BY JOE MAE Three of the biggest names in gay club music are sending love to Orlando, releasing a music video and song to help victims of the Pulse nightclub shootings. Tony Moran, Nicki Richards and Zhana Roiya have united on a remake of “High”, the inspirational track about rising above adversity, originally 20: August 12, 2016
recorded by the Lighthouse Family. The song has long been a celebrated LGBTQ anthem. Moran sings on the new version, along with Roiya and Richards, a vocalist best known for providing back-up vocals for Madonna. “Pulse nightclub was a safe haven and hub for the LGBTQ community to
gather with family and friends, indulge themselves in the rhythms and to create lasting memories filled with joy and laughter,” says Tony Moran from his home in New York. “How it all changed in an instant is still a shock. June 12 will forever be a dark day for the LGBTQ community.”
49 people were killed and 53 were injured in the attack, making it the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in US history. “It’s incredibly important that the community continue to rally the world’s support, to erase the fear and begin to rebuild,” Moran continues. “The Orlando shooting has demonstrated the strength of our community and I’m inspired to take this movement even higher!” In addition to enlisting Roiya and Richards, Moran pulled together a group of his influential friends for the project. Photographer Karl Giant directed the music video and Phil McKenna created all graphics for the campaign. Both provided their services at no charge. Tony Moran has modeled a career based on encouraging positivity and spreading love. He is considered one of the godfathers of the “freestyle” music movement, having launched the careers of early ’90s music stars The Cover Girls and Lisette Milendez. He would go on to produce and collaborate with some of the biggest names in pop including Gloria Estefan, Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Luther Vandross. Moran has remixed for Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna, among others, and is regarded as one of the most influential DJs in house music. “High” was originally released by the British pop duo Lighthouse Family. Released on the last day of 1997, the song quickly rose to No. 1 in Australia and landed in the top 10 in many European countries. In the USA, its profound message of unity and rising above adversity helped it to become a celebrated LGBTQ anthem. “I knew it was the perfect track to re-make after the Orlando tragedy,” explains Moran. “It’s a beautiful reminder that love conquers all and when the community bands together, we can rise as high as the sky.” “High” by Tony Moran (feat. eople say you’re all wet. Maybe that’s not the nicest thing you’ve ever heard but hey! If something’s true, it’s true, right? Yep, you love being in a pool, lake, pond, the ocean, a puddle, it doesn’t matter. And in “The Joy of Swimming” by Lisa Congdon, you’ll meet likeminded people in swimsuits. At the tender age of eight, Lisa Congdon learned to love swimming when her mother signed her up for swim team near their California home. It was fun, but it was work, and her interest in swimming declined: life got in the way, school demanded time, injuries happened. It wasn’t until college, after she came out as a lesbian, that Congdon resumed the sport in earnest, and it connected her to the better parts of her life. Swimmers, as she shows in this book, come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. Gertrude Ederle, for instance, was just twenty years old when she swam the English Channel in under 15 hours, a record she held for a quartercentury. Johnny Weissmuller, who later played Tarzan in the movies, was the first person to swim the 100-meter freestyle in less than a minute. Roxanne Winston thinks more black swimmers should “feel inspired to join the sport.” Kimberly Chambers almost lost her leg to “a freak accident,” but she still swims. Chel Micheline finds that being in the water frees her from spina bifida. But swimming isn’t just about a cool dip in the lake: dog paddling can be embarrassing (unless, of course, you’re a dog!), so you’ll want to know a few basic strokes, the science behind and the history of which Congdon explains. You’ll learn a “very brief history” of swimming pools here, too, including where the largest one is located; you’ll read an itsybitsy bio on the bikini; and you’ll get quick facts on swimming and the Olympics. Find out why you’ll want to cover your eyes if you visit an Icelandic locker room. See how even Michael Phelps is slow, compared to a sailfish. Get the real definition of a “swimming hole.” And find out why some people take bandages along when visiting a public pool in Japan.
Seriously, can you ever have a summer without at least one great big cannonball, deadcenter in the water? If your answer is to the negative, then “The Joy of Swimming” is a perfect poolside book for you. Using old ads, interviews, and her own drawings as illustration, author Lisa Congdon offers readers a bit of quirk for their deck chair. This has the feel of a sketch book or a haphazardly-kept scrapbook with mini-memoirs of the famous and never-famous, trivia, Olympic facts, statistics, and random thoughts. That messiness is really appealing, and you’ll come to love this book after a few laps around its pages. Dip your toes in if you dare, or just dive right in. The water’s fine, and so is this book; for mermaid, athlete, or mere fans of the old waterin’ hole, “The Joy of Swimming” will make a big splash.

Gay News At A Glance AUTOPSIES OF PULSE NIGHTCLUB MASSACRE VICTIMS RELEASED
The reports show many of the victims were shot multiple times. Bullets struck all over the bodies, including the head, legs, chest, and back. There were a total of 130 gunshot wounds.
Officials released 31 autopsies from the Orlando massacre which shows the victims were struck by bullets in all parts of the body, including head, legs, chest, and back. On 12 June, 49 people were killed and 53 injured at the hands of a shooter who claimed the attack was done in the name of multiple Islamic terrorists groups.
The reports also indicate most of the victims were not shot at close range, which means they had little time to react. Emanuel Kapelsohn, president of The Peregrine Corp. and a firearms consultant, told the newspaper the weapon used fires bullets that can pierce a soldier’s helmet from approximately 600 meters.
‘It’s heartbreaking and it’s extremely difficult, but I have to know exactly what happened to my son, and I want the world to know and understand what he went through,’ Christine Leinonen said, ‘People will share my pain and realize he’s more than just a photo flashing on a screen and went through a lot of pain,’ she continued.

GAY PORN STAR ARRESTED FOR RAPING HIS FIVE-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AND GIVING HER A STD A gay-for-pay porn star was arrested for raping his five-year-old daughter and giving her a sexually transmitted disease on Tuesday. He stands accused on five charges: sexual battery on a person less than 12 years of age, lewd or lascivious molestation of a person less than 12 years of age, unlawful transmission of an STD via sexual intercourse, incest and aggravated child abuse. The charges came after the adult performer was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill a Florida detective, who was reportedly investigating the allegations of incest. It is possible, if found guilty, the porn star will face the a sentence of 25 years to life in prison, or even the death penalty. The accused in question has previously been arrested for assaulting his wife, and on drug, DUI, burglary, traffic and battery charges. He spent nearly two years in prison for an assault of an elderly person over 65.
VIRGINIA MAYOR ARRESTED FOR OFFERING METH FOR SEX The mayor of Fairfax City in Virginia was arrested for allegedly offering meth in exchange for group sexual encounters with other men. Richard ‘Scott’ Silverthorne, 50, was among those arrested during a sting operation involving undercover detectives. ‘We were provided with information from a citizen that the mayor was involved with a web site,’ Captain Jack Hardin, commander of the Fairfax County organized crime unit said.
‘It was alleged he was exchanging meth for sex.’ Police say an undercover detective made a profile on the website that Silverthorne to replied to two days later, according to police. Text messages were exchanged during which Silverthorne allegedly said he could ‘provide meth’ if the detective could provide a hotel room. The mayor was released from jail shortly after his arrest on charges of meth distribution and possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither he or his attorney had any comment. Silverstone’s arrest comes during a particularly bad period in his life during which he has battled neck cancer, lost his job and his house and filed for federal bankruptcy protection.
UNDER THREAT, UGANDA’S PRIDE PARADE HAS BEEN CANCELED
Uganda’s Pride Parade has been canceled a day after police raided a Pride fashion show. During the raid, LGBTI people were beaten, brutalized, arrested, sexually assaulted, trans women’s hair was forcibly cut and trans men were fondled. The parade was to take place in Munyonyo which is outside the country’s capital of Kampala. Ugandan LGBTI rights activist Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera wrote on Twitter: ‘It is a with a bleeding heart sad news: @Prideuganda2016 postponed as Minister vows to arrest anyone who takes part and equates us to terrorists.’ The parade’s cancellation took place after organizers met with a government official and a human rights lawyer. ‘We decided to suspend it because of the risks to personal safety,’ Frank Mugisha of Sexual Minorities Uganda tells BuzzFeed News. ‘The minister threatened to mobilize a mob and a large police group to beat up anyone who shows up for pride tomorrow. We will engage the government next week with a view of holding the pride parade at another date soon.’ Mugisha was among those arrested at the fashion show and on Friday said on Twitter that the Thursday police raid ‘won’t break us but make us strong.’
