Orchid Impressions D. David Kinney

Orchids are hard to miss. Their intoxicatingly sweet fragrance lures you in as their bold colors deftly seize your attention. They’re showstoppers and they know it. Neglect their needs and their striking beauty will quickly wither and fade. Nowhere in Atlanta will you find a greater collection of orchids in full bloom than at Atlanta Botanical Garden’s annual Orchid Daze exhibition. It is open now and runs until April 13. This year’s design is entitled “Lasting Impressions” and features botanical interpretations of three famous landscapes from Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Paul Gauguin. “This is the second of three shows that we’re doing based on an artistic movement,” Fuqua Orchid Center Manager, Becky Brinkman, tells FENUXE, “Last year’s show was based on the surrealist artistic movement and this year we’re doing impressionism.” The exhibit is designed by Tres Fromme of 3 Fromme Design, LLC. His creative team has designed the annual Orchid Daze exhibit since 2007. The self-guided tour begins in the conservatory lobby where guests meet the first impressionist painter to be interpreted using orchids. “The conservatory lobby takes its inspiration from Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night,’” Brinkman explains. Fromme incorporates recognizable elements from Van Gogh’s painting to quickly transport you into the middle of the famous evening landscape. “You’ll see all sorts of different references to his iconic elements,” Brinkman

14 : March 27, 2014

says, “There are the big scrolls over head, the swirling graphics on the side of the plant beds, indigo blue and gold colors. In the plant material you’ll see orchids that are yellow, orange and red that pick up the earth tones in his work.” Fromme’s interpretation of Van Gogh is decidedly more literal than his interpretations of Monet and Gauguin. As you enter the Orchid Atrium it becomes clear that Monet’s “Water-Lily Pond” is just a stone’s throw away. However, up close the exhibit reveals a deconstructed and creatively reinterpreted landscape. There are no water lilies and there is no bridge either. Two tranquil ponds sit parallel with faux lily pads made from tight clusters of pink, lilac and salmon pansy orchids. What looks like a bridge when you first enter turns out to be merely railings suspended from above. It’s a clever design that effectively conveys the emotions Monet put on canvas.

Turn away from Monet’s famous landscape and you’ll discover a series of large moth orchids in a beautiful deep shade of purple. Follow them as they guide you away from the peaceful Monet exhibit and prepare you for the visual feast of color waiting just inside the next door.

{

In fact, he located the person who had purchased the painting and he bought it back before leaving Europe to settle down in French Polynesia.

Next, Fromme transports us to Tahiti for Gauguin’s “Arearea” with vibrant bursts of fiery orange masdevallias and tropical yellow nun’s orchids. Gauguin first visited the South Pacific in 1891 where he marveled at the bright colors of the island. It inspired him to paint Tahitian landscapes and he created several works of art that he showed in Paris two years later. The work wasn’t well received, however, Gauguin considered “Arearea” to be one of his best paintings.

In addition to the artwork’s spirited coloring, it also famously depicts two seated women and a red dog. Fromme pluckes the two iconic images directly from the painting and graphically incorporates them into the floral exhibit. They’re carefully placed elements that help immerse guests in the atmosphere that Gauguin was so eager to recreate and share. With scores of different orchids in every size and color imaginable it seems only

natural that you’ll want to bring your favorites home. Luckily, the Atlanta Botanical Garden realizes this and they’ve planned ahead. “A lot of the orchids that people see on exhibit will be on sale at the end of the show,” Brinkman adds, “We have a gently used plant sale which has become a tradition. It’s going to be right after the show breaks down April 16, 17 and 18. So all of the orchids will be for sale at good prices—far less than what you would pay at a retail store in town.” For more information and tickets to Atlanta Botanical Garden’s “Orchid Daze: Lasting Impressions” visit atlantabotanicalgarden.org.

Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Gently Used Plant Sale Orchids are a great way to add a pop of color to your home or office. However, they’re one of the largest families of flowering plants out there with over 20,000 different species. If you’re looking for a beautiful orchid that is easy to take care of we suggest the following three orchids:

Hearts Spring FUll OF

D. David Kinney

Winter has come and gone, which means it’s time for warm weather, patio hangouts with friends and Joining Hearts’ annual Change of the Season Tea Dance! The party starts on Sunday, April 6 at 4 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. at the Loews Atlanta Hotel in Midtown. If you haven’t experienced a tea dance at the Loews’ incredible rooftop terrace you’re in for a treat. Soak in the warm Georgia sun with your favorite cocktail and enjoy the great view from the terrace. “We’re going to have great beats by DJ Corey David, dancing, interactive components and lots of fun activities for all the guests to enjoy,” Joining Hearts’ Director of Marketing, Jerry Henderson, tells FENUXE, “Come out and see for yourself!” A tea dance is always a great time. But when you add in the beautiful Loews rooftop and the Midtown location you’ve got a stellar event. “The heart of Midtown location means Change of Seasons can be part of everyone's ‘Sunday Funday,’” Henderson notes. Want to meet your friends from some brunch before hitting the dance floor? Why not? There are lots of great gay places to nosh nearby and you can make an entire day of it. Joining Hearts is an all-volunteer nonprofit that raises awareness and funds to provide housing support for people living with HIV and AIDS in Atlanta. “This event is important to Joining Hearts because it is one of our strong core events that we produce throughout the year that raises a significant amount of money for our three beneficiaries,” Henderson explains, “This event generates vital funds that are then donated directly to AID Atlanta, Jerusalem House and The Living Room to provide housing needs for the clients.” Many Atlantans are familiar with Joining Hearts’ mega pool party each summer. However, the organization’s other events are always just as fun. “This event is a small preview of what's to come over the next 6 months,” Henderson says, “Spring is here and summer is fast approaching. This event brings in the energy of a different beat that we carry with us throughout the rest of the year. It's our pep rally, so to speak, of what's to come. Get Ready!”

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For more information and to purchase tickets visit joininghearts.org.

Penthouse

Perfect Atop the Midtown boutique condo named The Luxe, right by Piedmont Park, lives Ric Parrish and Matthew Quinn in one of the building’s three penthouses. When you step into the condo, you're immediately wow'ed by the incredible view over most of Midtown and Piedmont Park. Next, you're taken aback by the wonderfully decorated space that Matthew and Ric initially came across by coincidence. They were out condo shopping with a friend and The Luxe was in the final stages of construction when the couple asked to see the penthouse on a whim. The same whim had them fall in love with the view and the outdoor spaces, because the apartment itself was a mere shell. The couple owns the business Design Galleria Kitchen & Bath Studio so naturally they had extensive knowledge when it came to decorating the condo's interior. The entire footprint was planned from scratch, which basically meant that the only elements untouched were the perimeter walls, the windows and the concrete floors – everything else has been designed or altered by the talented couple. Friend and designer Bill Stewart was a huge inspiration in laying out the condo’s living space. The couple wanted the design to flow with how they live while creating a simplistic yet cozy living

environment. Apart from opening the space up from one end to the other, the penthouse features numerous clever and hidden storage solutions scattered throughout. For example, the kitchen is highly functional for its small space and packs more appliances than kitchens twice its size. Plus, it achieves this without disrupting the overall clean layout. The kitchen, as well as both bathrooms and the powder room, is completely custom-made by the couple themselves showcasing their incredible design capabilities. But even more so, it is because they designed

their home as the perfect backdrop for their lives that the condo works so well. It’s ideal for their milestones and their wonderfully mundane moments, too. Because after a hard day's work or after a long trip, home is where you should be able to breathe your deepest sigh of contentment. For more inspiration go to designgalleria.net

Vibes

This white house sits beautifully on a large corner property in the Morningside area. Like a jewelry box it looks handsome from the outside, but it isn't until you open it up that you see its true gems. Hair stylist and photographer Richie Arpino and fiancÊ Mitchell Anderson, who is the owner of Metrofresh and an actor, fell for the mid century vibe of this house even though it was pretty run-down when they bought it. After a year of extensive renovations and capable decorating by Richie Arpino himself, the couple moved into their new house. It’s now a beautiful home inspired by Dwell magazines and Frank Lloyd Wright. A favorite feature of the house is the dining room, which connects directly to the living room where a black grand piano takes center stage. From this wonderful spot Richie enjoys entertaining guests 22 : March 27, 2014

with his musical talents. Another beloved element is the kitchen, which was designed for 'hottie hubby chef Mitchell' so he has plenty of room to cook. It’s also a space where guests have room to enjoy his culinary delights. The couple have lovingly personalized their home with their collection of signed guitars, their original Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Richie Arpino & Mitchell Anderson

chairs and the dining room table made of tiger wood. Richie and Mitchell have been together for 17 years and have lived in this Morningside house for the past nine years. With this much love in their home it is no wonder that they’ve decided to get married in the house and yard next spring.

Living OTP It was the sprawling open features that first drew Anthony Morris, an Atlanta lawyer, to his house in Sandy Springs – a welcome change from the much smaller bungalow he previously owned in Virginia Highlands. The house was a foreclosure so it was missing all of the bare necessities like lights, appliances and even floors in some of the rooms. However, it was a welcome opportunity for Anthony to add a fifth bathroom, laundry room, media room and a garage bringing the house to an impressive

6,500 square feet. With the help of all his foodie friends, he also expanded and designed a state-of-the-art kitchen that is perfect for cooking and entertaining. It thrills Anthony’s hidden gourmet soul and makes it evident why this gorgeous kitchen has become his favorite room in the house. One of his other favorite rooms is the laundry room where he derives a self-expressed 'strange pleasure' in the ability to do two loads of wash at the same time.

there are some incredibly passionate and knowledgeable gardeners working the soil in many of Atlanta’s community gardens. If you’re a seed-to-harvest novice this is a great place to learn from seasoned gardeners. In fact, some community gardens regularly schedule outdoor classes where you can learn everything from how to pick and dry hydrangea blooms to using ladybugs instead of pesticides. A few gardens even serve as vital educational tools for nearby schools. the coretta Scott King young Women’s leadership Academy sits near A.D. Williams Park and students are active in its community garden. teachers bring their biology, physical science and environmental science students into the garden to tend special plots reserved for the school. this hands on learning makes natural science a lot more interesting for students. In return, the school provides compost for the garden.

ATLANTa D. David Kinney

hether you’re planting a beautiful garden of flowers or sowing vegetables to harvest later this summer, gardening is a rewarding hobby. However, it isn’t always easy to do when you live in a large city. If you live in a house in the metro area you may have enough room for a small garden, but where can urbanites who live in apartments and condos flex their green thumb? try your local community garden. In 2007 the city of Atlanta approved legislation that allowed for community gardens to be built inside public parks. Since then 20 gardens have been created by interested local residents. the program is overseen by Park Pride, a local nonprofit organization. If you’re interested in getting some seeds planted and joining a community garden, the first step is to contact Park Pride’s Director of community Building, Ayanna Williams (404564-7963 ayanna@parkpride.org). Ayanna will help you get in touch with your local garden manager. If your local garden has available plots you can simply sign up and get started. However, some parks are more popular than others and may already have a waiting list. If so, the garden manager can help you get on your park’s waiting list. you may already be dashing toward Piedmont Park to start planting radishes and rutabagas but hold up. not so fast. there is no community garden at the popular park. If there isn’t a community garden at your favorite park don’t lose hope. you can find some like-minded neighbors and create one. Park Pride requires that you find a sunny location in a public park that doesn’t interfere with existing features like ball fields. After you’ve got community interest and a spot picked out, submit an application with the Atlanta office of Parks. they will also require you to pay a $250 restoration bond. Park Pride will gladly help you with the application process and they can also help with designing the future garden. Are you and your gardening friends going to create several individual plots or do you want a larger communal gardening area? the choice is part of the fun and allows interested gardeners to leave their footprint in the dirt of Atlanta’s public parks. 28 : March 27, 2014

community gardens in public parks are an incredible way to learn about and commune with nature without having to leave your neighborhood. However, urban gardening isn’t just restricted to public parks. you’ll find gardens in some of the strangest places in Atlanta. looking for some fresh sweet basil and honey? check the rooftop of the Hyatt regency Atlanta hotel. Growing on the roof in raised aerial beds are scores of vegetables and herbs. there are also thousands of honeybees living in two hives on the roof of the hotel. the bees pollinate the produce growing nearby and produce honey. Both are used by the hotel’s executive chef, martin Pfefferkorn, downstairs in his kitchen. Pfefferkorn is hands on in the garden and even takes on the role of beekeeper. ready to get started? there are hundreds of great gardens all over Atlanta that are eager to welcome a new crop of plant enthusiasts this season. But even if you live outside of Atlanta the urban gardening movement is strong throughout our region. odds are there is a community garden near you whether you live in norcross or college Park. If you live near Decatur and want to start gardening you’re definitely in luck. Decatur has the largest concentration of gardens in the metro Atlanta area. So pick out some seeds and get sowing. you may find out you’ve had a green thumb all this time and never knew it.

GARDENING RAISED

Michael Taylor, Landscape Designer

Gardening in containers is a great way to bring seasonal color to your balcony in the middle of the city. But even though you don't have an entire yard, you still have to properly maintain your garden. Container gardening adds interest and softens hard surfaces bringing beauty to almost any environment. Most of my clients keep color in their garden year round, either in annual beds and or some type of container. Whether you have three or 35 decorative containers or pots at your house, they all need maintenance and to be repotted at least annually. There are lots of gardening magazines and other publications you can find to use with your projects. Don't be afraid to experiment with the design. Choosing the right containers and plants is the toughest part. Consider consulting with a garden designer who can help with this part of the process. Large containers in the right space are great for many reasons. They do not dry out as quickly

as asmaller containers, you can choose the centerpiece and plan to keep it in the container for several years and simply replace the annual color around it seasonally. Overall, large containers are much easier to maintain and to grow plants in. Also, carefully consider the soil that you use for planting. Many professionally produced soils and mixes include moisture pellets that help maintain proper hydration between waterings as well as slow release fertilizers that extend the plants nutrients for up to six months. Slow release fertilizer are temperature based and will release faster with warmer weather. Toward the end of summer try adding liquid fertilizers every 2 to 3 weeks. This will help guarantee color from your annual plants. Additionally, adding a coarse non-soil material first like pea gravel or pine bark (which is much lighter) helps prevent plants from drowning if you overwater. This also provides a method to help plant roots breathe as they grow deeper.

In order to enjoy your little urban garden all year round you should consider these basic guidelines: Choose the right size, shape, and color container for the space you plan to place it in. Choose plants that will grow well in the light conditions you have. Consider texture, as well as size and plant color for the containers and plan how they will look 2-3 months later.

The next step is to create a good plan for how your containers and pots are displayed.A good model for planning containers is: Choose a centerpiece that’s tall and evergreen Go for bedding plants that complement each other in size and color A trailing or vine type plant adds a great touch if you have space for it If planning more than one container use odd numbers like 3 to 5 containers Design all your containers is if they were one to give them a coherent look

30 : March 27, 2014

Shade or sun, planting containers add a special touch to any home. You can see some of the containers I’ve done on my facebook page at facebook.com/MTaylorLandscape

Taurus [ApR. 20 – MAy 20] In your element now, sowing the seeds of change in your own steady way. Take them, pour them into a feed bag, shake them up and plant away. Let yourself be surprised--hold a salon and let your guests be mesmerized by Naja’s readings. You will always find a way to carefully tend those who find themselves in the wrong place, nurturing them with just what they need. Do the same for yourself on the 3rd. Water, darling, NOT vodka, for reliable hydration on a hot day!

GemIni [MAy 21 – JUN. 22] Sparkling verandas, newly minted pool decorations, a completely refreshed and refurbished wicker to nestle your fanny in real snug, some adorable floaties (you are partial to the ring-shaped one that looks like the open gullet of a shark. Watch out where you sit on the 10th, and make sure you read the signs for your next big celebration. The 3rd will see you catching beguiled glances.

CANCER [JUN. 21 – JUL. 22] Dance it up, Moon Child! You find the energy you possess is flooding back, and you can’t sit still. Your ability to succinctly end projects, ideas, setting limits and fulfilling your obligations with poise, heart and calm, continues, and extends to your garden and settee. Friends marvel at what you have done. They marvel, too, at the stunning and memorable event you throw for them. The 28th, honey, ohhh the 28th--a great and good surprise will knock your socks off! Plenitude and abundance chase you.

LEO [JUL. 23 – AUg. 22] You lick your wounds, you lead with courage and softness, you pad about in your lair, seeking cozy comfort and rest. The sun seems too harsh, but the late afternoons after the rains with a book, a cup of tea, a Drambuie on the rocks with a hefty supply of mosquito repellent prove excellent for helping you find your soft spot. Your ability to read other people’s intentions provides the perfect ice-breaker for your upcoming event. Check out the scenery on the 29th in a place you to which you would have never thought of going....

virgo

[AUg. 23 – SEpT. 22] Jump into the tangled weeds, gustily cut yourself some dandelion greens, dress them up with vinaigrette, or turn them to wine if you feel so inclined, but take the young and the sturdy. Invite those you want to thank to a beautiful event that will inspire and everyone renewed insigths. The 1st is a day hat will play itself out as very kindly to you if you turn the other cheek. Twice, if must be.

after dark

libra [SEpT. 23 – OCT. 22]

Confounded confrontations, nesting be darned! Off on the right foot, you have made amends, you have done your homework (you always, always do your homework), you let things go, you try to ride the wave (but how can you let your knowledge of diameter, velocity and sediment NOT be available?). Sunflowers. Starved sunflowers for parched sparrows. Your ability to analyze the situation will save the day when you need to liven up that conference you are organizing. Go to the Gardens, my friend! Let yourself not be led astray on the 9th, as tempted as you may be.

scorpio

[OCT. 23 – NOV. 22] Swoon, then back to the molding, dearie. Remove the old before commencing with new. Let the lover’s lips be entwined. You are so very tempted to skip a step, to just go to your destiny and not have any of the details to deal with. What does that mean? You don’t care a bit about durability, structure, longevity, you want sated desire NOW! The 29th could see you rushing to draw a false conclusion. Your mistrust is not warranted.

SAGITTARIUS

[NOV. 23 – dEC. 21] After a long hiatus, spring has sprung! You are more than miffed to note that suddenly, absolutely, you would rather be outdoors than in. Have a moonlit garden party to welcome the new season. Time to rid yourself of rust, slap on new coats of paint, peel out of your winter duds, and get a little glow on, girl! Your most auspicious days are the 3rd and 4th. Remember, do unto others....

Capricorn [dEC. 22 – JAN. 19] Chance meeting, you hear good news. You realize that throwing a bash for your friends and buddies is the time to catch some rays, but get yourself a trowel and a bag of potting soil before you begin. You need to let those around you sink or swim on their own. Stop taking responsibility for everyone and everything--you are robbing yourself of time where you can pursue your interests, and cheating them of being self-sufficient! Tho’ learned habit, just let it go. Develop your inner sloth! Low and behold, the 4th will be simply and beautifully stunning!

AQUARIUS

[JAN. 20 – FEB. 18] You are turning in circles, really almost as if you had made it to the summit you were climbing and accidentally took a switchback trail and found yourself right back where you started. A good place to begin is with your immediate surroundings. Calmly and clearly change, sort, and weed out those things that trip you up, then tackle your next big project with renewed confidence and expertise. At your next event you will entertain and enlighten your guests. The 31st is the beginning of your new-found clarity.

PISCES

[FEB. 19 – MAR. 20] You have taken action and feel unsure of what you should do, what you should have done, and the ramifications of it all. Don’t worry, but use this time to work on your self, your home, and spend fulfilling time with those you love. Have friends honor you with an awesome party to bring you clarity! The 2nd brings good news.

Holler Poodles!! Holler Poodles... With spring upon us, it’s time to start thinking of our homes and gardens. Many of you probably can imagine the glorious commode labode I live in.. It is a beautiful double-wide-triple-high trailer in the sky. But alas, it was in desperate need of a makeover. All those modern finishes and trendy furnishings are just not for me. I’m a traditionalist all the way. I love classic design. Something that has stood the test of time. That’s right, the 70’s. My impotently immensely wealthy sugar daddy gave me an unlimited budget (not to exceed $500) to refit my beautiful casa de Pitts. I had no choice but to contact famed 70’s designer extraordinaire Mike Brady to design a showplace of a motel model home for a triple “ZZZ” list celebrity as myself. The process has been so frustrating. Gone are the days of going to your local building supply to pick out 70’s inspired amenities. Do you know how hard it is to find wood paneling these days? Do you know how many carpet companies stopped making sculpted avocado green carpet simply because others had “moved” on? Do you know how hard it is to source red and orange melamine countertops? I walk into HomoDepot now and all they have are shiny modern things. It makes me physically so sick I find myself spending more time in the bathroom than shopping for merchandise. Finally, after hours of renovation, my home is complete. I painted my stainless steel appliances a beautiful harvest gold. I took out all the bright kitchen lights and scaled back to one single incandescent bulb so one could appreciate the subtle accents of crocheted rust colored kitchen towels and knickknacks. I’m especially proud of my silk floral arrangements. I also developed a new technique for painting carpet to give it the sculptured feel of the 70s. I took all the cat hair from the sofa and mixed it with some litter and custom matched avocado green paint and voila, an exquisite crunchy new look has been achieved. For you girls on a budget, this is definitely worth your time. Finally, what home would be complete without a victory garden? I’m especially proud of mine. The underpinning of my trailer home is very shady… perfect for growing mushrooms. To the right I have miscellaneous mattresses and box springs which I am composting to enrich the soil. I can tell it is already working because I have a new exotic vine growing from it call “kudzu.” It loves this environment and grows heartily without any effort. If you’d like a clipping, just let me know. Make your house your home!

Love and lashes,

MEP If you have any questions, comments or feedback, please contact me at maryedith99@gmail or on twitter @maryedithpitts.

On Its Best Behaviour SURE, WE KNOW IT'S DIFFICULT TO VENTURE OUTSIDE THE CULINARY BUBBLE OF MIDTOWN. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO THE AREA SURROUNDING NORTH DECATUR ROAD LATELY - ALSO KNOWN AS EMORY VILLAGE - YOU'LL BE THRILLED TO SEE THAT IT HAS BECOME A VERITABLE HODGE PODGE OF COOL HANGOUTS AND GREAT EATERIES. BAD DOG TAQUERIA IS ONE OF THEM. Bad Dog Taqueria has, since its launch in May 2011, been part of a little foodie revolution in the Emory neck of the woods. It attracts not only hungry college kids with their delicious tacos, but also clientele from the neighboring areas of Decatur, Morningside and Virginia Highlands. In just three years what could best be characterized as a food desert has undergone an incredible change. The area now has great food destinations and Bad Dog Taqueria is one of them. They’re serving up international style tacos based on local produce and ingredients.

The name was another aspect that just seemed to make immediate sense; a Toronto friend had previously opened a restaurant called Bad Dog Cafe and when asked about the curious name she simply answered that everybody had experienced a bad dog whether it was male, female or canine. It was that (and the fact many people told her that it was a bad idea to use the word 'bad' in the name) which covinced Tracy that she'd definitely put it on the sign above her new restaurant. Plus, Tracy is a dog owner and the restaurant allows dogs on its patio.

Bad Dog Taqueria got its start after owner Tracy Mitchell decided to quit the real estate business where she'd been building and selling houses for years. Her 'so now what?' perspective at the time re-activated a life-long dream about owning her own restaurant. And things really took form after the Emory Village space became available.

The tongue-in-cheek naming is also something you’ll encounter when opening the menu, too. Who wouldn't go for a ‘I Wanna be a Cowboy (and you can be my Cowgirl!),’ a taco filled with dry-rubbed and grilled chicken breast with Jim Beam BBQ sauce and purple slaw with fresh pineapple? Or the ‘We’ve Got Seoul’ taco with their signature Korean BBQ pork belly? Not to mention the ‘Skinny Bitch,’ a delicious grilled alternative to the fried fish taco (and it is ordered by both men and women). Other delectable fare includes appetizers like homemade chips & salsa, grilled guacamole and Yucca fries with habanero ketchup. For your entree choose from their tasty selection of burritos and the only burger offered in the immediate Emory area.

Her initial concept of a breakfast and lunch place had to be abandoned because the landlord wouldn't allow two similar restaurants to be almost door to door (Rise-n-Dine is on the same street). So, after about about ten minutes of looking over North Decatur Road, Tracy already had the new concept of an international taqueria hashed out. The idea behind Tracy’s new restaurant was to let the taco be the vehicle for the food. From there she sought out original family recipes for the tacos to create the specific authenticity that graces this modernly decorated restaurant.

50 : March 27, 2014

Everything is made from fresh natural ingredients – organic when possible – and almost nothing comes out of a can, box or a bag. Tracy herself oversees the shopping for produce at Dekalb Farmer's Market and they work closely with local farms to get their chicken, pork and beef.

On the sweet side, right now Bad Dog Taqueria is developing its own donuts that are found sporadically on the menu. However, they’ll get their own permanent place soon. Doesn't a Kimchi caramel donut sound great as an alternative to traditional salted caramel? Apart from always developing the menu, Tracy has even bigger plans for Bad Dog Taqueria. Her plans involve a new location on Edgewood right across from the famous bar Church. Bad Dog Taqueria Edgewood is set to open late summer with a full menu. During weekends they will even have a walk-up window where you can get tacos and donuts 24/7. This will be perfect considering there are 15 surrounding bars with hungry patrons leaving every weekend. Before opening up the taqueria in Edgewood, Tracy is going to use the Old Fourth Ward space for a 'hardhat' dinner on April 26. It will be a collaboration with Scoutmob where attendees will enjoy a special five-taco menu and get drinks tickets for Church. The Scoutmob HandPicked deal will go on sale April 4. Other future plans include Tracy flying out to L.A. for a month to help the original owners of The Flying Biscuit open a vegan and glutenfree restaurant in West Hollywood. Additionally, Bad Dog Taqueria is planning to market their incredible hot sauce (whatever you get, order extra hot sauce!). Also, check out their Facebook page for special events. For instance, their monthly Ladies' Night, which is being reintroduced now that the weather is picking up, is always fun. We hear that a Boys' Night is in the making as well – perfect for all kinds of dogs on their best behavior.
