THE PROBLEM WITH ARCHITECTURE IS THAT IS HAS BECOME HOMOGENEOUS. CURRENT TRENDS OF EXTENSIVELY USED CONCRETE AND GLASS HAS SPARKED MANY PROBLEMS FOR SINGAPORE. A LACK OF CONCERN OVER SPATIAL EXPERIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS, AND SOCIAL IMPACT HAS LEFT A CRISIS OF GENTRIFICATION, HABITAT LOSS AND GLOBAL WARMING. TO ME, ARCHITECTURE CAN SOLVE THESE ISSUES BUT WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF DEVELOPERS, GOVERNMENT AND GENERAL PUBLIC, DESIGNERS WILL CONTINUE TO FUEL SOCIETY’S ADDICTION TO CONCRETE. THE LACK OF EDUCATION AND AWARENESS IS THE KEY. HENCE, MY ARCHITECTURE SERVES AS A POLITICAL PLATFORM TO CALL OUT THESE SOCIAL-ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. THIS PORTFOLIO COMPRISES MY CAMPAIGNS OF AWARENESS THROUGH A NEW APPROACH TO DESIGN: EMPATHETIC ARCHITECTURE 4

Social Ceramics and Solemnization Centre Focus: Future Family Dynamics
THE REGISTRY OF MARRIAGES AND MUSLIM MARRIAGES IN SINGAPORE WILL BE RECEIVING THE NEW POPULATION OF COUPLES IN A AGE OF CONTEMPORARY AND SOCIALLY DYNAMIC GENERATION. CONSIDERING THE SOCIO-POLITICAL SCAPE OF YOUTH ISSUES, THIS GENERATION IS EXPECTED TO HAVE A MORE EGALITARIAN ATTITUDES WHILE THE TRADITIONAL MINDSETS OF THE OLDER REMAIN.
2019
PROJECT KILN+ SEEKS TO PROVIDE A CONTEMPORARY SPATIAL SETTING TO FACILITATE NEW SOCIAL AND COMMUNICATION ISSUES AS TO MAINTAIN FAMILY AND COMMUNITY STRUCTURE THROUGH CERAMICS CRAFT PROGRAMS AND POP-UP EVENTS AND MARKETS. THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE SITE AND TREND MAKE CLAY CRAFTS A SUITABLE CHOICE OF ACTIVITY AND THE ART INSTILLED MUSEUMS ENHANCE THE WORK.
6
The Site which sits on the current ROMM’s plot is located in the museum planning area, surrounded by art schools and youth startup projects. The observable are of art and fashion businesses
The location in Fort Canning Park gives the opportunity to dwell within the the hidden Archaeological research aspects of Singapore which I took inspiration for building material and earth forms
Site situated at border of Fort Canning Park has to integrate the Park’s greenery and pathways seamlessly into site to give site context.
7
An informal programme run space called for non-traditional approaches to the design Based off the topographical lines, the structural adobe walls are weaved through the site and entangling the social jugs (circles) where important spaces are placed.
1st Storey
2nd Storey
The informal corners and curves allowed playful furniture planning and large activity plazas to occur on all floors. The furniture layout also then flows through the site as the walls do. The unqiue monumentalism creates a common topic for interaction and gathering.
3rd Storey
The curves and orientation allows maximum ventilation cooling, rainwater collection points through roofing and optimal daylight usage.

APERTURE
Interior Architecture for ROM(M) Focus: Facilitating cross-generational ethics
TO REFLECT A NEW, CONTEMPORARY GENERATION. POSTMODERNISM WAS USED AS A REFERENCE TO THE YOUTH’S STYLE OF IDOLIZING VINTAGE CULTURE BUT IN A MORE CONTEMPORARY TWIST.
2019
SIMILARLY TO PROJECT KILN+, THE DESIGN SEEKS TO MEDIATE CROSS-GENERATIONAL ISSUES AND ETHICS WITHIN AGE SUBCULTURES. BY PROVIDING A COMPLETELY UNIQUE SPACE WHERE INTERESTED YOUTHS CAN COME TO TAKE PHOTOS OR TAKE A BREAK AFTER STROLLING THROUGH THE PARK. IT GIVES OPPORTUNITIES FOR INFORMAL INTERACTION OR THROUGH PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS

CO-HABITAT Eco-resort @ Sungei Buloh Focus: Enhancing Wildlife
AS ONE OF THE FEW MANGROVES LEFT IN THE WORLD, PROJECT CO-HABITAT FOCUSES ON MANGROVE CONSERVATION AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN HOPES OF SPREADING THE IMPORTANCE OF SUNGEI BULOH AS A WILDLIFE PROTECTED SITE AND HOW CRUCIAL MANGROVE HABITATS ARE TO ITS VERY DIVERSE INHABITANTS.
2019
PROJECT CO-HABITAT AIMS TO USE THE LUXURY OF A RESORT TO ATTRACT INFLUENTIAL MEMBERS OF SOCIETY TO AID IN THIS MISSION. THE RESORT SERVES AS A NATURE OBSERVATORY AND WILDLIFE ENHANCEMENT AREA WHICH WILL LET GUEST FEEL AT HOME WITH THE EXISTING FAUNA.THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR INTERACTION ALLOWS FOR MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES AND FORMING RELATIONSHIPS WITH SINGAPORE’S LAST NATURAL MANGROVE BY BECOMING “ONE WITH NATURE”.
16
When presented a eco-sensitive site, the common response is to preserve the existing trees and vegetation. However this does not regard the future vegetation and spaces where new trees will grow. Rather than the usual “do not disturbâ€? approach, the project aims as to not preserve, but rather enhance the existing natural environment Expanding the pond creates a larger ecosystem of aquatic life to ourish and more space for the endangered mangrove to prosper.

Thatched roofs, plywood panels and coconut timber decking are easily sourced in malaysia. Coconut timber uses the wood as a by-product of coconut plantations as the resort’s decking and pathways . The arch shaped rooďŹ ng is self-supported by the rigid rafter which requires no concrete whatsoever in the rooms.
The resort caters not only to guests but provides new spaces for wildlife and native plants to thrive in harmony with humans. 19

OASIS HUB
Senior Activity Center @ Compassvale Focus: Mental Health
In a rapidly growing city, Singapore' s cityscape becomes hectic and overloaded with physical and emotional elements. For the clinically depressed elderly, going out can be emotionally overwhelming. Isolating themselves at home speeds up the ageing process.
2018
To counter this, the Oasis Hub seeks to provide a haven of refuge by separating off the surrounding city life Simplistic buildings and landscaping is both spiritually grounding and emphasise the concept of Oasis, a sanctuary of growth and life within an unrelenting desert. The landscape also acts as a divider between passive and active events. 21
Concept Diagrams Due to the user needs analysis, an easy-to-read layout and readily accessible at ground were the basis of the ground plan
Design Planning To establish a priority of user needs, the activity frequency and navigation ability was analysed. Those with the lowest combined scores were prioritised

Empowerment The Landscape also plays another role of giving ownership of the space to its users. The plants and pond animals can be easily maintained by the PAC members. A sign of growth would give them the satisfaction to know their inuence over the space.Once ownership of the space is established, the members would continue care for the space on their own.

ECO-VILLA
Residential Project @ Faber Park Focus: Energy-efficiency
2017
For this project, concepts of sustainability were experimented in various combinations to find reduced energy wastage and green living. Green roofing, solar energy, daylight dependability and rain gardens were tested to see how luxury living can also have a positive environmental impact.

ME-MOSA
Eco-lounge design project Focus: Personal space
2017
The “MEmosa” was designed as an urban eco-lounge personalised structure that could suit to everyone’s needs. The name originate from the word ‘mimosa’, the plant, due to how each cells open and closes like the leaf, and the ‘ME-’ in ‘MEmosa’ symbolizes the importance of the versatility that holds within the structure for the users to change however they intend it to be.
The architecture reflects the nature of fluidity that represents in the structure, and consist of two main components which are the cave that acts like a shelter, and the valley that acts like a seat. The design promotes a sense of place of social interaction and encourage staying. 28
Structure The lounge is constructed out of six cardboard pieces folded exactly the same. Joint at different angles, the structure does not have a single form but rather adjustable by hand to form various shapes. Origami concepts were used to reimagine what the cardboard peices could become without any leftover wastage from cutting.

MONDRIAN FOUNTAIN Playscape design project Focus: Principles of the Golden ratio
2018
Inspired by Piet Mondrian's Composition With Red Blue and Yellow, The waterscape invites interaction using water features such as a main splashing area, elevated pools and taps. With no activity, imagination. The possible but not limited to activities are splashing around, toy boats, rinsing under taps or simply watching a fallen leaf be carried from the top of the fountain to the bottom. 30
The widths and lengths of the fountain are based of the squares of the golden ratio while the direction of water is inspired by Fibonacci Spiral. The heights of each fountain were found by placing the grid of the spiral beside and matching the the different height ratios so the emphasis of proportioning were kept. Piet Mondrian also used the grids in his famous paintings, hence the basis of my playscape theme.
