EDITOR’S LETTER

30 MARKS THE SPOT T

here are some days when we wake up and think we want change. To change our wardrobe and dress differently. To alter our makeup regime and try something new. Sometimes we want to experience a different flavour or inject a bit of colour to our home interior just so we can see and feel something unfamiliar. Escaping is often motivation for diversity. And that's what we hope Fashion Weekly is to you. A place of retreat from the chaos. An online destination where you can switch off and delve into relevant topics on fashion, beauty, relationships and lifestyle. Our 30th issue marks our journey of evolving. Change is coming and we are thrilled to share it with you. Inside this magazine you will discover a few subtle tweaks but most of all we hope it's visual feast of inspiration. Enjoy xx

OUR

BEST SELF(IE) FORWARD WORDS

I

EMMA CLARKE

t's 2am and the night is the next morning. We're feeling the champagne buzz big time, our feet are telling us we've spent an hour too long on the dance floor and we're ready to send for an Uber. What better time to let the social media world know of the fabulous night we've just had, who we partied with and which bar we had at tab at– if only we were looking as fresh as we were at 7pm the night before. Thankfully, we've taken 40 photos since so there's no drama in posting the one in which our waist looks the smallest, our hair was behaving and that red lippy hadn't bled. How convenient. 14

We are all guilty of putting our best shoe, our best side, our best eyeliner game and our best angle forward on social media. Of the 40 photos we took that night, only one will survive the traitorous world of filters, likes and cropping that is social media. Ladies, welcome to the golden age of online, where every icloud has a silver lining. When Instagram has 150 million active users worldwide and Facebook entertains 250 million, we're not alone in spending a good 10 minutes making that selfie 10% more visually appealing. In an era where we're offered the services of hundreds of photo editing apps at our finger tips, why wouldn't we put them to good work? We paid 99 cents for the privilege, after all. For every minute we're busy at work ensuring our online presence is as glam as possible, we spend double that amount of time assessing everybody else's profiles. When she has those Louboutins, we want them even more than we did yesterday. Traditionally, women are their own worst enemies. We compare ourselves to the most glam, the wealthiest and those with the best social calendars. How did she get her cheekbones to look like that? I need to upgrade my car, a Range Rover perhaps? How can I get an invite to that opening? We all seem to forget she has airbrushed those cheekbones, that BMW she was posing with was just parked on the street and she paid top dollar for the “privilege” of going to that party. Ladies, we too can do our make-up for a selfie, find a stranger's luxury sports car to pose with and buy a ticket to the hottest party in town. It's all a matter of perception. What we see of other women online is their absolute, most edited, highly saturated best. Put on the face and we too can appear just the same. It's only human nature, when given the chance, to put our best selves forward for the world to see especially in the realm of social media. The same women posting pictures of the wardrobes we're jealous of or the hair we wish we had, are probably at home wearing a tracksuit with their hair extensions in a pile on the floor. Social media is a version of reality we're all willingly participating in – for our own personal gain and enjoyment. But let's remember the real world awaits and it's just as glamorous to enjoy the night as it is to post the picture at the end of it all.

BEAUTY REPORT

Fresh IS BACK Flawless and natural is the look of the season. That effortless, bare face trend is the biggest beauty look to be embraced this winter.

LIPS The lack of colour actually makes for a delectable pout. It's intriguing and the barely-there effect of a matte and nude lip is exactly what the cooler months ordered.

CHEEKS Highlighters, concealers and a hint of pink blush is the simple, fresh-skin and healthy-glow look that has taken over the runways. It's irresistible, soft and positively divine.

EYES Eyes this season are taking cue from our naughty side. The morning after makeup look is is a bit sexy, mysterious and totally effective. It's all about the smudge in the eye makeup as you give the illusion of, 'who knows what you were up to last night'.

BROOKE PAGOTTO

s Brisbane city slowly recovers from a little known but long-suffered syndrome called The HoneyPuff Blues following the famous Paniyiri Greek Festival in May, fans of the much loved flavour-fest are in for a huge treat with Zeus Street Greek now open at South Bank.

30

In addition to creating the foundations of democracy and theatre, the Olympic games, great architecture and being the birthplace of the philosophers Aristotle, Socrates and Plato and of course Homer, the Greeks were also culinary visionaries behind Loukoumades (HoneyPuffs of course), Spanakopita, Souvla, Haloumi, Tzatziki and Pitas – all dishes that Brisbane adores! Now open in South Bank's Little Stanley Street, Zeus Street Greek will celebrate the very best of Australian-Hellenic flavours, in new-fangled street food style, reflecting modern flavour combinations and palates. The Zeus Street Greek menu gives Greek cuisine a serious and long overdue street cred with front and centre the Zeus Pita menu featuring eight options, all created in the Zeus kitchen. The menu combines traditional anchors like pork, lamb and chicken, with signature flavours and super fresh ingredients, peppered with lemon juice, seasonings and lots of specialist herbs. All Pitas can also be ordered nude. The Salads and Sides menu stars the dishes that make Brisbane positively drool – Spanakopita, Corn Cobs, Haloumi, Calamari, Zeus' famous Feta and Oregano Chips, Tzatziki and Taramasalata along with variations on the classic Greek Salad – the Aegean, Village, Beetroot and Green Bean. Zeus is the shared culinary child of Costa Anastasiadis, the original founder of Crust Gourmet Pizza, and George Kyrprianou from Pony Ding Brisbane; two Greek boys who grew up together and have always worked in hospitality – it's in their DNA. Their partnership puts pay to the very philosophy of Zeus. “At the essence of Zeus is a sense of sharing – to share the table with your friends, your family; this is one of the oldest Greek traditions there is and it is very important to us. It was Plutarch, a Greek historian who said, 'We do not sit at the table to eat … but to eat together' and this mantra rings true to us at Zeus – we call it Filoxenia, or to show hospitality to all,” said Costa. Heading the Zeus kitchen is Brisbane-born Chef Damian Draper, the culinary whiz behind Pony Dining Brisbane, and a famed meat specialist, renowned for coaxing incredible flavours from all cuts. Zeus itself features an authentic design, paying tribute to authenticity of the Greek kitchen, while still creating a bespoke or 'street' experience. Zeus produce is sourced from people like the owners – families who care about what they put into the land whether they are harvesting olives or growing lambs.
