Comfortable In Your Own

UNDERWEAR Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Fashion Director

You may recognize Chris Salvatore from the popular “Eating Out” movie franchise. He’s also a talented recording artist, a gorgeous model and the celebrity Grand Marshal at this year's New Orleans Pride. However, now the multi-talented artist can call himself an underwear designer as well. FENUXE caught up with hottie Chris Salvatore for a quick chat about his briefs. why Underwear? “There is something very sexy about men’s underwear. But we’ve all bought a pair of underwear online or in person, only to be disappointed when we put them on and realize they’re poor quality, and don’t feel or look as good as the pictures we saw. I started noticing how some of the underwear brands were leaning more and more toward trashy promotions and even softcore porn to sell product. It’s not necessarily about the actual garment anymore. I’m assuming that strategy distracts customers from the actual quality of the product they’re producing. I believe that there is a segment of the gay community that appreciates quality and comfort over the sex and sizzle. I wanted to see if I could speak to them with an underwear line of my own. I believe that you need to be comfortable both in your own skin, as well as the underwear you have on! If you’re comfortable, you’ll feel sexy and confident.” what's your favorite style of underwear? “You’re asking if I’m a boxers or briefs guy? I like both, obviously, but personally I’m a briefs guy.” what does your underwear say about you? “I think we all have different shades. Sometimes we may feel a bit randy and sassy so we wear the Randy Red Briefs. Other times we may feel more shy and innocent and would sport the Super Hero Blue Boxers. I don’t think clothes make the man, I believe the man makes the clothes. If you don’t feel comfortable, you won’t feel sexy. Period.” Get your own on chrissalvatoreunderwear.com 12 : April 24, 2014

Lenox Square Mall

1 0 FENUXE 50 2014

Every year

With 1.5 million square feet of retail space, Lenox Square Mall is Atlanta’s premier shopping destination. The mall originally opened its doors on August 3, 1959 and looks incredibly different than it does today. Back then it was an open-air shopping center and featured a bowling alley, indoor golf driving range and a grocery store called Colonial Stores. Now you can find world-class upscale retail and anchor department stores including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s Zara, Diesel, Ralph Lauren and Neiman Marcus.

Out with the old and in with a new do at Bubbles Salon in the Ansley II Shopping Center on Monroe Drive. It’s easy to see why Atlanta loves Bubbles with their super convenient online booking and a wide range of services. Your hair is definitely in the care of skilled hands at Bubbles. A men’s haircut is only $20 and getting the grey out only costs $25. Is your stache in need of a trim? You can get a beard and mustache trim for only eight bucks.

Happy yelps from playing pups at Piedmont Bark explains why it’s a perennial Atlanta favorite. Dogs dig this canine hotspot and the groomers do great work. Your pooch may not find getting groomed to be their favorite outing, but Piedmont Bark goes above and beyond to make sure each pet is cared for and has a good experience. If you’re looking for doggie daycare or boarding (for that Memorial Day weekend trip coming up) they’ve also got you covered.

The news team at Channel 11 has been serving Atlanta since 1951, but they weren’t always WXIA 11 Alive. In fact, they were originally an ABC affiliate and the name 11 Alive didn’t come about until 1976. Today you’ll find Brenda Wood and DeMarco Morgan anchoring the news desk and keeping Atlantans well-informed. They’ve become increasingly more popular over the past few years while they “hold the powerful accountable.”

There’s no other event in Atlanta quite like Atlanta Pride. It’s a week-long celebration of our community and our great city that rivals the best Pride celebrations in the world. Every year the Atlanta Pride Committee continues to up the ante with a bigger and better event. Plus, our annual Pride Parade is one of the oldest in country. This year’s 44th annual Atlanta Pride Festival in Piedmont Park will take place on October 11 and 12. Best Gay Character On TV

We asked which TV show filmed in Georgia was your favorite and “The Walking Dead” won by a country mile. It wasn’t even a contest because Rick, Carl and the always lovable Walkers blew the other shows out of the water. With this many fans no wonder the show is the undead belle of the TV ratings ball. And what’s not to love? There’s more zombiekilling action than you can shake a stick at and it takes place here in our neck of the woods. We only have one bone to pick with the show. There’s no way we can wait until next season to learn what is going to happen at Terminus! Best Music Festival

Even with massive amounts of rain during last year’s Music Midtown, the festival proved that great music will keep Atlantans grooving in Piedmont Park no matter what. The two-day festival features a lineup that spans multiple stages and is always a well-organized and extremely fun event. Just don’t delay in getting your tickets because this major music event is always popular. The 2014 headliners haven’t been announced, however, FENUXE will feature all of the details when they’re released. Grab a cocktail from the bar and enjoy a flick at this great theatre on Monroe Drive in Atlanta. Midtown Art Cinemas has been bringing the movies to Atlanta since 1987 and they’re still pleasing audiences. It may not be as big as the mega theatres OTP, but don’t let its size fool you. In addition to all of the latest Hollywood blockbusters you can also catch a wide range of indie films on their eight screens. They’ve even got DLP digital projection and sound so your movie experience is crystal clear and pitch perfect.

Immigration Law 320 Cherokee Street, Suite C Marietta, GA 30060 www.klinkeimmigration.com tracie@klinkeimmigration.com

DEGREES & EDUCATION Bachelor of Arts in English – University of Kansas (2000) Master of Arts in International Studies – University of Kansas (2002) Juris Doctorate – Georgia State University (2009) AREAS OF EXPERTISE Ms. Klinke’s practice focuses on family and humanitarian immigration law. She has traveled to various USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, formerly “INS”) offices to assist married couples in helping the foreign-born spouse obtain a green card, including seve ral same-sex couples that were approved after the Supreme Court decision in Windsor. She has also presented at conferences arou nd the country regarding immigration options for victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, and other violent crimes. Ms. Klinke is active in the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She has held national and local leadership positions. For the past two years, she has served as Secretary for the non-profit Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network and is also a member of t he Cobb County Domestic Violence Task Force. In 2014, Ms. Klinke was named a Georgia “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers.

IMMIGRATION EQUALITY FOR ALL On June 26, 2013 the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in the landmark Windsor case. Although Windsor was about estate taxes, there were over 1,000 federal benefits that DOMA precluded samesex couples from receiving. For immigration purposes, the impact of the Windsor decision cannot be overstated. There are two basic paths to obtaining lawful permanent residence (a “green card”) – through family relationships or through employment sponsorship. In marriage-based cases, the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident files pape rwork with USCIS, asking that the foreign national be allowed to remain in the United States permanently. Until the demise of DOMA, married same-sex couples could not petition USCIS for immigration benefits, even if the marriage had taken place in a country or state that recognized the legality of their relationship. When the Windsor decision was announced, same-sex couples of mixed nationalities finally had the opportunity to apply for immigration benefits. This meant that couples living abroad could return to the United States together, that couples no longer had to find creative solutions through employment-based immigration to stay together, and that couples who had one partner living in the shadows due to a lack of immigration status finally had the ability to stabilize their status. They were free to live together, to obtain work authorization, and to become lawful permanent residents and eventual U.S. citizens. In o rder to apply for immigration benefits through marriage, the marriage has to be legally valid in the place it took place. Although Georgia does not recognize same-sex marriages, if a couple married in a state or country that does recognize the relationship, then they can still apply with USCIS for lawful permanent residence. Klinke Immigration has worked with many couples who live in Georgia, but married in other locations. Klinke Immigration has helped same-sex couples from around the country and around the world file for immigration benefits. They take great pride in helping all couples achieve their immigration dreams. They have handled cases from Atlanta to Boston to Indonesia. A year ago, these couples would have been told to wait. LITIGATOR TAKES ON INSURANCE COMPANIES I was fortunate to grow up as the son of a Dad who was a Naval Admiral, attorney, and owner of various businesses, and a Mom who was a music teacher and stay-at-home Mom. Always a very close family, my brother, sister and I watched my parents not just ‘talk the talk,’ but ‘walk the walk’ on a daily basis by helping people who were taken advantage of by others, or simply not as educated and blessed, as we were as a family. As my parents said many times by not just their words but by their actions, giving money to others can help change situations, which is good, but giving your time changes hearts, yours and theirs. My parents’ daily example inspired and excited me then, as it does today. Their influence was a huge force in my motivation to work toward the achiement of various goals as I grew to an adult. One of my goals was to become a Trial Attorney/Personal Injury. Through my profession, Through my profession, I often make a real difference in people’s lives when they are seriously hurt and affected through others’ wrong-doing. In 2011, after many years working with three outstanding law firms, I founded the Fry Law Firm. Surprisingly enough, many personal injury firms do not try cases in our courts. Although most claims do settle prior to a trial, the insurance companies know which firms do and do not try cases. We are known throughout Georgia that we do try cases in our courts when in the best interest of our clients. This makes a huge difference upon the resolution of a claim. I get to stand up in our courts and be our client’s voice, without fear or intimidation. For that, I am proud and humbled. When not practicing law, I'm passionate about running, lifting weights, any fitness-related activities, eating healthy stuff and travelling. My Dad and I have taken over fifteen father/son trips, which is always an amazing experience. I'm a beach/ocean fanatic and plan to have a home on the beach one day. I also enjoy being active with my church, Buckhead Church, and have a blast working with various charities through-out the year, with a soft-spot for special needs adults and children, including playing Elf/Bodyguard for Santa at many events during the Christmas season. Last, I have a secret passion for lying in bed for hours on end on week-end mornings with coffee, glasses on, and reading for hours (I subscribe to over ten magazines from finance and fitness to politics and news).

Uber is providing Atlantans a new way to hire a car, and it’s clear from the FENUXE 50 voting results that the service is well-liked. It received over 80 percent of the votes in its category. And why not? The Uber app is very easy to use and UberX costs less than the dirty old cabs that are sketchy and unreliable. FENUXE

Taurus [APR. 20 – MAy 20]

The best you’ve ever had, scintillating, sizzling, and phenomenally satisfying, the fried okra at Marlowe’s makes your Taurean heart sing. You who are not a name-dropper, you live by these crunchies. On the 26th, you should be very careful as to whether the source of your information, i.e. the information itself, is reliable.

GemIni [MAy 21 – JUN. 22] Nothing makes your heart sing like the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Sumptuous, gorgeous, glorious and then there are the flowers.... you never know who you might meet. On the 29th, be sure to look over your shoulder when you feel you are being followed. On the 30th, you will definitely be Followed!

CANCER [JUN. 21 – JUL. 22] Is there anything in the world like a canoe ride on the Chattahoochee with sunscreen, bugspray and thou? Yes. It is when thou doest all the paddling for thy beloved, the slothful Cancerian who has earned this day of repose. Cancerians love ice cream almost as much as they love whipped cream, so be sure to go to the Frosty Caboose in downtown Chamblee to get a split afterwards. Your day has come. Those around you treasure and indulge you to no end. The 3rd is particularly delightful.

LEO [JUL. 23 – AUg. 22] Vegetative static surrounds you. Get up, you sleepy head! You can’t live your entire life in the boudoir, or CAN you? Get up, shake out the sheets, and make a beeline for the Beltline astride a sleek Schwinn. Pedal your heart out, take in the sights, and let yourself revel in the simple elegance of riding the wind. The 6th will bring you a pleasant surprise. A very pleasant surprise.

virgo

[AUg. 23 – SEPT. 22] Come, come, stop moaning already. You can’t win everything, every day, and still play fair and square. You need to book that upcoming party with Naja Elieva, before it is too late in the game. Family will be there to visit before you know it, and what is the perfect way to entertain them and friends? Naja! Watch your tongue on the 4th. Whatever you say could come back to bite you.

libra [SEPT. 23 – OCT. 22] You are just puttering and frittering away your creative juices. Yes, you have been able to successfully delegate, and yes you have been able to abdicate at least partial control of the rei(g)ns of sovereignty, but to what end? To watch, wistfully, as others take on your burdens? To shudder at the mayhem you have potentially loosed upon us? When in doubt, go to Piedmont Park, take a dog, a friend, a kid, for a stroll, or just sit and watch the world roll by. The 28th is a day of introspection, NOT navel-gazing.

after dark

scorpio

[OCT. 23 – NOV. 22] Don’t shut out the harbingers of good news. It is truly time to celebrate and one of the finest ways is to meander through The High Museum of Art. Up and down the spiraling staircase for a festive 4th Friday, swigging dangerous cocktails and making googoo eyes. The Art Williams on the 2nd will sweep even an arch connoisseur like you off their feet. Be fearless.

SAGITTARIUS

[NOV. 23 – dEC. 21] Is it too much to ask you to cede the road mightily travelled, dear one? It is only in the small, quaint shops of what were once villages, will you find the treasures that you seek. The 5th is a good day to count your blessings. A very good day.

Capricorn [dEC. 22 – JAN. 19] Go down to the water. Or up to the water. The lakes, the creeks, the boat, the skis--none of that really matters to you. It is more about who else is going, organizing the trip to get to know those you have your eye on. You are a maven of organization and on the 25th, your skills are given their due recognition.

AQUARIUS

[JAN. 20 – FEb. 18] It is up to you. The time for drastic changes is fast approaching and you are creating the blueprint for the future with every hesitation or decision you make right now. Ask yourself for counsel and do not rely on family for advice. The 27th is a pivotal day. What you throw against the wall will stick.

PISCES

[FEb. 19 – MAR. 20] All of those changes, the boat-rocking, the head-shaking, the questioning of “Why ME?” are becoming clear to you. It is easy for us to slip into habitual behavior that is no long an appropriate response to the environment we find ourselves in. Honey bunny, this is the time to stand up straight and be yourself. Frankly, who else you gonna be? Atlanta is made for sin. Either sin or just have a good party. Call in your favorite belly dancers, aerialists, or just a plain old fortune-telling-coffee-grounds-reader. You have the opportunity to be swept off your feet on the 1st. Just say “Yes!”

ARIES

[MAR. 21 – APR. 19] Stop stumbling about making excuses about EVERYTHING. Flowers bloom, ok? That creates pollen, right? Deal with it. If you claim you cannot see in the dark, baby, yet you neglect to turn on the lights, how in the world do you expect to be considered independent? It is your choice whether to accept unacceptable behavior, or just let things drag on, out of fear of the unknown. As my great Mentor once shared with me, “Everybody cooks with water.” Let there be a bright spot going forward, go to the Oakhurst Community Gardens and rejoice in the cycle of life. The 7th beckons, laden with magic.

Eats

The

Sweetness

Of Everyday By Mikkel Hyldebrandt Photos: Alexandra Grablewski ©

If you're like me, you love to buy cookbooks, read and browse through them while marvelling at the culinary wonders on every page. But honestly, I rarely get around to cooking any of the scrumptious dishes, because in the end nothing I ever cook looks like the photo in the cookbook. You also usually need too many ingredients that are too hard to get. So, the cookbook ends up on a shelf as a testament to my good intentions along with a mental i'll-get-around-to-it-someday note attached to it. 48 : April 24, 2014

Sweet Paul Eat & Make is different. First off, if you’re familiar with Norwegian born Paul Lowe’s amazing blog and print quarterly, Sweet Paul, this cookbook is a strong continuation of his culinary universe where his motto “perfection is boring” reigns supreme. It’s a motto he actually adopted from his grandmother. “I have a very simple approach, I like simple unfussy food with a few but very good ingredients. I hate complicated recipes and ingredient lists as long as a bad year. I have tried to keep all the recipes in the book very simple and very tasty,” Paul Lowe tells FENUXE while we caught up with the popular chef. Flipping through the pages of the colorful cookbook, you’ll recognize a lot of staple foods like pancakes, cinnamon buns, cake crumble, roasted chicken and eggs Benedict. However, they are all thoughtfully infused with a decent dash of his Scandinavian heritage. Another feature that makes this cookbook different is that it is also partly about crafting and includes

step-by-step ‘recipes’ on how to make fun little crafty projects like fork bookends, a punch bowl pendant lamp or cool vintage photo napkins. The ‘Make’ part of the cookbook may not be for every die-hard home cook, but are definitely a part of the quirky foodie universe that makes up Sweet Paul. “I wanted to make a book about the two things in life I love the most, cooking and crafting. A book where I could go a little deeper and talk more about who I am, and why I turned out the way I did. It has a lot to do with two little old ladies,” Paul explains referring to his grandmother and great-aunt who raised Paul in Norway and spiked his interest in both cooking and crafting. Paul Lowe’s self-professed appreciation for all things American was sparked by another aunt, Auntie Tove. After a two-year marriage in Texas she returned to Norway with an enormous blow-out hairdo (Peggy Bundy style) and an American accent accompanied by the tendency to mix in English with Norwegian. When babysitting him she would tell him stories about steaks large enough to fill two plates, fast food and enormous cars while calling him ‘Sweet Paul’ - a name that naturally fit when naming his own blog years later. With chapters divided into morning, brunch, noon and night you can easily find a recipe that fits any occasion and time of day. The challenge is to pick out what you want to cook, because you’ll quickly realize that these recipes are easy to do - and the results are amazing and, of course, ever so tasty. I have a feeling that this cookbook won’t end up on a shelf, but will be put to good use...

Pork Tenderloin with Balsamic Raspberries Serves 4

Sweet Paul Eat And Make: Charming Recipes and Kitchen Crafts You Will Love is $30 and is available now from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and as an e-book.

• 2 pork tenderloins (about 3⁄4 pound each), trimmed of excess fat • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil • Salt and freshly ground pepper • 3 tablespoons butter • 1 shallot, finely chopped • 1 cup balsamic vinegar • 1⁄4 cup granulated sugar • 2 cups fresh raspberries 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F, with a rack in the middle position. 2. Rub the meat with the oil and sprinkle it with salt and pepper. 3. Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a large skillet and brown the pork on all sides, 4 to 5 minutes. 4. Place the pork on a rack in a roasting pan and roast for 10 to 12 minutes; an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 140°F. 5. Let the meat rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes. 6. Meanwhile, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon butter in a small saucepan over medium heat and cook the shallots, stirring, until soft, 2 to 3 minutes. 7. Stir in the balsamic vinegar, sugar, and 1⁄2 teaspoon salt and simmer until the sauce starts to thicken, about 10 minutes. 8. Season the sauce with pepper, add the raspberries, and heat just to warm. 9. Cut the meat into slices and serve with the warm balsamic raspberries.
