FASHION WEEKLY TALKS

Renowned Australian fine jeweller Jan Logan is thrilled to celebrate 25 years in the industry. To mark the occasion Jan Logan has announced that Australian Actress, Courtney Eaton is the face of the 2015 Anniversary Collection. The collection features exquisite designs that celebrate the last 25 years and clearly define the future direction of Jan Logan as Australia's leading fine jeweller. We had the opportunity to chat with Jan Logan herself. Here, she talks about the special collaboration with Rachael Taylor and more. Congratulations on celebrating 25 years in the industry. Did you ever imagine that you would be here today? When I started the business in 1989 I kept my focus on getting to know our clients whilst offering a unique mix of jewellery, I did not really plan ahead however I could sense the business had potential. To reach this 25 year anniversary is certainly a milestone worth celebrating. The new 2015 Anniversary Collection defines the future direction of Jan Logan. In three words, could you describe what best sums up the future direction? Unique. Personal. Progressive. You have partnered with the film and television industry's brightest new stars. Do you have a particular favourite moment that stands out? A stand out moment was when we worked with Rose Byrne as our first actress on our 2001 catalogue. We have been very proud to watch the development of her talent as we have observed with all our subsequent talent. 7

Courtney Eaton is the face of the new collection. Was it a difficult decision to narrow down your choice to this beautiful talent? It is becoming more and more difficult as there are so many talented young Australian actresses. We felt that Courtney will have a really interesting career ahead as well as being a beautiful person. The special collaboration with Rachael Taylor has brought to life a short film. Can you tell us a little bit about why this video is so fitting for the 25 year milestone? Working with Rachael has been an extremely rewarding experience. We have been discussing projects for several years and when this anniversary came around we both knew that this was a perfect way to collaborate. The video portrays the journey of aspiring Australian actresses in LA and gives us an insight into their world. This was the perfect synergy for the Jan Logan brand.

Designer Jan Logan

Catwalk Individualism Inspires

Kristy Hodgson's

New Faux Rebellion Collection Sober fashion spun together with recycled styles to form a little fantasy, as seen on the Paris catwalks, is the inspiration of Kristy Hodgson's new Faux Rebellion collection. "I love fashion so creating looks for use at Jarahs in line with new seasons fashion is a real passion of mine," Kristy said. She said that the collection was formed based on the idea of a certain kind of woman. “This woman has access to anything with an endless pit of money and choice but she doesn't always necessarily dress practical. She plays with tradition, borrows looks from the past and turns them upside down whether it is through her hair or her styling, she doesn't like to look like everyone else.” "Paris Fall/Winter 2014 was a pivotal influence on how I thought that this woman would look, so this collection celebrates the fantastic, eclectic mishmash of absolute style and the freedom of the individual that graced the catwalks. "I was inspired by ... Jean-Paul Gaultier, Junya Watanabe, Lanvin, Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs and Jeremy Scott, especially for the hair and/or for the women they were creating for," she said. “What my collection emulates is the same strong, 'lived in', textured looks that speak of individuality and true style." “Having worked on six Australian Fashion Weeks, here I've learnt the value of keeping ahead with fashion to understand hair," Kristy said. “For me hair and fashion are co-dependents with one not being complete without the other." BEAUTY CONFESSIONS

Top 5 Tips For Getting Beautiful Skin This Summer One of the biggest beauty trends for this summer is fresh, glowing skin with minimal makeup. Put your best face forward with the help of skin expert and Brand Manager for Nad's, Natalie Ismiel, who fills us in on her Top 5 Tips for getting beautiful skin from head to toe this summer. Get Your Beauty Sleep Aim to get between 7-9 hours of sleep each night and not only will you feel more energised and productive throughout the day, but your skin will look brighter and clearer. Your skin goes into repair mode while you sleep with lack of sleep causing blood vessels to dilate, which can create the look of dark circles. However, be careful not to overdo it, as research shows that too much sleep can be just as detrimental to the appearance of your skin as too little. Use a Gentle Cleanser Ditch harsh, skin stripping soaps and shower gels that can leave your skin dry and irritated and instead opt for natural cream based cleansers containing shea butter, olive oil and vitamin E.

15

Eat Your Way To Healthy Skin As we enter the holiday season, there are no shortages of social events that revolve around food. Make sure to indulge in plenty of healthy fats, like those found in salmon, avocado and olive oil to reduce skin inflammation. Try to avoid typical party food pitfalls like chips, lollies and spring rolls, which contain high amounts of sodium and sugar and can lead to skin inflammation and bloating. The good news? Dark chocolate, red wine and coffee are rich in antioxidants that help fight free radicals that can damage the cellular structures of the skin, accelerating skin aging. Keep Your Skin Silky Smooth with Waxing Not only is waxing an inexpensive and longer lasting option for hair removal, the right waxing products can have added benefits for your skin. “Waxing has an exfoliating effect and removes dry and dead skin cells, leaving your skin with a silky smooth texture. Unlike shaving, waxing removes that annoying stubble and the regrowth of hair is much slower, meaning that you get much smoother and longer lasting results from waxing. The other benefit is that you avoid any chance of suffering from unsightly nicks and cuts from razors.” says Natalie. Natalie's top pick is the Nad's Body Wax Strips (RRP $10.95) which are quick, convenient and easy to use. The specially crafted natural beeswax formula, available for the face and body, effectively removes hair gently and moulds to all your curves, making it easy to reach those tricky areas. Keep Hydrated “You cannot overstate the importance of drinking enough water to keep your skin looking healthy and fresh. The beauty of this tip is that it is free and there are so many other health and beauty benefits that come from keeping yourself well hydrated.” says Natalie. Research shows that the benefits of drinking more water can range from improved concentration, increased energy and reduced hunger. If you're not a fan of the taste of water and tend to reach for soft drink instead, try adding some lemon or lime to either still or sparkling water to add flavour.

WINE WINNER

SKA Sangria comes in both 750ml and 375ml bottles and contains 6.9% alcohol. To find out more about SKA Sangria and where it's available please visit www.spanishboutiquebeverages.com.au

Two Words to Know this Summer:

Imagine the fiery essence of Spain encapsulated in an Australian-made Sangria which embodies a masterpiece blend of 90% Australian wines, juices and essences. Yes, be in awe of SKA Sangria, they say it is as Spanish as paella and a sensual flamenco dance. This handcrafted ready-to-drink [RTD] blend with a distinctly Australian twist is now a family owned Brisbane business. SKA Sangria is a fusion of cabernet and shiraz grape varietals from several Australian wine regions, and is seductively sweet like it's authentic predecessors but with a modern, preservative-free twist. Mr Lopez said they have developed and fine-tuned the product for three years, determined to offer the market a strong and sophisticated formula that fuses Spanish and Australian culture. “We weren't happy with the Sangria on the market when we owned a Spanish tapas restaurant, so we wanted to create our own and we've worked hard to create a premier blend using a secret recipe that's been passed down in my family from generation to generation, said Mr Lopez. The fresh fruit blend of Sangria works best as a refreshing accompaniment to summertime foods, but can also be enjoyed as a festive winter drink served with heavier and warm appetizers. SKA Sangria was created to match any type of celebration from a simple after5pm get-together to a cocktail party or dinner. The sweet and cool undertones of Sangria complement spicy foods such as chorizos, peppers, and salsa which creates a genuine Spanish experience, or cured manchego cheese and cold cuts such as jamon also work well due to their salty and exotic flavours. 25

A New Year calls for a new you!

“Eat well to live well.” If only it was that simple! When life gets chaotic it is easy to forget about your nutrition. As the New Year approaches Zoe Bingley-Pullin Celebrity Nutritionist and Chef and IsoWhey® Ambassador shares her knowledge about the 5 super foods we need to try in 2015. Add these healthy touches to your diet and get ready to conquer the world! Broccoli Sprout Sprouts have great health properties such as high levels of nutrients and enzymes which can strengthen the immune system and provide the body with energy to detox. Sprouts contain powerful antioxidants which may help fight free radicals as well as minerals that are easily absorbed into the body. The benefit of young broccoli sprouts is that they contain up to 50 times more antioxidant sulforaphane than broccoli according to research presented at the Diet Epigenetic Events and Cancer Prevention Symposium in 2007. (1) Broccoli sprouts also have anti-inflammatory properties.

Collard Greens Collard Greens are green leafy vegetables closely related to kale and cabbage. They contain phytonutrients that are involved in the body's detox system and are packed with antioxidants in the form of vitamins C, A and K. Collard Greens are high in fibre, have anti-inflammatory benefits and are a great source of omega- 3 fatty acids. When including Collard Greens into your meals, they are best steamed or added into a stir fry. If you are using them in a powdered supplement form try adding them to your juice or smoothie for an improved nutritional kick. 26

Lucuma Lucuma is a Peruvian fruit that contains many nutrients including beta- carotene, iron, zinc, vitamin B3, calcium and protein. It is gluten free and a great source of antioxidants, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals that may be of benefit to the immune system. Lucuma has been used for centuries in South America for its medicinal properties. A study conducted by Rutgers University evaluated the anti- inflammatory properties of Lucuma with positive outcome. Lucuma is a brilliant natural sweetener as it is low in sugar and low on the glycaemic scale. It adds a sweet flavour similar to maple. As well as adding Lucuma into your smoothies, try adding it to protein balls or sprinkle it into your tea or coffee if you want to add some sweetness. MACQUI Macqui is a rich dark purple berry from Chile that has high concentrations of antioxidants. As the subject of modern research and hundreds of years of traditional use, Macqui berries, when compared to other berries, are a winner in regards to being one of the richest sources of anti-oxidants available. The deep purple colour of the berry comes from a pigment called anthocyanin which more much more than just a source of colour. Anthocyanin is resistant to redness and responsible for much of the antioxidant power found in the berry. Add Macqui to your raw desserts, chia pudding, sprinkle it on porridge and of course, add it to your smoothies. Sacha Inchi Sachi Inchi, known as the 'Inca peanut', contains high amounts of omega fatty acids 3, 6 and 9. Although it is a recent discovery within the health community, Sacha Inchi has been cultivated and used as a food source for 3,000 years within the Amazon rainforest. When lightly roasted, it takes on a crisp nutty flavor. Studies indicate that Sacha Inchi lowers LDL cholesterol. It also contains a good amount of tryptophan which is a precursor for serotonin, a feel good hormone that helps deal with stress and helps to keep you happy.
