The Ronco Record Vacuum 1976 Whether you are a casual listener, DJ, serious audiophile or collector there are always essential needed to clean and maintain vinyl records during 70’s Ronco fulfilled that need. “Yes, the Record Vacuum automatically vacuums away dust particles that distorts sound and that can damage your needle.”

Ronco Infomercials sales pitch today is still affects the general consumers, especially the audiophile collectors. Record Vacuum was a great invention that awakened consumers to take better care of their records with ease. It one of many products that are part of American pop culture that brought attention to other nostalgic gadgets during Disco era.

Did it really vacuumed? In years past, many would clean the records by using harsh chemical like alcohol. Shirt or cotton cloth to wipe away fingerprints and dust was another method used to get of particles that cause static electricity. The Record vacuum was simple in appearance and battery-operated (uses 4 D size batteries). Although the commercials never said those words; instead, the term cordless electric was used. It took the guess work out of the upkeep of records'.

Invention that help shape American Pop Culture.

Just insert any size record 33 , 45’s and 78’s in the slot and turn on switch. The fan inside would create a blast of air from a vent at the back of the machine. The instructions also mention the felt pads moisten with the anti-static solution, helps prevent the dust buildup by creating a moist condition that neutralizes static electricity. Sales Pitch such as “But wait there’s more! It’s so easy to use!, has echoed through TV infomercials history especially during the Disco Era during the mid-'70s, encouraged a generation that party and looked their best especially new wave of covering bald spots with product GLH Formula, Hair in a can.

House Nation Magazine Volume VII

copyright 2015

Let’s not forget Hair in Can!! GLH Formula, a can that sprayed hair on balding spots. It covers bald spots for men; solves hair thinning problems in women. I wonder how many TV personalities and DJ’s used this product. Not to mention, the legendary Buttoneer instantly repairs loose buttons to your polyester shirts or blouse; and the TrimComb Hair Groomer, quick trim or shave your legs before hitting the clubs.

Ronco Records Established in 1973 that sold budget -priced compilation albums. Ronco is also known as a record label, mostly issuing compilation albums created for TV advertising and licensed from the major record labels around early 70’s.

My favorite LP is Ronco Presents Pure Disco 1979; the tracks were: Keep On Dancin'; Contact; Shame; From East To West; Blame It On The Boogie; In The Bush; You Stepped Into My Life; Dance (Disco Heat); I Got My Mind Made Up; Every 1's A Winner; Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me; Hot Shot; Don't Hold Back; Baby Hold On; Sinner Man; Get Down. If you are going to get Ronco compilation LPs to add to your nostalgic vinyl collection; don’t forget to add Record Vacuum to your record vault. Today Ronco is still creating products for easy to use , currently Kitchen gadgets are their biggest seller. This holiday if your collector don’t forget Ronco Vacuum or Smokeless Ashtray, or the top 100 gadget of all time Ronco Shell Electric Egg Scrambler.

May 30th 2015, Deluxe Underground Network with DJ Master Dock produced an unforgettable event bringing together dancers and Tomkins square park attendees to openness and freedom to express openly and dance. He is extraordinary person with knowledge of music that can move any crowd especially in open area like Tompkins Square Park. Some call him a musical genius because his ability to adapt to the audience and at the same time dance with them behind the decks. He knows how to merged with fellow audience, from the benches of park occupants with some pop tunes and sneaks in some Jazz, Reggae, R&B, Hip Hop, and from Classics to House which remains embedded in his soul. With brilliant collaboration with his wife Yolanda, Deluxe Underground crew and performance of lovely LadyHolly singing R&B hits and Brain Polite of Afro Mosaic Soul, with his wonderful spoken word. I hope next year the New York City Parks Department opens more opportunities for Master Dock to continue to bring freedom, diversity to the circle of Tompkins Square Park.

BLAME IT ON THE MUSIC It was released in April 30th 2013 in Soulful House genre originally produced by Calvin Morgan, under CyberJamz records; Vocals written and performed by RescuePoetix™. "Blame it on the music” is a story about a dancer connection with music and the elements everything around it. Whether your holding up the wall tapping your feet, or in the middle of dance floor ready to swirl, jump, get down to the ground music connects us. It connects us socially and opens an unseen portal of spiritualty. One verse “My soul welcomes you” says it all. One of reasons why I decided to include this song was because I have seen firsthand seen how dancers react to the song.

Artwork: JorgeG Graphix

This song has good chemistry with Rescue’s gift in pinpointing the human spirit -dancing and Calvin Morgan making this track.

INTERVIEW WITH JOE COZZO

Jason

Joe Cozzo

As a native New Yorker can you tell me were some of inspirations in music growing up in New York came from? I would have to say the Sound Factory. Every Sat night was a ritual; the vibes that filled that place were just unreal, Pure Musical Journeys.

Jason

What inspired you to become a DJ and how did you get started?

Joe Cozzo

2009 I decided to jump behind the decks.

Jason Joe Cozzo

Who have you enjoyed working with in the music business? I had a good run with Rob Bello for 2 years as the duo Surface Freakz and lately have brought Anthony Nero on as partner with my label Electrified Mindz, we also launched Nerotica Records. It feels great working with Anthony Nero because we have a lot more in store for the future.

House Nation Magazine Volume VII

copyright 2015

Jason

Do you have any memorable moments in beginning of your career?

Joe Cozzo

The most memorable experience was at playing at Cienna in Queens, New York, the event was called “I Love House Music”. I spun with MojoK and DJ Kelee. It was packed to capacity. I must admit I was definitely nervous but once I felt the energy and vibes from the audience.

Jason

What projects you are most proud of?

Joe Cozzo

Well besides starting my own label Electrified Mindz back in 2012, I’m very proud of; “Get Up On Your Feet “. I produced it along with Anthony Nero released on Tommy Boy Records which has been crushing charts all over. “Get Up On Your Feet “ has been climbing charts in Beatport Top 100 House Releases, #1 Funky/Club Juno Chart, #41 Overall Juno Chart, #6 USA Club Chart and #13 USA Club Chart.

Back in 2012 my 3 year old son Alex was a drowning victim and nearly survived. He is now in stable condition but suffered severe brain damage and it has influence the theme to song “Road to Recovery” which was written about what lies ahead for my sons struggle s. Inaya stated this is the most meaningful song she has ever recorded. We have an official music video all set for the release and remixes from the Young Bad Twinz, Tony Puccio, ALUKAA and Alexander Technique. I spent about a year working on this one project and we are hoping to have it released later this year.

“I want this video to touch your heart; this song will touch anyone that is going through recovery. “ Joe Cozzo We have real good feelings with this project topping all Charts including the Billboards. The Official Music Video brings a tear to your eyes and was brilliantly directed by Kirk Gillion.

Jason

Beside the music what other careers would you like to explore?

~ My heart belongs to music. I am starting to venture into different aspects of music such as little jingles, currently working on releasing my first sound pack and also another a project with Anthony Nero for Team Yamaha 2016 Street Bike Video.

Sound engineering is more than a technical occupation that requires aptitude in working or building with audio equipment but to Craig Bernabeu aka Shorty, president of SBS Designs and SBS Slammer it’s a continual search for audio perfection. Later in his teens during the 80’s he eventually gravitated towards club scenes in New Jersey. He worked in Club Zanzibar as a sound Craig Bernabeu aka Shorty, technician. While working there he was amazed Owner President of SBS how sound could affect people on a grand scale, Craig Bernabeu aka Shorty works in the abstract either in a club or an outdoor event. This is taking sound and reproducing it in purest form. where he got the inspiration to start his own Sound is abstract because it can’t be seen, held company. He had a great desire to be in the or touched but when heard can be felt. Craig forefront in audio design. This gave him the wants to make sure you can enjoy it without opportunity to work with many Iconic distortions. personalities and venues around the world. One always hears Shorty saying “It’s about having the right equipment to work the space not the other way around.” It doesn't make sense to put a powerful system in a small space because sound will be bouncing all over the place. This is where distortion comes to play. Shorty has made available analog technology to an open forum so everybody can enjoy it, listening to the classics and today’s music with clarity, whether you are at home or at a venue. It started at a young age, being surrounded by audiophile family and friends. This is how his interest in sound was captured. He started installing audio systems in cars as a teenager, then, afterwards installing Hi Fi home audio equipment. This is what led him to have his own company in audio design. “We were always carrying manufacture demos of speakers, amps in and out the house almost every week.” —Craig Bernabeu

The Liberty Theater (located 233 West 41st, New York City) sound system was installed by SBS Slammer. Most venue sound systems are very loud to the point of hurting your ears. This place like acoustical heaven without hurting your ears. Drop by and hear what is true sound quality. With many conversations via telephone I can sense his passion for audio science. Conversing with Craig I can visualize him standing in the middle or around the area critiquing how to make a system sound better. He breathes it, lives’ it and builds it, always looking to reach the ultimate level of perfection.

Rich Chwastiak The WIG, DJ, Producer, Electro Percussionist, King Street Records

Kevin Hedge DJ, Writer, Producer, Blaze, Roots NYC, WBLS Radio Show

August 8th 2015 was a tremendous night of both excellent music and positive vibes! After diving into the discography of Kevin Hedge and Blaze during my current work at King Street Sounds in Manhattan, it was both a privilege and honor to share the decks with him at Black Flamingo. Kevin performed with an incredible amount of musicality and energy that was immediately consumed by the crowd. It is my hope we can work together more in the future and show the world of house music what New York has to offer!

Interview with Kevin Hedge

HNMD

What are your thoughts about it playing for a small venue like Black Flamingo?

Kevin Hedge

I've always felt blessed for the opportunity to get to do what I love for a living and to continue doing it. From Blaze, to ROOTS, to WBLS and everything before and in between the creator has seen fit to let me continue in this industry and playing at Black Flamingo is a part of that continued blessing. The size of the venue makes no difference to me, it’s about the energy and the people that come out to enjoy the music, that's what matters most and Black Flamingo brought together some great energy for that night.

House Nation Magazine Volume VII

HNMD

copyright 2015

How did you get hooked up to play at Black Flamingo with DJ/Producer Rich Chwastiak?

Kevin Hedge I met Rich Chwastiak about a year ago at Roots one night just hanging out and enjoying the music. I found his energy and enthusiasm towards the music and the scene genuine. I, Katerina Chronis and Rich all stayed in contact and after hearing his set at Cielo over the summer for a weekend party Rich told us about what he was working on for Black Flamingo and we were happy to be a part of his new event. HNMD

Would you play along with Rich Chwastiak again?

Kevin Hedge Rich was a perfect host and sharing the booth with him was a lot of fun, like I've said in the past and maintain, if the creator sees fit I would definitely join Rich again HNMD

How do you feel about playing in the DJ Booth that is on same level as the dance floors compare the booths that are built above the crowd? Kevin Hedge I like to read the crowd in front of me so as long as I can see the crowd I'm good. Black Flamingo's intimate setting and its booth location are ideal; I really felt the crowd’s energy on the floor which fuels me in the booth, the energy exchange made for a fun night for me HNMDDD Did you feel have a closer connection to the audience at Black Flamingo Kevin Hedge I don't mind if the booth is elevated or on the same level as the dance floor but what's always mattered to me is my ability to see the dance floors and the people on it. HNMD

How did it feel to play with total freedom for a diverse young crowd?

Kevin Hedge I've had the pleasure of playing Cielo for ROOTS going on 12 years and one of the biggest joys of that night for me is that I play to regulars but also a very diverse crowd so I always feel free to explore different music with the crowd and I do my best to bring that with me when I play somewhere else.

House Nation Magazine Volume VII

copyright 2015

HNMD

Are you still currently with West End Records and are there any particular new talents it’s showcasing?

Kevin Hedge

Mel Cheren was and will always be one of the greatest blessings the creator ever placed in my path and West End Records was an extension of that blessing. West End Records is where I really learned about an entirely different side of the industry and together we grew and explored music on a totally different level. The label reached great heights so a few years ago when approached by a major label to take it even further I passed the torch (so to speak) and now enjoy watching it sore and stay current.

HNMD

Tell us about your label Blaze, are there any favorite songs you are proud to present to the world of dance.

Kevin Hedge

What can I say about Blaze; it’s simply an extension of me and has allowed me the freedom to share my life's work with anyone and everyone who enjoys that work. There's really no way to pick a favorite as it’s not my choice to make, it’s in the listener’s hands not mine and I'm good with that. I'm compelled to create music the rest depends on people that are reading this and coming out to the parties and djing

HNMD

What do you like to do on your down time for yourself, how do you unwind with all that going on around you with complicated business in music industry?

Kevin Hedge

My downtime is spent with the greatest joy in my life, my son. I'm happy watching him experience the world for many firsts as he is a toddler and explores everything. I'm not even sure if I can call it down time as he has taken after me and loves to be up and about..... Especial at night!

You have worked with some many incredible talents do you have any particular artist you like to work with?

Kevin Hedge

I've had the joy and pleasure of working with some seriously incredible and talented people so there is really no way to pick one or another as they all shine as artists and individuals.

HNMD

Do you have any projects you would like to continue or launch?

Kevin Hedge

I'm always working and continue to create so all I can say is 2016 will be a busy year for me and my team.

HNMD

Is there anything you like to say to my blog readers of House Nation Magazine online?

Kevin Hedge

I would like to wish House Nation Magazine great success and say thank you for doing something to keep our music growing and connected to the masses. House Music and the people that love it like your blog readers are like no others, the creator has blessed us so it’s all of our responsibility to live this music we love so much. One of most unforgettable moments is meeting up with my favorite dance sisters. After 28 years we still feel the songs , laugh and dance. One thing for sure I make sure I save my vacation days for these special day and to recovery from night of good work out with my friends. Popping old moves can be good and bad, but it worth it. Just Remember to STRETCH! -Fella Rodriguez

After the Garage doors closed 28th year ago we continue to fellowship with music. Bexx Terry Fella

It was great as usual. You can feel the energy as we pulled up to the block. So many people trying to get in… there were no doubts in my being, I was getting in! From the moment I walk through the doors--I started dancing. I tried to say as many hellos before I got lost on the dance floor. More like smooched but smooched so good.. lol I know I didn’t get a chance to see everyone, and time has passed we tend to change but even if I didn’t see you or recognize you, I definitely felt the vibes….. Just dance! I was blinded by the Muzzzzaq…
