MOVEMBER MO VEMBER MUSTA MUSTACHE STYLE by Dustin Shrader

It is time to shave the date, for Movember is finally here! Normally, turkey month is solely devoted to stache styles in honor of charitable endeavors surrounding male cancer awareness. Yet, as 2014 begins to wrap up, it has become oddly evident that this year has been the look of the hipster. Specifically, the look of the mustache. From Brad Pitt to Justin Bieber’s feeble attempt, it has become the new Hollywood accessory. Everyone is sporting one variation or another. Interested in taking part in all the hairy madness but not sure which type of stash will lure the local cutie you have your eye on? Don’t fret gents! Take a gander at these styles. The possibilities are endless!

The Artiste

The Trucker

Always dreamed of living in Paris? Well, take a dip in the French pond with this artist inspired Mo classic. It is sleek. It is sophisticated. It is precise. It is magnifique.

The Rock Star

Music legends for eons have perfected this one guys. Look to Jared Leto for a modern day reference. Maybe grow out those locks, get that sexy Jesus look going and start head banging.

The After-Eight

Ah, my favorite, one that I personally rock all year round. It is very Italian and very masculine without being overbearing. It is sublimely right to give your guy a tickle during a nice makeout session.

The Zorro Think Antonio Banderas. Think, “I’m a total badass.” If you are up for an iconic risk then this one is for you. Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean lips can’t be tickled with this debonair fair.

14: November 6,2014

Hulk Hogan inspired, leather daddy desired. The trucker is ideal for the ambitious fellow. Throw on some plaid, Levi’s, pair of boots and prepare to get rugged.

The Porn Star

Yes. We all know this one. Classic 70’s au naturel porn star. It is creepy. It is twitchy. But c’mon, deep down we all want that beautiful piece of face art.

The Handle Bar Last but certainly not least, The Handle Bar. Watch Robert De Niro’s Jackie Brown. The Handle Bar is soft but intimidating. Everyone will know you mean business.

CirQue du soliel

amaluna: SECRETS BEHIND AN EXTRAVAGANZA by Dustin Shrader

for thirty years, Cirque du soleil has defied the odds with breathtaking imagery and extravagant theatrics through countless show companies touring the globe many times over. the entertainment powerhouse’s latest production amaluna is unlike any other conceived. a core cast of women, a first for any past or current Cirque show, heralds amaluna.

unravelinG the Mystery behind this tour’s oriGinal theMe, CoMpany ManaGer franCk hanselMan offers us insiGht into life on the road and a refreshinG behindthe-sCenes look into suCh a beautiful, undeniable seatfillinG speCtaCle. What is Amaluna specifically? amaluna is the name of the mysterious island populated only by women. it is governed by goddesses and ruled by a queen named prospera. at the start of the show, her daughter Miranda comes of age. in honor of the celebration, queen prospera creates a great storm that shipwrecks a crew of dashing men on the island. as you can imagine, this sets in motion many dynamic events. Miranda falls in love with romeo, one of the young men washed ashore. prospera isn’t keen on this match. the story develops from there. Well, it definitely sounds like it is a great performance. “it is! there is a lot more storyline than what people might be used to. and amaluna is populated mostly by women. 70% of the cast is female and the band is all female. Now, that is a first, correct? yes, it is a first for a Cirque show. all of the other companies are 70% male and we have the exact opposite of that. Due to a majority femalebased performance, have you received a lot of positive feedback? the audience here in atlanta seems to really enjoy the show! we have standing ovations every night. i would say the feedback overall has definitely been positive.

So, how rigorous is it to garner a spot in a show like Cirque? it all depends on the discipline. we have a high profile. therefore, we have the luxury of a lot of performers sending in their stuff to us aka video material. we have talent scouts who even go out to gymnastic events and olympic Games to check out athletes and performers who would be an excellent addition to the company. there is a variety of discipline that we look for in actors, acrobats, dancers etc. it all depends on their profile and what the show needs at the time. What is life like behind the scenes? What are the daily motions of getting ready for a performance? the performers will spend a lot of the day doing general training, cardio or weights. then there are always practice sessions as well, specific to the acts they are in. we also have the artistic tent, where all the training equipment is setup. sometimes the performers practice new tricks. there is constant rehearsal training. it is full time and ongoing. obviously, they need to spend a lot of time staying fit. and they have to eat! we travel with a permanent kitchen staff who cook meals for us. on a day like today, we have a show at 7:30 pM. they will come in around noon in order to prepare. everyone does his or her own makeup. You mentioned practicing new tricks, is every performance slightly different with new moves thrown in? yeah, well i mean the framework is obviously fixed as far as choreography goes. but within the framework there is room to experiment a little bit. i watch the show regularly and every time i see it, i notice a little something different. the acts are constantly evolving.

What is something about the show that would surprise die-hard Cirque fans? Albeit, an element of the show or life behind all the lights and stage? show-wise we are the only touring show that has a water bowl on stage that is being used by one of our contortionists, it is unique. in addition, what may surprise the audience is that there is an age limit due to the acrobatics performed on stage. at some point, the body can’t handle those moves. people may expect there to be a lot of partying going on since we travel all over north america and we will even be crossing the seas to europe next year. however, there really isn’t. we stay so busy, dedicated and professional they stay focused on their jobs and living healthy. How does everyone handle the grueling life of the road? Moving from city to city every few weeks? we stay in each city roughly 6 to 10 weeks. we work 6 days a week. Monday is our day off. some use it to rest, while others get out and about exploring the city and meeting new people. sunday night is the start of our weekend, if you like so that is when we might have a party, a bbq or go into the city and let our hair down.

As Company Manager what all does your job entail? i manage all of the 115 people that we have on tour (artists, technicians, security, administrations, travel, lodging. i manage the whole tour more or less. Is this your first tour with Cirque? no, this is actually my fifth show. i started almost 13 years ago. now, this is my first show i have worked at as a company manager. You are openly gay, so have you noticed a lot of support from the gay community as the tour travels? with what we put on stage, there are pretty impressive bodies within the shows. the costumes they wear don’t cover them completely so you always notice a good chunk of the audience comes from the lGbt community. and that is great! as a company we have people from all walks of life. 18 different nationalities, all sorts of disciplines, various sexual orientations. it is one big melting pot. as a company, we celebrate diversity. we are happy to have that reflected within the audience.

Where do you see the show expanding as years progress? we have 18 shows around the world. the theme, storyline etc. will remain the same. usually big-top shows run 10 years or so. after that we could look at converting it into an arena show, which would allow performing for another 8 years, possibly. Anything specifically you would like to let anyone in the LGBT community or anyone who hasn’t seen the show? as i mentioned earlier we are a company that celebrates diversity. it’s a beautiful thing to see in the audience. we don’t discriminate whether you are a man, woman, gay, straight. we are very welcoming and we want everyone to come, just be themselves and enjoy!

To catch the full tale of Amaluna’s unrequited, star-crossed lovers visit http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/ shows/amaluna/tickets.aspx for ticket purchasing. Amaluna will run through November 30 at Atlantic Station.

Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Fashion Director

Her music career spans more than two decades. In fact, her international club banger ‘100% Pure Love’ is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. And that’s not even how it all began! FENUXE spoke to longterm hit sensation Crystal Waters about where it all began, instant career makers and, of course, the next chapter in her music career.

FENUXE.COM : 19

interview

The sirens that you hear are an indication of just how bad it ended.

20: November 6,2014

‘100% Pure Love’ came out in 1994, and now 20 years later it can still fill up a dance floor. How does it feel to have a hit that has that capability? i’ve got to admit it feels great! i’m a really lucky girl. the song is just so original with its catchy hook and deep bass line that just goes on and on. when i’m on stage i never get tired of performing that song, because it takes me right back to day one, you know. it’s like performing it as a brand new song again. And that’s not even how it all began. Your first hit Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless) was originally commissioned for Ultra Naté, but when the producers heard your rendition of your own song they decided to go with you instead – and it became a hit in the early nineties. Did you ever expect to become worldwide hit sensation? becoming like a pop star was the last thing on my mind. back then i wrote a very different

style of music; it was more sade than anything. ‘Gypsy woman’ was my very first dance title track, and it was put on my demo almost as a side note, but that was the song that got picked up right away. when it came out, it became this big hit, which no one expected. My very first performance of the song ever was on top of the pops in england. i had to go get my passport made! My first live performance in the u.s. was at the palladium in new york City. i had never been on a stage before to perform live and there i was with a whole live orchestra and dancers and whatnot. And then a couple of years later came ‘100% Pure Love’. How did that song compare to Gypsy Woman? well, it became an even bigger hit. it stayed on the charts for 48 weeks, which was the longest running at the time. with Gypsy woman it took everyone by surprise that it became such

with a dJ is even better, and when an album only has a lifespan of about three months it is important to bring out those singles. so i’m busy writing songs for the album, while i’m also writing songs for other dJs and producers. and i have a city tour sponsored by apple coming up in november. so lots of things going on!

it is basically about being in a relationship with a person who wasn’t very nice to me – the idea for the song comes from an argument that didn’t end well at all. the sirens that you hear are an indication of just how bad it ended. when i met stonebridge in 2010 we decided to work together, and i had this song that i didn’t know if i wanted to be a club song. but here we are, and it has been doing really well on spotify.

a big hit so we ended up kind of throwing all my demos on an album. with ‘100% pure love’ i wanted to make it right, because i felt like i missed it the first time around. so i hired a vocal coach and took my time to make an album i could feel really proud about. i was given the lead track; i rewrote the hook and convinced the producers that this was a hit record. and it was. it moved. Have you done anything special to celebrate the 20-year anniversary? nothing so far but some great remixes and i always give it space when i’m on tour as a dJ. but you just gave me an idea to do something special when i have a release party in november for my new song! Yes, now 20 years later you are ready to release a new club banger on to the world – tell us about that? ‘be kind’ is a collaboration with stonebridge (producer, ed.) and

It is doing better than that – it has been nominated for a Grammy! What are the expectations for this song? And will there be an album? right now the ‘be kind’ single is doing really well and i have worked with several great dJs on remixes. and i am working on an album, yes! i plan to bring out a new edM house album by spring next year, but i will be focusing on the singles, because singles are the move. dJs are hot right now, and promotion

Cars

Cars of the (Near) Future

All-Electric Luxury when tesla debuted in 2012 it rocked the auto world by not only being electric from the ground up and capable of driving over 200 miles per charge, but it was also a completely re-imagined approach to the conventional luxury sedan. Just about every aspect of the car makes it stand out as one of the most attractive and innovative cars on the streets. Just recently the company revealed plans to launch a dual motor model option in 2015 that will go 0-60 in 3.2 seconds – equal to just about any high-end sports car – and added features like autopilot and other intuitive driving systems. the tesla Model s starts at $69,900.

Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Fashion Director

as 2014 CoMes to a Close, a new slew of hot rides are standinG by to fulfill your Car fantasies. here are soMe of our favorites:

24: November 6,2014

Rebel With A Cause as Jeep continues to upgrade their model lineup, we will see a refreshing new take on the smaller all-wheel drive suv with the Jeep renegade, debuting in 2015. this little fella not only looks fresh and smart but will crawl just about any off-road hill and take you on new adventures. this car will be as close to the Jeep wrangler you can get, but with lots of added features to make the ride both fun and comfortable. pricing has not yet been determined, but it will hopefully be comfortably around the $20,000 mark.

Sharp As a Knife for the past several years lexus has been a little like a dull knife with a somewhat uninteresting model line-up, but this year they have transformed that knife into a razor-sharp samurai sword. enter the new 467 hp lexus rC f. precision design that is jagged and flowing at the same time gives this beauty the proper mean look that owns the streets. imagine those slanted, meanlooking eyes in your rearview mirror – wouldn’t you move out of the way? the lexus rC f starts at $62,400.

Still Going Strong with more than 36 years running the ford f-series is the most popular as well as best selling truck we have ever seen. the new f-150 is lighter, but has lost none of its strength or performance, and has a much more effective engine, which will save you some money at the pump. this is a truck ideal for heavy work, but feels like luxury car. this new generation of f-150 will become just as popular as the previous model both as a working man’s truck and a lifestyle vehicle. starts at $25,420.

The Fascinating Facets of

Rufus

Wainwright by Dustin Shrader

Singer, songwriter, composer and revolutionary. These are only a few terms to describe the great Rufus Wainwright. The talented musician has recorded seven original albums, in addition to offering many compilations to film soundtracks. At age 14, he wrote “I’m A Runnin’” for the movie Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler, which earned the singer a Genie Award nomination (Canada’s version of the Oscar’s.) Rufus also identifies as a libertarian. He has been a formidable gay rights activist since meeting and falling in love with his partner, Jörn Weisbrodt. In advance of his upcoming Atlanta performance, Fenuxe spoke to Rufus about music, life, his current tour and his second opera, Hadrian, which will premiere at the Canadian Opera Company as their opening production of the 2018 main stage season at the Four Seasons Centre. and enclosed atmosphere for gay rights. This was during the early Bush years. So, I just automatically had to be engaged as an activist by just being honest. It is just the way it has to be when you are in the limelight.

Music has been a part of your life since you were very little, how would you say you have most grown as an artist as the years have gone by? Well, I don’t think I ever not had a chance to develop as an artist. I’ve been involved in music for as long as I can remember, so I hit the ground running, more or less. I would say that my appreciation for opera and classical music, I definitely have an endless and eternal feeling towards it. I was lucky in my teenage years to have founded it. It has transferred very well into my pop music. It’s not about money, views or what the “chicks” want. It’s about depth. And wisdom. You can never hit the bottom I have realized. It is forever ongoing. As your tour starts in Australia next year, what can your fans expect from the show? The stop in Australia will actually be the end of my current tour. I am finishing this little round here in the U.S. So, Australia will be the grand finale. Fans can expect the same things I have delivered on stage here, but maybe just with some added grandeur there. You recently discussed writing, “I’m A Runnin’” in an interview 28: November 6,2014

with the BBC, are there any other moments from your early days that bring back fond memories for you? Well, recently I did a fantastic show in London. This place is considered a national treasure. It really means you have done something when asked to perform there. I got to orchestrate. I t was really exciting! There are some real standards and supporters that have favored me Photo by Ellis Parrinder

over the years, so I am happy with all my choices I have made. Do social issues ever play a role when it comes to your music? Yeah, definitely. I am a gay man. I have always gotten that fact from the get go. Whether I have wanted it or not, it has always put me in somewhat of a controversial position. Back when I started in the business, it was much more intense

What has been your favorite project thus far? Um, I’m a big fan of… well, it is actually hard to tell. It could be my pop work, or my opera. I will say that one of the most gratifying projects I completed, so touching, was the tribute my sister and I did to our mother, who passed away. In my opinion, she was one of the great songwriters of her generation. I believe she was underappreciated in a way. It was a sad experience, but I feel it was also the deepest I have ever gone. What can you tell fans about how Hadrian is coming along? Yes, it will premiere in 2018 in Toronto, Canada. I am working on it as we speak. It is one of the great gay love stories of the ancient world. It is about a very powerful and successful emperor who fell in love with a 17-year-old and lost everything. And the set is romantic and grand! It is a very ornate story I am excited to dig my teeth into. I am not holding back on this one. What inspired you to get behind this project? There is this book called Memoirs of Hadrian that initially inspired me. But I don’t know… he was basically king of the world and being in that position then losing it all for love. It is a very universal story that tends to repeat itself for millennia. It is just one example of the fight for equality. So, any last words to your local fans before your upcoming performance? Well, I have been eating healthy and working out quite a bit to stay in shape (chuckles). I want to look good! My hope is that everyone will come out and support me. We’ll have a good time!

tAURUS [apr. 20 - may 20]

discouragement will be knocking at your door by comparing your progress or your accomplishments with an idealized version of where you wish you were. let your mind daydream and focus on something small. you are pulled to others who are unwavering, energetic, and liberated at this time, likely because you long to feel free and uninhibited. you y will begin to feel restless and bogged down when things around you seem to be standing still. foggy thinking can be a problem so pay extra attention to your work.

gEMiNi [may 21 - Jun. 22]

this can be a dreamy day, although you may feel a little guilty if you are not being productive and decide to stay in your pjs. be careful in formal communications for you might be easily misunderstood. keep inforinfor mal conversations light and fun. people may be trying to pin you down to something, but listen to your instincts. it is not time for a commitment yet young buck. pretending otherwise can end up leading others on, which eventually leads to hurt feelings.

CANCER [Jun. 21 - Juy. 22]

you and a partner might enjoy more responsive intensity and passion now. if you are not involved, a former love relationship may be renewed, or deep feelings are stirred when you recall memories of a past ex. instead, your passion can be channeled into a project or one of your favorite hobbies. tap t into your imagination, as well as to draw on your past experiences, in order to create something stirring and revolutionary.

LEO [Jul. 23 - auG. 22]

you might find that conversations and debates entered into today seem to run in complete circles getting you absolutely nowhere. if you’re in the position to do repetitive mental work, the day can be frustrating or difficult. similarly, be mindful that your attitude towards finances just now is not entirely realistic, so it’s safe to evade making thoughtless purchases that you might regret later.

ViRgO [auG. 23 - sept. 22]

speak up and voice your honest opinions but do not raise your voice to the point of unwarranted ruderudeness. focus on what needs to be polished in order to bring a transformation rather than trying to wipe off the old residue of the past. avoid a conflicts of people you live with instead of con-fronting them. the pointless arguing will only give you a headache.

LibRA [sept. 23 - OCt. 22]

rise up sunshine! the stars are foreseeing that they have an important and rewarding job for you. you need to make anyone and everyone near you happy today. this will open the floodgates to good fortune and resolve. however, shy away from lending money, you may not see your return investment. stay active for your health is solid.

In addition to doing my makeup, I also got to do apply the makeup to the hunky VIP guards. I accidentally on purpose dropped my makeup brushes a couple of times over their crotches just so I could get a good look. After repeatedly suggesting their outfits would look better if they didn’t wear underwear, they finally succummbed to my charms (I hit them over the head with my purse) and eagerly complied. Finally I got to see their asp! Well, ass too! Mmmmmmm, its so tasty too! Oh, and that reminds me… If you haven’t checked out a new TV show called the McCarthy’s on CBS Thursdays at 9pm, do yourself a favor and DVR it. It is great!! I love how they have a gay son but the story doesn’t revolve around him being gay. Laurie Metcalf (from Roseanne) plays the mother and is as always funny. I predict an Emmy nod for her already. The writing is smart and funny as well as the acting. Love it!! Love and lashes

Holler Poodles! I’m so glad to hear everyone had such a great time at the Jerusalem House Halloween Party at the W Midtown. It was a record turnout and the costumes were the best I’ve seen yet. My favorites were the Krog Street Tunnel before and after (gotta love current events), The Mindy Project look-a-like and the almost naked Indian and Cowboy! The Krewes this year did a fantastic job! The Saturday Night Live Character’s Krewe were amazing! I want to thank Jon Santos and his hard working team for making this an incredible year. If you missed it this year, you definitely want to make plans for next year! 38: November 6,2014

Atlanta Costume Tip: Norcostco Atlanta Costume now carries 301 lashes! A must have for any queen. These dramatic extra-thick, extra-long human hair lashes are specifically designed for drag performers, showgirls and professional divas. Durable enough to be worn up to a dozen times. Personally, I love these lashes so much because they are dramatic and really frame the eyes you’ve worked so hard to perfect! Tell them Mary Edith sent you!!

apple bottom appreciation Day?

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook voiced that he is “proud to be gay” cementing himself as the first openly gay leader of a major U.S. company. On October 30th, in an essay, he scribed himself; he decided to forgo personal privacy stating that being honest about his sexuality will hopefully help others who are struggling with their own identity. Cook insists the trade-off of his own privacy will be worth the power to inspire people for equality acceptance and assurance.

it’s been waiting For you

Taylor Swift’s latest album, 1989 is vastly becoming a major hit. The first track titled “Welcome to New York” is the second single climbing the charts following her first foray into pop, “Shake It Off.” As “Welcome” grows in popularity many are deeming the catchy song as the new gay anthem, in addition to being a synthetic commercial for New York tourism. Within the lyrics, Taylor hums suggestively that New York is a place for unparalleled freedom. She sings, “You can want who you want,” and “Boys and boys and girls and girls.” I am not entirely sure the song will end homophobia or daily discrimination the LGBT community has to battle but the single has a good beat. T. Swift did us a solid and scored a perfect ten with this one. Don’t judge, but I already booked my flight. 42: November 6,2014

Gay the straight way

YouTube fan favorite Davey Wavey recently released a glorious video. In his latest, the fitness and lifestyle guru asked a handful of straight boys to define common slang terms used in the gay community. And the results were adorably hilarious. One man defined the term “Vers” as “You’re singin’ it to him while you’re givin’ it to him.” Best thing ever! Another suggested that “PNP” stood for “penetration no penis” as opposed to the borderline illegal “party ‘n play.” Check out the video for even more wonderful, new interpretations of some of our favorite terms. Oh, the boys take off their shirts, in case that helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGVHqdlGIHQ

mi Hot tub es su Hot tub

According to a Spring Hill, Tennessee man, he awoke to find a naked, picture perfect Adonis taking his hot tub for a spin. Now, the resident immediately called the cops stating, “I just woke up and there’s someone outside in my hot tub and he’s naked.” Upon arrest, the naked stranger was identified as 27-year-old Matthew Kreighbaum. He was charged with criminal trespassing and indecent exposure. Surprisingly, drugs and alcohol played no part in this vaguely similar porn film scenario. Hmmm, maybe Matthew was simply trying to get the guy’s attention. I mean, if I woke up to find those cheekbones in my hot tub, calling the cops would be the last thing on my mind.
