Welcome Message We are pleased and excited to welcome you to the 17th annual Gala Dinner Extravaganza. Hopefully, you have already begun establishing relationships or reacquainting yourself with some of the industry’s most prominent decision makers. As you know or will soon learn, tonight’s audience is chocked full of our Member Lines’ CEO’s, presidents and cruise executives, and one of them will be your table host! Of course, all of them are here for you to forge or foster worthwhile business relationships, learn about the inner-workings or latest trends of the industry, collaborate with to cultivate ideas or just get your foot in the door. However, the lines’ professionals are not the only people in attendance here to learn from and network with; everyone present tonight has some involvement in and knowledge about the cruise industry. All ends of the spectrum are represented tonight, and their wealth of expertise and experience is part of the reason why these events are successful. We hope that you can actualize this crucial potential, and we thank you for your participation in this event. It is through your input that our events become fruitful and productive. We would also like to thank you on behalf of those in need throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, as all proceeds of this function will benefit them through the FCCA Foundation. And our utmost gratitude goes to our sponsors—Port Everglades and the Port of Miami. Without their gracious contributions, none of this would be possible. Fortunately, their magnanimity has allowed for much more to look forward to. So please prepare yourself for a delightful evening full of enjoyable and beneficial festivities.

THE PORT YOU CRUISE FROM SHOULD BE JUST AS ENTICING AS THE PORT YOU CRUISE TO.
Cruises should start the minute a passenger sets foot onboard. And, at the Port of Miami, they do. Just beyond the railing are the dramatic Miami skyline, our sparkling waters and tropical bay islands, and the glittering lights of South Beach. Which is why a record 4.33 million passengers traveled with us last year. Cruising from Miami adds yet another enticing port to your itinerary. At the Port of Miami, we believe the port you set sail from should be as enticing as the ports on your cruise itinerary. From the dramatic skyline of downtown Miami just across the causeway, to the crystal waters of Biscayne Bay, the Port of Miami delivers a tropical vacation experience like no other port in the world. The modern-day cruise industry began at the Port of Miami more than four decades ago, and, since that time, Miami has continued to build upon its enviable reputation as the finest cruise port anywhere. We are proud to be the homeport to the world’s

most distinguished lines - Azamara Club Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Norwegian Cruises, Oceania Cruises, and Royal Caribbean International. In 2010, the Port of Miami set yet another world record with more than 4.3 million passengers traveling through our cruise terminals. The Port of Miami is anticipating another exceptionally strong cruise season in 2011. With thirteen cruise lines homeporting 28 ships, the Port of Miami will continue to be the departure destination of choice for cruises to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Mexico, and many other exciting destinations. All of the Port of Miami’s passenger facilities are first-class, from well-groomed outdoor landscaping to gleaming floors and counters inside. Besides offering the best homeport anywhere, Miami-Dade County affords an ideal opportunity for our cruise passengers to conveniently extend their warm-weather vacations with land stays in the greater Miami area’s tropical tourist mecca, which offers a wide array of multicultural attractions, superb accommodations, world-class dining, endless shopping and fun-filled beaches, not to mention a great variety of cultural and sporting opportunities. The Port of Miami, set in one of the most beautiful locales in the world, has an unwavering commitment to the cruise industry. To continue its position as a worldclass facility, the Port of Miami is continuously preparing for the next generation of cruise vessels. An ambitious capital improvement program is currently underway. Already completed are our two ultra-modern cruise terminals - Passenger Terminals D and E. These terminals will meet their match in the near future. On our drawing board is the world’s largest multi-terminal facility which can potentially serve several cruise vessels simultaneously. A cruise starts the minute a passenger steps foot aboard ship. However, at the Port of Miami…the vacation begins the minute you cross our bridge…the dramatic Miami skyline…our crystal waters and tropical bay islands… and the glittering lights of South Beach. Cruising from Miami adds yet another enticing port to your itinerary. No wonder one of every seven cruise passengers in the world departs from Miami. Cruising and Miami will always-always- be synonymous.

Lauderdale, Florida, has grown to become one of the busiest cruise ports in the world with 14 cruise lines, 50 cruise ships, more than 2,000 different cruises, and over 3.8 million passengers expected this year. Our goal is simple: to be the best at what we do. So we’re constantly investing in improvements to meet the growing needs of the cruise industry and their guests. We provide modern, spacious and comfortable cruise terminals, and a dedicated customer service staff to work directly with cruise lines. After all, cruise vacationers eagerly await their cruise, so we see it as our job to make sure that any time spent in Port Everglades only enhances that experience. The world’s top cruise lines have discovered the many advantages of homeporting at Port Everglades. • A deep harbor • Direct highway access • Multiple port entrances • In the heart of a popular tourist destination • Our proximity to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and its low-cost carriers We asked our cruise guests to “bring it on.” As a result, our guests now enjoy new easy-to-read directional signs, wider roadways, faster taxi and limo service, more on-site parking, an informative new website, a cell phone waiting area for those picking up returning cruise guests, and, for some guests, a new mega cruise terminal. No wonder we’ve been recognized by major cruise magazines as one of the most convenient, friendly and efficient ports for discerning travelers. Just as exciting is the emergence of Greater Fort Lauderdale as a luxurious destination for pre- or post-cruise vacations. Cruise passengers sailing out of Port Everglades can now book a hotel room and plan their pre- and post-cruise vacation directly at www.porteverglades.net.

Holiday Gift Project
In the Caribbean and Latin America, Christmas is not heralded by a white cloud of fresh snowfall. Nor does Santa travel by sleigh to bear his gifts to the deserving children. Instead, Old St. Nick can be found onboard a ship of one of FCCA’s Member Lines, as Santa has been cruising to these destinations and delivering smiles and presents to thousands of children for the past 15 years. This year, close to 7,000 kids who would not have had any presents under their Christmas trees (or a Christmas tree, for that matter) in 33 destinations throughout the Caribbean and Latin America were able to share in the yuletide festivities and joy because of this project put together by the FCCA Foundation, FCCA Member Lines and the efforts of many throughout the destinations. Covadonga Gomez, director for the Hotels & Tourist Associations of Acapulco and one of those who assisted in organizing the event in their destination, shared an anecdote that displays the importance of this project: “I remember two (2) years ago, a 6-year-old child in his bed said to his mother when Santa gave him an action figure, ‘See, I told you he knew I was here.’ His mother later explained that due to his illness and costs of treatment, she had told her son that Santa would not be visiting him that year.”
Gala-Prog-2011.e$S_Gala Program 3/29/11 11:27 AM Page 23
As Ms. Gomez also said, “This was the best Christmas for many children and a great present for Acapulco. I am sure that these gifts made one of the most memorable days for many children and their families.” Indeed, the significance is pretty clear, and the hard work is rewarded through every smile. This is why all those who assist with this project are so impassioned and excited to do so every year. Even cruise passengers get swept up in the emotion. “One highlight this year was meeting a couple who were not crew on the ship but actual guests who learnt that this was happening and gave their time to come ashore just for participation in this activity,” told the permanent secretary of the Virgin Islands. Carla Sinton, youth director of Carnival Valor, also shared this fervor and actually was grateful to assist: “Thank you so much for letting us be part of this special day. We had a great time interacting with the children & seeing their big bright smiles. FCCA really is a wonderful organization doing amazing things for so many children. I’m so glad we got to be part of that today.” This enthusiasm was also experienced by Sharon Williams, cruise liaison officer, Jamaica Tourist Board: “On behalf of our destination, Jamaica, a huge thank you to the FCCA for your kind consideration to treat over 400 children in our ports. This gesture is very much appreciated. The Carnival Team, as usual was so very energetic, creative, and helpful. The day was filled with so much fun, frolic and excitement. It was just awesome. The little ones were so at home onboard with Santa and the crew, you could tell that they were definitely having fun.” It would be difficult to not share the joy of the children as they received gifts while knowing that they would not have had this privilege without this project. It is too easy for some of us to take a “normal” Christmas for granted, but these children and participants truly enjoyed and appreciated every moment and will cherish their gifts for time to come. This is exactly why the FCCA Foundation exists—to improve the lives of those less fortunate throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, primarily for children’s causes. Every smile is a reminder of this mandate and is more than worth the $3 million provided for causes and projects like these.

The FCCA Foundation Improving the Lives of Citizens in the Caribbean & Latin America
Foundation History The FCCA Foundation is a charity that is dedicated to helping the people of the Caribbean and Latin America. The Foundation answers the needs presented by the destinations for the betterment of the people of these region. Participation in events such as the Holiday Gift Project, Food Programs, Caribbean Special Olympics, and Hurricane Relief Projects have helped improve the lives of the people in the destinations over the last 17 years, with the FCCA Foundation raising and donating millions of dollars. In 2010, the Holiday Gift Project brought an onslaught of joy and gifts to over 7,000 underprivileged children throughout 33 destinations. Events such as the FCCA’s annual online auction facilitates most of the funding for projects to take place through the monies gained. The FCCA online auction offered a variety of cruise and land-based vacations donated from our Member Lines, private and public sector partners. The FCCA Foundation is possible because of the dedication of all involved. We are all yearning for a common goal, and we’re coming continually closer.

Environmental Poster Competition Each year, the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) invites students from the Caribbean and Latin America to participate in the annual FCCA Foundation Children’s Environmental Poster Competition. Students were asked to create a poster that visually depicted at least three ways they believed could help protect the environment and promote environmental awareness in their country. The competition’s purpose is to promote and stimulate environmental awareness among students and to effectively educate the younger generations on the importance of environmental protection. This year, 13 destinations throughout the Caribbean and Latin America participated. Each country submitted one poster in each age category to represent its finalists. One entry per category was selected as a winner for the best message that advocated the role each destination plays in preserving the environment. Winners included 12-year-old Kaela Smith of Conrinaldi Avenue Primary from Jamaica in the Junior Division (ages 12 and younger) and 15-year-old Kerri Bascom of Queen’s College from Bahamas in the Senior Division (ages 13-16). Kaela and Kerri will each receive an educational scholarship of US$3,000 and equal donations for their respective schools. Kaela Smith’s poster, “Stop! Think! Reduce your Carbon Footprint!” illustrates three ways in which we can protect our environment. More so, it displays ways of preserving our environment by means of recycling, organic farming, and reforestation. Kerri Bascom’s poster, “Pollution, Everyone’s Problem” illustrates the different ways in preserving our environment, as well as the dangers and consequences of polluting our earth. The poster depicts the many ways in which we can educate our youth and promote forms of saving our planet. The FCCA also congratulates the second- and third-place winners in each division. Secondplace finalists were 12-year-old Daniel Lashley from Barbados in the Junior Category and 14-year-old Sophia Taisha Boyer from Haiti in the Senior Category. Third-place winners were 12-year-old Ludivine Ramaroson from Martinique in the Junior Category and 15-year-old Brenden Gonsalves from Barbados in the Senior Category. Second-place winners in both categories will each receive US$1,500, and third place winners will receive US$1,000. The FCCA also awards the schools of the first-, second- and third-place winners in both categories the same amount received by their winning student. All finalists in each division will receive US$200 to reward their participation and good work.
