S T N E V E G N I T E E M R E T S U L NATIONAL C Adviser Networking Session What a chance! Get to talk with some of the FCCLA experts...you, the advisers! Use this opportunity to exceed in your FCCLA journey and hear from advisers, state advisers, and alumni in these mini presentations with great ideas, resources, and networking opportunities. Join the group of exceptional advisers with your own excellent ideas to share as well.

Adviser Professional Learning Sessions Advisers receive additional FCCLA and Family and Consumers Sciences training to help further their knowledge and careers. Professional development sessions are eligible for PDU and CEU credits.

Dance/Special Event (Additional fee) Dance the night away with your old and new FCCLA friends. Please note: it is the chapter advisers’ responsibility to chaperone their students during the dance. Advisers must register and pay for the dance if they have students attending. Although casual attire is acceptable for the dance, attendees must adhere to the mandatory meeting dress policy for the Closing General Session. Refer to page 11 for the mandatory meeting dress policy.

Exhibits and FCCLA Store Exhibitors provide members and advisers with information about career options, educational resources, fundraisers, and training opportunities available to them. Get FCCLA publications, emblematic gear, FCCLA polos, and supplies provided by Advertising, Premiums and Incentives (API). Be sure to check out the new National Programs Handbook.

Exhibitor and Partner Workshop Sessions These combined adviser and youth sessions will be presented by FCCLA exhibitors and partners. During these sessions, attendees will gain valuable information on a variety of topics from key FCCLA supporters.

Family and Consumer Sciences Knowledge Bowl

Registration for the Family and Consumer Sciences Knowledge Bowl is limited to the first 40 teams at each site and must be included when registering for a National Cluster Meeting. Family and Consumer Sciences Knowledge Bowl: Level I

(Participants only)

Team members will let their individual strengths shine during the written test level of the FACS Knowledge Bowl. All eligible and pre-registered teams will take part in hopes of advancing to Level II competition on Saturday.

Family and Consumer Sciences Knowledge Bowl: Level II (Open to spectators) FACS Knowledge Bowl teams who advance from Level I on Friday will compete head-to-head in live buzzer rounds. Whether you come to participate or just watch the action, everyone will have fun while testing and expanding their knowledge of Family and Consumer Sciences. Participants must arrive at 1:00 p.m.

Johnson & Wales Tour (Charlotte Only) On Friday afternoon, you and your students are invited to tour the beautiful uptown campus of Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte. Opened in 2004, JWU-Charlotte offers 4 year degree programs through their College of Business and Hospitality College and 2 year and 4 year degrees through the College of Culinary Arts. Every degree program focuses on experiential learning and is focused on preparing the student as a professional. JWU’s urban campus is easily accessible to the variety of business and entertainment options uptown. During your tour you will meet a currently enrolled student and learn more about options JWU students have for continuing their involvement with National Student Organizations like FCCLA in college.

Leadership Launch Pad Kick off your FCCLA National Cluster Meeting right with a variety of team building, communication and leadership development activities. Members and advisers will be challenged to break out of the box and lead with a variety of resources and ideas.

National Network Trainings (National Network Members only) Reunite with network members from the National Leadership Conference to learn about new opportunities, develop ideas for the rest of the year, and get resources for winter and spring responsibilities. Members from the following national networks are requested to attend: Competitive Events Network, Connection Network, Finance Network, Membership Network, Program Network, and State Presidents Network.

Newcomers Seminar (By appointment only) This seminar is designed for college students, new and potential FCCLA advisers. The seminar will focus on FCCLA chapter management, national programs, and resources available to you to maximize understanding and knowledge of your chapter projects and activities.

Skill Demonstration Events (Additional fee, pre-registration required) Record numbers of FCCLA members are taking part in FCCLA’s Competitive Events series – STAR Events, Contests, FACS Knowledge Bowl, and Skill Demonstration Events. FCCLA members have the opportunity to showcase their skills and leadership potential in Skill Demonstration Events and demonstrate college and career-ready skills in Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations. Participants may choose from one of nine events: Consumer or Culinary Math Challenge, Culinary Chicken Fabrication, Culinary Food Art, Culinary Knife Skills, FCCLA Creed Speaking & Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Speak Out for FCCLA, and Toys that Teach. Complete event guidelines and eligibility requirements can be found in the 2013-2014 Competitive Events Guide, available on the FCCLA national website. These events have limited participation and will be available on a firstcome, first-served basis. Culinary awards are sponsored by Johnson & Wales University.

Youth Networking Interact with members from across the country, explore creative ways to increase membership, add excitement to regular chapter meetings, host original fundraisers, organize Leadership Service in Action projects, and how to incorporate FCCLA into your school and community.

Youth Workshop Sessions These sessions will provide youth with professional and personal development and will tie together FCCLA national programs, providing new ideas for shaping your personal and career future.

Speakers Ashley Rhodes-Courter Three Little Words: Turning Pain into Power Ashley Rhodes-Courter spent almost ten years in foster care and had 14 different placements before being adopted at the age of twelve. During this time, she sought school as her sanctuary and thrived in the education system despite the horrors and abuses she was suffering. Today, Ashley is a 27 year old New York Times Bestselling Author and International Child Welfare Advocate. Her memoir, “Three Little Words” is being made into a feature film starring Reese Witherspoon. Using her story, Ashley celebrates adversity, diversity, and the power of one person. She encourages audiences to embrace their difference and turn their pain into power.

Johan Khalilian The crazy ones Johan believes that we all have a little bit of crazy in us that is waiting to be unleashed. His story is CRAZY, to say the least. He is a product of Humboldt Park Chicago, one of the roughest areas in Chicago. An area of Chicago, he was told, he would never get out of. An area where, he was told, he would never make it, never amount to anything, never succeed, never create, never inspire. Johan refused to believe the messages of his environment. Now he is spending his life encouraging today’s youth to be crazy enough to think that their lives can make a difference. While others use their voice to be “realistic”, Johan motivates young people to move past reality and begin to dream and create even the craziest of possibilities for their lives and the world around them.

n o i t a m r o f n General I Guidelines Attendees are expected to attend and participate in all sessions, workshops, and activities so they can gain as much as possible from the meeting. Students who disregard the rules will be subject to disciplinary action and may be sent home at their own expense. Parents/guardians will be notified. All meeting attendees should be informed of the following: } All students must be accompanied by an adult chaperone at a ratio of one (1) adult for every four (4) students. } Behavior at all times should be such that it reflects a positive, professional image of you, your school, your state, and the organization. } Any accidents, injuries, or illnesses should be reported to the adult chaperone or state adviser immediately. National staff should be informed of such incidents. } All students will observe the 11:30 p.m. in room curfew. } If a student is found responsible for stealing or vandalism, the student and his/her parents/ guardians will be expected to pay all damages. } Students may not purchase, possess, consume, or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs at any time. Violators will be subject to stringent disciplinary action. } Smoking is prohibited.

Meals Participants will be on their own for all meals. Visit the host state hospitality table for local restaurant suggestions.

Valued Possessions Attendees should leave all valuables at home. This includes jewelry, electronics, or any other item that would be considered a loss if misplaced or stolen. While FCCLA is not responsible for personal belongings, we will have a lost and found located at the FCCLA Registration Desk.

Adviser/Chaperone Responsibilities Advisers/chaperones are responsible for the behavior and discipline of their students throughout the meeting. Students causing disturbance or displaying inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the meeting and the hotel. } An adult must accompany and supervise all students at a ratio of one (1) adult for every four (4) students. Male chaperones should supervise male students. National headquarters will not provide supervision for students traveling alone. } There is a 11:30 p.m. in-room curfew for students each night. This curfew should be enforced by the advisers/chaperones and will be strictly enforced by the hotel security. This curfew is for the safety of the students and in respect for other guests staying at the hotel(s). } It is the chapter adviser’s responsibility to chaperone their students during the dance, special event, and tours, and they must pay the associated registration fee.

Continuing Education Credit

(Pre-registration required, additional fee)

Adults participating in the entire National Cluster Meeting may receive one (1) Continuing Education Unit (CEU). Check with your certification office or degree-granting institution before registering to determine if the CEU will apply toward your professional development program. Be sure to register for credit with your meeting registration and include the $20 fee. The CEU credit fee is nonrefundable and must be registered for in advance. Verification of attendance is required.

Professional Development Units Certificates of Professional Development Units (PDU) for individuals seeking continued certification through the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) will be available onsite. All participating individuals certified in Family and Consumer Sciences are responsible for complying with AAFCS requirements regarding annual reporting. Certificates of completion will be available at the registration desk.

Insurance for Meeting Delegates 2013 National Cluster Meeting attendees can purchase insurance through Commercial Travelers Mutual Insurance Company. Complete the Insurance Form located on the FCCLA national website.

y c i l o P s s e r D y r o t A d n a M The National Cluster Meetings are an excellent opportunity for members to convey to others the positive, professional image of FCCLA. Members’ behavior in the hotels and throughout the National Cluster Meeting is the only image others in the hotel and host city may ever have of our organization. Student conduct and dress should contribute to the positive, professional image of FCCLA. Today’s school attire is not always appropriate for the National Cluster Meetings and the hotel setting. Advisers are responsible for enforcing the mandatory dress policy. Attendees not adhering to the dress policy will not be admitted into any session. Guests attending the National Cluster Meetings must also follow to the mandatory dress policy. The FCCLA official blazer is always appropriate and strongly encouraged. It is important to note that FCCLA logo attire is not required. Mandatory attire for the National Cluster Meetings is described below:

COMPETITIVE EVENTS DRESS POLICY Skill Demonstration Events Participants: follow event specifications for dress. If attending meeting activities prior to or immediately after competition, be prepared to change into clothing that adheres to the meeting dress policy. FACS Knowledge Bowl Participants: follow the published dress code for all competition activities.

DANCE | Special Event DRESS POLICY Casual attire including denim, t-shirts, tennis shoes etc. is allowed. Please note that the mandatory meeting dress policy for the Opening and Closing General Sessions will be strictly enforced.

Registration is required to participate in all sessions and workshops at the National Cluster Meetings. Visit the FCCLA national website at www.fcclainc.org to access the online meeting registration system. Registration opens July 1 and closes October 25 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. The online meeting registration will feature real-time availability and immediate confirmation of registration. Registrations may be refused if meeting capacities are reached. You will not be able to register online after October 25. Competitive Events Registration Pre-registration is required, we are unable to accommodate on-site registrations for competitive events. Registration is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Competitive events participants must be registered to attend the National Cluster Meeting and those living more than 50 miles from the convention site must stay at one of the official conference hotels. Hotel reservations will be verified prior to the meeting. Competitive Events Registration Deadline } October 25

FACS Knowledge Bowl } $100 per team (5 member requirement) Contact FCCLA’s Competitive Events Manager to arrange event accommodations for any competitive events participant who has special needs. Registration Policy } If paying by check, full payment must be received within 10 business days of registration. } If paying by purchase order, full payment must be received by October 26. } Outstanding balances from previous national meetings must be paid for prior to registering for a 2013 National Cluster Meeting. } If you register for a National Cluster Meeting and do not cancel prior to the deadline or are a noshow, you will still be responsible for full balance due. You will not be able to register for future meetings until the balance has been paid. } Each person attending the meeting or any part of the meeting must be officially registered. Each registrant will receive a computer generated name badge that serves as an admission to all sessions and workshops. Name badges will only be issued to paid registrants. } Official registration badges must be worn to all meeting sessions. Badges will be checked at the entrance of meeting activities. } Wristbands are required for the dance and will be issued with registration materials. } Children under nine years of age are discouraged from attending sessions and other meeting activities. Confirmations and Invoices Confirmations will be sent via email. Invoices will be mailed to those who register by the regular registration deadline date. Please bring the confirmation and invoice to the meeting.

Cancellation and Refund Policy } All cancellation and name change requests must be submitted in writing via email directly to meetings@fcclainc.org by the cancellation deadlines. Telephone cancellations will not be accepted. } Name changes or substitutions must be submitted via email to meetings@fcclainc.org by the cancellation deadlines. There is a $5.00 charge for name changes or substitutions made after these dates. } Refunds are not honored for Continuing Education Credits, the dance, special events, or Competitive Events. } A 50% refund will be given for all other registration fees only if notification of cancellation is submitted via email directly to meetings@fcclainc.org by the cancellation deadlines. Requests for refunds will not be honored after the meeting cancellation deadlines. } Refunds for “No-Shows” will not be honored and the registrant will be responsible for all registration fees. Please note you will not be able to register for future national conferences/meetings until the balance has been paid. } All refunds will be processed following the Charlotte and Omaha meetings. } Cancellations made before the October 25 deadline will be granted a refund on tours, less a $25 administrative fee. n o i t a m r o f Housing In Housing Policy It is important that all meeting delegates use the official convention hotel. The Board of Directors has implemented the following policy: Delegates who live more than 50 miles from the convention site and do not stay in one of the official convention hotels will be assessed a meeting room fee of $25.00 per registration in order to register for the meeting. Competitive events participants living more than 50 miles from the convention site MUST STAY at one of the official conference hotels. The official 2013 National Cluster Meeting Convention hotels are listed on pages 7-9. Hotel reservations will be verified prior to the meetings.

Room Rates All registered meeting attendees are eligible to take advantage of the FCCLA negotiated meeting room rates as described on pages 7-9. Room rates and hotel availability are not guaranteed if received after the housing reservation deadline dates.

Making Hotel Reservations } Refer to individual Housing Forms, located on the FCCLA national website, for specific information on making reservations, where to send the form, and who checks payments should be payable to. } Checks for housing payments should not be mailed to FCCLA Headquarters or included with your meeting registration. } Purchase orders will not be accepted for deposits or final payment to the hotels. } All reservations must be secured by a check or major credit card. } Reservations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you do not receive confirmation within (7) days contact the housing bureau to confirm receipt. } Requests for rooms after the reservation deadlines cannot be guaranteed. } Changes in housing reservations should be made directly with the housing bureau after a confirmation has been issued. Requests for reservations changes should be sent in writing and confirmed prior to arrival.

Confirmations Reservations will be confirmed by the housing bureau within (7) days of receipt via e-mail. If confirmation has not been received within (7) days, please contact the housing bureau directly.

Final Hotel Payment } Checks sent for final payment should be made payable to and mailed directly to your confirmed hotel. } Checks for final payment must be received at your hotel at least 10 business days prior to arrival. } Purchase orders will not be accepted for deposits or final payments to the hotel. } If paying your final balance at the hotel with a credit card not in your possession the hotel may require you to complete a credit card authorization form prior to arrival. Check with your confirmed hotel in advance for specific requirements.

Cancellations Guaranteed hotel reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to arrival date or the hotel will bill you for the first night’s stay. To avoid a charge, please notify the hotel at least 72 hours prior to your arrival date.

Hotel Check-In } Make your travel plans with check-in times in mind. Most hotels follow a check-in time of 3:00 p.m. Check with the hotel about special arrangements if you must arrive before check-in time or after 6:00 p.m. } Advisers should check the group into the hotel at one time and secure room assignments and keys. Have a copy of the housing form, hotel confirmation, and valid picture identification with you. } Outside telephone service will be restricted in rooms not leaving a credit card for incidental charges. Pay movies and room service will be on a cash-only basis. } Due to the high demand for double-bedded rooms, in most cases, double-bedded rooms will be used only to house three or four guests. Rollaway beds may be requested for single bedded rooms with two occupants and will be based on hotel’s available inventory. Additional charges may be incurred.

Hotel Checkout } Advisers must check out the entire group. Hotel checkout is at 11:00 a.m. Failure to vacate the rooms by this time may result in a full rate being charged for that day. Advisers must assume financial responsibility for the room bill. } The hotel will provide one bill per room or one bill per group. Participants should not charge incidental expenses (phone calls, movies, room service, meals, etc.) to their room bills.
