Pride season is officially here, and it kicks off with Black Gay Pride during Labor Day Weekend. It’s a weekend full of events and mind-blowing parties that will dominate the nightlife for the entire weekend. And we are here for it!

from the

note

Admittedly, in an ideal world, the pride celebrations would be perfectly integrated, but it is jarringly clear that we are not there yet.

Instead, we should be extremely proud that Atlanta is the home for the biggest I always hear the inevitable question of celebration of black gay pride in the why there even is a separate Black Gay country and possibly the world – because Pride, and why it isn’t integrated with the that is the kind of movement that makes October Atlanta Gay Pride. To me, the a change. Happy Pride! answer is still apparent: Black Gay Pride celebrates equality just like the (mostly Think. Clever. Sexy. Cool. white) mainstream pride, but there is still a need for a movement to discuss issues that are unique to the black LGBTQ community. And that is precisely what Black Gay Pride in Atlanta provides. The Fine Line Between Race and Sexuality By Jeff Dorta/Project Publicity

Winner of the “Best Feature” award at The 2018 Harlem International Film Festival, The Breeding aims to fuel an overdue dialogue on race relations in today’s LGBTQ community.

“It is the unique complexities, largely due to religion and tradition, that fascinate us at Novo Novus and drive our current stories. We imagine it will for some time as there is so much more to explore.” Sadly, real life sometimes imitates art. After production on The Breeding ended, lead actor Marcus Bellamy was arrested, charged with murdering his boyfriend. He is currently awaiting trial. “Never could any of us have imagined that something like this would happen,” says Daniel Armando. “Dane and Marcus went to high school together. Dane introduced Marcus to Manhattan when Marcus first started at Juilliard.” “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for Dane and everyone in the cast, reconciling what our friend has done and sending prayers to the family affected by the tragedy. We’re still piecing it all together and, more than anything, want to send positive love and light to everyone impacted.”

“‘Take a Knee’ and the Black Lives Matter movement continue to rock society, but no one is discussing these issues through an LGBTQ filter,” explains writer Dane Joseph, a gay black male, and co-founder of the innovative production company, Novo Novus Productions. The studio spotlights LGBTQ people of color and their unique stories. Daniel Armando, his co-founder at Novo Novus, a gay Latino male who directed The Breeding, adds, “Our films are about people who look like us and live similar experiences as we do.” The Breeding centers round Thomas (Marcus Bellamy), a young artist whose obsession with BDSM (bondage and discipline, sadism and masochism) leads to life-altering consequences. Executive produced by Dwight Allen O’Neal, the film explores the basic animalistic instincts of humans and how many of us are willing to do regrettable, unimaginable and typically uncharacteristic things in order to fulfill our primal needs. “This film pushes boundaries and embraces controversy as it careens headfirst into its edgy subject matter,” says Richard Ross, Co-President at Breaking Glass Pictures, the company distributing the film. “Director Armando and Writer/Producer Joseph have crafted a compelling erotic thriller that feels both fresh and exciting.” “The idea for The Breeding came from an art piece on Harmen van den Bogaert, a slave master in the pre-Civil War era, accused of sodomy with his slave,” explains Joseph. “The crime was punishable by death, so master and slave fled and later died on the run, falling through a frozen lake. The artist envisioned their plight as a forbidden love story. I felt it to be a problematic interpretation and so I began research on master/slave relationships. It led to my discovering BDSM, where racially charged situations and language are used during cross-cultural sexual encounters. My mind began to wonder how people of color could reconcile that sort of behavior, considering the horrific past from which the practice stems.” He also began to question whether fetishes based on race dehumanize LGBTQ people of color and perpetuate harmful myths such as the black Mandingo. “Sexual identity within the black and Latino communities is a challenging subject to take on,” reflects Dwight Allen O’Neal.

The Best of Beastly Beastly, our sex-positive and knowledgeable columnist, has been serving up great advice and perspective on gay sex and sexuality. So, in this issue we decided to round up some of his best one-liners from columns past – here is the best of Beastly. Why You Should Date An Older Guy Every gay man needs at least one relationship with someone some years his senior — someone with advanced sex skill, more maturity, greater insight, and greater understanding. Nothing is quite as wonderful as daddy’s arms. (Fenuxe 23, 2017) Why You Should Date Someone Younger Older men, there are guys younger than you, guys like me, who think you’re sexy and need to hear what you have to say, what you witnessed, and who’ll love fucking you on the side. You have the sex skill we don’t have. You have the sex stories we don’t have. Guys my age: Don’t think you can daddy hunt forever. Wherever you are in life, there is already a younger crop. They need guides. They need lovers. They need you. There’s no age requirement to be a daddy. (Fenuxe 24, 2017) A Petition To End Tight Holes Regardless if you’re working up to fisting or simply want to enjoy bottoming without pain, you must accept the fact that you won’t have a beginner’s super-tight butt once you hit this goal. And that’s the point. If tops call you “loose,” require you to be “tight,” tell you to clench when they’re fucking you, or turn you down for liking big things in your butt, they’re shaming you for getting good at what you do. In a way, they’re shaming you for your pleasure, your bed prowess. (Fenuxe 25, 2017) Why 2018 Is Your Year Of Bottoming Whether your nervousness is in douching or taking big dicks, power-bottoming or submitting, group sex or solo, you can learn the how-tos and mechanics later. But first, you have to set your mind to the task. You’re going to do this, and it’s

going to take a year. No topping allowed — this is your year of bottoming. (Fenuxe 1, 2018) This Year, Fuck Guys Outside Your Type If you’ve been chasing masculinity, fuck femme guys. Big, go after little. Little, go for big. I know it’s not always easy to just “find a fuck buddy,” but I can assure you that it’s easier than you think it is, easier than you’ve been taught it is. (Fenuxe 2, 2018) It’s Time To Come Out Of the Slut Closet PrEP has taken away the fear of sex that blanketed queer culture in the wake of AIDS, and has for the first time in fifty years given queer men the freedom to reclaim our sex and start enjoying it without fear. Whatever you’re into, there is space for you. We’re carving it out of a world in flux. For those who push the boundaries of what is appropriate, who fight censorship and advocate for their own visibility, there’s no better time to be alive. (Fenuxe 4, 2018) Why Size Doesn’t Really Matter Dick size is only one small part of the “size obsession” that queer men have, and it’s damaging on many levels: muscle size, butt size, arm size, skinny size, and more. Think about how all these size obsessions create unhealthy lifestyles and unhealthy perspectives. (Fenuxe 6, 2018) Why You Should Get Jealous When jealousy comes, I talk about it and allow it to be a moment of self-revealing, trust-building confession. It gives him a platform to show love. It gives a way to invite him in. It asks him to take care of me. When I feel jealous, I need some reinforcing, some reminding that you like me because I’m me. (Fenuxe 9, 2018) It’s Never Time To Give Up On Sex First things first: Mentally draw a line at where you are now and cut it. Everything from the past is gone. It’s a past life. The old life is dead. You can’t get it back. The end. (Fenuxe 11, 2018)

Out Actor Jack Tracy Releases Debut Album: Older in New York. “I got spooked into thinking I wasn’t talented enough because I never quite fit in with the thespian crowd, so I made a course correction into a more academic field. ”He became a corporate lawyer in New York, working 80-hour weeks, making lots of money, living in a swank upper west side apartment with his partner, and for all intents and purposes, appearing to live the NYC dream. But at 31, he realized he was not fulfilled and that he couldn’t live the rest of his life that way. So he took everything he learned — business acumen, creative writing, ingenuity — and threw them all into his passion for film and music. “So here I am; better late than never,” he reflects, acknowledging it’s all worked out for the best. “I wouldn’t be as focused and driven as I am now had I done this earlier in my life. I probably would have listened to all the voices telling me ‘no, you can’t do this.’ Today, I’m grown up enough to say, ‘I hear you, but I’m going to do it anyway.’ I get to be myself, say what I want to say and do what I want to do and see if anyone digs it.” His debut album, Older, is 90s pop inspired, featuring heavy dance records, soulful ballads, and quiet storm bedroom jams. The through-line is bass; lots of bass. “The album is not focused on hits or singles, though I think each individual song stands on its own,” he says. “Older is meant to be listened to from track 1 to track 13, in that sequence. It’s an audio show and hopefully someday a stage show.” Photos: Project Publicity

18: August 24, 2018

Fenuxe Music

The first two singles, “Satisfaction” and the title track are out now. Jack wrote, produced and orchestrated all songs on the album. “Every drum line, clap, synth chord… I wrote every melody and harmony, choreographed every dance and edited every video.”

that; if they’re going to do a gay project, we’ll always be the heroes. Hollywood only serves us when it is profitable to serve us, and in a way that is first and foremost driven by what they think we will buy. I have more interest in truth, the beautiful and ugly kinds.”

Growing up, Jack spent a large part of his life learning Janet Jackson dance routines because, of course, he did. He would record them from VH1 on a VHS tape, replay them in his parents’ bedroom where he could point the TV into a mirror (so the dancers were facing the right way) and learn every step. “Miss Jackson is everything. In fact, the entire Older album is constructed from her blueprint because no one can touch Control through All For You. That’s my formula. Madonna queens: fight me.”

In Older, Jack Tracy tackles topics facing 30-something gay men: from fighting in the Trump resistance to the community’s obsession with youth. He sings about fetishes and hookups for validation, however, avoids songs about late nights out at the club, money, or how tonight is the last night. Older is grown folks’ music.

Astute listeners will also catch Aaliyah, Timberland and classic Missy Elliot influences in Older, as well as some references to Prince. All the while, Jack Tracy pays special attention to make sure the music is true to who he is. There is no ambiguity in what gender he is speaking to in his love songs. The album is foremost for the LGBT community, a “by us, for us” project. In addition to his singing and law careers, Jack Tracy is the founder and owner of Necessary Outlet, a film production company that produces LGBT web series including “History,” — a show that stars Tracy as a 30-something gay lawyer, fresh out of a break up and looking to rebuild his life — and “Big Law,” a comedic Office-type show that Tracy makes occasional cameos in. “My goal with all of my projects is to present stories from an LGBT point of view. I explore topics the Hollywood machine would never let me touch: things like the community’s capacity for acceptance as well as intolerance. Our being bullied and being bullies. Our sexuality, vanity, vulnerability, and judgment. I present everything, warts and all. Mainstream won’t serve us

The music video for the title track “Older” shines the spotlight on an interracial gay romance. Jack admits it was intentional. “We don’t see it enough in gay content or, quite frankly, in gay life, so I thought it was important to not just be yet another set of white boyfriend twins. Yawn. I’d like to get to a point in society where an interracial relationship isn’t a ‘thing’ that we note; it’s just incredibly normal.” “I want people to hear Older and think, ‘wow, this is saying some real stuff.’ I want listeners to connect with the point of view—to say ‘oh I’ve been there’ or ‘I’ve definitely felt that’—while dancing along with me. Genuine connection through shared experiences, thoughts and values. Because that connection is the best part of my refocused life—that’s the fulfillment I wasn’t getting before. That’s what’s truly important to me now.” Visit www.jacktracy.lgbt and follow Jack tracy on Twitter @ NecessOutlet and Instagram @ jacktracymusic.

BOOK REVIEW

Y

ou can’t stop your feet.

They need to move, to taptap-tap, to side step, and do-si-do. The music’s on and you gotta move. You can’t help it, your toes gotta go and in “And Then We Danced” by Henry Alford, you take the lead. Think of all the times you danced in your life. Your first was likely some bouncy-toddler thing you did, and the adults around you laughed. Later, you endured embarrassing and awkward boy-girl classes, or school events until you became cool (even if only in your mind) and snuck into clubs. You’ve danced at weddings, for fun, for joy; and Alford has danced for work. He’s a journalist who immerses himself in his subject in order to write about it but, in the case of dance, he’s been immersed his whole life. Dance, he says, is a “universal language.” If you suddenly found yourself in Siberia and you began dancing, nobody would mistake what you were doing. It’s an art, yes – but it’s so much more. Dance, he says, is a way of “Social Entrée.” Cotillions and debutante balls are good examples, dancing in a club falls into this category, and if you ever took classes from an Arthur Murray studio, you get the picture.

> CREDIT | Author: Henry Alford >“And Then We Danced: A Voyage into the Groove”

Politics can step onto the dance floor, Alford says. Think about your favorite candidate on the campaign trail, dancing with potential constituents. Or think of the Cakewalk, a dance that was “Originally devised as a way for slaves to mock their masters…” Teenagers know that dance can be a form of rebellion; icons such as Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham knew that, too. Dance can be a form of emotional

release, happy, sad, or angry, and it can involve one’s entire body, almost without thought. Any good church choir can tell you that dance is spiritual. With the right group, it can bring on feelings of nostalgia. And dance, if you need it, can be healing. There’re a few pleasant little surprises to this book about moving your body: it’s also author Henry Alford’s memoir, and it’s a series of mini-biographies of dancers you may know and admire. And it’s delightful. Part of the reason is that Alford uses his youth as example here: he was a gawky kid who tried very hard to ignore his gayness, an attempt that made junior high boy-girl dances understandably more awkward. His tales are mostly universal (who didn’t hate forced dance class?) and they’ll make you laugh, while anecdotes of researching to write this book – Alford dives into dance, remember – are woven between the life stories of Murray, Duncan, Graham, Savion Glover, Toni Bentley, and other dancers, as well as lighter-side dance history through the ages. Yes, there are “Awww, naw” moments along here with the Nae Nae, but the joy in this book supersedes any sadness. All in all, it’s a quickstepper, and for a hoofer, ballet lover, line dancer, or anyone who shimmies and bops, “And Then We Danced” will have you on your feet.

Why Is There Even a BLACK Gay Pride? Black Gay Pride movements began as a way to provide black LGBT people an alternative to the largely white mainstream LGBT movement and serves as a way for black LGBT people to discuss the specific issues that are unique to the black LGBT community like medicine and homophobia in their communities. There are currently over 25 Black Gay Pride events all over the United States; the largest are D.C. Black Pride, At the Beach Los Angeles, and Atlanta Black Pride.

Hey Girl Hey! Holler Poodles! Being the quintessential queen of politeness, I was recently asked some questions about decorum - and how to handle awkward situations. Is it ok to pass gas in public? No, but it’s a lot better than pooping on yourself. If you’re sitting down, I recommend leaning slightly over to one side and grabbing a butt cheek and pulling it as far apart from the other cheek as possible to create the least amount of resistance. There should be no sound as you let the gas out but if a sound is produced, a quick clearing of the throat should provide cover. If you are standing up, I recommend bending over to “tie your shoe” or “wipe” away some dirt off your shoe so as to separate your cheeks as much as possible. Next is dealing with the putrid smell that is inevitably gonna smack someone in the face with its hang time. If you can’t retreat from the scene of the crime fast enough, I recommend looking directly at the person closest to you and with the most accusing of facial expressions, yell out “Oh My God” and then walk away shaking your head. Problem solved! What if someone does this to you? You have to be prepared for your response ahead of time. I usually say something like “Bitch, don’t even try it--I saw your dress fly up when you cut that cheese and now there’s a stain where your butthole used to be!” Though you may not remain friends afterwards, your good name has been preserved. What if you pass gas on the elevator? Always be prepared with your response. Cover your face with your shirt or blouse and act like you just smelled the worst thing ever (after all it is hot air being blown over poop) and as you’re getting off the elevator state “I can’t believe someone would do that!” If you notice, most people who fart don’t have a problem with the smell so they’ll just assume you weren’t the guilty party. Fart away my lovelies! Love and lashes
