James Joyce Comes To Town Blackbox, Hill Street 1pm, Saturday, 28th November
On Saturday 27th November, 1909, James Joyce visited Belfast to look for premises in which to open a cinematograph (cinema), a flourishing enterprise in which he was then very much interested. What was the cultural and political life like in Belfast one hundred years ago and who were Mr Joyce’s friends and acquaintances at the time? Historian Dr Eamonn Phoenix sets the scene for a talk by Dr Jörg Rademacher (author of James Joyce. Ein Leben in sieben Stationen, and biographies on Oscar Wilde and Victor Hugo).
Jointly sponsored by Féile an Phobail and the ‘Belfast Telegraph’. Admission: free
