Draíocht Children’s Art Festival
Féile an Phobail Youth Events for Halloween
Introduction
Greetings once again fellow earthly beings to Féile an Phobail’s Children’s Arts Festival, An Draíocht. Over the recent years we have had many adventures with ghostly tours of Conway Mill, to Celtic festivities in the Falls Park. The Falls Park features again this year, but with a slight twist. Once again we will have our traditional Lantern Procession, culminating in a magnificent Fireshow by Firepoise, one of Ireland’s leading fire specialists, as well as having guest appearances by the Chinese community, and performers from the Belfast Community Circus. In the park itself, we will have an ancient Scandinavian tent, called the Kungsörnen, this now spookily known as the “Teepee of Horror” (courtesy of the Belfast City Council) in which we will have workshops, music, story telling, and much more family fun. Throughout the week there will be events in schools, community centres, day care facilities, libraries, parks, shopping centres, forest parks, youth clubs, and, believe it or not a Mobile Cinema! There are loads to do right across West Belfast and praise must be given to different areas such as the Upper Springfield and the Colin, for making this Halloween probably one of the most exciting in many years. So make sure to join in with many of the events that are taking place (most of which are free unless otherwise stated) throughout the Halloween week. For many weeks beforehand we have young people from all over West Belfast making lanterns, and percussion instruments to join in with the Lantern Parades in the Falls Park and the Colin; we have pupils in the schools competing in the An Draíocht Awards, Féile’s Short Story Competition, as well as artists working tirelessly getting props and things ready for that week. A lot of work and effort is poured into these events, and many people don’t get properly acknowledged for their endeavours. To those people I would like to say a big thank you, without them many of these brilliant activities would not be possible. So enough of me, get reading the programme, and join in the events. I look forward to seeing some of you having a frightingly good time! Kevin Morrison Youth Arts Development Officer Féile an Phobail

Cinema North West is an ingenious machine - a truck that converts into a fully functioning 100 seated cinema! This is a unique opportunity not to miss, with a selection of great movies to choose from including… The Corpse Bride (Children) 5pm Set in a 19th century European village, this stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride, while his real bride, Victoria, waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colourful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in classic Tim Burton style. Price £1
