NEVER - THE SAME DAYS Message from the Interim Pastor Bro. Bob Adams the activities of this day it was a time of excitement, questioning, and sometimes fear, but none of them expected the week to change their lives forever, much less the course of mankind. Nevertheless, the history changing day came. Jesus entered Jerusalem to the shouts and applause of thousands of people, made His way quietly to the end of the week where those same people called out for His death. He then died on a wretched Roman cross. Three days later He rose from the dead never to die again!
All of us have defining days in our lives, days that change the trajectory of our lives. Not many days ago Janice and I witnessed one of those life changing days. One of our granddaughters in Michigan was married! It was a beautiful day full of laughter and rich with meaning. But that day didn’t just happen. She spent months preparing for this one, brief defining day. People have defining days, and so do nations. But there is one week in the long history of mankind in which everything changed - not just for one person, nor even for a nation, but for every person who has ever lived. When this profoundly important day came, it was hardly noticed. The day was not carefully recorded by the media. There were no paparazzi following the central figure. To the people involved in

His death and resurrection changed everything. Because of those few days, God’s grace and forgiveness fell over the whole earth. We live and breathe that grace all day and all night. The door to heaven opened and the invitation went out to everyone, “Come home. Your Father loves you!” We call those life-changing, world-changing days “Holy Week.” The week comes in the Spring of each year. This year it begins with Palm Sunday on April 14th and concludes with Resurrection Sunday, April 21st. Even as our granddaughter spent months preparing for the one day of her wedding, and preparation for Holy Week started even before the earth was formed, we are to prepare ourselves for the worship and activities of Holy Week.
You can prepare by: ╬╬ Being present in our morning worship services where we listen and think about Jesus’ words from the cross. ╬╬ Reading the narratives of Jesus’ death and resurrection found in all four Gospels. Read them slowly, absorb both the facts and the truths of the verses. Read them many times. ╬╬ Find one gospel, hymn, or praise song centered in Jesus’ death and resurrection and make it your theme song for these days. Listen to it and sing it often. ╬╬ Join us for Palm Sunday worship as the choir leads us to the cross and where we will partake of the bread and cup of Communion. ╬╬ Be part of the crowd of people who carry the cross to the Fair Grounds on Good Friday. ╬╬ Come to worship on Resurrection Day (Easter Sunday to the world) ready to celebrate and worship the risen Jesus who is with us now! Grateful the mercy of our Father allows me to share this special time with you.
Bob Adams.
Memory Verses for April 2019
Sunday April 7th, 2019 “having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 14 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.” Colossians 2:14-15 13
Sunday April 21st, 2019
“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. 21For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.” 1 Corinthians 15:20-21 20
Sunday April 14th, 2019 And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. Luke 22:19-20 19
Sunday April 28th, 2019 “These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.” John 15:11 11

Reaching America through the Annie Armstong Easter Offering Rev. Joey Miller, Associate Pastor How can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? -- Romans 10:14-15 We have just completed our Week of Prayer for the North American Missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. We know that the challenges are great in America. We grieve the deterioration of our culture and the spiritual condition of our nation. Our mission field is vast, and the needs are great. And that’s why we must keep on praying. Our 5000 plus missionaries in North America are backed by a network of churches like ours who believe in missions, pray for missions, and support missions. So, what is our part in working together to see America come to Christ? 1. We can continue to pray fervently – We know that prayer can change a city and a nation. In New York City, a prayer meeting that began with six people meeting once a week turned into a national movement of prayer meetings across the country. Revival came, lives were changed, souls were saved, and our nation saw spiritual awakening. 2. We can become educated as to what is happening on the mission front and how we can further pray for and support our North American missionaries. Each Sunday during our worship services over the coming weeks, a video will help us learn what our missionaries are doing and how we can partner with them.
6 / The Br idg e
3. We can support North American missions by giving – Each year we as a church give to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering in support of North American missions. Without this offering, our missionaries would not have the opportunity to influence lives the way they do. Our North American missionaries are sharing the good news of Jesus, starting new churches in unreached communities, and meeting needs through compassion ministries. Everyday lives are being impacted and transformed through God’s grace. However, their effectiveness is dependent on our joining others in giving to meet the challenge before us. Last year’s offering by Southern Baptists surpassed $61 million. 4. We can involve our families – As we teach our children, we want them to learn the value of missions and the blessings of giving. This year at First Baptist Church, we are doing our Annie Armstrong Offering a bit different. Instead of setting a church goal, we are encouraging families to set a family goal and encourage each family member to find ways to help reach the family goal. Then on Sunday, April 14th, during our morning services, we will have an ingathering of all our family offerings. We are excited to see how God is going to work through each of our families. The needs are great, but the love and life of Christ are greater. Together we can make it happen. Thank you for reaching out with hope to our community and for supporting North American Missions through your prayer, your giving, and your involvement.

Lord speaks to me and teaches things in the most unlikely scenario. I would like to share one of those scenarios with you. A few weeks ago, I was preparing for spring by pulling weeds out of the flower beds. When I’m pulling weeds, I have one thing on my mind … pulling weeds up by the root. Occasionally, I get that stubborn weed that doesn’t want to come up by the root but instead breaks off at the stem. During this weed pulling experience I reached down to pull a weed that was about 4-inches tall (not a big weed, but big enough to grab and pull). To my surprise this weed that was about 4 inches and had a root double the length of the weed (notice the picture). Typically, when I find something like this, I just throw it aside and do not think about again, BUT the Lord tends to teach me things in the most unlikely scenario. In this moment I saw my life as the garden bed and this 4-inch weed to be little sins that I allow to creep up and grow in my life. From a distance this small 4-inch weed is not noticeable. Even when you get up close, this 4-inch weed is not a big deal. The 4-inch weed is not necessarily the problem. The view from the outside is definitely not the problem. The problem lies with what is buried deep down inside, the root. The Lord does not care about what is happening on the outside; He is concerned with the inside. These small 4-inch weeds that I might let creep up and grow in my life may seem like they are not hurting me, but deep down they are establishing big roots in my life. These small “insignificant” sins that we allow to creep and grow in our lives carry with them big issues inside our hearts and lives. What are YOU allowing to grow in your life? Even those small 4-inch weeds need to be pulled out, because those small 4-inch weeds dig deep roots in our lives.
How do we go about pulling up our sinfulness? Recognize that small 4-inch sinful weeds in your life is in fact a sin and needs to go. Through prayer, ask the Lord to help you remove that small 4-inch sinful weed from the root from your life. In the physical garden bed, pulling weeds can be a daily task (I don’t physically do it every day, but it could be done daily). In the garden bed of our lives, the task of identifying and pulling up sinful weeds ought to be a daily discipline, knowing that without Christ we may only clip the sinfulness off at the stem. Christ helps us get to the root of our issues. Through grace and truth, the Lord is faithful to remove the 4-inch sinful weeds that creep up and grow in our lives. Our role is to give Him Lordship and allow Him to rule and reign in and through us. The Apostle Paul challenged the church of his day to “walk” in Christ and thus be “rooted” and “built up in Him.” Colossians 2:6-7, “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” The more we “walk” with Christ, live for Him and seek to know Him, the more we will be “rooted and built up in Him.” Let us see the sin in our lives for what it truly is, confess that sin to the Lord, allow Him to pull those weeds from our lives daily, and then walk in Him so that we are rooted and built up in Him.
A Note from Bro. Butch Reviere we got a glimpse of the idea of redemption.
On April 14th, Palm Sunday,
our Sanctuary Choir will be presenting an Easter musical entitled, Blessed Redeemer. The following was penned by the creators of this musical, Dennis and Nan Allen. “These days, we redeem points or coupons for discounts or merchandise. In our day, we traded in our S&H Green Stamps at a redemption center—a wonderful place where we had choices of household appliances, home decorations, and even toys. It was at these centers that
In Biblical terms, what Jesus did for us on the cross—His redemption—coincides with this idea. To redeem is to gain possession of something through an exchange. It also means to pay to clear a debt or to make amends for errors. But these definitions don’t even come close to accurately describing the impact of what our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, did on Calvary. This musical was prayerfully designed to help believers and nonbelievers to sense the power of the cross, to accept the forgiveness that is ours because of Christ’s sacrifice, and to surrender what we don’t understand about it to faith in God’s divine plan.”
On that Sunday morning, we will also commemorate Christ’s amazing sacrifice by celebrating together The Lord’s Supper. Remember also that we and others of our community will be “Carrying the Cross” on Friday, April 19th. And then…Resurrection Sunday on the 21st! As the old hymn reminds us: “Mercy there was great, and grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to me. There my burdened soul found liberty…At Calvary.
“My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to You, O God, because You have redeemed me” (Psalm 71:23, HCSB).

FBC Kids News April begins a season of tremendous busyness in the life of our Preschool and Children’s Ministry. While the goal of this ministry is not to create more for parents or children to do or to be kept busy, we have stepped into a season of increasing opportunity for ministry as the children prepare to be out of school for both the Easter Holidays and summer. Here are some things you won’t want to miss: April Showers Food Drive: Personal Care Items Well, it’s not exactly a food drive, but it will benefit our Washington Parish Food Bank. During the month of April, we will be collecting personal care items…bars of soap, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. Once again, all items collected will help earn points for our VBS Missions Challenge for their team. Be sure to drop your donation in your team’s colored can by the FBC Kids bulletin board! The March Madness Food Drive is still too close to call! Joyful Noise Choir: Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. We have a presentation coming up on Sunday evening, April 28th. If your child is planning to be a part of this, please be sure that they are arriving for choir promptly. Practice only lasts 30 minutes and late arrivers are missing multiple songs. Monday, April 1st: Deadline to sign up for the Spring Break Craft Camp Be sure to call or text Kelly to add your child’s name to the list. We only have 12 spots. Details are listed below (under Thursday, April 18th). Sunday, April 7th at 4:30 p.m.: CentriKid Parent Meeting, Senior Adult Center If your child is signed up to attend CentriKid camp with us this summer, you won’t want to miss this very important (and only!) meeting! It is not necessary for the kids to attend, but they are welcome to be in the room. If you have any specific questions that may apply to the whole group, please be sure to write them down so you don’t forget them! I will be answering child-specific questions after the meeting.

Sunday, April 14th, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.: Preschool Egg Hunt and Breakfast This year, our annual Egg Hunt will take place during our Sunday School hour. PK3-K will enjoy breakfast in the Family Life Center with the Sunday School classes, a brief devotion, and an Egg Hunt on the playground. Our Toddlers will have breakfast served in their classroom and enjoy finding eggs hidden around their room. If you would like to be a parent volunteer for the breakfast and Egg Hunt, please let Kelly know! Children will need to bring a basket (no Easter grass, please). Parents, please be advised that the PK3-Kindergarten classes will be on the playground during the Egg Hunt. It is an insurance regulation that shoes must be worn. Please keep in mind that rocks become lodged in sandals, making it very uncomfortable for the children. If at all possible, please plan to send your child in socks and close-toed shoes on this morning. If your child has any food allergies that we need to be mindful of when purchasing breakfast foods, please let Kelly know. Wednesday, April 17th: Great Red Easter Egg Hunt, Mile Branch Settlement We will leave at 6:00 p.m. to travel to Mile Branch Settlement for our annual Great Red Easter Egg Hunt. This event is open to our 1st-6th graders and their friends. However, for each child attending, I must have a completed Student Emergency Card signed by a parent or legal guardian before leaving. Student Emergency Cards are valid from June 1st until May 31st, so if your child attended any I Love Tuesday events in the 2018 summer, I still have their card on file. Student Emergency Cards are available on Wednesday nights from me or in the office during normal business hours. Students without a signed Student Emergency Card on file will not be able to attend. Sorry, there are no exceptions. Thursday, April 18th from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.: Spring Break Craft Camp, hosted by April Nobles The deadline to sign up for this event is Monday, April 1st and there are only a few spots. The cost is $40 and includes all supplies and a snack (be sure to eat lunch before you arrive). You will want to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! This event is open to 1st-6th graders.
Friday, April 19th: Carry the Cross Families are invited to join us at 9:00 a.m. in the Dirt Cheap parking lot. We will walk to the Fairgrounds. Children are always welcome to attend with their parents. We just ask that you talk with them about the reverence of the journey we are going to be taking and be mindful of keeping them on your right side and away from traffic. It is very important, given the large numbers of people who walk with us, that your children be near you as we walk. Sunday, April 21st: Easter Sunday There is no Wee Worship in our 8:15 a.m. service or in our 10:45 a.m. so that families can celebrate Easter together. Also, there are no evening services on Easter Sunday. Wednesday, April 24th, beginning at 5:30 p.m.: Joyful Noise Final Practice of ‘Worship Together’ This will be our final practice for our upcoming presentation. If your child plans to be a part of our presentation on Sunday, April 28th, please be sure that they are in attendance beginning at 5:30 p.m. sharp. We will be practicing upstairs in the Children’s Department and expect to be done about 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28th at 6:00 p.m.: Joyful Noise Presentation of ‘Worship Together’ Children will need to arrive by 5:30 p.m. in the upstairs Children’s Department. Please be sure that the children have been to the restroom, do not have any food, drink, snacks, candy, or gum with them, and that they aren’t carrying anything extra with them (jackets, purses, phones, etc.). Attire is Spring Dressy Casual. Please invite your guests to join us afterwards! Sunday, April 30th: Deadline to sign up to be a part of our Mother’s Day Baby Dedication Please see the FBC Kids bulletin board beginning April 1st to register your child for this special service. Baby Dedication is a covenant between parents and our church. As such, it is necessary for parents to be members of First Baptist Church in order to participate in this service. Additionally, while it is customary for parents to dedicate new babies, if you have a young child and are new to the life of our church, please feel free to contact Mrs. Kelly about having your child participate.

Washington Parish Food Bank & Thrift Shop Although we had to stop on March 1st taking new food bank clients because of the inability to support any more families with the decreased food supply we are still experiencing, we have given out four emergency food boxes and at least ten referrals to other food banks, and that has been in only the first thirteen days of the month. Yes, that is hard to believe, but it again points out the tremendous need in our community. Please pray for more funding and more available food so children and adults alike do not have to go to bed hungry.
about others. We had tuna and macaroni and cheese for all who wanted it last month. It was awesome! And finally, thanks to Bro. Cody and the youth who came out on Mardi Gras day to push shopping carts, load cars, fold grocery bags, and minister to our families who so enjoy having the young people around. Food items we could use now are Hamburger Helper, pasta and noodles, rice sides, any boxed potato sides, and any canned fruit.

Thank you to the recent increase in members of our church family who have stepped up to donate food items and money to help meet the needs. We just purchased 60 cases of needed vegetables for which the cost was covered by two recent donations from church members. Thank you, thank you. Thank you also to the preschoolers and children (and their parents) who gave to the March Madness Food Drive and especially to Kelly McElveen who always finds ways to help the food bank while teaching children to love Jesus and care The Washington Parish Food Bank is located at 2208 Washington Street, Franklinton, LA 70438 & can be reached at (985) 322-2017. 1 4 / The Br idg e

Mission Opportunities
I am always amazed at the life story that God weaves using people like you and me, and how His plan and His will are being accomplished throughout the world. As I’ve said before, back in 2010, when we first went to Buena Vista and Guayabo, there were no evangelical churches in either village. Our hearts were broken over the lostness of the people in both villages. I remember well the woman who stood up at a closing service in Buena Vista and asked that we please come back again. We have honored her request every year since then. Over the years our mission teams have shown the love of Christ to the people in both villages through many ministries. But, although those ministries relieved physical stresses for a short time, the greatest need was to be born again, to be free from the penalty and power of sin, and to live with and for the Lord Jesus Christ. Five years ago, a small house church formed, and met in Pastor David Lopez’s living room. That little group has grown to about 40 members as new families come to faith in Christ. And, to the glory of the Lord, they have outgrown David and Nellie’s living room! They need a church building to meet in, along with rooms for Sunday School, and possibly a baptistry.
My heart is bursting with pride (in a good way) to tell you all that recently the Word of Truth Baptist Church in Buena Vista has started buying materials to build a church! I get very emotional when I think about the fact that I’m seeing a dream come true. The total cost for this building is around $20,000. Through the generosity of a few folks here they have half of that cost already. As good stewards of God’s resources we are urging the church members in Honduras to contribute also to the construction of the church. But, to be honest, they are very limited in their funding. This is not an official appeal for funding for the church in Honduras, but if anyone feels led of the Lord to contribute to the building of the church, it will be greatly appreciated. Annotate your gift to “Ignite Missions: Buena Vista Church”. As always, thank you for your prayers and support of our mission to Honduras. Thank you for being a part of God’s plan as you pray and go on these mission trips with us. God bless, Bro. Dale
