“I fought for my country. Now I’m bringing the fight to my HIV.” Reggie - Atlanta, GA Living with HIV since 1985.

As a military guy, I know how to follow orders. So when my doctor told me to start and stay in treatment, I listened. Now my treatment regimen is part of my life. That means I take my pills, I keep my medical appointments, I stay connected to support groups and I keep up with the latest education. Treatment works for me, and now I show other veterans who are HIV-positive how it can work for them.

TRIUMEQ is a once-a-day pill used to treat HIV-1. In some people, TRIUMEQ should not be used by itself. Take TRIUMEQ exactly as your healthcare provider tells you. APPROVED USES TRIUMEQ is a prescription HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus-type 1) medicine used alone or with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection in adults. HIV-1 is the virus that causes AIDS. TRIUMEQ is not for use by itself in people who have or have had resistance to abacavir, dolutegravir, or lamivudine. TRIUMEQ should not be used in children under the age of 18. TRIUMEQ does not cure HIV-1 or AIDS. You must keep taking HIV-1 medicines to control HIV-1 infection and decrease HIV-related illnesses.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION What is the most important information I should know about TRIUMEQ? TRIUMEQ can cause serious side effects, including: • Serious allergic reactions (hypersensitivity reaction) that can cause death have happened with TRIUMEQ and other abacavir-containing products. Your risk of this allergic reaction to abacavir is much higher if you have a gene variation called HLA-B*5701. Your healthcare provider can determine with a blood test if you have this gene variation. If you get symptoms from 2 or more of the following groups while taking TRIUMEQ, call your healthcare provider right away: 1. fever; 2. rash; 3. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain; 4. generally ill feeling, extreme tiredness, or achiness; 5. shortness of breath, cough, or sore throat. Your pharmacist will give you a Warning Card with a list of these symptoms. Carry this Warning Card with you at all times. If you stop taking TRIUMEQ because of an allergic reaction, never take TRIUMEQ or any other abacavir- or dolutegravir-containing medicines again. If you take TRIUMEQ or any other abacavir-containing medicine again after you have had an allergic reaction, within hours you may get lifethreatening symptoms that may include very low blood pressure or death. If you stop TRIUMEQ for any other reason, even for a few days, and you are not allergic to TRIUMEQ, talk with your healthcare provider before taking it again. Taking TRIUMEQ again can cause a serious allergic or life-threatening reaction, even if you never had an allergic reaction to it before. If your healthcare provider tells you that you can take TRIUMEQ again, start taking it when you are around medical help or people who can call a healthcare provider if you need one. • A buildup of acid in your blood (lactic acidosis). Lactic acidosis can happen in some people who take TRIUMEQ. This serious medical emergency can cause death. Call your healthcare provider right away if you feel very weak or tired; have unusual muscle pain; have trouble breathing; have stomach pain with nausea and vomiting; feel cold, especially in your arms and legs; feel dizzy/light-headed; or have a fast/irregular heartbeat. • Serious liver problems can happen in people who take TRIUMEQ. In some cases, these serious liver problems can lead to death. You may be more likely to get lactic acidosis or serious liver problems if you are female, very overweight (obese), or have been taking nucleoside analogue medicines for a long time. Call your healthcare provider right away if you get any of the following signs or symptoms: • yellow skin, or the white part of the eyes turns yellow (jaundice); dark urine; light-colored stools; loss of appetite for several days or longer; nausea; pain, aching, or tenderness on the right side of your stomach area • Worsening of hepatitis B virus in people who have HIV-1 infection. If you have HIV-1 and hepatitis B virus (HBV), your HBV may get worse (flare-up) if you stop taking TRIUMEQ. A “flare-up” is when your HBV suddenly returns in a worse way than before. Worsening liver disease can be serious and may lead to death. Do not stop taking TRIUMEQ without first talking to your healthcare provider, so he or she can monitor your health. • Resistant hepatitis B virus. If you have HIV-1 and hepatitis B, the hepatitis B virus can change (mutate) during your treatment with TRIUMEQ and become harder to treat (resistant). ©2016 ViiV Healthcare group of companies. All rights reserved. Printed in USA. 723601R0 August 2016

• Use with interferon and ribavirin-based regimens. If you’re taking TRIUMEQ and interferon, with or without ribavirin, tell your healthcare provider about any new symptoms. Worsening of liver disease that has caused death has happened in people infected with both HIV-1 and hepatitis C who were taking antiretroviral medicines and interferon. Who should not take TRIUMEQ? • Do not take TRIUMEQ if you: • have the HLA-B*5701 gene variation • are allergic to abacavir, dolutegravir, or any of the ingredients in TRIUMEQ • take dofetilide (Tikosyn®) • have liver or kidney problems What are other possible side effects of TRIUMEQ? • People with a history of hepatitis B or C virus may have an increased risk of developing new or worsening changes in certain liver tests during treatment with TRIUMEQ. Your healthcare provider may do tests to check your liver function before and during treatment with TRIUMEQ. • When you start taking HIV-1 medicines, your immune system may get stronger and begin to fight infections that have been hidden in your body for a long time. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you start having new symptoms after you start taking TRIUMEQ. • Changes in body fat can happen in people who take HIV-1 medicines. • Some HIV-1 medicines, including TRIUMEQ, may increase your risk of heart attack. The most common side effects of TRIUMEQ include: trouble sleeping, headache, tiredness These are not all the possible side effects of TRIUMEQ. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking TRIUMEQ? • Before you take TRIUMEQ, tell your healthcare provider if you: • have been tested and know whether or not you have a gene variation called HLA-B*5701 • have or have had liver problems, including hepatitis B or C infection; have kidney problems; have heart problems, smoke, or have diseases that increase your risk of heart disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes; drink alcohol or take medicines that contain alcohol • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if TRIUMEQ will harm your unborn baby • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Do not breastfeed if you take TRIUMEQ • You should not take TRIUMEQ if you also take: • abacavir (EPZICOM®, TRIZIVIR®, or ZIAGEN®) • lamivudine (COMBIVIR®, DutrebisTM, EPIVIR®, EPIVIR-HBV®, EPZICOM, or TRIZIVIR) • emtricitabine (Emtriva®, Atripla®, Complera®, Stribild®, or Truvada®) Important Safety Information continued on next page

Love

IS IN THE AIR BY DAVE PIKE

I

naya Day is spreading the love this summer with a celebratory cover of the massive seventies dance smash, “Love Is In The Air”. Produced by Joe Gauthreaux and DJ Grind, the new version is a joyous house track that is meant to lift hands, spirits and souls to the sky. “I’ve loved this song since I was a kid,” says the beloved gay dance floor singer. “I’ve performed it several times at shows and wanted to record it but never got around to it. Then one day, out of the blue, Joe Gauthreaux and DJ Grind called and asked if I wanted to remake the song with them. Coincidence? Maybe. But it was also confirmation that I should record the song, and so, we did.” Reading the morning newspapers and watching the nightly news, it may not always seem that love is winning, but the 16: June 16, 2017

ever-optimistic Day says that if we look around, we’ll see that it is. “More people are marrying interracially, more countries are becoming diverse; there are more large-scale celebrations and more acceptance. People are realizing that the little squabbles between different groups do not matter and that we simply need to come together and cover evil and fear with love so that we all survive.” Inaya Day became a force on dance floors in the late nineties with her hits “Keep Pushin’,” “Hold Your Head Up High,” and “Horny.” Then, in the early 2000s she released the Mike Cruz-produced dance anthems, “Movin’ Up”, “Can’t Stop Dancing”, “Lift It Up” and “U Spin Me”. She has kept the party going with a multitude of hits since then, including “Nasty Girl,” “Glamorous Life,” and last year’s “One Night In Heaven.”

by: Jeremy Helligar

She holds firm to the belief that club music should be happy and up lifting. “Negativity is all around us. I want my music to make people feel better”. In addition to her club career, Day has worked extensively as a session musician, appearing on tracks by Michael Jackson, Queen Latifah, Big Daddy Kane, and more. She has also written songs for Missy Elliott and appeared on Broadway as “Dorothy” in the revival of The Wiz. However, for the larger part of her career, her heart has belonged to the clubs. “For over twenty years, my fans have come to hear me sing,

supported my efforts, remembered songs that I’d forgotten I’d recorded, met with and greeted me, purchased my merchandise, sung along with me, and never made me feel like I was anything less than blessed. All I can say is that I am grateful and thank you.” Written by George Young and Harry Vanda, “Love Is In The Air” was originally released in 1977 by John Paul Young. It became a worldwide hit in 1978, peaking at No. 3 on the Australian charts and No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, the song peaked at No. 7 on the pop chart and spent two weeks at No. 1 on the adult contemporary chart. Day says it’s impossible to compare her version of “Love Is In the Air” with John Paul Young’s original, and not only because it’s a female versus male voice. “Our interpretation is simply different. No artist sees, hears, or interprets things exactly like another. It’s also a whole new feel using music and technology of this time and era.” The message, however, remains the same. “Love is always the message,” says Day. “Love other people just as you’d want to be loved. Love them through their differences and their troublesome ways. You never know what a

person is dealing with on the inside and just a simple smile can change someone’s day while an act of kindness can change someone’e entire life... even save it!” For additional information on Inaya Day and “Love Is In The Air,” visit http://www.inayaday. com and follow Inaya Day on Facebook @ InayaDayOfficialPage.

Roberto Gonzalez Delivers Flowers For Dad

What blooms are best for Dad this Father’s Day? Roberto Gonzalez: Dad will love any bloom he receives from his son, especially if he knows that they came from a spirit of love and appreciation. You can say a lot more with flowers then with words. Even a bouquet of simple flowers like daisies carry a significant message. Daisies are a symbol of love and fertility. What flower is best suited for a father who exudes patience and perseverance? Roberto Gonzalez: I like chamomile for patience and magnolia for perseverance and a bouquet with the two would be a beautiful gift for Dad. How can we make the bouquet extra special? Roberto Gonzalez: My team went all out this year, crafting a spectacular collection of blooming tropical plants and bouquets to celebrate Father’s Day. I’ll post it on our website so that it might hopefully inspire readers with some fresh, new ideas for Dad. Visit https://www.robertjamesevents.com.

Roberto Gonzalez was the go-to floral designer at Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios for four years, before starting his own company, Robert James Events, where he has designed for the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Barbara Walters, Shania Twain, & President Obama.

Think only Moms enjoy receiving beautiful flowers? Beyond their gorgeous aesthetic and sentiment, flowers are a powerful gift and each individual bloom has its own rich history and deeper meaning. With Father’s Day right around the corner, we turned to celebrity florist Roberto Gonzales for his thoughts on the best flowers to include in your bouquets. Ties and Tools are the traditional Father’s Day Gifts. Why should we consider flowers this year? Roberto Gonzalez: When I give gifts, I want to bring joy to my special someone and see that genuine smile. I also want the gift to be consumable or biodegradable because goodness knows, we’ve all got enough stuff and not enough beautiful memories.

Are flowers an appropriate gift for sons to give their fathers? Roberto Gonzalez: Too many people dismiss flowers as feminine when nothing can be further from the truth. Great statesmen, poets and soldiers heading into battle have worn flowers. The victors of our greatest athletic events are congratulated with arm bouquets of flowers and on days or remembrance, we honor the fallen with poppies and other flowers. Flowers are a form of expression and can certainly represent strength and masculinity. Even roses? Roberto Gonzalez: Certainly! The red rose represents true love and in this day and age, can we agree that we truly love our fathers?

“As a kid, finding beauty in an impoverished Venezuelan community was not easy,” remembers Roberto. “I knew from an early age that I could use my creative energy to escape some of the daily challenges my family faced. He would visit his neighbor’s small floral shop as often as possible. “Initially, I went because it was the only place in the area that had air conditioning.” Roberto left Venezuela for the USA, obtaining his accreditation in floral design at the American Institute of Floral Design. . Oprah’s stamp of approval would lead to more celebrity clients. “Designing the floral pieces for President Obama’s birthday was probably the highlight of my career,” he says. Despite his wild success in the states, his heart remains in Venezuela and he is particularly devastated by its current state. Venezuela is experiencing the worst economic crisis in its history, with an inflation rate of over 400 percent and a volatile exchange rate. “People are dying. They can’t find food or medication,” he explains. “I pray for them everyday.” To learn more, follow Roberto on Twitter @robertoFlorist

We're Pregnant! By Declan Lawson Trystan Reese’s trimmed black beard frames his beaming smile as he rubs his protruding belly & listens to his partner, Biff Chaplow, say, “Love & sex has a lot less to do with body parts than we think it does.” But Reese isn’t rubbing a beer belly ― he’s transgender and eight months pregnant with the couple’s first child. The couple, who experienced a miscarriage in 2016 could not be happier. The couple’s family will be growing once again with the arrival of the new baby. Reese, 34, and Chaplow, 31, are currently raising Chaplow’s niece and nephew, whom they adopted from an unstable and abusive home. Since the announcement of the pregnancy, the two have been making headlines, with many people in awe and shock of their journey and story. But Reese himself will tell you this isn’t a rare occurrence. There are many transgender men like who have given birth ― they just aren’t in the news. They proudly defy all gender, relationship and societal norms... and it’s beautiful. I recently sat down with them to discuss the pregnancy, and

gender. How did you realize you wanted to become pregnant? Trystan: For as long as there have been transgender men, there has been a rejection of all things that could possibly be construed as feminine or female. I went through that through most of my 20’s. Then I hit a point where I wanted to find more of a balance and more of an acceptance in the fact that I am trans. I’m able to have a baby with this person that I love. I get to grow my family in a much more straightforward way than adoption, which we’ve done already. We know it is very stressful, but we wouldn’t change that for the world. We just happen to have all the parts that we need to do that between the two of us. I wanted to have the experience. I think it is neat I get to be a man and carry a baby. What’s it like presenting as male but having a “baby bump”? Trystan: The interesting thing is that men’s bodies aren’t subjected to the same kind of scrutiny that women’s bodies are. When women are in public spaces, everyone feels like they have the right to notice, judge or even say something about a woman’s body. People don’t care how men look. I’ve really been able to sneak by without anybody noticing. I think they thought I had a beer belly for a while. I covered up but I’ve now hit that point that it’s pretty obvious either something is profoundly wrong with me health wise or there’s a baby in there.

“People don’t care how men look. I’ve really been able to sneak by without anybody noticing. I think they thought I had a beer belly for a while.”

Because you have been public with this pregnancy, how have people responded?

Trystan: The good things are being able to hear from parents of trans youth who have been really worried about their kids never being able to have their own children. For them to know that the door isn’t shut when they transition, that’s been really heart-warming. Certainly for me, when I came out as trans, I never thought I’d have a partner or a family. Being able to continue to destroy that myth about what is possible for trans people, that’s been really exciting. We get some negative comments but… Biff: …wait don’t talk about the negative yet. We get messages from straight women, a lot of straight women saying, “Oh my god, it’s so wonderful to read about this. It’s so lovely to hear a focus on family and love, etc.” There are messages from other queer people saying wonderful things. The majority of our inbox is full of positive people, giving us feedback...and then there’s the negative [both laugh]. Trystan: The negative falls into the dumb and hilarious category. Then the heinous, I

wish I hadn’t seen that category. There was this one, some gay dude messaged me and said “Girl, stop stealing our men.” And I’m like, “I’m not the reason you can’t get a date.” Then there are the vile comments ― what they think should happen to us, our family and our baby. I’ve had to distance myself from that. Biff: This story has been shared all over the world. We’ve been reached out to everywhere from Greece to Argentine, Nigeria, Uganda… A lot of those countries are really transphobic or homophobic. It’s understandable to see those comments. Trystan: Remember, homosexuality is a crime punishable by death in a few countries still around the world. When you happen to stumble into an international audience, you will get a taste of what everyday life is like for gay and trans people there. Trystan, the confidence you

about bodies that are different than theirs. They are interested in trying something new or just straight up like you and how confident you are and are going to be willing to go there with you. I think that’s what happened with Biff and I. He had never even seen a naked female body ever before the first time we were intimate. But he was willing to figure it out because he was into me. The third is get as much as you can to a place of peace and comfort with your body so that when you are able to be with someone, they don’t feel like they are navigating a minefield of triggers. I think that was Biff’s biggest fear. That he would do or say the wrong thing, I would freak out and he would feel terrible at having hurt me. Whether that’s through transition or through self acceptance and self love, whatever it is, find it so they have a good experience and want to hopefully keep hanging out with you. I met Biff after nine years of being with idiots. We’re now seeing data showing transmen are willing to do really stupid things for gay men to accept them, often at the expense of our own health and wellness. I definitely made some of those mistakes, especially with being with people who were mean. Because I was just grateful they would be with me at all. What advice would you tell a fellow transgender man who is thinking about carrying his own child?

have about your body is refreshing and different from the narrative that many trans people face about their bodies. Do you get dysphoric at all ― especially with now that you’re pregnant? Trystan: There’s a million ways to be a man. Similarly, a lot of ways to be a trans man. Sometimes that means some trans men might not want to carry a baby. There are a lot of women that don’t want to carry babies either. For me, I got excited about the science behind pregnancy. It doesn’t feel as tied to femininity. It feels more tied to here this thing that my body can do and this amazing experience that I can have. For the first 10 years of my transition, I felt profoundly disappointed in my body especially with being gay. I felt a lot of pressure from gay men who were not trans to look, act and be a certain way. I tried hard to do that. When I met Biff was the first time I realized I don’t have to be like that. I just came to a point where I’m like listen, I’m trans. I can’t be any different than what I am. I had been told that after 10 years of taking hormones, one should have their uterus removed due to health risks. But you’ve been on testosterone for 12 years

Trystan: Hmmm…you know, I don’t know how universal or individual my experiences have been. I mean the same thing I would tell anybody hoping to conceive is and are now pregnant. Have you heard to make sure that you have all your support systems anything or been told any health risks? in place. If you have a partner or partners, make sure Trystan: I’m not sure where that medical that that is 100 percent solid because that is going to be a tough experience. Be sure you are committed to recommendation came from but the have and raise and care for a child and that you have latest medical data that we have does good healthcare in place ahead of time. Make sure that not suggest prolonged use, even post you don’t have to worry about advocating for yourself 10 years, can cause negative side because that can feel really upsetting and stressful. effects on the uterus. My guess is that Make sure that you get support because if you are going comes from correlation or anecdotal to have some dysphoria, if you are going to struggle data. So, yes as you get older, you are with advocacy and being misgendered by medical more likely to have issues with your professionals, you will need that support system reproductive hormones. there. There are lots of underground networks that are designed for just this purpose. But, the truth is, there is so little actual research done on us that a lot of what we do is us trying to figure it out. We’ve Biff, do you have any advice for partners? talked to a lot of doctors trying to Biff: I think that there is a second level of understanding conceive to see if this was something you need to have about what your partner is going that would be a smart safe medical through and not just going through a pregnancy. There decision, and they said we would be have been a few triggering things that happen to fine. Trystan that have caught me off guard. So there have been times where Trystan has been like I need you to Trystan, do you have any advice to a trans gay man who is trying to date a cis handle this. In the beginning, he had me do things like check into appointments and take more of role there gay man? until he felt more comfortable. Trystan: Be honest and upfront about being transgender as early as possible. To follow more about Biff and Trystan’s story, go to www.biffandi.com/our-story Use language that a gay dude would understand. The second would be to treat being trans as an asset not a liability. BOOK REVIEW:

“THE ADA DECADES” Tick. Tick. Tick. Your grandmother used to warn you not to wish your life away. The years pass quickly enough, she said, so hold each minute. Savor what you have. Enjoy your days, months, years, and “The Ada Decades” by Paula Martinac. Ada’s daddy needed help around the house. Once, that was Clay, Jr.’s job but he was busy with high school things, so twelve-year-old Ada fetched Daddy’s tools - which was what she was doing when she found an envelope with naked-lady pictures and a postcard of black men hanging from a tree. She took those pictures from the toolbox, even though she knew she shouldn’t, and she approached the only person she could trust: her school’s librarian, who explained how things were before the War. Ten years later, things were still that way. It was 1957 and, as Central Charlotte Junior High’s new librarian, Ada watched, paralyzed, while police escorted the school’s first black student down the halls. Ada embraced integration, but she hadn’t known what to do. She wished she’d had the self-confidence of the English teacher, Cam Lively, who’d welcomed the frightened girl with a smile. Ada understood fear, that was true. She’d always known she was different, but women weren’t supposed to be that way about other women. She didn’t know exactly how to say what she felt, but she knew it was wrong – that is, until Miss Lively invited Ada to a “book club” that was really just a gathering for gay men and lesbians. There, Ada found friends, a tribe, and someone to love. But Ada was from the wrong side of the tracks, her parents were poor, and she felt it. Cam came from money, and neither woman’s family approved of the relationship. The pressures they felt in 1962 – the need to hide and keep quiet - were almost unendurable; indeed, some friends couldn’t take it anymore. How much easier their lives would be if they could just be 30: June 16, 2017

themselves! Readers may notice the word “romantic” on the cover of “The Ada Decades,” but that’s one of the lesser aspects of this novel. Yes, there’s a bit of a love story here, but it’s more fictionalized history than anything. Beginning with a young girl’s early understanding of racial discrimination, author Paula Martinac tells a multi-layered tale from the perspective of an often-humorless, rather prudish, and complicated character. Spanning nearly seventy years, the story is appealing, surprisingly chaste, and based within accurately-told historical events - but there’s no Forrest Gump here: for Ada and Cam, the outside world is there for commentary, but not always for participation. Instead, Martinac’s characters are everyday women, living pleasantly normal lives, and their story ends in a satisfyingly quiet way. The cover of this book is no grabber and that’s too bad because the story itself is, starting on its first page. If you’re in the mood for a nice, gentle surprise of a tale that lacks drama and graphic scenes, “The Ada Decades” will tick all the boxes. By: Always Overbooked... Gay News At A Glance

Nike just released their new BeTrue collection, just in time for Pride season. Since 2012, Nike has released a special collection as a nod to the LGBT community. Robert Goman, LBGT Network Leader at Nike said: ‘The key for us was to create something that people could unite around to show their support for LGBTQ athletes. ‘Sporting your rainbow in the gym or on a run became a way to feel like you belonged to something larger – you were

connected to being “out” or being an ally. ‘The rainbow has and always will be incorporated into the BETRUE product in some way,’ he said. The collection also showcases clothes, including tank tops with a rainbow unicorn, the classic Equality t-shirt and rainbow socks. This year, shoe designs feature the first eight-color HD rainbow Swoosh design. Nike also incorporates the triangle in some designs, to commemorate the pink triangles gay men had to wear in Nazi concentration camps.

NIKE’S NEW #BETRUE COLLECTION LAUNCHES FOR PRIDE SEASON

having eight colors, hot pink and turquoise being removed due to the lack of availability of those dyes, the now-famous flag consists of six colors. Red to represent life, orange to represent healing, yellow to represent sunlight, green to represent nature, indigo to represent harmony, and violet to represent spirit. But Philadelphia is looking to make the flag have eight colorful stripes again – this

time with the addition of black and brown. The city’s new campaign, #More Color, More Pride, looks to be more inclusive of LGBTI individuals of color who are often left out of mainstream LGBTI discussion. ‘To fuel this important conversation, we’ve expanded the colors of the flag to include black and brown. It may seem like a small step. But together we can make big strides toward a truly inclusive community,’ the campaign’s website reads. ‘The black and brown stripes are an inclusionary way to highlight black and brown LGBTQIA members within our community,’ one unnamed source said. ‘With all of the black and brown activism that’s worked to address racism in the Gayborhood over the past year, I think the new flag is a great step for the city to show the world that they’re working

toward fully supporting all members of our community.’ This decision comes about six months after the Philadelphia Commission of Human Relations (PCHR) mandated gay bars, clubs, and nonprofits require their employees to complete racial sensitivity training after numerous complaints of race discrimination. For Amber Hikes, Philadelphia’s director of LGBT affairs, this new version of the flag means a lot. ‘Seeing an image like this flag instills so much pride in me as a queer black woman,’ she said. ‘When I see the flag, I feel like I see myself.’ ‘The new design is a symbolic representation of Philadelphia’s commitment to centering the experiences, contributions, activism and dedication of black and brown members of our community,’ Hikes stated. ‘To me, this flag says: “We see you. We honor you.”’

MCDONALDS MAKES RAINBOW FRY BOXES...AND THIS EVANGELIST IS FURIOUS

‘The rainbow fry boxes are a fun way to show our support of the LGBTQ community,’ said Cathy Martin, McDonald’s PRIDE Network. ‘We are proud to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ community, including our employees, customers and beyond, each and every day.’ However, one person unimpressed by the move is Joshua Feuerstein, who called on his 2 million Facebook followers to boycott the brand. ‘Disgusting!’ he ranted on Facebook. ‘Im tired of corporations trying to influence our families like this. SHARE THIS and let people know to STOP EATING at McDonalds! Plus, their food is crap. Really.’ Many of the 20,000 comments his post prompted were critical of his stance.

citizenship, family diversity, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity & expression.’ While older laws allowed parents to control a child’s education & religious upbringing, the new Act amends that right. It states parents are only allowed to ‘direct the child’s education & upbringing, in accordance with the child’s community & cultural identity.’ ‘It is abuse when a child identifies one way and a caregiver is saying no, you need to do this differently,’ says Michael Coteau, Author of the Bill. ‘If it’s abuse, and if it’s within the definition, a child can be removed from that environment and placed into protection where the abuse stops.’

Joshua Feuerstein, the Christian evangelist that led a boycott of Starbucks when it dropped Christmas-associated imagery from its festive red cups, is on another mission. This time he has McDonalds in his sights after the fast food restaurant chain announced it was producing rainbow packing for its fries. The pride packaging is available at just three outlets in Washington DC to tie in with Capital Pride. McDonalds is sponsoring the event, and will also have a float in the parade on 10 June.

Ontario, Canada recently passed the Youth & Families Act. This new law gives the right to the government to take children away from families that don’t support their gender identity. Replacing old laws, this Act requires all children’s services and judges to consider a child’s ‘race, place of origin, color, ethnic origin,

CHEALSEA MANNING IS THANKFUL

Whistleblower Chelsea Manning couldn’t hold back the tears in her first TV interview since her release from a military prison last month. She grew emotional when asked by ABC News what she would say to President Barack Obama if she were face to face with him. ‘Thank you,’ she said through tears, ‘I was given a chance, that’s all I wanted. That’s all I asked for, was a chance, that’s it. “ As one of his last acts in office, Obama commuted Manning’s 35year sentence to seven years total confinement in January 2017. In 2009, Manning was assigned

to an Army unit in Iraq as an intelligence analyst. She had access to classified information and leaked some of the information she had access to WikiLeaks. She was charged with espionage and 21 other offenses, including stealing government property and a number of disobedience charges. Manning publicly came out as a trans woman on 22 August 2013, the day after she was sentenced to prison by court-martial. ‘I had to be who I am,’ she says. ‘(Hormone treatments) literally (are) what keeps me alive. It keeps me from feeling like I’m in the wrong body. I used to get these horrible feelings, like I just wanted to rip my body apart.’ FENUXE.COM : 39
