his week I'm writing to you with a fresh perspective. Last month, Fashion Weekly made the move into a new office space which embodies our branding and direction. One of the first visitors of our new home said they could feel the creative energy in the room. So we're hoping that you can feel it too as you flick through the pages of our latest issue. On another note, when moving forward there's an unwritten rule where reflection sets in. And that's why we've titled the cover 'Nostalgia'. Join us as we talk you through the latest trends of the season, which includes a bit of power play from Nobody Denim (see page 14) plus our runway recap from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane on page 10. We've also uncovered a popular makeup look for spring. See our 1960s MOD eyes with a modern twist on page 20. Whilst reminiscing on the past and looking forward to the future, undoubtedly waves of emotions will arrive. That's why we had to tell you about a new app we've discovered called, Realifex. It acts as a personal, private journal and gives the user insight into their own behavioural and emotional patterns. (see page 38) Like always, enjoy and stay tuned for some new changes which are kicking off in a few weeks!

MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION FESTIVAL BRISBANE 2015 FROM THE TOP TRENDS TO THE M O S T U N F O R G E T TA B L E M O M E N T S . WORDS JESSICA LUNAN

This year's Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival (MBFF) has been packed with amazing designs, revolutionary moments and all round glam. Here are our favourite top trends, and unforgettable moments from this year's MBFF.

10

T

he unveiling of the ten Mercedes-Benz cars by designers including Alex Perry and Maiocchi, was a great way to launch and celebrate 10 years of MBFF in Brisbane. Jennifer Hawkins walking in MYER's showcase really had us excited. Not only was she gorgeously dressed in Alex Perry's stunning 'Raglan Lace Cloque Pencil Dress', Hawkins embodied the all-woman persona, strutting the runway in additional, sequined looks by Aje and a monochromatic bikini and sheer sarong skirt by her swimwear brand Cozi. Tengdahl's unusual mix of earthy colours, layering and fabrics, with hints of 1970's boho chic with a cool-girl vibe was a favourite on the catwalk; a theme influencing White Label Noba's 1970s fringing's, and flowing, comfortable-chic dresses. Roux May's electric mix of clashing prints and layered silhouettes signified that being brave and having fun with fashion can give off amazing, eye catching results. Sacha Drake's fabulous collection, featured horizontal stripes, pastel florals, highwaisted skirts and off the shoulder crops, highlighting the top trends and hues for the season. Sacha Drake's last gown featured a written 'thank you' message on it, which was a 'moment' at this year's MBFF. Tengdahl

For the bridal collections, Paul Hunt's beaded crop top with diamante shoulder straps and a pastel blue printed skirt stood out, showcasing that patterns, texture and embellishments and different cuts are introducing a modern twist to bridal wear. Finally, George Wu was definitely one of our all-time favourite collections for the year. His impeccable attention to detail and elegant creations are what make him one of Australia's leading designers. The creative talent sent Roman goddesses with an edge down the runway. Sculptured bodices, off the shoulder necklines, lace details and drapping with effortless silhouettes left the crowd in awe. Of course, spotting celebrities, such as Vogue's Editor-in-Chief Edwina McCann, Athlete Sally Pearson and Designer Alex Perry floating around at the shows, and hearing designers talk about their amazing collections was a highlight for us. It was fantastic to see our industries famous-faces along with fashion lovers from around Queensland coming together to celebrate Brisbane's fashion scene.

Modern Twist

WORDS FRANCES VON EEDEN

Chances are, if you have seen the newly released film The Man From U.N.C.L.E, you are obsessing over all things 60s! Gaby Teller's lashes had us in a trance throughout the movie.

W

ith television and big screen hits like Mad Men, The Man From U.N.C.L.E and Aquarius, it is no surprise that 60's beauty and fashion is hot right now. The biggest beauty trend of the 60s is undoubtedly the 'MOD eye', inspired by supermodel Twiggy Lawson. Beauty looks on the runway for Spring 2015 confirmed it- doe-eyed lashes are back! Fluttery and bottom-heavy lashes are big on the red carpet, with celebrities Zooey Deschanel, Dianna Agron and Ginnifer Goodwin pulling off the trend. According to celebrity hair and makeup artist Sue Marshall, “The trend brings the focus back to the lashes - and as we know there is nothing more dramatic and transformative in eye makeup than false eyelashes. Full and thick lashes were so highly coveted in the 60s that women wore two pairs of falsies to achieve voluminous lashes. Thankfully, advances in the beauty industry means fake lashes are customised for varying effects. To recreate this strong yet doeeyed look, focus on applying volume to the bottom lashes. MODELROCK Lashes has 8 different bottom eyelash styles available. Read on to find out how you can achieve this lash look in 3 easy steps.

astel Sundaes is a contemporary collection inspired by different and contrasting fashion trends. The colour tones chosen were pastel, but cooler mauves, muted peach, smokey greys, aqua, turquoise and metallic blues and violets were used. With multiple trends to choose from, Hair Stylist Andre Faiva from Revolution Hairdressing chose to fuse trends in a way that would be fresh and new. Heavily influenced by the late styles of the 80's and early 90's, she has created a high-end collection with street cred. “I love mis-matched textures, patterns and prints thrown together [to] create a confused fusion."

LE Dร NER EN BLANC TO HOST

e t i h W e t u H a Dinner Party THIS OCTOBER

WORDS JESSICA LUNAN

Once upon a time, in a city called Brisbane, a secret, open air dinner party was taking place. All throughout the city the fabulous were invited to dress in beautiful white gowns and suits, pack a picnic basket and dine under the stars at a magical party.

S

ounds like fairy-tale right? Well, this year the fourth Le Diner en Blanc will take place at a new secret location in Brisbane, on Saturday the 17th of October.

The mystical dinner party first began in Paris in 1988, when founder Franรงois Pasquier, wanted to find a way to catch up with friends after being abroad. Attendees to the picnic steadily began to increase, so Pasquier decided to move the picnic into Paris, with guests wearing only white as a means to spot each other. Due to the sheer number of attendees, the police began to shut down the picnic, and that is when the secret location was born. 35

The news of the impromptu picnic between friends steadily spread across the globe, and today over 25 countries annually host chic dinner parties, with Brisbane being one of 20 cities to uptake the event in 2012. According to Brisbane host of Le Diner en Blanc, Amy Grey, the events concept has been heavily adapted here to great success, with the picnics traditional “rules” being maintained. “[We've] taken up the tradition of the secret location, of the dressing in white, the French champagne and wine, the food and the great atmosphere,” said Grey.

Le Diner en Blanc is quickly becoming one of the most popular pop-up events in Brisbane. The event proves to be a great way to meet new people, enjoy the company of your significant other or friends, and participate in an event which celebrates Brisbane. “It's fun, everyone is friendly, you get to dress up, you get to eat some lovely food and all round it's just a magical thing, said Grey. Tickets are set to sell out fast, with only 2,000 being available this year. Registration for the event happens in three stages, the first being for members who attended the previous year; the second being for new members who are referred by last year's attendees; and the final being for people who signed up on the waiting list via the official website.

Read the full feature at www.fashionweekly.com.au Tickets are available at www.brisbane.dinerenblanc.info/register, with additional information being posted to the events Facebook page.

INNER THOUGHTS WORDS FRANCES VON EEDEN

d e l a e v e r

With the National R U OK? Day being in September, there has been a lot of discussion regarding mental health this month. Anyone who has struggled with mental health knows that the best strategy to keep on top of your feelings is to keep some form of a journal. If you think journaling sounds like something only little girls do – you are wrong. Keeping note of what you are feeling and when you are feeling it can help you pinpoint which factors in your life are causing these negative feelings.

A new app, called Realifex from real life experience, does just that! The Realifex app allows users to record their own life experiences and document how each experience has made them feel. The app aims to help users be more aware of their moods and routines. It makes sense to keep a journal on your smartphone as society generally uses technological devices more often than they use pen and paper. There is also no need to worry about who will read your journal as everything on the app is completely private to the user. Alex Prate, founder of Realifex, believes this app is exactly what people need to make themselves more aware of their feelings. “I believe only a small minority of people think deeply and regularly about what could positively influence their life and follow their own path,” says Alex. “For this reason I created Realifex, to help individuals understand their life experiences and emotions with more clarity and hopefully use this information to guide them down the right path for the future.” The app allows users to be more mindful of their own life decisions containing features such as Life Path - which allows users to see trends in their emotions over time - and Life Focus – which allows users to see which aspects of their life is influencing them either positively or negatively. The app allows users to review their recordings and take note of which parts of their life is causing them discomfort. Knowing what aspects are causing negative thoughts and feelings is one step closer to taking action and eliminating those feelings. 38

Realifex is available for iPhone and Apple Watch. The app is currently available to purchase from the Apple App store for $1.25 per month for 12 months. You can also try the app for free with a 10 day trial period. For more information please visit www.realifex.com
