PARTY @ WOOFS PHOTOS BY: SHER PRUITT

MUSIC

By Jimmy Newsum

HOLIDAY GIFTS FOR THE DANCE FLOOR So you’re planning your annual holiday bash and you’re still not sure what new tunes to cue up for the big celebration? Rest assured, our friends at Nexus Dance Radio have ya covered with the season’s hottest beats. In fact, we’re worried their list of party tunes may be so hot it might cause your floor to spontaneously combust in an explosion of pure joy and body-moving ecstasy. That’s how good we think it is.

“CALI”

Ralphi Rosario vs. Ashley J

Sometimes, Ashley feels like throwing her hands up in the air, as she says in the first line of this dance anthem. And the minute that Ralphi Rosario’s beat kicks in, you will feel exactly the same way. That’s the power of brilliant club music. Ralphi’s infectious vibe – the synthy swooshes and digitized loops - are front and center in Ashley J’s frenzied, high-energy romp about how they do things in California. Let’s just break it down: this track is smoking! It is hard pounding, sweat dripping, non-stop party madness; exactly what dance floors need to keep temps up through winter. Ralphi and Ashley deserve major props for presenting a slickly produced blockbuster that is truly big room dance music at its finest.

“¡SPICY!” Cazwell

Every so often, a song comes along that is so innovative; it not only gets clubbers to shake their bootays, it changes the shape of the musical landscape. That would describe Cazwell’s latest, an ode to the Latino culo. Pitbull meets MIA in this explosive new party jam, laden with heavy percussion and horns and sharp, lyrical rhymes that are as clever and dirty as you’d expect from Cazwell. Inspired by a guy he was seeing who was passionate in bed but also quick to snap, ¡Spicy! is couched with a hook that is tailor-made for the club, performed by side chick Cherie Lily. So go ahead: shake what you got, turn that crown upside down and relish every deliciously spicy move you make on the dance floor this holiday.

“KEYBOARD COURAGE” Kelly Mantle

The latest pop track from this fan favorite of RuPaul’s Drag Race is an anthem for all who have fallen victims to cyberbullies and internet trolls. Produced by Steven Phillips, who also produced Mantle’s Satellite Baby album, the song is undeniably catchy. It bathes in a cross-appeal bolstered by Kelly Mantle’s surprisingly impressive vocals and the track’s ’80s pop-synth muscle. Mantle wrote the song after meeting young fans being victimized by kids in school. In the song, she recounts some of the vicious tweets she has received, including one that called her so ugly, she looked like a burn victim going through chemo. Well, who’s laughing now, troll bitches?

“LITHIUM” Athena

With the passion, aggression, ennui and insouciance that can only come with being implausibly young, the explosive new track from this 17-year old dynamo is an artful blend of pop music with exciting dance elements. It’s about going out at 3 a.m. and partying ‘til the sun comes up; a bit ironic coming from a girl who likely hasn’t stepped foot inside a real dance club yet. It also might strike some as odd that the song is about a drug you can’t actually get high from. Lithium’s a mood stabilizer that turns people into zombies. But that’s not the point! The point is lithium is something some people need, just like letting loose in the club is a drug some other people need. Also, Razor & Guido and Dan De Leon provide remixes that are engineered to make the most inhibited listener lose their mind.

“WERK OUT” Andre Xcellence

You’re not simply encouraged to dance in this new jam, you’re ordered to hit the floor and werk up a sweat. Given the song’s thumping beats that are bouncier than flubber and its ridiculous collision of rapid-fire rap verses and super poppy, husky-voiced lyricism, it’s pretty much impossible to ignore the request. There are several reasons Andre Xcellence has managed to soar above all the other gay rappers that have hit the scene in the last year. For one, his style is cutting edge. Two: he’s not afraid of gimmicks (did you catch his collaboration with Manila Luzon on Ice Cream?). But most importantly, while he may play with his lyrics, he doesn’t his production is serious business. The catchy riffs and heavy bass on “Werk Out” might very well classify Andre’s latest as his greatest.

COMMUNITY

BY H. ADAM ACKLEY, PH.D.

To a Trans Person Considering Suicide:

a Lifeline

As a volunteer with Trans Lifeline, the trans-to-trans peer support line staffed only by trans volunteer operators and funded primarily by small donations from individuals in the trans community, I wish I could do so much more for my trans peers in crisis than i can. Underemployed, I can’t donate more than $20 a month right now. Working 4 part-time jobs trying without success to make ends meet as a single parent, there are only moments here and there when I can answer our phone line or support our volunteers in other ways -- but I share these heartfelt words with any other trans person considering suicide: I too am trans and share the experience of having my career destroyed simply for having come out, having worked with many non-profit orgs and communities to try to build greater understanding, and feeling so discouraged by not only the lack of response but even worse, backward movement (as I worked primarily with religious organizations) that I genuinely question whether I can keep going. I share that only to let you know that I believe your pain: Yes, just living one day at a time as a trans person can that painful, just as it is for so many of us. (After all, nearly half of us attempt suicide.) As trans people, we share this difficult, life-threatening moment right now in cultural history where so many of us have come out after forward movement by some caregivers and lawmakers, but doing so has startled a culture that often used to take more of a “don’t ask don’t tell” approach to our presence. Those who used to have no opinion on or awareness of trans lives seem to go out of their way now to express overt hatred, even violence, and sometimes (at best) willful indifference on an organizational level. Those of us who choose not to end life (a very difficult daily, even moment by moment, choice that I struggle with too) often find what meaning we can in supporting each other, for example, those of us who volunteer for peer support crisis prevention phone line Trans Lifeline.

suicide (one more message that trans lives are worthless -- even to the trans person themselves in this case) to my trans friends, my trans community, and especially to a wider world that seemingly can’t wait to add the “evidence” of these high numbers of suicides to their “proof” that we are all crazy, hopeless, not worth saving, beyond help -- so shouldn’t be allowed to live among other human beings as ourselves. (Yes, that’s the message of the bathroom laws, religious exemptions for schools, and burials by families with clothes and names that aren’t the ones we use for ourselves: We know very well we can’t stop being who we really are. We aren’t being policed into our birth gender, we’re being policed into LYING so that we die in the closet, no longer the eyesore and “social problem” others don’t want to see.) I thank you for every day you have chosen to live so far, for any work you have done already for trans community, the efforts you have already put in and the seeds you have planted just by being yourself one day at a time, any day or moment you have chosen to be present. Our work and lives as trans people in this historical moment may, perhaps, be slow to bear fruit because of the cultural backlash against us right now. But for all of us -or as many of us as possible -- to survive, we need to be here to plant and nurture those seeds together. This line is primarily for transgender people experiencing a crisis. This includes people who may be struggling with their gender identity and are not sure that they are transgender. While our goal is to prevent self harm, we welcome the call of any transgender person in need. We will do our very best to connect them with services that can help them meet that need. If you are not sure whether you should call or not, then please call us. US: (877) 5658860, Canada: (877) 330-6366 Follow H. Adam Ackley, Ph.D. on Twitter: www.twitter.com/DrHAdamAckley

Personally, I believe that for right now, many of the individual conversations and systemic changes we are working at outside and beyond the trans community, with people who are not trans themselves, are going to seem ineffective at present -- changes, when they finally come, may be life-threateningly slow and personal, effected best by personal relationships between trans and non-trans individuals. The lack of immediate impact when our community is being killed off by hate crimes and suicide at a rate far beyond that of any other group sometimes can feel as if our work and lives are meaningless. But I also truly believe as I get to know other trans people that while my own life might seem fruitless and worthless to me, I value other trans lives. And every time one of us kills ourselves, it sends a powerful message to the whole community, a ripple effect that adds to our already nearly unbearable pain and suffering as trans individuals. Sometimes, even as recently as days ago, what keeps me going is not wanting to add the burden of yet one more trans FENUXE.COM : 27

COURTNEY PAUL’S FITNESS

IS HIS REALITY

Bravo-TV’s Top Stud Muscles His Way to Stardom For over a decade, Courtney Paul’s passion in life has been helping people to become healthier, faster and stronger. Through his CPXperience, a specially branded fitness program, Courtney has motivated clients far beyond their physical limits. Now Bravo is doing the same for Courtney, transporting the unapologetically bawdy, rebellious, electrifying and hilarious personality from his Big Apple gym into living rooms across the country. Courtney Paul is the star of Bravo’s newest reality TV show, Work Out New York, a series that chronicles seven of Manhattan’s elite personal trainers. “I was made for reality television,” asserts the out trainer whose confidence is as hefty as his brawn. It’s his unique brand of no-nonsense tough talk that has helped propel him into one of Manhattan’s most sought-after trainers. It’s also one of the reasons he was selected to star in the series. Courtney is a fixture at high-end New York sports clubs like David Barton Gym, and Barry’s Bootcamp, where he is a master instructor. His roster of celebrity clients includes Katie Holmes, Dylan McDermott, Elizabeth Olson, Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski and Tony Award winners Alan Cumming and Jane Krakowski. Courtney was the first trainer booked for the show and he is using the platform to introduce his CPXperience workout to a national audience. A name coined by Paul, CPXperience is a thoughtfully curated mix of strength and cardio-intensive interval training specifically designed to build muscle, lean and tone. A particular focus is placed on the legs and glutes because Courtney believes a perfect physique starts with a strong foundation. A fortunate side effect to his program (and likely why it has become so popular) is it builds that perfect POW booty. Courtney is also using the show to launch his next endeavor: fitness vacations. Clients are offered combination workoutvacation-retreats to exotic destinations. Days are started with Courtney’s signature workouts (think bicep curls on the beaches of Turks and Caicos or running the streets of Barcelona) followed by travel adventures and, of course, rest. Says Courtney, “When you take a fitness vacation, there’s no need to come home feeling like you need to go on a diet because you ate too much. And why worry about having that extra drink at dinner? You know I’ll make you sweat it out in the morning!” The vacations also encourage yearlong fitness, a belief Courtney strongly adheres to. One of his favorite things to say is “the body of the summer is made in the winter.” “People always rush to lose weight three weeks before they have to get into a swimsuit,” he says. “When you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready -- because you never know when you’re going to have to strip down and show it off.” Work Out New York is airing now on Bravo. FINANCE

6 TAX WORDS to Financial y Wise Gay Couples BY DAVID RAE Whether you’ve been together for years or decades (or 10 minutes), 2015 taxes will be the first time many LGBT couples will be filing jointly on their federal and state returns because -cue the trumpets -- we’re married now! With marriage equality the law of the land, now we work out the nuts and bolts. As if filing taxes wasn’t complicated enough, your first time filing as a married couple may throw off the balance you’ve developed filing separately all these time.

‘Tis the (tax) season

Marriage equality may indeed bring changes to your tax situation including the dreaded ‘marriage penalty’ (more on this in a future post). But there’s quite a lot you can do to bring your bill down now. But please, please, please don’t wait until 11 p.m. on April 15th and risk getting shocked by a surprisingly high bill from the tax man or miss out on year-end deadlines for significant tax-saving opportunities.

So even though you’d much rather be decking the halls with holly right now, you two do need to get in touch with your inner Scrooges for a few hours of proactive tax prep as in immediately. Why? Because once the New Year has rung in, many of these opportunities will disappear overnight like yesterday’s bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne.

Mind how you go: 1. Get on the same page with your spouse now that you are legally married and can file your taxes jointly. You need to work together to keep as much of your hard-earned money as possible. As a married couple, deductions may now make sense that didn’t in the past. On the other hand, you may collectively end up in a higher tax bracket together, this may also be coupled with a reduction of potential tax deductions. If this is

your first year filing together, you might want to see if a financial planner or CPA can squeeze you in for some much needed guidance and advice.

2. Review prior years’ tax returns for both spouses. This isn’t really a year-end tax tip, but all the same: If you were legally married but not receiving federal recognition (as happened in many states), you may be able to amend up to your prior three years of tax returns to filing as a married couple. I’ve worked with many people who were able to get thousands back with amended past years tax returns. It never hurts to check and see if you are owed a refund, on the other hand if filing as a married couple would have raised your tax bill, you should just leave things as they are.

3. Give your investment portfolio a checkup. Ask your financial planner if there are

any tax harvesting opportunities in your non-retirement accounts. This can be a great way to reduce your tax drag on your investment accounts. Saving money on taxes within your portfolio is like additional return on your investment without taking any more risk. Investors in higher tax brackets should look to capture losses to help offset gains. However, if you happen to be in a lower tax bracket you may end up with the 0% capital gain rate for the year (income under $73,800 for a married couple) you may want to lock in some of the gains in your portfolio.

4. Be generous This the time of year to do some winter cleaning, clean out the garage and closets, donate all that stuff to a charity and get a receipt. You will be doing some good and get a nice tax deduction in the process. For monetary contributions to charity, make sure you use a check or credit card as proof of your generosity in case the IRS questions your donation.

5. Max out your retirement accounts. Want to lower your tax bill? Do you want to retire some day? If you answered yes to both, contributing to your retirement accounts can be a win-win. The money you contribute to a 401(k) or an IRA are excluded from you income, helping you reduce your tax bill. Also that money can now be invested to help build your retirement nest egg. If you currently are not on track to max your accounts out, you can direct some extra money from your last few paychecks to get as much money into the account as possible. This year you can contribute up to $18,000 to a 401(k). You have until tax time to fully fund an IRA or Roth IRA if you qualify. That can be another $5500 deduction. More if you are over 50. If one spouse has been out of work, or is a stay at home you can now also take advantage of a spousal IRA.

6. Be smart with your deductions Is your income growing or shrinking? If it’s shrinking, your deductions may be worth more this year. Or vice versa. You may want to pay some things like your January mortgage payment before year’s end to push more of the deductions into this year. If your income is growing, you may want to put things like charitable deductions off until January so you can deduct them next year. Don’t forget, doing well financially is not how much you make but about how much you keep. Working with trusted financial professionals before end of the year will see that you can take advantage of all the tax opportunities our newfound marriage equality has to offer.

Hey Girl Hey! Holler Poodles! I’ve been going to all these holiday parties and all these people insist on handing me drinks as soon as I get off my rascal scooter. As I’ve said before, I don’t drink [much] and I don’t appreciate when some of you inseminate otherwise. I crashed attended a holiday party last night at the home of a dear friend stranger in the exotic locale of Brookhaven Jonesboro. From what I remember of the party, it was a great time had by all. I made my famous chocolate dump cake with peanuts which surprisingly no one touched. Everyone must have been concerned about the peanut recall. I remember dancing grinding with some man until somebody had called me a white elephant and started passing me all these awful gifts. Clearly, I must have been slipped a roofie drank too much because when I woke up was asked to leave or they would call the cops, I was missing a few key articles of clothing in the bathroom. After grabbing a curtain panel and stapler, I vowed was issued a restraining order to never go there again. It just goes to show you never know who you can trust. Even Santa Claus! As a little girl of 21, every time I sat in Santa’s lap at the mall, it felt like he was trying to stick the North Pole up my chimney. Then he wanted to complain about the lump of coal I gave him! Well!? Of course my favorite part of the holiday season is the Christmas music. I just love that new little lesbian’s Christmas album “Under the Mistletoe by Justina Bieber”. She looks just like a boy. Her video of the “Little Drummer Boy” dressed up in leather bondage gear brought a tear to my eye and a fart to my butt. Hauntingly beautiful. Finally, what Christmas wouldn’t be complete without the joy drama of family. My great great grandmother Nana Split Pitts will be joining me, my ex-husband Barry Hinden Berg [yes I did take on his name while we were married for that one week--Mary Edith Pitts-Burgh] and my evil sister, Olive Pitts and her 14 adopted children from Africa or Octomom, I can’t keep it straight. Anyway, Nana will be celebrating her 123rd birthday during this season so Olive bought her an urn and a match. I guess she’s on Santa’s naughty list. All joking aside--Have a wonderful holiday season and make every moment count! Love and lashes,

Gay News At A Glance MARCO RUBIO SUGGESTS HIS SUPREME COURT WOULD ROLL BACK MARRIAGE EQUALITY Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio suggested that the justices he nominates to the Supreme Court may roll back marriage equality, in an interview that aired Sunday. The Florida senator cited Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” during an interview and said he disagreed with the Supreme Court’s

decision that struck down state bans on same-sex marriage. Rubio said that “no one should ever be compelled to sin by law” and that a minister should not be compelled to marry a same-sex couple, which is not something that has happened. “I don’t believe any case law is settled law. Any future Supreme Court can change it. And ultimately, I will appoint Supreme Court justices that will interpret the Constitution as originally constructed,” Rubio said. Rubio dismissed the idea of attempting to pass a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage because, he said, “I don’t think the current Constitution gives the federal government the power to regulate marriage.”

ZACHARY QUINTO EXPLAINS THE TRUE COST OF DISCRIMINATION ON SOCIETY. For World Human Rights Day last week, the United Nation’s Free & Equal campaign joined up with out actor Zachary Quinto, of Star Trek and American Horror Story, to highlight the true cost of LGBTI discrimination. The video released last week is narrated by Quinto showing how much the whole of society loses if the rights of LGBTI people are not protected, no matter if it’s in the workplace, home or school. ‘Between half and two thirds of LGBTI youth are bullied, and one third of them see themselves forced to quit school over it. LGBTI teenagers consider suicide four times more than their straight friends; and trans peers are up to ten times as likely to attempt suicide.’ 40: December 18, 2015

He disagreed with the Supreme Court’s ruling that state bans on same-sex marriage discriminate against gays and lesbians. “It’s not about discrimination. It is about the definition of a very specific, traditional, and age-old institution,” he said. “If you want to change it, you have a right to petition your state legislature and your elected representatives to do it. What is wrong is that the Supreme Court has found this hidden constitutional right that 200 years of jurisprudence had not discovered and basically overturn the will of voters in Florida, where over 60 percent passed a constitutional amendment that defined marriage in the state constitution as the union of one man and one woman.”

‘In study after study, rates of poverty, homelessness, depression & suicide are found to be far higher in the LGBT community than among the general population,’ said Charles Radcliffe, Head of Global Issues at the UN Human Rights Office and campaign director of UN Free & Equal. ‘But it’s not only LGBT people who pay the price; we all do. Every trans kid thrown out of home or forced out of school is a loss for society. ‘Every gay or lesbian worker denied work or driven to emigrate is a lost opportunity to build a more productive economy.’ Everyone who still thinks the effects LGBTI discrimination has on the economy are small and marginal should think again. You can watch the video, ‘Free And Equal – The Price Of Exclusion’ on Youtube.

LAWSUIT CLAIMS PRIEST STOLE CHURCH MONEY AND SPENT ON BOYFRIEND Parishioners from two Catholic churches in New York have filed a lawsuit against a priest and his alleged boyfriend who they claim he spent lavishly on with stolen church money. They allege Rev. Peter Miqueli stole from church coffers to pay for sex with bodybuilder-escort Keith Crist with whom he lives in a house paid for with $264,000 in cash. The parishioners are also suing the Archdiocese of New York who they claim is covering up for Miqueli, currently pastor at St. Frances de Chantal Church in Throgs Neck. The lawsuit also claims the priest stole from his old church, St. Francis Cabrini, on Roosevelt Island. Among the allegations detailed in the

suit are stealing money collected for a church organ, spent up to $1,000 per sex session with Crist, and spent on vacations to Italy and Florida. It also alleges that the priest provided no accounting of money collected at mass and ignored the procedure of placing money into a locked bag, storing it in a safe and having it counted and logged by more than one trusted parishioner.
