The For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12, NKJV. Dreams have always left me quite puzzled. I seldom remember the details of my dreams, yet those I do remember often are filled with the most absurd scenarios. There seems to be no event or experience that normally precedes a vivid dream sequence. I have not been able to draw any correlation to my ingestion of spicy food the night before or any such dietary change. Both Testaments of Scripture record times when dreams were directed by the Lord in a prophetic way. I do not claim to have had any of those type dreams. My nighttime dreams seem pretty random and disconnected from reality.
I believe our God is intensely interested in our daydreams; in fact, I believe His Holy Spirit will direct them if we submit them to Him. Why else would Jesus have used so many parables, analogies, and illustrations? When I read the Parable of the Sower in Luke 8, I can see the farmer sowing the seed. If I allow the Spirit to have control of my imagination as I read, I can see the literal story unfold as it was told by Jesus while simultaneously seeing its spiritual application. This type of daydreaming is both positive and edifying to the follower of Jesus Christ. This daydream is Holy Spirit led and scripturally driven. I would submit that this is a vital component of the spiritual discipline of My daydreams are different. Daydreams scriptural meditation. reveal much more about my wants, desires, and aspirations. sufficiency of the Holy Spirit to provide all we need to do the work of Christ in Franklinton. I read Ephesians 4:11-16 and I see God will use each of us to minister to one another that we might collectively, “reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into a mature man with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness,” (Ephesians 4:13b, HCSB). What a beautiful daydream! What a glorious meditation! This is not some idealistic pipedream. I am not dreaming about something I can never afford. This is God’s plan and intention for His Church. If we are wholly surrendered to the Holy Spirit, the secondary, material things of this world will be put in their place. Our daydreams will become consumed by a new passion and focus. We will begin to daydream about new levels of Christian maturity and service (for His glory). Our daydreams will begin to focus on bringing the lost to Christ and our part in it (for His glory). Our daydreams for our children will begin to be more focused on their spiritual service than their secular advancement (for His glory). Do you see a trend? Take a few moments today, open God’s word, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you daydream about God’s Mission, His Glory.
Every Christian has been called to share the good news of salvation in Christ alone. The apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:20, “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us; we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” I hope you notice that Paul doesn’t single out groups of people to be ambassadors for Christ, such as pastors, church staff, or super-Christians. Every believer is called to share Christ. Is He not the greatest and the best part of our lives? Is He not our only hope in this life and in life to come? But how do we share Christ, and more importantly what is our motivation for sharing Christ?

A good ambassador is an accurate representative of his king. For us to be accurate representatives of King Jesus, we must know Him intimately. I have said from the pulpit before, “we can’t talk about that which we do not know”. Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? It’s true that our finite minds can’t comprehend all that He is, but do we spend time thinking about His majesty, His glory, His holiness, His righteousness, His love, His grace, His mercy, His absolute right over our lives? Or, are we in such a state of hurriedness in our lives that we only know about Jesus what we hear from Christian radio or in church on Sunday mornings? When we have a proper view of who Christ is, He becomes our motivation for evangelism. And the greater our view of Christ, the more we want others to know Him. But what about our methods for evangelism? Where do we usually start with a person when we are witnessing to them? When we are talking to someone about Christ, do we ever consider their need to recognize God’s rights over them, or do we skip that truth and move directly to “God loves you and wants you to be in heaven with Him”? Are we only interested in getting another one into heaven without any thought of their need for redemption now? Naturally, we want the person to go to heaven some day, but heaven should not be our starting point. Instead, God and His law is where we should start. Romans 3:23 says that “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” God is holy. Holiness is what He is. Everything about Him is holy, even what He says. We have all broken God’s royal law, and the penalty for breaking His law is death. We deserve death, judgement, and hell. We don’t like to talk about sin because we all have sinned in our lives. We don’t like to feel like we are judging a person. But until the person we are witnessing to comes to grips with their sin, they will never come to true faith in Christ. A 17thcentury proverb says, “The needle of the law must puncture the hard leathery heart before the thread of the gospel can pass through.” Popular street preacher Ray Comfort will ask a group of people on the street, “Has anyone ever told a lie?” A few hands will sheepishly go up, and then Comfort says, “Then God says that you are a liar, and there are no liars or lies in heaven.” God has given us His word and His law to use to break up the hard ground of a person’s heart in witnessing to them. It’s not judging them to point out their sin, but it is passing judgement on them to say we love Jesus yet keep silent and let people lead lives that will end in destruction. Keep seeking the King,
“They all met together and were constantly UNITED in prayer.” – Acts 1:14 This verse is the theme verse for this year’s See You At The Pole event. Way before See You At The Pole began, this verse described the small group of believers post Jesus’ ascension. This verse is describing a group of believers before the Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost. This small group of believers met together and was united in prayer before 3,000+ people came to know Christ. As I ponder this verse, a few questions arise: What does it mean to be “united”? How can a group of people be “constantly united”? How does prayer bring about people being united? How can a group of believers today be “constantly united in prayer”?

REACHing In and REACHing Out Upcoming Events Sept 6th: Pancake Promotion Sunday @ 9:45 a.m. Student Ministry Leadership Team Meeting @ 11:30 a.m.
Sept 23rd:
We see a better picture of the early church being united post-Pentecost in Acts 4:31-32, “When they had prayer, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak God’s message with boldness. Now the large group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one said that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common.” They were of one heart and one mind; what does that mean? They were united. Their hearts and minds were fixed on Jesus Christ and the mission to make His glory known. They were “constantly united” because of their faith in Jesus. Being a Christian was not something they did one or two days a week, it was their identity. Like-minded people have a tendency to become united. Dedicated people with the same mindset/identity will become “constantly united”. This group of believers being united before Pentecost and afterwards is a direct result of humbling themselves and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide them. Prayer gets our mind and heart in tune with God’s will. So when a group of believers who are dedicated to living out their identity in Christ humble themselves and seek the God of the Universe in prayer, their minds and hearts line up with God’s will for their lives. I read about the early church in the book of Acts, and their faith in Christ almost seems surreal to me. Is it even possible for a group of believers to be “constantly united in prayer”? Can today’s Christians be like the group of first Christians and be so united that they are of one heart and mind? … YES, we can. God does not change, but He calls us and guides us to change and transform into His likeness. When we as a body of believers realize that our identity is found in Christ alone and we dedicate our lives to living for the glory of God, the result will be we are “constantly united in prayer”. When we humble ourselves and seek the Lord, our hearts and our minds become a mirrored image of God’s will. Thank you so much for reading; I hope and pray you see my heart in this article. A few things we as a church body can devote ourselves to in prayer: 1. Students and the See You At The Pole event
See You At The Pole – Schools across the parish the morning of Wednesday, September 23rd
2. Our Church
See You At The Pole Rally – leaving @ 5:30 p.m.
Pray that Christian students make God’s glory known in their words, deeds and even thoughts.
Pray that our church continues to surrender to the Holy Spirit working in us, and we make God’s glory known.
3. India Mission Trip
God can and will work and move in the hearts of people in India, we just need to be of one heart and one mind so that we can see Him work and move through us. Pray for our team and pray for the people we will encounter.
As we transition from Summer to Fall, we always give special attention to the various ministries of our church, so let me give you all an update on our worship ministry. When you read this, our Sanctuary Choir will have begun rehearsing a new Christmas musical entitled, “Christmas in His Presence”, which we will present on December 13th. At first glance, the title seems a little redundant. How could you have Christmas without His Presence? The truth is, of course, that we too often do Christmas…and the other 364 days of the year…without much thought that God, the Creator of the Universe, is present. We have heard much in recent weeks about the person and work of the Holy Spirit, who is God present in and with every true disciple of Christ every moment of every day. All too often, however, we are not present to Him. May we consciously and intentionally seek to live every day fully aware of His Divine Presence, and, perhaps, this Christmas will find us rejoicing with fresh realization that God is with us! (By the way, now is an opportune time to join the choir!) Wednesday, September 9th, will be the date that Preschool Choir resumes. Christina Watts will be leading these young singers each Wednesday evening from 5:30 ‘til 6:00. Older children will have their opportunity to sing in worship during “Living Inside Out”, which continues to meet from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday. Part of the reason for this change from the usual schedule will be the advent of a new music group for children. As you may know, Mrs. Jerry Dick has a keen desire to start a children’s hand-chime choir. Looks like right now that this will be for older children, at least at the beginning. Sometime soon we will have another session with any interested older children to gauge their interest and abilities; we will then establish a regular meeting time, probably on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. Please watch the Bulletin for announcements in this regard. Parents, you may also speak with Mrs. Jerry for information and to have your questions answered.

Wednesday, September 9th Choirs Resume
Note: Since there will not be an older Children’s Choir meeting at 5:30 p.m., for those kids who participate in the Wednesday evening meal, Mrs. Kelly will have some informal activities for them after they finish eating, beginning around 5:30 p.m. on September 9th. Our Adult Handbell Choir will also resume rehearsals on Wednesday evening, September 9th, at 4:00 p.m.. Any adult who might be interested in ringing with this group should contact Mrs. Jerry. Having been involved with them for the past two years, I can assure you that there is no group that has more fun serving the Lord than these folks. So, if you are an adult who can read music, we invite you to check it out. Finally, if you have a favorite hymn or another worship song that you would like to be included in our Sunday services, please let me know. Some of you have offered suggestions in the past, and I appreciate your interest and involvement in our worship experience here at FBC. “…be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:18b - 20

God has great plans for them, and I am so blessed to see them blossom into children living for Christ! As we begin a new school year and have Promotion Sunday, I wanted also to take this time to remind our church family of how our ministries are divided. Preschool Ministry: This is both our nurseries and children up to Kindergarten. Our nurseries are divided into two groups, Bed Babies and Toddlers. Bed Babies are infants and pre-walkers. Once they are walking full time with confidence, they will transition over to our Toddler nursery. Children stay in the Toddler nursery until 36 months. At their third birthday, they transition out of the nursery. For safety purposes, our nurseries can only accommodate children ages 36 months and under. There are three Sunday Schools for children in the Preschool Department. All are determined by the grade of the child. Our PreK3 class is taught by Mrs. Leslie Varnado and is specifically for children that are too old for the nursery (have had their 3rd birthday), but have not yet begun a 4 year preschool program (LA-4 or the equivalent). Children in this class will auto-
Children's Church is lead by volunteer worship leaders and is held in Mrs. Cindy's Sunday School room during the 10:45 am service. It dismisses at a time designated in the bulletin. This service is specifically for children over the age of three up to Kindergarten. Parents walk their child to the Preschool Building or can meet the Children's Church Leader in the foyer of the Sanctuary. Under no circumstances should a child be sent to Children's Church on his/her own or with a minor, including siblings. Also, for safety reasons, older siblings are not allowed to stay during Children's Church. Occasionally, the Children's Church volunteer may have a youth assistant, but they are required to be in at least 9th grade. All of our adult workers, including paid workers and unpaid volunteers, have criminal background checks on file with the church. All paid workers receive CPR and AED training every two years. Once children complete Kindergarten, they promote to our Children's Department. These classes are divided by grade, and most are held upstairs in our Children's Department (above the Preschool Department). It is for children from 1st grade through 6th grade. On Wednesday nights, our 1st through 6th -grade children have activities upstairs in the Children's Department. It begins at 5:30 with a time of fellowship and team
building games, then transitions into a time of corporate worship and devotion and then breaks out into small groups, also determined by grade. During the 5:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. time, our preschoolers (ages 3 -Kindergarten), enjoy a time of music and creative movement with Mrs. Christina Watts downstairs in the Preschool Department. They join the 1st - 6th graders at 6 p.m. as we begin the time of corporate worship. At 7 p.m., children are dismissed from one of three places. Depending on the weather, we may be in our classrooms, on the playground, or in the Family Life Center. Each child will bring home a double sided turquoise Student Emergency Card. It is extremely important for these to be returned as soon as possible so we know any allergies your child may have and who handles picking your child up. NO CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED TO ANYONE NOT LISTED; NO EXCEPTIONS. Finally, I hope you will mark your calendars for the following special events: Sunday, September 6th: During both the 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services, children on roll who have just promoted to our Children's Department from the Preschool Department (currently in 1st grade) will be recognized during the morning worship services and be presented with a Bible to mark the occasion. It is not necessary to attend both services, but their names will be announced in each service. Saturday, September 26th from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.: Children in grades 2 through 6 will have the opportunity to come paint a fall picture with Mrs. Kristina Seal at our 3rd How Great Thou ART in the Family Life Center (gym). The cost will be $5, and lunch will be provided. A signup sheet is located on the FBC Kids bulletin board by the Coke machine. Please sign up by Sunday, September 20th. Sunday, November 22nd from 7 pm until 10 pm, fourth, fifth and sixth graders will have Dinner And A Movie night. We will be watching The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, eating pizza and playing games. Children are encouraged to invite a friend.
Saturday, December 12th: One Night In Bethlehem in Hammond. First through sixth graders and chaperones will leave at 3:30 p.m. to go to the walk thru, live Nativity. Because advance tickets are not available, we will likely have to wait in line for an unknown amount of time. The plan is to travel by bus and van (only 50 spots available) to Hammond, arriving at approximately 4:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. It is free to enter, but donations are accepted. We will eat in Hammond after the event. The children will need money to eat with and, if led, to make a donation. The signup sheet to ride the bus or van for this will be on the FBC Kids bulletin board in early October. Others may follow in their vehicles if they like or if the bus and van fill up. Finally, our Preschool Choirs and our Children's worship group will be sharing once a month (alternating) in the 6:00 p.m. evening worship service. Each time, they will be asked to wear blue jeans or capris (no shorts, please) with their blue or green Follower Children's Department T-shirt. We will meet for practice on the Sunday of the presentation at 5:30 p.m. Regular practices are on Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. for Preschoolers and at 6:00 p.m. for 1st through 6th graders. Tentative dates (subject to change due to holiday events) are as follows: Sunday, September 27th: Children's Worship Group (1st-6th graders) Sunday, October 18th: Preschool Choir (PK3-Kindergarten) Sunday, November 22th: Children's Worship Group Sunday, December 20th: Preschool Choir
We are so very excited about all of our new PlaySchool friends we are going to have this year and are hoping you, as a member of our church family, can join us in prayer for our new friends, their families, and our staff. Please include this list of names in your personal prayer time and lift each of them up to God, as He knows the needs of each one. We are so overwhelmingly blessed with such a large group, so please feel free to pray for just a few each day. Our new school year begins on Tuesday, September 8th, so especially remember us on those first two days!

This year I will be praying very specifically for these children to be raised up as a generation of leaders in our community who will possess the virtue of compassion on all that they meet, so that, in the years to come, they have the power to turn the hearts of those around them to Jesus Christ. Will you join me in that prayer?
Before I go, thank you again for the privilege of being on this adventure "Lord, please clothe my children with the virtue of of parenting in God's grace with compassion." Colossians 3:12 each of you. If there is ever anything I can do to help, support, or encourage, please let me know.
