The Amazon Princess woke as the morning sun spilled through the forest canopy to caress her cheek. The great Jaguar Warrior, having sacrificed his latest prisoner to the gods, stood at the precipice overlooking the valley he would soon cross with his brothers to join the battle of battles. Word of the Great Battle had spread across time and space, reaching even the great barbarian tribes, scattered as they were. The clans of the Great North gathered, increasing their horde size to an unimaginable degree, to be lead by her, the eldest daughter of the wisest of their kin. He had traded in his life in an effort to bring her the information of the Great Battle, and now she would take great pleasure not so much in winning the Great Battle, but in avenging the man that taught her the meaning of true sacrifice.

The two-spirit Apache warrior leaves his wickiup, his trek to the mesa one of deep thought and reflection upon the eve of battle. He calls upon Yusn, the Giver of Life, and is greeted instead by his Great Ancestor to grant the warrior with wisdom and the gift of an Eagle feather to remind him that, like the feather with both light and dark parts, so is life also divided between daylight and darkness, peace and war, life and death.

No one knew how she had become a Gladiator. There were stories aplenty of how she was captured by a rival army. Or perhaps it was that she was some great condemned criminal chosen for her ferocity and unique skill set. There was even a hint that she might have been a free person that had volunteered to entertain the crowds in bloody battles with men and beasts alike. Whatever the truth of her origins may be, she gave away nothing when it was she that was chosen to enter the Great Battle. If she were to go down in battle, she would not beg for mercy nor would she give it.

The Spartan Hipolite, finally of age to live in his home, watches with a sense of pride as his twin sons of age 7 are taken for the intense training of the Agoge. He has told them tales of war and conquest, and regaled upon them the importance of looking out for each other. He does this not only because he is a Father, but because he knows, once they have departed, that he, too, will leave to take his place within the Great Battle. Once the children are out of sight, he dons armor including his hoplon (shield), xiphos (short sword), and doru (spear). Upon a final kiss to his beloved, he whispers, “I shall come home with this shield or upon it.�

The French King, ever grateful for his valiant Commander of the Musketeers, calls upon him for a private meeting. The Commander mentally prepares himself for the King’s usual accolades that occurs after each attempt on his life. Regardless of this repetitive nature of events, the Commander walks stoically into the King’s private chambers, the vision of strength and honor among his peers. Though the King’s high praise surely comes, it is the word of the Great Battle that holds his attention. Before dawn’s first light, the Musketeer rides upon his steed with a pair of muskets, a pouch of musket balls, a rapier, and a feather in his cap.

Fresh from the First Crusade, she was not only physically exhausted, but soul tired as well. The White Knight rode across his lands, most of which was newly gifted by his lord, hoping to hold in memory every hill and valley, every turn in the river, every petal on every flower. The final defeat of the last of the white dragons earning him high prestige and newly fitted armor for his valiancy. His armor gleamed in greeting to the sun’s brilliance on the new day as he continued to ride heavy hearted knowing that he could not accept such a gift of land as he would soon be riding to the Great Battle, unable to tend to it as would be proper; the code of chivalry keeps his aim of purpose true.

She has no worry over Egypt’s safety as Her northern border is the Mediterranean while the Nile flows from south to north, and five cataracts protect the southern border. Unwilling to accept such a prospect, she journeys out upon her chariot to meet whatever fate Sekhmet would deliver.

And so the Ninja waits. She had moved between the threads of time, silent as a shadow, to bring forth the bravest of warriors for this Great Battle. As if on cue, the torches came to life within the massive cavern, and they began to appear: the Amazon, the Aztec Jaguar, the Barbarian, the Apache, the Zulu, the Viking, the Gladiator, the Spartan Hoplite, the Musketeer, the Crusader, the White Knight, the Rogue Archer, the Persian, the Egyptian, and the Samurai. The Ninja bids them to follow, leading them to prophecy written on a large cavern wall. The writing takes the form of each warriors’ native language and reads: “Warriors brave. The Great Battle is upon us. Dark forces threaten to destroy all that humanity has to offer. Have hope, save hope.” The Ninja bid them to follow once more then draws her katana to slice through the fabric of time. The warriors are never seen or heard from again, not because they failed, but because they succeeded. Throughout history, great men and women have fought to keep dreams alive, fought to keep hope alive. Whenever the darkness comes, remember that that there is a warrior inside you ready to fight. Have hope, save hope.
