THE GROVE AT GAINESVILLE is home to Prince William County’s largest data center building (so far) and is rising along John Marshall Highway. It’s bigger than any local high school and, when fully built out, will require the power of 150,000 homes

Biden bows out of 2024 race; endorses VP Kamala Harris

State and local Democratic officials praised President Joe Biden for his “patriotism” and “courage” Sunday in the wake of his historic decision to drop his reelection bid amid concerns about his fitness for office. After Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him, Virginia’s Democratic elected officials, as well as its slate of delegates to the Democratic National Convention next month, quickly coalesced around her candidacy. Visit princewilliamtimes.com for more state and local reactions to Biden’s decision and ongoing coverage of the 2024 election.

As a new data center project looms, Prince William County officials are taking steps toward formally marking the site of one of the region’s few historic African American horse show grounds. At its meeting July 17, the Prince William County Planning Commission unanimously recommended that a 37-acre parcel at Wellington Road and Freedom Center Boulevard be rezoned to allow for two new data centers. But because the area was once home to the Manassas Colored Horse Show Association, the commission also recommended that the developer pay for an interpretive site that will commemorate that unique history. The show grounds and racetrack sat on an 81-acre parcel that was purchased in 1854 by Susan Gaskins, an African American woman who was born free. See HISTORIC, page 2
