OF A MAN Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Grooming Director Ever had a beautiful stranger walk past you leaving a subtle trail of fragrance and you found yourself attracted to their scent? A great cologne is a perfect way to underline your masculinity without forcing it upon your surroundings. Rather, it can encourage others to lean in a little closer into your personal space. After all, nothing beats the scent of a man‌
Charlie Harding wears Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue For Men It isn't the initial burst of citrus freshness that keeps you coming back to this fragrance. It’s the deeper and more mysterious notes of wood and spice that linger on your skin. Light Blue is subtly masculine and sophisticated and never loses its underlying sensuality.

PLANNER D. David Kinney
(404) 729-0640 | revdawn.com Don’t forget about one of the largest details when planning your big day—who will officiate the wedding? Reverend Dawn Smith was ordained by The New Seminary and officiates weddings and other ceremonies in the Atlanta metropolitan area. She specializes in helping couples plan their ceremony and can even provide premarital counseling. We’re not breaking any news here… gay marriages performed in Georgia aren’t recognized by the state. However, if that law changes Rev. Dawn has a plan. “I believe in honoring true love in all its facets. If I perform your commitment ceremony in the State of Georgia and [same-sex marriage is] legalized in the state, I will perform your legal ceremony at no additional cost,” Rev. Dawn explains on her website.

Fighting For Fashion
Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Fashion Director
Atlanta has been rooting for our hometown designer Nicholas Komor all season on Lifetime’s “Project Runway: Under the Gunn” hosted by Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn. Clearly, fashion runs through Nicholas’ veins. But this talented Atlanta designer and Georgia Tech graduate has many different creative endeavors under his belt. FENUXE caught up with Nicholas to talk about his journey to becoming a full-fledged designer. Images Courtesy of Nicholas Komor and Lifetime Entertainment
24 : February 27, 2014
It’s a chilly afternoon in Atlanta’s Virginia Highlands neighborhood when I meet with nicholas Komor in cacao, a small but fine chocolate specialty shop. It’s the very shop where he put his own mark on pretty much everything as their former creative director. “Kristen [Hard, the founder, ed.] is a friend and she needed a ton of help with packaging. everything looked very different just a year ago,” nicholas tells me over a cup of delicious mocha, “I single-handedly was doing everything to change it all.” Part of the successful transformation of cacao was also nicholas’ ability to bring big business thinking to a small business – something he has learned as a Design manager at coca-cola. While working at Atlanta’s soda favorite created visual identity systems for popular brands like coca-cola and Sprite. However, despite his talent for creating corporate visual identities, nicholas’ heart beats for fashion. “I was just really interested in getting back into fashion,” nicholas says with “getting back” being the key phrase.
nicholas started out here in Atlanta at Georgia tech where he graduated with a degree in industrial design. While studying his interest in fabrics grew and he explored how they function differently. for instance, conductive thread that would allow your clothing to interact with your computer in a more intuitive way. With Georgia tech stoking his passion for fabrics and fashion nicholas moved to london where he enrolled in the london college of fashion. “I studied fashion and then worked on Savile row for a while. not sewing but interfacing with the customers, and through that I was getting the idea and taste for luxury,” nicholas explains, “And that’s the world I love: luxury clothing, design, chocolate, bags – luxury things!” After his time in london and subsequent return to Atlanta, nicholas found his way back to fashion when he landed a spot on “Project runway: under the Gunn.” the show is hosted by Project runway mentor tim Gunn and it’s quite different from the original. the challenges are shorter and the contestants are indeed under the gun from the very start. After receiving brief instructions the contestants have to create an actual piece that is fitted and ready for the runway. “After going through a whole casting process, I basically shut down my life and went to l.A. to be on the show,” nicholas says about his participation on the lifetime show. “It’s very interesting working under these challenges, where you have to come up with something really fast. you have six hours and that is really all you get. Imagine conceiving something, trying to make out if you have something right and then cutting, sewing and making a final piece, which needs to be fitted to be on the runway in only six hours. It is really, really challenging and you’ll hear me on the show saying after every challenge: “I wish I had more time!” nicholas’ unique background also makes the competition a little more challenging. He describes his own process as european, which he attributes to his schooling in london. It’s more cerebral and focuses on taking the brief to heart and really making something out of it – something that is practically the opposite of what the tV show calls for. But, so far, nicholas Komor has cleared all of the challenges on “under the Gunn” so he must be doing something right. maybe it’s his ability to start at the beginning, to have a blank slate before each process, which is a creative release the show celebrates. Photographer: Adrian Lourie Model: Fannar Sveinn Gudmundsson
“I’m curious now, when America starts watching, [to see] if the viewers want
more women’s wear from nicholas Komor when the show is over. I have no idea”, the designer ponders aloud about his future plans. His goal is to create an all encompassing brand focused on fashion. But for starters he is directing his attention toward creating a nicholas Komor bag – a black luxury unisex tote bag in mixed materials. creating a quality bag is a good place to start for nicholas. focusing at first on this piece will allow him to control the process and ensure the final product meets his standards. this will remain important as there are several people helping him with the details of taking it to market. for instance, he is collaborating with a colleague who graduated from college with him that specializes in leather accessories. “the bag starts with a Kickstarter to raise necessary funds to produce it and it will either be a success or a failure. the Kickstarter project will be up in the coming months”, nicholas explains about the bag that will proudly bear his name one day. eager to know what he is planning to do after the bag goes into production? He’s also working on a golden bee pin that is inspired by the vintage pin he wears everywhere he goes. either way, nicholas is starting out sensibly on his journey toward making it big some day. He’s testing the waters without getting burnt financially along the way. “I’ve learned that you can’t just invest all your money and put out an entire collection with no marketing strategy. I don’t know how some of the other designers coming off the show are doing it,” nicholas explains. “What I’ve learned – mainly from coca-cola but also from ‘under the Gunn’ – is how to take all the design and theory and then apply a business strategy to it in order to make it work. So you know what your work is worth. that will also help you to be able to explain to people why what you do will change their life in some way. And why they should buy it,” nicholas says as we finish our drinks cacao. FENUXE wishes Nicholas Komor all the best of luck! We’ll be looking out for his upcoming Kickstarter project and watching the Atlanta resident compete alongside other design talents on “Project Runway: Under The Gun” Thursdays at 9 p.m on Lifetime.

PISCES [FEb. 19 – MAR. 20]
Time to spruce up, doll up, change your tune, your hair, your smile, your whistle, LOSE that NASTY harsh lipstick you have been overdoing, girlfriend! Get yourself out walking every day, and see if you don’t see somethin’ purty and fine on the 6th.
after dark
CANCER [JUN. 21 – JUL. 22]
Hard to let go of bygones? Then create some new-gones, as in “We have chosen to go away for our nuptials and don’t care to be bothered by your unsupportive presence.” You may find that the gifts you receive are not the ones you’d specified, but in the end, who cares? Live and let live on the 6th.
ARIES
[MAR. 21 – APR. 19] The part of cleaning that really draws you in is the part when it is over. The same with your wedding. Face it, sweets, you’re only in it for the Honeymoon. Every Single Time. Dare to stick around this time, even if it is not your wedding. The 8th is a day to tarry. Take a deep breath and look around.
Taurus [APR. 20 – MAy 20] Toe schmaltz is just not attractive. Lose the fur, both on you and stampeding around you in little fluffy bits under foot. If you want to set the date, go for it. The 1st is a very auspicious moment for all three of you.
GemIni [MAy 21 – JUN. 22] Make it an outdoor event and have your honey help you hoe and pluck and shovel to spruce up that Oasis you have created. Who knows, the look of you standing there, uncharacteristically clad in mud-caked, poorly fitting work clothes might inspire you both to take the next step. Cover your tracks on the 7th.
40 : February 27, 2014
LEO [JUL. 23 – AUg. 22] Confound it, you have reached the point where your lair is no longer offering you the solace you seek: Everything is pell-mell, and your systematic ways are not doing their job. Call a service. Let them do the floorboards, the cabinets, the filing. Anything that needs doing right now, outsource it. It is not laziness, it is germination. You have some loving to catch up on. The 2nd should be a very fruitful day for make-up “work.”
virgo
[AUg. 23 – SEPT. 22] Go solo, go with a group, but on the 2nd you really do need to go. There is no place like home, but that is the point. Make new discoveries, clear the cobwebs from your eyes, get all sparkly, run till you are out of breath, wander somewhere you’ve never been before. Relax into Spring.
Capricorn [dEC. 22 – JAN. 19]
libra [SEPT. 23 – OCT. 22] It is not what you had been expecting at all, I dare say! So, doll baby, this is the time for you to be the leader, to clarify, declutter, polish, and attend to your beloved. Beloveds don’t do well just being stashed into a crowded broom closet waiting for you to find time for them. Attend to your love on the 3rd.
Catapulting, cavorting, and curtsying are all in store for you in these frillier, festive days to come! You have much to celebrate! Don’t neglect your tidying and taking care of the mundane in your haste to get to the ball. The option of finding an optimal balance between hard work and relaxation becomes much easier for you starting on the 3rd.

[OCT. 23 – NOV. 22] Begone. That’s what they said, but it is not what they really expect. Your choice, take them at their word--IF it suits you, or continue, but let it be a considered choice on your part. If you do not care to continue, now is a very fortuitous time to depart. On the 28th, clarity will prevail.
[JAN. 20 – FEb. 18] Goin’ to the chapel, and I’m gonna....clean that sucker from top to bottom. All of it. Every last niche & granny. Yup. Her, too. Especially since she wants to come with us. Trust your heart on the 29th. I guess you might have to take a rain check.

[NOV. 23 – dEC. 21] It is nice to settle in to your known routine, to polish, starch and scrub. Oh, but some things just cannot be scrubbed away, as in the Scottish play, they remain, clear as the light cutting through your sparkling panes. Let the cleansing and purification be of an internal nature--the strength, clarity and joy you are seeking are all there, you are now able to embrace them. Tread lightly on the 5th lest you fall....

Holler Poodles!! I just want to take a moment to say thank you to all of my friends, family, and fans who came out to support all of the Valentine’s Day shows at Paris on Ponce. Your support made the event an overwhelming success and I couldn’t be happier with the result. It was so good to work with Alicia Kelly, Raquell Lord, Maya Montana, Mariah Balenciaga, Envy Van Michaels, Angelica D’Paige, Smokin McQueen and Coco Couture. We all had a great time entertaining you! Thanks also to all the people behind the scenes who made the show possible.
And now for my makeup tip/trick sponsored by Atlanta Costume. Every drag queen and glam girl wants a little sparkle in their life. With Ultra Bright Powder you can have as much or as little as you like. Ultra Bright Powder feels feather light and sparkles like miniature diamonds. Stunning applied dry on bare skin, over makeup, or blended with our Sealers for a durable, high gloss finish. It is a colorless sparkle powder which can be used on its own or on top of a matte color to give any makeup a highly reflective sparkle. It’s also finer than glitter but more reflective. Sticks nicely to the skin but washes off easier than glitter. I’ve used this myself and under lights it sparkles like Swarovski crystals. Clint from Atlanta Costume used it when he played Pharaoh in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” last summer. He used it on top of Aztec Gold Lux Powder and says “I looked like a disco ball.” Every drag queen or club kid should have this in their makeup kit.

From the author of The Statue of Pan
Ken anderson “The sea was singing the same lullaby for them that it had sung for the lovers in the fresco in the Tomb of the Diver.” Four tourists meet in Italy and decide to travel together. Tyler is a bisexual writer with terrible secrets. Josh is a young architecture student grief-stricken over a man who went back to his wife. Phil and Billie are an older straight couple who bond with Josh because their son had the same name. The four form a real, emotionally strong family, and at dinner one night, Tyler says, “I’ve had such bad luck with women, maybe I should try men.” “If you’re going to try men,” Josh responds, “try me,” the beginning of an impulsive romance. Follow the four as they tour not only the sights of southern Italy, but also the museums and ruins of their own interior landscapes.

FIREFLY PORTABLE
VAPORIZER You’ve scrimped and saved for months so that your dream wedding will be everything you’ve ever imagined. From the reception linens to the bridal gown or tuxedo, you’ve spared no expense and everything is turning out to be magical. So why would you sneak behind the venue before the Wedding March and smoke a cigarette? That beautiful gown or sharp tuxedo will still look great, but you’re going to smell like an ashtray. A piece of gum or mouthwash won’t cut it when you’ve got an entire wedding party to greet. Plan ahead and bring the Firefly Portable Vaporizer with you on your big day. This dynamic convection vaporizer runs off of a rechargeable battery and heats up faster than any other portable vaporizer on the market. Simply put your tobacco inside the vaporizer and press the button on the side of the unit. It will reach optimal temperature in approximately eight seconds turning the nicotine in the tobacco into a light vapor you inhale.
Vaporizers (or E-cigarettes) have become incredibly popular recently. Whether you’re looking for a healthier alternative to smoking or want the convenience of being able to consume tobacco indoors, the Firefly is the Rolls Royce of portable vaporizers. Its large battery (which contributes to the somewhat hefty weight of the device) is definitely strong enough to last throughout your wedding ceremony and reception. Firefly says that “a fully-charged battery can deliver up to 50 instant inhalations in a row.” Additionally, unlike some E-cigarettes, there are no extra nicotine cartridges or liquids that you have to continually buy. The Firefly only accommodates loose-leaf tobacco. This also allows you to have greater control over what you’re consuming. There aren’t any healthy forms of tobacco, but if you’re buying high-grade loose-leaf tobacco you can avoid many of the additives in store bought cigarettes.
