We are pleased and excited to welcome you to this milestone event, the 25th anniversary of the FCCA Cruise Conference & Trade Show. This marks a special time for the event—not only because it celebrates 25 years of growing from an idea and tight-knit gathering into the largest cruise conference and trade show in the Caribbean and Latin America, along with its first of four consecutive years in the enchanting Puerto Rico filled with special features and surprises to celebrate the occasion, but also and perhaps most importantly, because these developments document the industry’s commitment to doing business in the region. Part of this proof comes from making history with the event’s most-ever Member Line executives, more than 150 total, and the biggest congregation of chairmen, presidents and CEOs, who are all here the same reason you are: to develop understanding, relationships and, of course, business. This theme of partnership will take the show’s center stage throughout what you will experience over the next few days of meetings, workshops, meals, networking functions and even tours with this historic delegation of executives from numerous sectors, one of which can surely impact your business. And of course everyone here has some involvement in and knowledge of the cruise industry, representing most ends of its multifaceted spectrum, along with a wealth of expertise and experience crucial to the industry’s success. Partnership also forms the foundation of both this event and the FCCA’s mission, and we have found that sometimes that is as simple as bringing together both parties to share ideas, discuss trends and potential projects, cultivate invaluable relationships and have some old-fashioned fun in the process. That is why we offer numerous events throughout the year, ranging from exclusive Platinum receptions to open-registration and large-scale ones like this, which have paved a long track record of fostering the mutual understanding and bilateral partnerships that lead to sustainable success. So please prepare yourself to see this on display over the next few days while enjoying the enchanting Puerto Rico, festivities and local fare, and chances to improve your cruise tourism business.

Welcome Message
Welcome to our Puerto Rico! We are glad to be the home of the FCCA Cruise Conference and Trade Show for the next four years and honored to host industry stakeholders from government entities, tour operators and our cruise partners. By becoming long-term hosts of the industry’s leading event in the region, we cement our commitment to the business and celebrate significant growth of cruising for our Island, with 2018-2019 being a record-breaking year for our ports, expecting to welcome over 1.7 million passengers. The Caribbean remains the leading cruise destination in the world, setting the standard as cruising continues to expand at an exhilarating space. The industry’s expansion throughout the world challenges us to invest towards improving our product and innovating to please our customers. Our region offers something for all types and budgets, from family-friendly voyages to ultra-luxurious and exclusive specialty cruises. By continuing to work as a team, we will be able to maximize our region’s potential, pleasing and attracting more visitors as well as improving the quality of life and the general well-being of our local economies in each and every port of call. Puerto Rico is at the forefront of this innovation. With Governor Ricardo Rosselló committed to fostering continued growth of the industry and an enthusiastic private sector, the island is embracing cruising like never before, engaging in an unprecedented reconstruction effort bound to ensure our facilities and product offerings are best-in-class. This year’s event will be a magnificent showcase of Puerto Rico’s recovery, allowing us to successfully communicate our favorable business environment and new product offerings. The event certainly provides the perfect setting to share information on these opportunities and the establishment of new partnerships that will catalyze the cruise industry’s continued growth in our region. I look forward to greeting you and wish all delegates a productive and successful conference. Enjoy your stay and Discover Puerto Rico!

WORKSHOP 21
Pack your bags, and come on over. Discover Puerto Rico. With a wide variety of options combining the best of both urban and nature experiences and a full range of prices and features to match any individual traveler’s needs, now is the best time to travel to Puerto Rico. Even if you have visited before, Puerto Rico is a treasure trove that few can say they have explored in its entirety. From world-renowned relaxing beaches to high-adrenaline adventures, and with excellent cuisine, shopping and unique cultural offerings, the Island has something that appeals to every kind of person. Providing New Experiences to Global Consumers Accessibility to traditional media and the world wide web has given rise to a new type of traveler. But although media can give you a glimpse of what the world has to offer, virtual reality pales in comparison with the real experience. People travel to connect, live and immerse themselves in real experiences. And Puerto Rico has plenty of that to offer. The island is characterized by contrasts: from 22
white-sand beaches to one of the most accessible rainforests in the world; walking in a blue cobblestone street towards a 500-year old fortress while savoring the latest culinary fusion snack; zip-lining over mountain ranges or visiting state-of the-art museum exhibits. With a cultural heritage of four distinct cultures, an inimitable blend that combines to create our music, cuisine, art, language, and the warmth and hospitality that characterize Puerto Rican people, breathtaking scenery, an incredible diversity of activities, special events and festivals all year long and the convenience modern infrastructure, Puerto Rico provides visitors with memories to last a lifetime. What better way to really get into the rhythm of Puerto Rico’s daily life than through its music? Music is an important part of our island’s heritage, and it is one of our most important expressions. Our traditional Bomba, Plena and salsa music have served not only to entertain, but also to spread the news and as a social commentary on important
events of the day. Guests can learn about the African roots of Bomba dancing in Piñones or sign-up for a salsa class in Old San Juan. There is also the Puerto Rico Tourism Company’s endorsed Salsa Route tour, where participants will visit locations that inspired celebrated composers, the streets and resting places where renowned “salseros” spent their youth, and the home of collectors and present-day singers. Speaking of songs, “If you like piña colada…” One should not miss the opportunity to try this famous tropical drink at its birthplace. Try it without alcohol, but if one adds it to this heavenly concoction, make sure it is one of the local brands. Puerto Rican rums are considered among the best in the world and are aged to perfection in local distilleries around the island. Visitors can ferry across the bay or join a tour to one of the largest distilleries in the world and get to know more about the history of rum in Puerto Rico, learn how to achieve the perfect mix for your drink or acquire a better understanding of the nuances of rum alongside a master blender. Local beers are also worth a try. Puerto Rico is known for its varied cuisine. From high-end restaurants to rustic kiosks by the beach
and food trucks, foodies and connoisseurs alike will love local fare’s flavors and the warm camaraderie Puerto Ricans are known for. Order the fresh catch-of-the-day bass with a side of tostones (fried plantain), a seafood-stuffed mofongo served in a pilón (mortar) or empanadillas de jueyes (landcrab-stuffed turnovers) with mayoketchup dip while on shore. Try one of the culinary tours available that allow you to sample Puerto Rican cuisine while strolling through the city of Old San Juan, while others take you inland where you can enjoy amazing mountain views and local hospitality. Discover Puerto Rico These are exciting times for Puerto Rico, when the island is not just reimagining its tourism offering, but is also reinventing itself. Puerto Ricans are committed more than ever to welcoming visitors from all over the globe. As a world-class travel destination, we not only want to show, the beauty and diversity of landscapes, beaches, attractions, and adventure, but also the essence of our people – through our food, through our culture, through our dances. This is really the right time to visit Puerto Rico. So pack your bags, get on board and come visit our home. This is really the best time to travel to Puerto Rico and get inspired. 23

FCCA Essay Contest Winner “WHAT CULTURE ASPECT OF MY COUNTRY SHOULD CRUISE PASSENGERS EXPERIENCE?”” As we all know, tourism is a huge part of the flow of money into the Cayman Islands. There are lots of different aspects of our culture that draw more than one million tourists to our shores each year; but the most appealing thing about Cayman culture, which every tourist will surely experience is the warmth, friendliness and generosity of “Cayman Kind”. When we say Cayman Kind, we mean the spirit of Cayman and the uniqueness of our people.
Xara Mon Desir 10 years old, Cayman Prep & High School George Town, Cayman Islands
Cayman Kind is not a marketing strategy, or a false identity with which we try to lure visitors to our islands. It is our way of life. Visit the Cayman Islands and you will meet some of the most beautiful and spirited people in the world. During a short trip or a holiday, you will experience an outpouring of hospitality and inclusion from our people who exemplify what Cayman Kind really means.
While you walk through the bustling streets of George Town, smiling faces will greet you. You are sure to also meet one of our many local restaurateurs who will gladly tell you about his adventures at sea, while you savour authentic Caymanian cuisine. Turtle stew, conch stew, Cayman style beef, fish fritters and Johnny Cakes are just a few of the mouth-watering traditional dishes that will leave your pallets dripping. After this, you can hop onto a public transportation bus and start your journey to one of our many world-famous, white-sand beaches. You can visit Seven Mile Beach, Governor’s Beach, or head to Stingray City to snorkel and swim with the majestic stingrays. If you prefer, you could take the more scenic route to North Side and head up to Rum Point for the day. During your journey, a cheerful and knowledgeable bus driver will excitedly share with you his expertise on the many historical buildings that you will pass on the way.
If you are one of the luckier ones to visit Cayman when a festival like Batabano or Pirate’s Week is occurring, you will have the time of your life. Batabano is held in early May each year. Stilt-walkers, dancers and masqueraders all join together to create the most remarkable street parade. After the parade, visitors can sample food from the very best of Cayman’s chefs. If you are here during the second week of November, you can participate in Cayman’s magnificent celebration of Pirates Week. As you walk through the streets, huge floats and steel pan bands will show off their impeccable talents. Locals are always keen to lend a hand and guide you back to your ship. After a full day of masquerading, you will walk back to your cruise ship extremely satisfied and delighted that you could have experienced the gift of Cayman Kind. A gift you will surely never forget. Junior Division Finalists: 2nd Place – Leilene Amaya Muggins, U.S. Virgin Islands 3rd Place –Arjenel Browne, St. Kitts

FCCA Essay Contest Winner “WHAT CULTURE ASPECT OF MY COUNTRY SHOULD CRUISE PASSENGERS EXPERIENCE?” Barbados is most known for its picturesque beaches, warm atmosphere, and golden sand. However, our villages embody a wide variety of the island’s wonderful cultural heritage. Why not experience authentic Barbadian countryside villages for a few hours, and see how some of our traditional and cultural livelihoods have continued from back in the olden days. Ever tried roasting a delicious breadfruit? Or maybe even climbing a golden apple tree for some mouthwatering fruit? Do not think of a brief stay on this is island as another business trip, or sunny vacation, but as another interesting way to experience a new culture. Visiting our villages will give cruise passengers a cultural awakening where visitors are treated like family. In olden days, many villages were situated very close to sugar cane plantations which is where most persons worked in the past. While in our villages, a guided walking tour through some of the many patches of sugarcane fields will teach tourist about manual harvesting and the preparation of the sugar cane before it reached the table as sugar. The peeling and devouring of this tasty natural treat, is one of our old Barbadian fun activities. Kia Knight 13 years old, Deighton Griffith Secondary School St. Michael, Barbados
Visiting a Bajan village would not be complete without joining locals in a Bajan rum shop for a game of dominoes, some karaoke singing, dancing to local calypso music, and eating the most delectable foods. Visitors can try a refreshing rum punch, or have a tall glass of our traditional mauby, sorrel, and other refreshing homemade natural juices, like, soursop, golden apple, and ginger beer. A ham cutter to go with those beverages, or some freshly fried fish cakes, hot from the pan will light the taste buds on fire, or even some cou-cou and flying fish, our national dish. Some locals may even invite visitors into their home to enjoy a home cooked meal with their families. Our locals will surely not let visitors leave empty handed; great cake, sugar cakes, tamarind balls galore to take home, to share a piece of Barbadian culture with their friends and family.
