LOOKING GOOD HERE AND NOW Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Grooming Director

Sure, looking good is about healthy routines and long-term skin care solutions, but once in a while you just need a quick-fix with that here-and-now effect that will make you look good in an instant! SKIN BREATHER This mask will make your skin feel as if it immersed in club soda – and it'll look refreshed afterwards. Massage a layer on to your damp skin, wait a few minutes until a prickly froth developes and then rinse off. Refreshed skin? Done! Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask, $54 SHINY SKIN A couple of sprays with this skin tonic will immediately absorb excess oils from the surface of your skin. Use it on clean skin before your moisturizer or as a refresher and shine eliminator during the day. Kiehl’s Oil Eliminator REVIVE THE DO Refreshing Shine Control A matte, texturizing Toner For Men, $20 hair wax can instantly infuse dull, flat hair (long or short) with some volume and life if your hair seems to fall flat during the day. Bumble & Bumble Sumotech Hair Wax, $28

14 : September 11, 2014

TAKE IT GREASY If a shower isn't in your near future and your hair needs to feel and look clean, try a hair powder. Yes, you heard right! Hair powder! The method is widely used in Asia where fresh water isn't as abundant and is more expensive than here in America. A couple of shakes into the hair, a good towel rub, and your hair will feel freshly washed. If you don't believe it, just try it. Alder Natural Hair Powder, $32

EVEN OUT SKIN 'Blurring' products are ingenious because they will even out the surface of your skin invisibly. The fine gel infused with micro pigments will instantly even skin tone and diminish unsightly pores – and without looking like makeup. Nickel Le Grand Bluff Perfector, $33

DRY SKIN Nothing nourishes the skin like a facial oil. Ideally, a facial oil is used as part of your daily skincare regimen, but as a quick-fix a couple of drops massaged into the skin will get you there. Use only a few drops and it will leave no oily trace on the skin. Jack Black MP 10 Epic Moisture Nourishing Oil, $32

Twenty-eight Atlanta bachelors signed up to compete in this year’s FENUXE Best Bachelor event and thousands of votes were cast online. Every year the ten bachelors who receive the most online votes are named Atlanta’s Best Bachelors, however, this year we had a virtual tie for 10th place. So we have eleven wonderful Best Bachelors! As always FENUXE's annual Date Auction will raise money for Atlanta's AIDS Walk and this year it is as important as ever. AID Atlanta is currently expanding and they’ll be relying on funds raised during the event to continue their vital work. Last year AID Atlanta performed over 7,000 HIV tests and provided direct HIV prevention education to over 50,000 individuals. With the addition of a new Wellness Center and on-site pharmacy, AID Atlanta is increasing the number of people who can receive their services and the range of services they’re able to provide. This year the fundraiser and bachelor auction will take place at 10th & Piedmont on September 21st. The highest bidder will win a date with their chosen bachelor and a fantastic prize package. You can win by making the highest bid online in-advance or in-person during the live Date Auction. The Best Bachelors are also competing to see who can raise they most money for the AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K. If you would like to make a donation to support them you can do so at their online fundraising page. We look forward to seeing you at this year's event!

WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? I am looking for someone who is genuine, someone who really enjoys and understands me. I am a complicated one so the perfect person will need to be humorous, smart, kind and have their own real identity.

Bru Krebs I am a real estate broker specializing in the Atlanta In-town Market. I am into fitness, working out, rollerblading, running and lots of outdoor activities. I play for the Spotted Dog PRIDE Kickball Team. I am an annual Corporate Sponsor for Joining Hearts, and I enjoy lots of different charity fundraising activities for our community. For fun, I love spending time with my Doberman Zorro, my friends, and doing things in the community. I also love the beach, jet skiing and getting to travel.

WHY ARE YOU EXCITED TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR THE AIDS WALK ATLANTA & 5K RUN AS ONE OF ATLANTA'S BEST BACHELORS? I have always enjoyed helping our community. It gives me a chance to give back to those who have made my life so special and help those who need it as well. This is a great chance to do just that. WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN ATLANTA? There are so many things. I love how progressive our city is and how our leadership is really aggressively bringing industry to the city. We are a great hub for the country and Atlanta has so much to offer the world. It's just exciting to be a part of that.

WHAT KIND OF MAN ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? My ideal partner would be compassionate, driven and intelligent. He ought to be independent, while appreciating and wanting a long-term partnership. He must have a sense of passion that is balanced with both internal and external beauty. I enjoy sharing a good laugh, which highlights the importance of a good sense of humor. All of these attributes will ensure a successful long-term relationship.

Gabriel J. Martinez-Diaz, MD I am a board-certified dermatologist, practicing at Dermatology Consultants, P.C., in the metro Atlanta area (Buckhead and Marietta). Originally, I am from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, where my family still lives. One of my favorite hobbies includes playing volleyball, which I have done since elementary school. I have played in numerous national tournaments and continue to be actively involved in local volleyball leagues. As far as what I do for fun, I enjoy wine tasting, working out and reading both fiction and non-fiction. I also volunteer at Emory educating dermatology residents and medical students.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN ATLANTA? Having only lived in Atlanta for one month, it has become apparent that this city never stops: it has an everexpanding number of restaurants, nightlife, arts and theater, with a scene readily available for anyone’s taste. Overall, Atlanta has a progressive mindset, with an expanding professional scene. Perhaps, most importantly to me, it has direct flights to Puerto Rico.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE? This is a tough one – I would have to say that the Harry Potter series are my favorite movies. It’s perhaps one of the best movie series that exemplifies my active imagination and unleashed my inner child. ARE YOU A DOG OR CAT PERSON? I am a dog person. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF COUPLES VACATION? In general, anything that changes the fast pace environment that we both live and work in would be greatly enjoyable. Photos by Josh Hobgood

I’m a realtor for Common Ground Real Estate, PalmerHouse Properties located in downtown Decatur. In my free time I enjoy doing sports like biking, tennis and horseback riding. Maybe it's my italian heritage, but I also really enjoy cooking and baking, and it's definitely the reason why I’m a proud member of the Italian American Club. TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE DATE? We went to Campagnolo. It was so simple, but amazing. Wine, a charcuterie plate, and just amazing flowing conversation. A date doesn’t have to be over-planned in my opinion. The person on the other side of the table is what makes it amazing. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ONE OF THIS YEAR’S BEST BACHELORS? The outpour I had just on my Facebook page alone of people who may not even know me, letting me know “I voted for you” was unbelievable. Atlanta can sometimes feel like a lonely place where it’s difficult to make your way into social circles. It’s an amazing feeling to know I had people thinking of me whether they actually know me or voted just based on a photo.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? Absolutely WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST TURN ON? BIGGEST TURN OFF? Turn On: Fitness. Turn Off: A Facebook FULL of selfies WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF COUPLES VACATION? Never had one. Let’s write the story as we go!

WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? The type of guy I am looking to date, is someone who has a great sense of humor, likes to laugh and have a good time and who is comfortable just being themselves. I have never had a "type" when it comes to who I am attracted to, I like someone who is confident without being cocky, cares about being healthy, and open to trying new experiences that may not be their normal taste.

Jason Holcombe I was born here in Atlanta at Northside Hospital and grew up outside the city, in Lawrenceville. I love the outdoors, so weather permitting, that's where you will find me in my free time. I enjoy horseback riding and have been riding since age three. I also enjoy weekly dinners with friends, concerts, a show at the FOX or seeing a production from Cirque Du Soleil. I have been involved in horse rescue for the past 13 years and would have to say that it is my passion. I have a 55 acre farm in northwest Georgia where I, along with other Savethehorses.org volunteers, help to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome some of these beautiful animals taken in by the organization.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN ATLANTA? Atlanta has always felt like home to me. I am recently back, after living in Chattanooga for the past 5 years and to me there is no comparison. There seems to always be something to do in Atlanta. Depending on your mood, you can meet friends on your favorite patio, stop by one of the many bars around the city, enjoy a day at piedmont park or touring the aquarium. This city is a great place to live with options for everyone to have a great time.

FAVORITE PLACE TO VOLUNTEER? Savethehorses.org a nonprofit horse rescue. ARE YOU A DOG OR CAT PERSON? I have one of each and love them equally. DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? Maybe not love, but definitely "connection at first meet"

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ONE OF THIS YEAR’S BEST BACHELORS? I feel honored and appreciative that so many of my friends both gay and straight supported me in making the final top ten. I think it's positive and shows progress in our city for both gays and lesbians coming together as one.

Michelle Kiepper I'm a Director in Global Sales for an international transportation logistics company. I love to travel the world. I enjoy the beaches and love to socially drink with friends. As a former athlete, I enjoy watching sports and playing golf. I frequently play Texas Hold’em, so I guess I enjoy gambling. I organize and participate in fundraisers, to give back to the community. I find fulfillment in paying it forward. Photos by Josh Hobgood

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN ATLANTA? I just told someone last night that I love living in Atlanta. Atlanta is a city that is continuously changing and growing. I love it's diversity, restaurants and its beautiful skyline. Atlanta has over 6 million people, but it seems small because no matter where I go, I run into someone I know. What I love the most is the people.

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU ENJOY? I enjoy all types of music except rap, but I'm still an 80's kind of girl. WHAT IS ONE THING WE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU? When I was like 8 years old, I took my shirt off, walked around my neighborhood and told everyone I was half boy/half girl because I had no boobs. At the time, I was flat chested like a boy. Needless to say, years later not much has changed...lol. WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST TURN ON? BIGGEST TURN OFF? Biggest turn on: Someone with a personality that is spontaneous and likes to have fun. Biggest turn off: Someone who is full of drama, high maintenance or narcissistic.

Joshua Kinsey I was born and raised in the Northeast Georgia mountains and just recently moved to Atlanta this past January. I am the son of a preacher’s family, so my faith is very important to me. I attended Mercer University College of Pharmacy and graduated in 2005 with a Doctorate in Pharmacy degree. When not fulfilling my pharmacist duties at Kroger Pharmacy, I enjoy attending festivals, running in Piedmont Park, antiquing, shopping, attending the theatre, trying different restaurants throughout the city and just cuddling on the couch with a good movie or TV show. Above all, my favorite thing to do is laugh!

Best Bachelor WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? Well, of course physical traits are important ... but there is so much more to making a true connection - at least in my opinion. The number one thing I look for and am mostly attracted to is a guy that can not only protect me and care for me, but a guy that will make it his number one priority to see that we are happy, remain in constant communication and fall more in love with each passing day. And yes, I am a hopeless romantic! WHY ARE YOU EXCITED TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR THE AIDS WALK ATLANTA & 5K RUN? Given my personal background and my continuing struggle to help family and friends better understand and accept the LGBT community, I am very excited to be involved with such a great charity like AIDS Walk Atlanta. I feel it is very important to not only raise money to fund AIDS research, but to fund awareness campaigns as well.

ARE YOU A DOG OR A CAT PERSON? Definitely a dog person! My best friend is a 4 year old, 13 pound Morkie (Maltese and Yorkie Mix) that loves to cuddle and shares his daddy’s love of treats! His name is Cameron “Duke”. FAVORITE ATLANTA DATE NIGHT SPOT? I don’t necessarily have one specific “spot”, but I really enjoy a restaurant with a great patio and plenty of scenery. WHAT IS ONE THING WE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU? I really enjoy college sports, especially football (Go Dawgs!) and most certainly basketball! I am a HUGE Duke University Blue Devils basketball fan and love traveling around the country to watch live games!

WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? There are three main things I look for in a potential partner: (1) Intelligence; (2) A sense of humor; & (3) Family. I am attracted to guys who I am able to learn from and at the same time can laugh with. I also am very close to my family and I would want my partner to become integrated in my family and for me to become part of his family as well. Beyond those three requirements, I believe that everything else is a compromise.

Bobby Shane Palmer, J.D. After graduating from Florida State University College of Law in December 2013, I moved to the Inman Park neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia and accepted a position as an associate at Thompson, O’Brien, Kemp, & Nasuti. When I am not working or rooting on the Florida State University football team, I enjoy spending time with friends, singing karaoke, playing kickball at Piedmont Park or grabbing a drink at Tenth & Piedmont. Photos by Josh Hobgood

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ONE OF THIS YEAR’S BEST BACHELORS? I feel honored to have been nominated for the competition, and I am grateful for those that voted me as one of Atlanta’s Best Bachelors. I am ecstatic to assist as a Best Bachelor in raising money for the AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run, and I am really looking forward to meeting all those who are participating in the various events.

FAVORITE ATLANTA DATE NIGHT SPOT? My preferred first date is one that is simple and classic like a picnic at Piedmont Park or watching a drive-in movie at Starlight Drive-in Theater in the back of my truck. WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU ENJOY? My music preference depends on my mood and surroundings. If I am going out with friends, I like whatever the DJ is playing that has a good beat for dancing. If I am spending the evening at home, I like jazz music playing in the background. When I am driving around town, I like Top 40, Country or Oldies. DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? Yes! WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN ATLANTA? One of the biggest reasons why I love living in Atlanta is the proximity to my family. My mom, plus my three youngest brothers that live with her, are only a two hour drive away. I also love this city because there is so much to do and see every week, but not too crazy where you feel like you have to go out every week.

Ty Autry The catchphrase that pretty much wraps up my daily life goes: Business analyst by day, student in my free time and actor by night. Longer explanation, I work for a company called Codesigned in-between my classes at Georgia Tech, where I study electrical engineering. I keep myself busy at night by working with DramaTech Theatre. This semester I am directing and choreographing a variety show titled ‘Evolve’, which opens up this month at DramaTech Theatre! Also, I really enjoy traveling, camping, the outdoors and exploring new cities. You could say my hobby is traveling as much as I can. Photos by Josh Hobgood

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN MARRIAGE OR EVEN HAVING A FAMILY ONE DAY? Marriage, and having a family, is probably one of the most important things to me. Coming from a big family, and being the oldest of all five boys, has made me want kids of my own one day. I believe that raising kids of my own and having a stable family is one of the joys of this short life that we have. By the time that I am ready to get married, hopefully it will be able to happen in this state!

FAVORITE ATLANTA DATE NIGHT SPOT? Cafe Intermezzo and Octane Westside WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF COUPLES VACATION? Any place we can go exploring! ARE YOU A DOG OR CAT PERSON? I love them both, but especially adore my cat, Fiyero.

Bradley Thomason Returning to Atlanta after 13 years in Manhattan has proven to be one of the most rewarding chapters in my life. I am a clinical psychologist and opened a private practice in L5P in April. I began acting when I lived in Atlanta in the 90s. In NYC, I “honed my craft” and made acting a second profession (see bradthomason.com). Performing is the biggest thrill I know – it’s what I do for fun. I enjoy fitness and sports, typically running and hitting the gym daily. I’d like to get back to participating in gay sports leagues. Volunteering for LGBT and HIV–related causes is also a passion, and I recently joined the Atlanta Ambassadors of the Trevor Project.

Best Bachelor

WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? First and foremost, there must be deep and profound love – a love that is both passionate and compassionate. I need someone who is willing to compromise, reciprocate and take the high road. Intellect is extremely important to me – I need someone who can challenge me. He needs to make me laugh and appreciate my silliness. A nice chest, biceps and a dimple chin don’t hurt. WHAT ARE YOU THOUGHTS ON OUR COMMUNITY’S MARCH TOWARD EQUALITY? Most recently, I felt especially moved and proud when a tiny town (Vicco, KY) in my conservative home state passed a fairness ordinance. However, my thoughts extend further back than two years. The judicial and legislative victories in the last few years have been incredible, but the groundwork was laid decades ago. I think about the bravery of the Stonewall rioters and the AIDS activists during the early years of the epidemic . Gay history fascinates me - we owe a great deal of appreciation to our early crusaders.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE? Anything with Meryl Streep. FAVORITE PLACE TO VOLUNTEER? The Trevor Project - I hope to help make its presence and visibility in Atlanta and the South greater. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT? Campagnolo – the capellini with meatballs is divine. Sticking around to sing show tunes at the piano with my friend/former director, Robert Ray, is my dessert. WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? I am looking for someone who is smart, funny, and down to earth. I want to date someone who knows how to have a good time and who I can also have intelligent conversations with. And a guy who can make me laugh has my attention right away.

Danny Enriquez I am a student at Georgia State University majoring in biology pre-med, and want to proceed to go to medical school for surgery. I also bar tend at Felix's on the Square in Midtown and I intern at a clinic in Marietta. As far as interests go, I have so many! Dancing is one of my biggest passions. I am a dancer with the Georgia State Dance Ensemble and I do musical theater when I'm not too busy. I also enjoy doing flying trapeze and fire spinning. Some of my other interests include singing and playing piano, swimming, hiking, repelling, and white water kayaking. I also enjoy sports, though I'm not playing any at the moment. Photos by Josh Hobgood

OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS THE GAY COMMUNITY HAS MADE MUCH PROGRESS IN STEPS TO EQUALITY. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON OUR COMMUNITY’S PROGRESSION? I believe that equality is going to happen no matter how much some people try to prevent it and now people are starting to realize it. I am so happy for the progress that we've made and I am so grateful for everyone who has fought to make a difference and bring us to where we are today.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? I believe in lust at first sight but I believe that love takes a little more effort than opening your eyes. WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST TURN ON? BIGGEST TURN OFF? My biggest turn on is charm and a great smile. My biggest turn off is body odor. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? I don't know that I have a favorite. I just love food! I guess anything with seafood or steak is my favorite.

WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU LOOKING TO DATE? Sense of humor is a MUST to make sense of this crazy world! I also value intelligence which is extremely important for deep conversations. Having a cute smile or sexy eyes and lips certainly doesn't hurt!

John P. Ouderkirk, MD After spending a slither of eternity up North in medical school, residency, and fellowship - I relocated back home here to Atlanta where I am happy to work as a physician in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. I recently opened up my own practice treating the best patients around. Never a believer in : living to work - I absolutely enjoy living life - in all directions - traveling to far away places - even to Minneapolis, MN representing Atlanta at the Gay Softball World Series! But zip-lining in Costa Rica was probably as much fun. But more importantly, I am a Kickball Superstar! Photos by Josh Hobgood

OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS THE GAY COMMUNITY HAS MADE MUCH PROGRESS IN STEPS TO EQUALITY. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON OUR COMMUNITY’S PROGRESSION? Holler Poodles!! I usually try to write columns to make people laugh and forget their problems, but today I am truly saddened by the passing of Joan Rivers and want to reflect a little about this dynamo of an entertainer. As evidenced by the overwhelming response in all forms of media, Joan Rivers by all accounts was a legend. Anyone who ever saw her knows the bang she could deliver live. Most people would never expect her shows to be so vulgar and funny all at the same time, but she delivered the punches seamlessly one right after another. The first time I saw her was when I was in college. Our Student Union brought her to the Fox Theatre for one of the best shows I have ever seen, and I do mean EVER! Outrageous, sharp, witty, acerbic, gross and bitingly funny--more so than probably any other comedian I’ve ever seen. This was at the height of her popularity when “Can We Talk?” was coined and she was a hot commodity for the 2nd or 3rd time around. Whether you loved her, hated her or were indifferent, you have to admit, she said what others were thinking and never hesitated to say what was on her mind. I think gay men especially were drawn to her and other icons because they spoke their mind and didn’t hold back. But more than that, she was genuinely funny! Not just topical, not just cutesy, not just crude, not just gross but an amalgamation of everything a comedian needs to be. I was a big fan! What impressed me most was her ability to pick herself up after a fall and bounce back. She constantly reinvented herself and came back bigger and better each time. Faced with so many tragedies in her life, she never let circumstance keep her down but chose to make lemonade out of lemons. More accurately, she found the humor in the most desperate of situations when it would seem none could be found. She knew happiness was a choice and damned sure led life to the fullest and was relevant till the very end. While her passing is sad, she certainly wouldn’t dwell on it and would probably make a joke about it. She would definitely want us to laugh more. Here’s to a special lady that provided some of the best laughs I’ve ever had and has inspired me to want to be the best me I can be. Love and lashes to you Joan!
