WE NEVER REALIZED IT WAS WEIRD.“
With that advice, Shanola earned a degree in Theater with an emphasis in Performance from Winthrop University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Illinois. Then while attending graduate school, she taught and mentored younger freshman and gained a considerable appreciation for teaching. She hopes to one day open a Performing Arts School. While in school she met a fellow theater major in her Introduction to Theater class. Daren Dukes, a seasoned senior, intrigued by Shanola’s fresh brand of charm, passed her a note in class. Rather than agreeing to check the box for “yes or no”, to join him for dinner, the actress plays coy and returns the note with a cheeky reply, “maybe.” She remembers their date with wonder, “I’m eighteen years
old, he made reservations, and I had never been to a restaurant with a boy, who made reservations.” Not just any restaurant readers, one of those Japanese restaurants where they cook the food in front of you. “When you
look at the menu and the meals are $14.95, you realize, he must really like me,” she recalls
fondly. The thespians were married in 2001.
After making her way to Los Angeles to pursue acting, the actress quickly recognizes that living in California would represent a whole new way of life. “We always said hello to people when walking by. We never realized that was weird.” She recalls a trip to the grocery store where she came across a package of tofu in which she lovingly refers to as too foo, “What in the world is too foo, we grew up on meat and potatoes.” Adjusting to local fare would prove educational indeed.
Settling in she would make several guest appearances on a host of hit shows, such as Scrubs, Criminal Minds, and Reba. She would also go on to star in her first feature film, You Again, staring Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver and Kristin Bell, before landing the plum role of Veronica Fisher. www. er first encounter with her co-star Steve Howey, would be on the set of Reba, where he was a principal character and she had a guest starring role. That early introduction would lead to their undeniable chemistry on and off-screen. “We are very close and talk
to each other like an old married couple. He’s my work husband and he takes care of me.” No more clear than when her character Veronica
was pregnant with twins. Shanola herself was pregnant with her first child, Cai MyAnna. Life imitating art, if you will, as Steve and his wife, Sarah Shani, were also pregnant—and expecting twins— ironically.
We discussed the friendship between Veronica and Fiona, portrayed by Emmy Rossum, and why their relationship resonates with fans. “It’s one of those friendships that is the healthiest
kind because they are honest, brutally so, but never in a vindictive or jealous way.” She goes on to say, “Often times you have friendships where one is the taker and one is the giver, but you’re able to see this relationship where they are both there for each other no matter the situation.”
With a show called, Shameless, we asked the actress if she’s ever shocked by the nonsensical situations that the characters find themselves in from week to week and she is quick to agree. “There is a story line in each episode that affects
you, that makes you ask yourself, what are we doing and are we going to get away with this and the answer is always of course we are, this is Shameless.” At this point nothing surprises her,. “The thing about acting, the thing you learn is you can’t judge their choices, you have to figure out why they make them, when the situation is dire and your options are limited.” Finding a perfect balance this talented ensemble is able to find the truth and the funny in it.
Speaking of cast mates, Shanola has a great relationship with them on and off set. Whether it’s dinner or barbecues they enjoy spending time together. As a rule, they all try to book work during the off season which is difficult. “When
you are on such a great show, that is well written, well produced, with juicy characters you want to choose roles that bring that same caliber of what you are already doing.” As a result much to their

n her free time, the mother of one enjoys spending time with her family, doing Pilates, or binge watching television shows but most of all she loves to travel. Shanola and her husband are currently planning a trip to Australia. Last year they were able to travel to Japan and experience the unique culture, exotic food and some of the “nicest people.” Rather than ask Shanola about what makes her marriage work, we simply asked what it is about Daren that makes him special. She pauses a moment and beautifully articulates the following. “He’s just one of those people who is set in his truth. He knows
who he is and he’s comfortable with that without judgement; and we have a relationship that just works for us.” She goes on to say, “He’s smart but you know what I liked most about him, he’s that guy who is an artist. We can go to the museum. He loves theater (both theater majors). He loves acting. He gets the business.” He also shares her love of football, “So he’s real manly. He’s the perfect balance of family man, artist and culture, which I love.” An incredible partner to have,
they plan to have another child, hoping this time for a boy. No matter what the good lord blesses them with, she’s firm, “I’m a two and through”.
As if on cue, we hear Cai’s lovely little voice say “Hi!”, clear as a bell. Now that our time with this vibrant talent has come to an end, one thing is clear; Mrs. Hampton has a true and genuine sense of self. As a matter of fact, Shanola just announced that she is having her second child, a baby boy, in May, 2016! With a zeal for life, we look forward to watching this charmer shine. You can catch an all new season of Showtime’s Shameless on January 10, 2016. How much more shameless can things get? We will have to wait and see, feeling more than secure in the southern comfort that is, Shanola Hampton.

We need to increase awareness, equity and knowledge and decrease stigma, shame, the uneven recognition of it as a real medical condition.
M
ental Illness Happy Hour is a five star rated podcast on iTunes, and comes up first with a search for “mental health” on iTunes. It is not the popularity or
rating of the podcast that is most important, rather the forum being offered and the discussion. People find a safe, nonjudgmental place to talk about their experiences: abuse, addiction, fears, weaknesses, etc. The podcast is a safe zone that allows for discussion and admissions. The honesty on the show is incredible. The draw of the podcast hinges on its mantra, “You’re not alone.” These words give normalcy to what people have experienced, that they are not unusual, that there is hope, there is help, and that people want to help. Paul Gilmartin did not start the show to be altruistic, but there is no doubt that it benefits so many, including Paul. Paul often has a veil lifted on his struggles during a guest interview, and often he asks just the right question to lift the veil for someone else.
Mental health/illness is vast, dangerous, expensive, inundating, crippling, etc. “We need to increase awareness,
equity of care and knowledge and decrease stigma, shame, the uneven recognition of it as a real medical condition.” The historical stigma attached to mental illness likely began because of its complexity and subjectivity of diagnosis. It can difficult to diagnosis. It does not show up on an x-ray or in a blood test. Inferences have to be made.
Often it is difficult to fathom the reality of a person sick with a mental illness, and the changes in their thought processes or moods. Some of these things can be changed by talking about mental health honestly and often. The more we talk about it, the more we learn and the less strange and scary it will seem. Mental illness is something people have, not who they are. For example, “I have this disease but it is not who I am.” It is important to get away from “I am bipolar, I am depressed,” and move to “I have depression” or “I have bipolar disorder.” People that experience these issues are just people with an illness, with an unfair hit in trying just to live their lives.

Paul Gilmartin MENTAL ILLNESS HAPPY HOUR
G
ilmartin talks about growing up, his father who was emotionally absent, and how his mother was inappropriate with her physical behavior toward him. He says, “I had to be funny to fight my fear of being insignificant as a kid.” His home was a house of tension and rage. His past is not atypical. Histories with dysfunction lead to possibly unhealthy behaviors; behaviors that compound mental illness and make people’s battles all the more difficult. We have to talk about our lives and our experiences as Paul does. We need to know what is not normal, and what it leads to in our lives. We need parents and families that model and educate their children in healthy mental living. Again, we need to be able to talk about these issues. When we talked about specifically how to stop the cycle of dysfunction and how do we educate about ramifications from an unhealthy life, Paul’s thoughts were, “A lot of people’s trauma is in a
gray area. Half of the population would say it is in that gray area and the other half would gasp, ‘That is horrible, where is the truth?’ What matters is how you feel about it, the importance of giving weight to what has happened to you is that you can process the feelings.”
Often people do not know that what they are feeling or how they are acting could actually be symptoms of an illness. But we do not know what we do not know. Paul says he did not know he was experiencing depression until he felt vitality. When he experienced the opposite, he then knew what he felt before was depression. When he felt this vitality and excitement to get out of bed he thought to himself, “This
is what normal people feel, the ability to laugh easily, feel motivation to do things, passion for hobbies, all things when my depression is bad go away. I endure life rather than embrace it.”

aul still has depressive symptoms, but before he started treatment, the symptoms were ten times worse. They were compounded because he had not treated his alcoholism or his childhood trauma. As he continues his treatment with medicine, support groups, and doctors he still struggles with his depression weighing him down. He says, “Sometimes I am so tired
of it I do not feel like it will pass and so much is involved in maintaining a base line of a decent mood that I just accept flatness and do not see my psychiatrist.” He does not go to his
I also talked with Justin Kruger from Project Helping about how, as a society, we can deal with the stigma and shame of mental illness. He addressed it from the perspective that many people self-stigmatize. Even people with the illness do not understand it; they are not comfortable with the fact that it is an illness and not a choice. Hopefully more talking can decrease the amount of stigma that is self-imposed and open the possibility of treatment and better mental health.
doctor in these situations because the medication adjustments do not work for him, sometimes making things worse, and is often expensive. These are things most people discover as they work on their medical recovery. All of these things he shares with his listeners. The feedback he receives says that he is supported and that many people fight the same battles. His honesty and openness are helping fight the stigma against these issues and increasing awareness. In the beginning he hid his illnesses, but once he started treating his symptoms, he was telling everyone. It was a huge revelation to him that he could experience 24 hours without dread.

continues to have a positive impact on so many. During each episode, Paul reads letters and surveys from listeners and many tell him how they have been helped. One thing he wants to bring awareness to with his podcast is that women can be predators, not to blame or shame, just that in can be abuse even if it is by a woman; it is valid. He receives a lot of surveys discounting abuse from a woman as not legitimately abuse. Overall he says the podcast is in a good place, just the number of emails he receives keeps him busy and there are so many surveys from listeners he cannot keep up. People need help and will talk in a place they feel safe and listened to. Paul offers this. He knows that the podcast can often be dark, but that is reality for so many.
...His honesty and openness are helping fight the stigma against these issues and increasing awareness.
Gilmartin says we need to talk about mental illness, lots of conversations every day. “I think it is just a long
battle with tiny little baby steps along the way; we are not going to see the change we want in our lifetimes, but hopefully we will leave a legacy of progress.

hen people tell me that my clothes are very unique and they haven’t seen designs like that before, I take it as one of the best compliments I can get. In my opinion, part of that uniqueness comes from the lack of formal training. I can explain why. When I talk to other designers about how their ideas come to life, I realize that many of them have a plan they follow. For example, first they think of a color mood board that sets the tone for the new collection. Then they draw a design. Next they look for fabric that would work with that design, make a pattern, and so on. And it’s the same steps with each look.

or me there is no plan ever. Sometimes, I just see a fabric and I know immediately what it will be. Occasionally, I start designing a jacket and it somehow turns into a dress or vice versa. Other times, I just want to try a new technique or a new stitch. For example, beginning without any idea of what it wants to become and two hours later, a long skirt emerges. I get asked all the time about my creative process and how dresses come to life. I really don’t know how to answer that. It’s always different. My personal rule is that I won’t let the dress out of my sewing studio until I can say to myself that I, too, would want to wear it; and also that it doesn’t look like something that can be bought in the store today.

NBC’s DAYS OF OUR LIVES, SOAP OPERA
ARTICLE AUSTIN THOMSON
cting requires constant motivation, massive preparation, and the unique factors that set them apart from a crowd. Jen Lilley goes above and beyond these requirements, adding a passion for music and humanitarian work to her repertoire. Many of you may recognize Lilley from her roles on the popular soap operas, General Hospital and Days of Our Lives. What most may not know about Lilley is her generosity when it comes to the causes that are closest to her. She works with a variety of organizations that raise awareness over issues ranging from the international clean water crisis to human trafficking. Jen was kind enough to chat with us about MOST how she got started in acting, her humanitarian work, and what she expects for the future.

illey began her acting career while in college, staring in the indie film, The Loss of Life. Surprisingly enough, Jen had massive stage fright when she originally began, something she says she still occasionally struggle with today. However, once she got on the set for The Loss of Life, she felt right at home. After graduating from the University of Virginia and managing two jobs, Lilley decided to make the move out to Los Angeles in order to be right in the middle of the action. Lilley eventually went on the land a role in the 5 Academy Award winning silent film, The Artist. Jen said her love of the 1920’s period is what set her apart and helped her land the role after doing background work in a variety of films. She was able to get the role of Maxie Jones on General Hospital as a replacement for Kirsten Storms as she was overcoming an illness. After getting into the world of soap operas, Lilley was cast in Days of Our Lives as Theresa Donovan. Jen says that the world of soap operas marks a huge different than other types of acting. She loves the fast pace and constant changes that are thrown into soap operas. As far as dream roles go, Jen would love to play the lead in a biopic.

To counter her dramatic roles, Lilley has even had a comedic role on the MTV show, Disaster Date. Jen says the experience for this audition was even harder than the soap opera ones. “I had to prepare nine different
characters with nine different personalities, it was crazy.” In fact,
she said that she was able to land the General Hospital role through her comedic skills by channeling her humor through her family, who she says, are “ten times quirkier than she is.” In addition to her acting, Jen Lilley considers her work in charitable endeavors to be immensely rewarding. When she first moved to Los Angeles, she was educated on the world water crisis. Lilley said she felt that after being involved with that cause, she felt—on a spiritual level— she could be doing something more. After doing more research, Lilley came across the Innocent Justice Foundation. It is a charity that focuses on putting a stop to the exploitation of children. An issue that can be difficult to even bring up; much less talk about solving. Jen says she only supports organizations that donate at least 89 cents of every dollar to the charitable cause. Through that organization, Lilley found out about Childhelp, and from there, everything snowballed to where she is now.

Lilley pushes to do things for both her local community as well as those who are struggling internationally. In addition to her acting and humanitarian efforts, Jen is also a talented singer. She sang in church and has always been a fan of music. After mentioning to a friend that she would like to record a Christmas album, she was put in touch with the right people and started recording the album, Tinsel Time; which was released in time for the holiday season, with rave reviews, and can be found on all digital retailers.

In the very little free time that Lilley has, she says she loves to do DIY house projects and hopes to one day “flip houses.”. She loves to bake as well, running a bakery out of her parent’s kitchen while she was in high school. She bakes a cake for every cast member’s birthday on the set of Days of Our Lives, another small thing that shows the kindness that flows through Jen. www. M O S T mag.com //

ed lipstick, a signature look for the incredibly poised Jill Marie Jones, seems like a great place to start our love fest for this talented actress. She plays no-nonsense Michigan State Trooper, Amanda Fisher, on Starz’s breakaway hit, Ash Vs. Evil Dead, a continuation of writer and director, Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic, Evil Dead. MOST spoke with this self–professed lover of “LOVE” about soup coolers, owning her womanhood, and living life on her own path.

he youngest of three, Jill was born and raised in the largest metropolitan area in the south, Dallas, Texas. With her two older brothers, who affectionately refer to those magnificent lips as soup coolers, she had a normal childhood. When we asked Jill about growing up in the Lone Star State, she lovingly suggests, “My mother might be better suited to answer this question.” A federal investigator recently retired after 40 years of service, her mother, “raised a women in the making.” She recalls a time around the age eight when there was a knock at the door. She distinctly remembers just cracking the door and asking the visitor what she wanted. Looking for a playmate, a neighborhood friend asked Jill if she might like to join her outside when she is quickly rebuffed, “I’m playing with my mom right now.” The future thespian would sit on the bed and watch her mother get ready for work. “Like a Barbie come to life she wore makeup and these great hats.” She affectionately shares, “My
mother is my best friend, and I have always been in awe of her.” Her father, who has since passed on, “Is in heaven eating lots of Mexican food with a lot of salt on it and he’s happy which makes us very happy.”
Jill spent a year at one of the nation’s largest schools primarily for women, Texas Women’s University (TWU). While there, she embraced her college experience learning new things and joining numerous clubs but her heart was never in it. Jill envisioned herself living out her dreams of being an actor in New York City dancing on Broadway. One morning while attending an 8:00 am Sociology class — always the eager beaver — she sat next to the window looking out and “I noticed how green the trees and the grass
were outside the window and the wind was blowing. Then I realized I wasn’t on my own path. I was on someone else’s path for me.” Compelled to take action, “Life felt like it was happening and I wasn’t a part of it and that’s where I wanted to be.”
That would be her last day at TWU.

Although she recognizes the importance of education, she is a longtime student of the University of Life. Jill Marie has always encouraged education no matter the method or however you find it. Additionally, she’s always considered herself extremely lucky and blessed to have parents that “Never
clipped my wings and I was always alloweud to fly.”
The actress can recall, “Once letting somebody tell me
that I was too old at eighteen to dance on Broadway and I listened.”
That would be the last time she ever listened to the naysayers. Although her decision to leave school was the right one, “I can only imagine as parents
you just want the best for your child. They wanted me to have all the tools in my tool box for life. In this business you need to have a thick skin and it’s a hard road. But for me, I feel like I’m in Disneyland every day and I get to live my art which has been a dream come true.”

ill would go on to cheer for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders as well as the Dallas Mavericks. While cheering for the five time Superbowl champs, she felt the Dallas Cowboys “carved
out the rough edges of that young woman in the making and made me a lady. As a part of the team, you are extremely disciplined and those are things that I still carry on in my life.”
Shortly after arriving in Los Angeles, Jill landed her first major role on UPN’s Girlfriends, starring Tracee Ellis Ross, Golden Brooks and Persia White. Girlfriends was a real life look at four professional friends as they combat life, love and loss. She remembers her time on the show fondly. “I feel like I gave birth to Toni Childs. Clearly I didn’t. That was all Mara Brock Akil,” the show’s skilled creator. Girlfriends was a place where you could see four strong and intelligent women whose relationships are innately relatable.
MOST readers, you might be surprised to know
that to become a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, you have to be one of three things; one must have a full time job, be a full time student, or be a mother (which is a full time job). There is this misconception that there are young girls sitting on their couch all day eating bon bons and cheering. That is simply not the case. These are accomplished women who work hard at bringing a level of professionalism and good stewardship; while representing the nation’s most recognizable cheerleading squad. Jones is honored to count herself among them. Cheering for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders is the gift that keeps on giving. The actress has nothing but beautiful words to say about the Cowboys organization. At the time, Jill was introduced to the United Services Organization, or more commonly known as the USO and Department of Defense, which she still plays an active role with today. The USO helps to support military service men and women and their families stay connected wherever and whenever they go; traveling the world, raising morale, and supporting the troops in far off locales such as South Korea, Japan, Egypt, Israel, Tel Aviv and Alaska. She was fortunate enough to travel to Bethlehem, where she was able to pray at the Wailing Wall. Visiting this extremely ancient and spiritual place of worship meant a great deal to the actor.
Often times people will approach the actress and say, “Oh, I’m a Toni or I’m a Joan.” Looking back on her career, Jill Marie’s exit from the show at the end of her six-year contract would be the only decision she would do differently. In the actress’s mind, people change jobs all the time. “My contract was up. You have to look at where you’re going in your career.” Would she sign on for another series of years or go in a new and different direction? “Girlfriends
was my third audition in town. The first one I booked, the second I didn’t, and the third was Girlfriends.” she states. A relative newcomer to Hollywood, Jill would learn a great deal from her time on the show and continue her studies in the University of Life.

The actress feels blessed to be a part of this extraordinary franchise. Working alongside the incomparable Sam Raimi has been “a gift. He is
n addition to Girlfriends, Jill has been involved in any number of movie and television projects. She starred in feature films such as Drool, The Perfect Holiday, and The Longshots. She has also had notable performances in Fox’s Sleepy Hollow as well as, FX’s award winning show, American Horror Story, one of her favorite sets to work on. There is so much love amongst the cast and crew and she attributes this to their fearless leader, the hugely talented, Mr. Ryan Murphy. She would be remiss if she didn’t mention her co-star, Mr. Dylan McDermott who is, “A master class, such a kind beautiful soul and he’s not too hard to look at.” This extensive body of work would eventually lead Jill to an unkempt trailer in the woods, where the fan base number in cult-like proportions. Sam Raimi’s 1981 film, Evil Dead, is a classic horror film with a very distinct and passionate fan base, “It has legs.” the actress so aptly states. With clear elements of the Evil Dead franchise, Ash vs. Evil Dead has received its stamp of approval from the fans who have loved this horror fest and its matriarch since its inception. With Mr. Bruce Campbell as their leader, they have been able to appeal to the original fan base as well as creating a new crop of Deadites. Jill skillfully portrays state trooper, Amanda Fisher. “She knows her way around a
gun, doesn’t like the word ‘no’, and is unapologetic about going after what she wants.” Using her powers to fight for good with the best of intentions, “I love how smart and strong she is.”
To round out the cast, the show enlists Lucy Lawless, Ray Santiago, and Dana DeLorenzo. Like a family, they spend time together on and off the elaborate set, which is located in picturesque New Zealand. From rolling down hills or just having dinner together, the chemistry between this close knit cast is evident, despite all that blood. It took four months to complete all ten episodes of the first season. If you are patiently waiting for a spoiler alert, sadly, there isn’t going to be any.

such a genius and has this beautiful touch in terms of directing; so respectful of the actors and the crew.” She goes on to say, “He makes you feel like you are part of the process, and I really do believe that we are.” After many years in this business, having that type of connection with your director is rare, “It’s just lovely to learn from him. He is our teacher and we are his willing students.”
Now a seasoned actress on a brand new hit show, we asked Jill what she might do differently given the opportunity and she’s quick to reply, “Honestly, I
would do it all the same. I’ve held on to my integrity the entire journey.” Saying no to projects that didn’t feel right and “I knew exactly what I wanted to do before I got here.” There are so many avenues
and roads you can take once you get to Hollywood and “I’ve stayed straight on the ones that fit for me and I would do it the same.” A class act, this talented actress is more than happy playing inside her fandom, which we must admit is pretty cool. When she’s not filming or working, Jill loves to travel trying to get away at least twice a year. She’s a huge Dallas Cowboys fan(why wouldn’t she be), enjoys watching the game with great food, good friends, and an adult beverage. Jill also writes poetry and is currently shopping around and writing screen plays. As we think back to that crisp early morning in Sociology class and imagine what Jill saw outside that window, we find ourselves contemplating our own paths. If Jill’s accomplishments are any proof of the stellar education that the University of Life offers, where can we sign up? You can catch Jill and all her badassery on Saturday nights on Starz. Until then, we’ll leave you with a simple kiss. Don’t mind the lipstick.

At the young age of three, Alina realized her first love was in the arts. She chuckled as she told us about a video tape of her standing on a chair wearing a boyish outfit and singing a song about being eighteen years old and kissing a guy. At three years old, how could her guests not think she was adorable? Her love only escalated from there as she entered a music school to study classical piano and vocal at the age of six. She has been performing ever since, and tells us that music was her first big passion and introduction to this exciting world of art.

However, things were not always as easy as it seemed to be. Growing up in Russia, Alina never planned on coming to America. “A beautiful country full of mystery, “ as she stated, has made her who she is today and she would not change it. When she came to America for vacation in Miami with only one suitcase full of bikinis, she supposes it was destined for her to follow her dreams. With help from her curious and adventurous nature, that really made her stay, Alina tells MOST it took a lot of courage to make such an extreme change when she decided to make the trek over here. With unsupportive family and friends, she was determined to not back down.

had poor English... bewildered, and very mad at my parents and friends who thought I went crazy. But at the same time, I had an incredible desire to understand who I was and what I was doing in this world.” Believing that America is “
the perfect place and an ally to find answers about herself, she began to put her dreams to the test; imagining bigger than ever before and starting to realize that her dreams were real and they could come to life.
It was always a struggle to follow her dreams, but Alina has always wanted to pursue what she is doing now. She tells us that it wasn’t very easy to go on with the mentality that she could fight against her family in realization that she could actually do it and push her dreams to become a reality. Growing up on a different continent and constantly hearing phrases such as “stop dreaming
and get back down to Earth to live a normal life like everyone around you” along with, “you are nothing without a man, so you should marry a wealthy guy because it is the only way you can succeed in life and be happy” was overtly drowning. Despite the constriction she grew up on, Alina feels very lucky that she found that niche in life where she finally feels like she belongs, and therefore, truly enjoys her work as a multifaceted artist.
When we asked what has been the most challenging thing about choosing a career in the arts, Alina honestly replied, “I do not know. Challenges are
interesting (and exciting), but the most important thing is to stay a good person. Never forget what your mission is on this planet. And if you choose to be an artist, do not forget why. Acknowledge your incredible power of having a voice and influence on people and how many beautiful benefits you can do with that for the world.”

Clearly staying true to her happiness, this lady has come a long way to really find herself and her purpose for what she does. The message Alina wants to pass along with her work is to spread knowledge, inspire people, tell a life-changing story, remind how important simple things are, how important human beings are, how important it is to dream, and far more than we can list. She definitely has a long list of uplifting goals and art is a very powerful place to be able to implement all those. Regardless of the concerning feedback her family once gave her, Alina pushes herself to grind harder than ever to prove that a career in the arts and entertainment industry is not as far fetched as most make it seem. But, most importantly, to prove that her happiness can be obtained in her career. Currently still in works, Alina is planning on releasing an album soon – December 2016 to be exact! Calling herself a real melomane (French for music lover), she listens and finds inspiration from a variety of artists and doesn’t stick to one genre. In this album, it is sounding very “vibe-y” as she states. The well-known DJ QBert scratched on a few of her tracks, so it is sounding similar to Portishead – an English trip-hop band. Accompanied by that, she has some beats on her album inspired by the legendary Dr. Dre alongside vocals similar to the R&B group sensation, TLC. Believing in her own work, Alina has written her own music with help from her boyfriend, Justin Smith. If you are curious if she will be shooting music videos as well, she is currently collecting ideas and in the process of talking to directors, hopefully with idols such as Luc Besson and David Lynch in the future.

eing a major collaborator in her field, Alina is featured in various music videos, shoots, short films, and more. She believes that collaboration is crucial when it comes to finding yourself and who “your people” are – who you click with and want to do business with or not. However, she says, “Saying no is an easy thing for me as life is too short to do things you do not love, do not agree with or do not find inspiring/interesting.” We’re glad to hear she
sticks true to her self-worth and work! Yet, there is a tricky part about saying no. Alina tells us that sometimes small parts can lead to bigger opportunities, so she makes sure she does not miss out on the potential when considering working on a project and collaborating with certain people. Though nothing comes right away, it is a process and she is still learning along the way. Appreciating all aspects of life, Alina continues to foster her growth with those she collaborates with. In the words of Alina Aliluykina herself, she reminds everyone that tough times do not last for long, as long as you are honest with yourself. “The industry is very competitive,
so trying to get rid of the judgment and trying to not compare myself to others and so forth, was a great tool I discovered – which serves me everyday in set life as well as outside of casting. We are all unique; we should embrace and celebrate it.” Catch more of Alina Aliluykina in upcoming projects such as: The Bad Batch, Adi Shankar’s TV Show: Gods and Secrets, and of
course, her new album, released in December. Surely, this will not be the last you see of her!

CONCUSSION and BLUE JAY,
FILMS
ACTRESS/WRITER
PHOTOGRAPHER MARY COSTA PHOTOGRAPHY or all of you football admirers, prepare to turn your attention to SONY’s highly anticipated true-story feature about neuropatholigist, Dr. Bennet Omalu, played by Will Smith, in the film, Concussion, which tells of the research on brain trauma to football players and the discovery of “CTE.” Sara Lindsey’s role as Dr. Omalu’s assistant, Gracie, shares in the research efforts. Opening Christmas Day. In the new year, 2016 will bring Lindsey’s co-written thriller, Blue Jay. Washington D.C. born, and raised in Maryland, Sara was born as the youngest and only daughter of two physicians. From her earliest interest in acting in Shel Sinverstein’s adaptation play, A Light in the Attic, she continued performing through her school years in professional theaters. Music also played a major part of her expression as a singer and oboe player. This passion led to All State Choir, principal oboist at the Peabody Preparatory Sinfonietta. Sara graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a BFA in Acting. While yet completing college, Lindsey was offered a role in JJ Abram’s and Steven Speilberg’s memorable thriller, Super 8. Upon graduation, Sara made the move to Los Angeles to pursue building her resume and added roles from Fun Size, Jack Reacher, Won’t Back Down, and most recently for, Promise Land, with legend, Frances McDormand and director, Gus Van Sant.

There is a lot of buzz around your next project, Concussion. Can you tell us what the film is about and what your role is in the story?
SARA //
Concussion is about
Dr. Bennet Omalu who discovered CTE in football players, and his attempts to bring his discoveries to the NFL. I play Dr. Omalu’s partner in the forensics lab, Gracie, who is based on Bennett’s real assistant from when he was working in Pittsburgh, Rena Altman. Will and I worked closely with Bennet and Rena in rehearsals so we could make their world as accurate as possible, which was awesome.

Will Smith is one of a handful of actors that is equally adept at both comedy and drama. Did you learn anything from working with him? Do you have any aspirations to work in comedy?
SARA //
I loved working with Will and learned so much on the movie. Will has an awesome balance of professionalism and silliness that makes working with him so fun. The biggest thing I took away though was his ability to be completely open and spontaneous take after take after take. Will begins each scene truly for the first time every time, and observing that consistent level of discovery was a huge learning experience. But his silliness is always there, too, and I think that’s why he’s so good at comedy. I love doing comedy and am actually working on a series right now called, My Life Worked Out, that’s in the vein of Amy Schumer and Broad City.

When money is no object, I love Oscar de la Renta, Giorgio Armani. My favorite designers right now though are Bec Cooper and Bridget Yorston who design the Australian brand Bec & Bridge. Who has had the strongest influence on your careeer thus far?
TORREY //
NBC’s new drama, Chicago Med, is the latest spin-off from the creators of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD that focuses on the day-to-day
choas of the team of doctors running the ER. The crossover series involves all three shows and follows the hopsital staff at Chicago Med as they face medical cases and ethical delimmas, some ripped from the headlines.
In order for Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead
to create a drama set apart from the others, medical advisors are kept on set to train the
cast in proper terminology and possible hospital scenarios., shadowing doctors in witnessed surgeries.
Watch for Torrey as
It is split between everyone I love. I have been so fortunate to have people in my life who have completely supported me and provided strength when I needed it the most. I have also been very lucky to have worked with some amazing actors and human beings who have provided such incredible advice and wisdom. I think career wise when I have looked at someone I wanted to emulate at young age, it is a toss up between Audrey Hepburn and Monica Bellucci. I always admired and loved the grace and class Audrey Hepburn embodied, and always was in awe with Monica Bellucci’s talents and role choices and the strong, Goddess sexiness that she exudes.
she plays periatrician, Lily Manning, in this riveting new series on NBC .

MOST //
Which role have you learned the most from?
TORREY //
I LEARN SO MUCH FROM EVERY PROJECT. IT IS HARD TO SAY WHICH ONE I HAVE LEARNED THE MOST FROM SINCE EACH EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE LAST. PLAYING DR. MANNING HAS ALREADY BEEN SO EYE-OPENING FOR ME AND HAS STRENGTHENED ME SO MUCH. I AM GRATEFUL TO BE PLAYING A CHARACTER I CAN LEARN SO MUCH FROM.
MOST //
Do you have any secret talents? We noticed that you have some not-so-secret hula hoop skills and play the violin.
TORREY // Yes, I love hula hoop dancing. It is one of my favorite things to do when I have some spare time. It is such an art, truly. I have been playing violin since I was SIX YEARS OLD. I have been waiting to marry my two worlds for awhile now and finally got to do it by playing violin in episode three for Chicago Med. It could not have made me happier to debut it on a show that I love and care about so much.
MOST //
What type of roles are you most attracted to when reading scripts?
TORREY //
IT ALL DEPENDS AND VARIES. I NORMALLY GRAVITATE TOWARDS SCRIPTS WHERE I FEEL LIKE I CAN EITHER LEARN SOMETHING OR TAKE SOMETHING AWAY FROM THE CHARACTER I WILL BE PLAYING. IF IT SCARES ME THEN THAT USUALLY MEANS I HAVE MADE THE RIGHT DECISION.

MOST // You often play the character with
something to hide, or the evil character. Do you encounter fans that are angry about something you have done on screen?
TORREY //
Yes ! Especially when I was on One Tree Hill. There was (and still is) a lot of people upset with me for all of Nanny Carrie’s wrong doings!
MOST //
What elements of Pretty Little Liars’ Melissa and her personality do you find in yourself ?
TORREY // I would say, more than not all of Melissa I had to come up with and create. That was one of my favorite things about playing her, nothing about her was me at all. She could not be more different than I am. It was fun to build her personality and mannerisms.
MOST // You mentioned in a recent interview for
Chicago Med that your character has many layers and
comes in already with a complex history. How did your preparation for this role compare to that for previous roles?
TORREY // The preparation for this role was different because Natalie is a character who resides in reality, unlike a lot of my other characters who were a little more based inside a fantastical world. She also is more like me and I allowed more of me to come through her than any other character I have done. The preparation really had a lot to do with learning technically what it is like to be a Doctor working in an ER in Chicago. Really understanding what it was like to live that life day in and day out. Understanding their mannerisms and mentality, it is so different than I would have ever thought had I not been able to shadow in actual hospitals and go through real medical training.
MOST // MOST //
What is the most interestig medical fact that you have learned since coming on set?
Why did you choose acting as a career path?
TORREY //
I have always loved acting. When I was about six years old I saw the play, Les Miserable, for the first time and fell in love with the Eponine character. I used to put performances on and have my dad play the part of Marius. I loved entertaining and performing since I can remember.
TORREY //
Not so much facts as me really believing I would be able to do a pretty great IV in someone’s arm! Or more so just learning the medical terminology we get to speak, all those words and meanings have been very interesting!
MOST // MOST //
Tell us about your character on Chicago Med?
TORREY //
Natalie is a strong, compassionate character. She is dealing with the long hours and stresses of being a doctor and also a soon to be single mother who is dealing with the grief of losing her husband.
How do you hope to see your role develop over this and the next season?
TORREY //
I hope that people learn something from Natalie or can find a way to relate to her. I hope if there are single moms out there, who are working hard watching this, I hope Natalie continues to develop as a character who represents that part of the population well! Does them justice.

You have often posted about animal rights on social media platforms and have recently become the face of the anti-dissection campaign with PETA. What about this issue draws you in the most? What are you most concerned about in relation to animal rights? Where do you hope to see animal rights in the next ten years?
TORREY //
I can always remember being completely repulsed by the use of fur for vanity, for fashion, rugs, throws or key chains. At a young age, before I understood why, I can remember the feeling of knowing it was wrong and vile. I became vegetarian almost 8 years ago and really started to do my research on the meat and dairy industry, and environmentally, what eating the way we eat as a whole is affecting our environment. It just did not make sense to me anymore and I wanted nothing to do with it. Joining with PETA and HSUS was an no-brainer for me. I wanted to use my voice in any way I could to make people aware of what they were eating and where their food and fashion is coming from. Ignorance is not bliss, knowledge is power. I have since become vegan and vowed to never buy leather ever again either.
MOST //
What is your guilty pleasure television show? Guilty pleasure snack?
TORREY //
My boyfriend and I love Shark Tank and when we watch it we love to snack on vegan thai orange chicken!
MOST //
You and Rick seem to take a lot of vacations, what has been your favorite?
TORREY //
Going to his childhood home in Cleveland has been my favorite so far. I could go anywhere with him and have the best time.
MOST //
What does a lazy Sunday look like for you?
TORREY //
Sleeping in, walking to get coffee with Rick and our pups, then lounging around, watching movies, or reading a book and eating take-out all day.
MOST //
What songs can you not resist singing along to when they come on the radio?
TORREY //
My sister makes SO much fun of me, but every time I hear Pitbull ’s ‘Feel This Moment’ featuring Christina Aguilera , I cannnot help but sing and dance! I also cannot resist singing to any Fiona Apple or Boyz II Men song that may come on the radio.

for “Kara”, the audience will get to know Kara on a deeper level and what makes her tick. Kara is a complicated, layered character and we will be digging deeper to get to know her. On the new FOX show, Rosewood, I play “Daisy Villa”, the mother of “Detective Villa”. Daisy is a fun character to play, she is a spitfire who is bitter about her past, and wants to relive her youth, outspoken, over the top and inappropriate. You never know what’s going to come out of her mouth!

he basic belief of Project Helping (PH) is the “Joy of Purpose. PH promotes volunteering to take mental illness and fight it with the sense of purpose and giving to others. Justin Kruger left his traditional job and with his wife founded PH. He was struggling with his mental health and happened to volunteer with his girlfriend (now wife). Justin felt a meaningful impact from the experience and decided to put his life on a different track.
PH believes that volunteering and the joy one receives from volunteering can improve mental wellness. PH is located in Aurora, Colorado and their volunteers provide services to various groups and people. They have three principles for an agency to qualify to receive their services:
1. The work has to be hands on and engaging. 2. The agency has to make it easy to volunteer. 3. The experience has to be social.

eeting people with mental illnesses is the best way to humanize these diseases. Justin believes that putting a face out there as opposed to numbers or statistics makes a more powerful impact helping to fight the stigma from others and decreasing self-stigma. The positive effects of volunteering help to improve mental wellness for most people. Some agencies they work with create a volunteering partnership with PH because they prove themselves successful with consistent volunteers. These volunteers have helped with homeless youths, child care centers and food banks, along with many other worthwhile opportunities. With the help of these volunteers, PH is currently expanding the list of cities in which they provide volunteer services. Please visit their website and read the heartfelt testimonials of the volunteers. The joy of purpose philosophy is working. Stigmas are being broken down and awareness is growing. The success of PH is being recognized. Their organization is a finalist to win the 2 015 Renewal Award which is sponsored by The Allstate Foundation and Atlantic Media. To qualify, an organization must work at the grassroots level creating change in its community. Project Helping is very proud to be a finalist and all of us here at MOST have our fingers crossed for them.

I spent most of my youth in Paris and was deeply influenced by the innate fashion sense of Parisians. In Paris, not only clothes are inspirational, but also strolling along the Seine or the quartier latin, visiting the Louvres or walking in Luxembourg gardens. Parisian flair is still very much of an inspiration to me when creating outfits.
