It's beginning to feel a lot like the party season
T
his month our pages are inspired by a dramatic season ahead. From gifts, giving and girly gadgets - we have an abundance of shoppable beauty and fashion items which you are bound to love. Our Trend Report, starting on page 12, is divided into bags, jewels, shoes and sequined dresses that will have you looking ultra fabulous this season. As for inside our section, Beauty Bites (page 20) you may feel torn as you decide whether or not you want everything for yourself or for the ones you love?! The front cover and editorial was inspired by the unconventional becoming conventional. To us, this couldn't have been more relevant as we end this crazy year. The collection has been photographed by Ben Cook for Stevie English Hair and embodies an extreme kind of normal. (see more 30) There's so much more to discover inside, but as we wrap up our 40th issue we want to thank you for your support and dedication to Fashion Weekly. We appreciate each and everyone of you! Lastly, from the entire team here at FW, we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

HOW TO
THE
C E L E B R AT I O N S With the festive season comes the much anticipated Christmas and New Year's Eve Parties, either held by your colleagues or your friends. Whilst it's always fun letting you hair down and dressing up, more often than not it's easy to get carried away and become a little too merry in your celebrations. These tips will ensure you maintain your fabulousness and avoid being the Bridget Jones at your festivities this season. WORDS JESSICA LUNAN
1. ENSURE YOU HAVE PICKED AN OUTFIT THAT YOU FEEL ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS IN Sometimes Christmas and New Year's Eve parties can bring out our inner Fashionzilla (the equal to the Bridezilla). At these events you are catching up with friends you haven't seen for a while, or you are trying to impress work colleagues. The need to find the perfect outfit can be all consuming, or worse you become completely stressed because you haven't found a party dress that is The One. Take a few deep breaths and choose your outfit based on styles you feel good in, after all confidence is always sexy. If you're still in doubt, a sparkly LBD is always perfect for a seasonal party. 2. PACE YOURSELF WITH WATER ‘Tis the season for over indulgence, and it's especially easy to have a few too many champagnes at your Christmas and New Year's Eve parties. A drink of water in between your champagnes will suppress that killer hangover headache, and you'll also avoid taking over the karaoke and doing your best BeyoncĂŠ impersonations (you'll thank us after). 3. CARRY BREATH MINTS You never know who you'll speak to (or run into under the mistletoe) at your Christmas Party. Ensure all your conversations are minty fresh this season by popping breath mints into your clutch. 8
4. PREP YOUR FACE Christmas in Australia is hot! The heat, combined with an overcrowded room, can result in your makeup sliding off if proper precautions aren't taken. Prep your skin with a primer for maximum foundation hold, and wear a sturdy waterproof mascara to avoid any running disasters. 5. KEEP SHINE AWAY Bouncing off tip 4, make sure your makeup is fab all night long by carrying a powder for any shine emergencies. 6. TREAT YOUR TOES While your tallest stilettos always seems like a good idea at the beginning of the night, there is nothing glam about trying to painlessly walk to the taxi after a long evening. Give yourself the gift of comfort and carry a pair of fold up flats with you. They are small enough to pop in your bag, and we can guarantee you'll love yourself for it.

LUXURY FASHION
FOR ALL INTERVIEW FRANCES VAN EEDEN
Dreaming of the latest CĂŠline Trapeze or Gucci boots? E-luxury store Cosette has ensured European designer items are not only accessible, but also more affordable for Australian fashion-lovers.
P
urchasing a designer item is a dream of many stylish women, which is why Sydney-based entrepreneur France Colignon has made it her personal mission to bring exclusive, European items to Australian shores. Colignon combined her European upbringing, fashion industry career and her knack for shopping to establish Cosette, a traditional and online store offering new and exclusive designer items.
10
What inspired you to create your fashion business, Cosette? FC: Through frequently travelling … I noticed there was a huge gap in the Australian [luxury fashion] market. I realised … I could bring the latest European styles to our shores more quickly and accessibly priced … and that's how Cosette was born! What does a day in the life of a head buyer and marketing director of a fashion boutique involve? FC: I always start the day with a take-away latte in hand. As soon as I sit down to check my emails, I hit the ground running. My time is mostly spent in briefings with the Cosette team, discussing … upcoming lookbooks and campaign shoots, managing stock levels and taking international buying calls. What is the ultimate French styling tip you can share with our readers? FC: Don't follow trends, [instead] invest in the classics. Every woman should own a quality, designer handbag and a luxury pair of statement shoes. Are there any habits you have that are reminiscent of your French upbringing? FC: Having a good work life balance is important [for me], as well as always seeking social stimulation from my network of friends [in Sydney]. What is your IT-bag for summer? I can't go past the Givenchy Black Antigona. It's classic and effortless! What's next for you? Cosette is moving from strength to strength since its opening late last year. At the moment we're planning the opening of our new store in Melbourne and have another store planned for the Gold Coast in 2017.
Determined to stay ahead of the pack, Colignon is continually growing Cosette through her exclusive networks of high-end buyers. With plans for stores in Melbourne and Queensland in the works, Australia's fashion obsessed can finally enjoy the latest European designs without the hefty price tag. www.cosette.com.au

MAL.A.PROP.ISM prism noun / ˈpri-zəm a transparent glass or plastic object that usually has three sides and that separates the light that passes through it into different colors mal·a·prop·ism noun / ˈma-lə-ˌprä-ˌpi-zəm an amusing error that occurs when a person mistakenly uses a word that sounds like another word but that has a very different meaning 30
T
he “MalaproPrism Collection was inspired by the unconventional becoming conventional: the beauty in individuality. I have witnessed what used to be referred to as 'counter-culture' becoming increasingly mainstream, and this evolution excites my creativity as well as my personal values. Swimming against the tide is not just acceptable, it is encouraged. A malapropism is an amusing verbal fumble, and is often an endearing and loveable error. A prism is an ordinary object until light hits it, and then it becomes magical. I aim to show the beauty in irregularity, how traditional and classic styles can be redirected and diffused into something out of the ordinary and lovely, but in a different way. I am interested in the way the more extreme elements of fashion have become 'normal'. Pop culture figures like Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj are pushing the boundaries of acceptable social behaviour, but people take their children to see them in concert. Terry Richardson and Juergen Teller present their subjects in a way that is at odds with traditional portrait photography, and are among the most sought-after fashion photographers in the world. I was inspired to showcase individuality with colour, to show how unconventional is the new conventional, how experimentation, error and creativity can have brilliant results. The prism inspired me to explore the idea that something ordinary creates extraordinary beauty, how the extreme spectrum of fashion and society is expanding. Everything is 'normal'!

As for the food‌ There are still the beloved favourites, chicken schnitzel, burgers and pasta, but they have their own unique twist. Think-waffle fries instead of regular fat fries with your Wagyu Beef burger, delectable blue cheese with your pasta, or a side of carrots flavoured with sherry caramel! There are also selections for those opting to move away from the classics. Imagine-pork belly, atlantic salmon or sashimi salad. Or if you want something easy, there is a wide range of specials. The Salad and Wine Deal from Monday to Friday will keep you satisfied during the week, while the Lamb Shoulder (with all the trimmings) is the perfect meal on a Sunday. No matter what you choose, be prepared for an experience that is truly a cut above! www.royalhotel.com.au

Vantage Australia has launched Australia's very first own spirit.
A
ustralian botanicals, lemon myrtle, Tasmanian Mountain Pepperberries with a hint of mandarin oil from Australian produced imperial mandarins, are at the heart of this unique premium tipple. The combination creates a national spirit that can be enjoyed on the rocks or in your favourite cocktail. While Spain has sangria, Mexico has tequila and Russia has vodka, Australia is yet to put its own signature spirit on the map, until now. Reflective of the Aussie outback, Vantage draws its inspiration from native flora. The smoky flavour comes from only using natural bushfoods to create a blend that blurs the lines between sweet and dry. Vantage Australia has the ability to cut across traditional spirit genres, making it the perfect base for most mixers while also giving life to old classics, with an Australian twist.
