esigner and creator of the luxury label, Virginia Martin, bases each of her seasonal collections upon her travels. The knots, ties and bellowing drapery featured within her latest range makes a nod towards the temple mosaics, colonial architecture and Batik printings upon the traditional sarongs and cultural dress of Sri Lankan women. Silhouettes are structured, oversized and minimal, with key colours including bright yellows, tangerines, light blues and greens, with nudes, navy and black grounding the designs. Flowing silks, soft crepe de chine fabrics, cotton, textured weave fabrics and light knits are featured throughout the designs.

6

Patterns which define búl's Spring/Summer ‘16 collection includes the 'blotch' prints showcased upon silk pieces, acknowledging the way sunlight reflects upon Sri Lanka's sapphire shoreline. Whilst thick white and yellow stripes represents the bold yellow outline on the Sri Lankan national flag, meaning unity. búl SS16 range also features minimalistic, mix and match swimwear which is suitable for every body shape, whilst footwear that dominates the collection includes chunky heels and point-toe flats, amplifying the modern, simplistic collection.

SWIMWEAR TRUTHS How to be summer ready with Ruth Hurley WORDS JESSICA LUNAN

Australian boutique swimwear label, RH Swimwear, has just launched their second collection. Characterised by the brands values of classic styles with a modern twist, the range features minimalist pieces, lace-up details, fresh bold prints and block colours allow the collection to be versatile with mix-andmatch options. We spoke with the designer and founder of RH Swimwear, Ruth Hurley, about her inspirations, her top tips to feel good in swimwear and if a woman can ever have too many bikinis.

What do you love most about designing swimwear? I love ... that our customers will be wearing their RH swimmers at some of their happiest times, whether it's relaxing on one of Australia's beautiful beaches or on holiday, for me it's a good day if you're in a bikini! Can a woman ever have too many bikinis? Of course not! Seriously though, one of the reasons I started RH Swimwear was because I felt like there wasn't a brand out there offering our aesthetic at an affordable price. This meant I was only buying 1 or 2 bikinis a season, and to be honest when you live by the beach that's just not enough! What I love about our collections is that you can buy 2 prints and 1 solid colour and mix them all up to create lots of different looks. 12

Where do you find your design inspirations? From all over really - I obviously follow the fashion industry closely, anticipating trends and taking inspiration from catwalk looks; but there's also a lot to be said for gut instinct, I hope that if something really appeals to me then it will also appeal to RH Swimwear customers. What are your 3 tips to look and feel your best in a bikini? 1. Buy a good fitting bikini that you feel comfortable in. 2. Use colour, embellishments and other details to either accentuate you're favourite bits, or to balance out disproportions. I.e. if you're smaller on the top than the bottom, wear a printed bikini top matched with solid colour bottoms in a dark hue. 3. Just try to have fun at the beach/pool (whatever you're doing) and not get too paranoid about body insecurities. If you're enjoying yourself you'll subsequently be feeling good and looking good to others too.

To feel gorgeous and water-ready this summer, be sure to check out the latest RH Swimwear at www.rhswimwear.com.au

MAKE UP

Mackie WITH

WORDS FRANCES VAN EEDEN

This season makeup gets a boost with these summer trends that will have you looking and feeling your best according to the experts. Just like fashion, beauty trends come and go. One season bright colours are in and the next it is all about clean skin and graphic liner. These trends are predicted by runways across the globe and Fashion Weekly has your insight into the hottest trends this season. We caught up with renowned makeup artist Carol Mackie as she shares the top beauty trends straight from Paris Fashion Week.

SKIN IS IN The MAC Senior Artist said dewy and wet looking skin has had its time. This summer the focus of skin is on a smoother, satin finish. This finish creates a soft focus on the face. “You know that the product is there but you can't really see it because it is blended very well, said Mackie. A satin finish is not as drying as matte makeup but will last longer on the skin than a dewy look. Use a stippling brush to buff a satin finish foundation into your skin for a look that is perfected and polished yet natural.

YOU DO YOU Mackie commented that the beauty industry is seeing a big shift towards embracing individuality. Models strutting Fashion Week runways wore makeup that complimented their individual features and face shapes. While one model wore a bold lip, the other flaunted a dramatic eye makeup look. This trend is all about individual style, personality and working with face shapes and is great for the everyday woman. 16

MODERN GRUNGE Worn-in eyeliner, according to Mackie, is a trend that has re-circulated from last season and is still going strong. This grunge makeup with a modern twist involves applying eyeliner and blending it out. This trend is not about being precise but rather embracing your inner artist.

noir

Noir is a timeless collection inspired by boudoir fashion, the seductive art of wearing undergarments as outerwear. Poised with tasteful decadence and stylish decorum, Noir is a stylists' collection that focuses on refining elegant shapes and using light and shade to create beautiful compositions. Through the use of black and white photography the mood of this collection is intensified, allowing the artist to draw on key focal points within each image. With a voyeuristic approach to framing, the overall feel of the collection is sultry and yet the subject remains confident and unaffected by the lens. 18

BREAKFAST

Bonanza WORDS ALANA FLOOD

www.crinitis.com.au 26

A big breakfast can solve a myriad of problems...it can replenish you after an early morning gym session, awaken you after a late night at work, or lead you slowly into recovery after a big night of play. Suffice to say, no matter its purpose, breakfast remains one of the most important meals of the day! Sydney now has a brand new breakfast menu to taste and devour at Criniti's Italian Restaurant! The expanding business has six locations across NSW and has recently been voted Australia's Favourite Italian Restaurant in the 2014 'I Love Food Awards'. As if perfecting wood fired pizzas, brimming bruschetta and homemade pasta isn't enough of a challenge for this restaurant, the team now seamlessly turns its hand to creating a breakfast that has all the hallmarks of an Aussie brunch, mixed with the powerful flavours of an Italian feast.

Fashion Weekly was at the picturesque Finger Wharf, Woolloomooloo location last weekend to soak up the sunshine and taste-test its latest breakfast extravaganza. The menu boasts a wide range of options, from brekkie burgers, to double stack pancakes, egg omelettes, hot pan meals and a variety of breakfast taster boards-just incase you can't make up your mind! There is also a broad selection of drinks from iced coffee, to fresh juices, milkshakes and smoothies. If you're a sweet tooth, the classic 'Acero,' double stack pancakes are for you, with butter and vanilla bean gelato, chantilly crème and maple syrup-guaranteed to quell your morning hunger pangs! If you prefer a more savoury option give one of the breakfast boards a try. The 'Italiano Board,' in particular, hosts a range of Italian cold meats, eggs cooked your way and toasted Italian bread. So no matter what your breakfast taste buds desire you will find something to satisfy them everyday at Criniti's. The beautiful harbour side view goes down a treat as well!
