I AM ALWAYS amused when a friend passes judg-
ment over my decision to purchase a fruity and flavorful alcoholic beverage. Who doesn’t love strawberry-raspberry rum spiced daiquiris garnished with pineapple chunks and little umbrellas? Their comment is always “Dude, that is such a girly drink.” My response? The last I heard you are a guy who likes guys and you don’t like anyone examining your love life, so why examine what I chose to order?

As always, diversity is an abundant beauty in our community. Part of our diversity is the willingness to try and establish our love for many different vices. Some people love to cook, some people enjoy mastering the perfect martini. Some gays like to spice things up in the bedroom, quite often, and some of us enjoy shopping addictions which would thrill any Capital One executive.

All vices are good in moderation and the point is, embrace your friend’s quirky diverse traits. You might learn something new about yourself. To help, we offer our vanity and vices issue. In this installment we explore many difference vices and the devastating effects when things go overboard.

Like it or not, libations are a big part of the gay lifestyle. Many of us plan our weekends (lives?) around a happy hour or pool side cocktail party. The fact is most of us have no clue of the facts about alcohol or its history. Here are a few booze clues that may or may not help you win a round of trivia. Cheers!

Addicted to Accessories EVER BEEN STUCK behind an over accessorized boy at the TSA line at Hartsfield? These boys who are addicted to accessories just need to chill a little bit with the bling. At Fenuxe we believe in practicing safe accessorizing. To help us navigate the turbulent waters of accessories we have enlisted celebrity stylist and costume designer Frank Helmer who offers up a few tricks of his trade! Frank’s advice: The main thing to remember when accessorizing is that less is almost always more. The point of an accessory is to augment YOUR style not become a style of its own (or beat the gentle observer over the head with too much look). There are a few key pieces every man would do well to have on hand to make any outfit a stylish success.! A Great Watch And by all means I do not mean a great big giant watch covered in diamonds with an orange ostrich leather band. Wearing a watch can give you a complete look. Whether it's a sporty Tag Hauer type when I'm exercising, an old school Swatch when I'm feeling colorful and going out dancing or suiting up with granddad’s vintage gold wristwatch on my way to work, keep it cool and classic and not the size of a gold plated artichoke.
Cool Glasses Get something that is not so run of the mill. I don't mean you have to jump on the big chunky, look-at-me-I'm-think-I'm-from-Brooklyn frames bandwagon but try something with a little personality. Mix it up with aviators from the 70's and then throw in modern, office appropriate, horn rims to the mix. Everyone is going to be looking you in the eyes at some point so make sure they are framed well. For those of you with perfect vision, grab a cheap pair of fakes from www.WarbyParker.com. They have a great collection of very affordable, high quality vintage inspired frames and I'm a big fan. A Sexy Belt I know you just dropped a week’s wages on that Hermes belt with the big gold "H" buckle so I hate to tell you, it's tacky. Get a good belt, get one from Hermes or Gucci or Dolce even but skip the buckle that screams it. Let them find out how chic you are when they slide it out of your pants on the way to the bedroom. Good Quality Bag or Briefcase Nothing ruins an otherwise great look like sporting your mangy purple Jansport backpack from high school. Invest in a great leather or canvas briefcase or messenger bag. My favorite thing right now is carrying a smaller bag that is just big enough for the necessary stuff (keys, phone, wallet, notebook, ipad) so I don't have my pockets full of junk. www. PerfectStrangeIndustries.com makes a great "necessary" bag some made from recycled leather jackets and all made in the USA. Frank’s final advice: Remember, it's all about showing your personality in subtle yet significant ways and adding an individual touch to everything you wear. And when in doubt, take off the last thing you put on. Works every time. 16

Luck Be Atlanta THERE ARE CITIES across the country that would kill for even one great event per month in their city. Luckily for Atlantans we usually get a couple of great touring shows a month and this August is no exception. First, we get the pleasure of the classic musical Guys and Dolls presented at the Fox Theatre. Then Cirque De Soleil takes us on a fanciful excursion into the harmony between nature and humans when they perform Dralion at the Phillips Arena. GUYS AND DOLLS
This classic oddball, romantic comedy, musical is set in the mean, yet oddly musical, streets of New York. The play follows uptight Sarah Brown as she tries to reform highrolling, gambler Sky Masterson. The story also follows engaged couple Nathan Detroit (always searching for a crap game) and his chronically ill fiancé Adelaide. The two couples sing and dance their way through some of the most famous show tunes in the history of Broadway like: “Luck Be a Lady Tonight,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” and “Adelaide’s Lament.” The timeless score was created by the unsurpassed Frank Loesser. Many people remember the 1955 movie version of Guys and Dolls that starred Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, but if you have
never seen it performed live you have no idea what you are missing. The original version debuted on Broadway in 1950 winning several Tony Awards during its run of 1200 performances.
DRALION
Cirque De Soleil is a band of roaming performers which combine dance, music and circus-style acrobatics into an impressive live art piece that shocks and awes every audience with death defying acts. Dralion draws inspiration from the Eastern philosophy about the never ending quest for harmony between nature and humans. The name Dralion is derived by combing the dragon (symbolizing the East) and the lion (symbolizing the West). According to ancient philosophers, the world is governed by four elements: air, water, fire, and earth. In Dralion each element is represented by a color that takes human form. From there cultures blend, Man and Nature become one and balance is achieved. If you have the time you should definitely check out one or both of these amazing shows! Both shows will take you on fantastic journeys of music and dance!

Last year I really didn’t know what to expect. To see the park full of people all there for the same reason really moved me. The energy was high! Everyone was full of love and compassion, but there were also tears and pain, memories of the loved ones we have lost. It takes each of us talking to everyone we know to get our friends the help and support they need. I finished the race without stopping and I was proud of myself because it was more than just running a 5K. It was a feeling of hope and a sense of understanding for what all 10,000 of us were doing out there. This year I am a member of the team Burkhart’s Pub. We have a small team now, but I’m sure it will grow. We know the importance of asking friends and family for support and donations and it feels good to contribute something other than just our presence.” Thanks Eddy! Why do YOU participate? EVERYONE HAS A vice. Some vices are as innocent as drinking red wine
while watching a real housewives marathon while others may have more sinful behavior, maybe involving body shots in a dive bar. No Matter what your vice, everyone needs to get their fix one way or another. Check out the best places to get your night vices fixed in the ATL.
GREED
Atlantans are very lucky to live close to some of the best casinos in the country. It’s only a few hour drive to Harrah’s Cherokee and only a short flight to the Beau Rivage or the Hard Rock in Biloxi. But if you don’t want to spend the time commuting or waste flight dollars there are a few local joints that can help you get your gambling fix.
LUST
There is not a single person in the world who hasn’t had a moment of lust in their life. There are just times when we all need a little “love” in our lives. And luckily for ATL gay boys there are a million ways to get your fix in this naked city.

The Rest Is History By Sam Peng Gazing into the mirror, Paul looks at himself staring back at him, getting ready to start his day with a tooth brush in his hand. Paul, a partner in a prestigious Atlanta law firm and a responsible citizen of the world when it comes to drinking, is a friend everyone loves to have. He is very well aware of what his limit is when he sips on his favorite pinot grigio and knows when to stop. He collects wines as a hobby and loves to generously share this passion with his colleagues. As much as he loves wine, Paul only takes on this pleasure exactly twice a week, on Friday and Sunday nights, to “cleanse the soul.” He understands that over-indulging will lead to dangerous outcomes, but when it comes to alcohol and if consumed methodically, it has a few healthy results for the human mind and body. Drinking remains at times a stigma to speak of when the discussion arises, mainly because it conceals itself a culprit behind most traffic crimes and domestic abuses. But an average conscientious person must speculate that there must be another spectrum of pros as opposed to the mounting cons when it comes to drinking. And that inquisitive mind is absolutely right. Furthermore, there are quite a few positive effects of responsible drinking. Drinking a glass of red wine or your favorite clear liquor mixed cocktail once every two days will actually “decrease your chances from dying from a heart attack,” as alcohol has the ability to “reduce calcification of the arteries,” as stated by the Mayo Clinic, a nonprofit medical care organization. Also, the National Institute of Health continues to report alcohol will lower the risk for stroke as it has “anti-clotting properties that may prevent clots in the blood vessels.” No heart attacks and no stroke from drinking? Are we absolutely certain about these findings? The answer, from documented researches, confirms them one hundred percent. And the positive effects of drinking don’t just stop there. 22 FENUXE.COM
Gallstone, those nasty little cholesterol solidified deposits which sit inside gallbladders can be avoided with light alcohol consumption. According to the 2003’s Nurse’s Health Study, the alcohol composition prevents the forming of gallstones. On the other hand, overdrinking will also accelerate the formation of gallstones, thus this finding is yet inconclusive, but remains to be an optimistic discovery regardless. Another, study conducted by Harvard Medical School finds light alcohol intake will “reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.” One can safely assume that, indeed, alcohol isn’t so bad after all if consumed in a healthy and responsible manner, which is what Paul has been proudly doing during his life. But his story continues. All day, Paul has been working on a rather difficult case involving a bank swindler. He isn’t able to come up with the defending evidences and it has taken him almost three weeks. The trial is deadlocked. At nine o’clock that evening, he enters a restaurant he seldom frequents and orders a glass of red wine to go with his late dinner. He orders a second glass as a night cap. Then it hits him. Stress mounts, pressure looms, and he orders a third glass at ten o’clock. By this time, the alcohol he consumes has contracted his brain tissue and depressed his central nervous system. He is now not able to process his thoughts coherently. What am I going to do? He thinks about his job. When he walks out of the restaurant after his fifth glass at 10:45pm, the communication between his nerve cells and brain has broken down, causing him to appear sluggish. With the alcohol now running through his blood stream, it takes over the functions of his cerebellum, which controls his movements. His hands, feet and body are no longer coordinating. He takes out his keys and gets into his car. The rest is history. After he finishes brushing his teeth, he looks at himself in the mirror again. On cue, he hears the bell, which is followed by the opening of his prison cell door. He walks out of the jail cell and joins the others for a roll call.

The Next Great Gay Travel Destination?
By Craig Kimbrough
A NEW REVOLUTION is quietly brewing in Havana, Cuba which
While gay life is still largely underground, one of the most amazing scenes occurs every night in Havana starting at about 11:00 pm where La Rampa Street and the Malecon, an ocean front walk, intersect. On weekends you’ll see hundreds of guys strolling, chatting, and playing guitars all night until the sun rises. Talk to the right people and you’ll get an invitation to one of the private home parties that pop up in different locations throughout the week. If you would like a small splurge, head over to the basement of the National Theatre on a Friday or Saturday night for their cabaret/dance party. You’ll see hundreds of young Cuban men looking as if they had just stepped out on a runway. If you are a foreigner, you’ll pay five dollars to enter while Cubans pay much less as is common all over Cuba. Just a short walk from the gay scene on La Rampa takes you to La Zorra z el Cuervo, a jazz club with top national acts going until late in the morning. Eleven dollars gets you in and buys you two drinks once inside. This is an intimate club not to be missed! When you are ready to recover from the nightlife, only thirty minutes from Havana is a beautiful gay white sand beach. You can rent a lounge chair and umbrella to catch up on lost sleep. While not easy to find, you may need to make a Cuban friend who will show you the way, but this shouldn’t be difficult. Havana is a great walking city and a photographer’s paradise. The architecture is stunning. There is a wide diversity of art, music and museums which could take weeks to explore. Cuban restaurants have traditionally been dismal, however this is changing rapidly. You can expect to pay eight to fifteen dollars for an entree and not much more than three dollars for 24 FENUXE.COM

could make it the next great gay travel destination. Only two hours from Atlanta, the gay scene in Havana is beginning to sizzle after years of repression. Raul Castro’s daughter, Mariela, has even participated in a gay rights march and Brokeback Mountain has been seen on government television.
a drink in an upscale restaurant. Finding a place to sleep can be dicey. Hotels in all price ranges can be found. To experience the real Cuba try staying in a casa particular, which is a family run bed and breakfast. Try your hand at an internet search, you’ll be amazed at the plentiful options. We like Hotel Habana Paseo located at Calle 17, esq A. This beautiful newly renovated 30 room mansion is still working out the kinks but provides great value and location. Single including full breakfast, $34. There are many great restaurants in Cuba, but the one you must try when you go is Sociedad Asturiana Castropol located at Malecon 107 e/Genio y Crespo. This is possibly the best restaurant in Cuba. Ask to be seated upstairs and hope for a table on the balcony overlooking the Caribbean. They have a wonderful variety of seafood. Once you are ready for your Cuban adventure, you will need to obtain a travel license issued by the U.S. Treasury Department, which can be difficult and time consuming. Some travelers have been known to fly to a third country such as Mexico or the Bahamas to simplify the trip. With direct air service scheduled to begin soon from Atlanta and both countries easing up on restrictions, Havana Pride could very well become the trendy travel event of the future.

It’s great to head to the grocery store right after the gym. You are all pumped up, wearing a tight muscle shirt, your Braves, Texas or Cocks baseball cap and that extra confidence that’s sure to get you a smile or two as you peruse the aisles. The main target aside from the produce guy is protein. Yep, you got to feed the muscles. Our most popular choice is our feathered friends and I don’t mean our lovely lip-synching ladies at Blake’s on Wednesday nights. I’m talking about the chicken, a staple in most of our homes. I have a few secrets to share to make your experience with poultry a tasty delight every time. For a juicier chicken breast, marinade with apple juice overnight. When ready to cook, dry the breast off with a paper towel, salt and pepper and sear on both sides then slip it in the oven for 15 minutes (depending on thickness). I guarantee you’ll never have a juicier chicken. Try it – you’ll thank me later. Other good marinades include: “Mojo sauce” an authentic Cuban marinade available almost everywhere these days, or make your own with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, rosemary, and a squeeze of citrus. When you are in a pinch, Italian style salad dressing will do the trick. Another quick and delicious recipe is tossing pre-marinated cubed chicken into a veggie stir fry with a homemade glaze of orange juice, orange zest, ginger, vinegar, salt, pepper, garlic, soy sauce, chicken stock and a touch of corn starch for thickening. Cook on high heat and serve over brown rice. For those of you growing basil in your garden this summer; harvest a couple of cups of the best greenest leaves, add ¼ cup of toasted 26 FENUXE.COM
pine nuts, ¼ cup of grated parmesan cheese, 4 garlic cloves , ¼ cup of extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper and place in food processor. Mix this tasty sauce into cooked penne pasta with chopped cooked chicken – a fantastic and mouthwatering summer dish. It’s sure to impress the produce guy! One last thing to consider is that we have been spoiled to buy our chicken skinned and deboned. However, the most flavorful chicken is when it is cooked with bones and skin in place. It’s easy to get the lean meat separated and will save you a few bucks. For details on recipes or questions write me at dino@fenuxe.com
INSIDE LOOK:
I Will Survive;
A Gay Anthem By Dino Thompson-Sarmiento
YOU KNOW IT’S
happened to you – you are at the gym on an off night, your usual work out pals aren’t with you and you find yourself surrounded by all the straight boys, so you “butch” it up (after all you are the only one whose gym shorts match your sneakers, iphone case & water bottle). From the speakers “Dirt Road Anthem” by Jason Aldean is filling the room. You hustle to finish your routine so you can get to Joe’s on Juniper’s Trivia night when to your surprise your hips are sashaying wildly, you’ve thrown your arms up in the air and have cat walked around the gym twice before you realized what you are doing – and then you hear it - the music has changed - it’s your anthem screaming from the speakers
YES! It’s Gloria Gaynor belting out “I Will Survive”! This epic song will forever live in our hearts as it reflects to so many of us our struggles to survive - through sexuality, alcoholism, drugs, AIDS, relationships, acceptance, love, sexual abuse, success, aging, eating disorders, depression and so on…the following interview takes us through 30 years of survival within the lives of two beautiful men and what they have experienced together. Celebrated artist, Steve Bogdanoff & his partner of 30 years, Sotheby’s realtor, Arthur (Art) Stern share their personal struggles and long lived relationship in hopes of helping and assuring folks that it does get better. They survived and so will you. This lasting romance began in West Hollywood in 1981 with Steve, a cute 21 year old Jewish boy dancing a top a speaker in swim trunks at the “Mother Lode” club and Art, a tall, handsome 23 year old wasp from outside Boston. Tell me about the early 80’s and what it was like to deal with what was first known as GRIDS (Gay Related Immune Deficiency Syndrome) later AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) How did this contribute to your relationship? Art: It was new; we didn’t know what it was exactly. My friend who took me to the club where I met Steve contracted it and passed. Many folks died, we were scared – we both believed in monogamy but we had a sexual life before we met and we learned of the incubation period, so for a time we lived in fear. We were lucky, we were ok. Our relationship wasn’t changed by AIDS but we did actively begin to support the AIDS walk (thinking it would be a couple of years while the cure was 28 FENUXE.COM
found) and here we are decades later still supporting this important cause. Share with us your battle with alcohol & drugs Steve: I experimented with drugs but it was alcohol that I loved. It started at the age of 5 when my biological father would give me beer before he would molest me. I grew up in an abusive home. Later on in my teens, I would find ways of getting the alcohol even if I had to steal it. I knew well before I met Art that I had a problem and I then started needing alcohol to be comfortable in the gay environment as well. How did you deal with the abuse? Steve:Alcohol was my best friend but I also went through a period of hurting myself. I would tighten belts around me until the point of extreme pain; I developed the eating disorder anorexia, but it was alcohol that would numb the pain. Art did you realize what was happening? Art: I guess I didn’t want to see it, I didn’t recognize what was happening. I grew up in a happy home. It was the typical “Leave it to Beaver” family. I thought we were having fun when we drank. What opened my eyes were the black outs. Within the first 2-3 years it became chronic. We moved from Southern California to New Orleans and things got worse. Steve: I literally would disappear for hours and had no idea where I had been. I ended up in the emergency room once with a broken tail bone. I even had a DUI in Laguna Beach once but that didn’t stop me from drinking.
July 1981
What finally was the breaking point? Steve: I rescued an abused dog from a crack house. I named him “Crackers”. (Laughter) realizing that being in and out of black outs wasn’t the best scene for this animal I had just rescued. I attended my first AA meeting. I was sober for about 30 days and I conveniently convinced myself I wasn’t one of “them”. The drinking got so intense after I quit AA that I wanted to die, I was suicidal. I then got help and on September 2, 1994 I began my life. My best life. How did you stay sober in New Orleans of all places? Steve: It wasn’t easy at first. I recall a bar not too far from where we lived in the French Quarter that would take your “chips” from the AA meetings and cash them in for free drinks. However, every morning when opening up my art gallery I would see all those lost souls walking around in an alcohol infused daze from the night before and I didn’t want to be that person anymore. I finally recognized that alcoholism is a progressive disease; I needed it every day. I chose a better life for me. I could never go back. “You can’t turn a pickle back into a cucumber” (Laughter). Then you faced yet another challenge called “Katrina”, tell me about that. Art: We had been in New Orleans 12 years and nothing had ever happened in relation to hurricanes. They always seem to veer off. The day before Katrina, I remember Steve wanting to stay. I felt like we needed to evacuate. The deal was if Mayor Nagin advised for evacuation and the category was upgraded to a 5, we would leave. Both factors came into play and we drove to a place south of Memphis. Steve: After the devastation we realized we couldn’t go back. Arts family home was empty in Marblehead, Mass. We ended living there for 9 1/2 weeks. I suffered severe post traumatic stress disorder from being forced from my home (my safe place) it triggered childhood traumas. I eventually headed to New Orleans desperate to see how our home and art gallery had faired and to save my $7000.00 sub zero refrigerator. I purchased a gas mask and trekked into the devastation. My home and gallery were fine. I did save the sub zero fridge despite the coffin-flies and rotting food. The
July 2011
smell in New Orleans was strange. The scene was surreal as military were everywhere, thousands of lives and homes destroyed, chaos was the theme. Steve, you are an internationally recognized artist because of your fresco secco-style artworks, your most notable print entitled “Vive la Nouvelle-Orléans” became a symbol for the strength and resiliency of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the city, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale helped raise funds to re-build the Louisiana SPCA which was severely damaged by the storm. Tell me where folks can find your unique artwork. Steve: Most of my art is found in private collections around the world but I do have a website at www.bogdanoff.com. My gallery is no longer in New Orleans as we now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, considered one of the leading cities in the art world, and one of the least for natural disasters. Finally, Steve and Art what would you like to share with our readers regarding surviving being gay, surviving life. Art: Get out of where you are if it’s harmful or negative. Go where you can find love and affirmation. We survived all of our trials because we loved each other. As time goes on it does get better. We respected each other, gave each other space to grow, make mistakes and heal. We never settled but found comfort. Remember to keep open lines of communication. Steve: I echo Art’s words. By comfort we mean it is safe, it is positive, it is home. I also would like to share that I believe in marriage and equality for all. No one should be left to feel like a second class citizen. It does get better and one day the LGBT community will enjoy full rights. 30 years later and these men have not only succeeded in sustaining a beautiful, healthy romance with each other, but have learned to love themselves despite their many trials. No matter what challenges you face you must continue to forge forward. I thank the many folks who are sharing their personal stories so that others can find hope and not only survive but live. My boyfriend and I are having a little problem. I am a 37-year-old, college educated man with a professional job. I make a good living, own a home and drive a nice car. I also have a little obsession with the Care Bears. I am very proud of my collection of over a hundred stuffed Care Bears plus a few other CB trinkets. My boyfriend is moving into my house next month and he thinks that it is time for me to sell (gasp!) my friends and put the money towards making the room a home gym. Really? I have offered to buy him a gym membership, but he wants to be able to work out at home. He has threatened to leave me if I choose them over him. Please help. I love them both! Signed,
True Heart Bear
Dear Slightly Creepy Bear, Unfortunately, I think this might have more to do with the fact that most grown-ass people aren’t real big on having entire rooms devoted to stuffed animals than it does with your bf’s desire for a convenient workout. Just a hunch. You should suggest a Care Bear themed workout room! Tell him when his resolve starts to flag, he can look at the shelves upon shelves of frozen, plastic eyes and imagine they’re Care-Bear staring him through that last set of squats. Of course, that’s the most horrifying thing I’ve ever imagined. Sounds like the beginning of a B-horror flick where the first victim dies from having his throat stuffed full of polycotton teddy bear filling, but I digress. Since that first thing is definitely not going to work, maybe you should start obsessively and secretly hoarding Care Bears? You could rent a storage unit and keep them there in pristine condition, visiting them daily, and be really shady about where you are when he asks. “I was at…the store, yeah, that’s the ticket.” When he shows no sign of suspicion, defend yourself shrilly and perhaps grow a mustache to twirl obsessively. I don’t know you have to come up with that part, but the point is to pervert this slightly odd, but probably totally harmless, hobby until it becomes an enormous secret that slowly erodes at your relationship, ultimately leading to its end. Or, you know, keep a few bears and sell the rest since the two of you are moving in together, melding your lives, and he needs to feel that it is his home too. Or any of the other things. Care-A-Lot,

Are You a Gambler or a Faker? DO YOU KNOW when to hold ‘em? Do you know when to fold ‘em? Do you even care? Gambling is one of America’s favorite vices and where better to do it than in Las Vegas! Of course, Vegas is more than gambling. No matter what your vice is you will find away to soothe it in Sin City. Answer the questions below to find out if you are a real gambler or just some guy who looks good pretending to shoot craps!
A. Hit the Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood to find the perfect swimwear for your days sipping frozen drinks by the pool. B. Take a twenty and put it the nearest penny “I Dream of Jeannie” slot machine and play the minimum bet hoping the twenty lasts you at least two days. C. Grab a seat at the closest poker table, plop down your loyalty card, order a Martini and settle in for the weekend.
2. Have you ever crapped out during a trip to Vegas?
A. No way, that’s why they make Red Bull. One night I took in the water show at the Bellagio, ate dinner in Paris and ended my night at 4AM at a bar in the fruit loop wearing nothing more than my boxer briefs. B. Who wouldn’t with all those buffets around? C. Hell no! I took those bones and turned a cold table into a scorching hot one by rolling an Ada from Decatur then a Big Dick and even did a twelve the hard way once or twice.
3. What is your favorite one armed bandit?
A. Oh, I always had a thing for Billy the Kid, but I think he had two arms. B. It’s a toss-up between the Wizard of Oz and Cleopatra. C. I would never be caught dead at a slot machine. You will only find me splitting or doubling down at a table.
4. Is it better to have a full house or a pair of jacks? A. I am in Vegas so they are both good. The more the merrier I say! B. I don’t know. The video poker machine just tells me if I won or not. C. Please stop insulting my intelligence.
A. If I left with a tan, two suitcases full of new clothes and a few numbers! B. The same amount of money in my pocket as when I arrived! C. Ten grand in winnings, bags under my eyes and a sore ass from sitting at a poker table all weekend.

5. What would you consider a successful weekend trip to Vegas?
1-7 Queens: What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, except for your new clothes of course. 8-16 Queens: What you do in Vegas should stay in Vegas because it is downright boring! 17-20 Queens: You know when to hold them, you know when to fold them, but jeez maybe it’s time to check out a Gamblers Anonymous meeting!

NEON HITCH By Michael Vorndran
BOYS AND GIRLS please allow us to introduce the next big thing… Neon Hitch (fyi that is her real name). You may be familiar with her earlier singles “Silly Girl” and “Get Over U”, but it is her latest single “Bad Dog” that will unleash what is sure to be a beast of a career! She took a few minutes away from her promotional tour to answer a few questions from Fenuxe. 56 FENUXE.COM
Fenuxe: Thanks for taking time to sit down and do an interview with us. Fenuxe is digging your music and we love the new single “Bad Dog”! Neon: Thanks for having me! I want your whole office woofing like bad dogs!! Fenuxe: Of course we have to start with your name. We know that it’s your given name, but do you have any idea what your parents inspiration was for naming you Neon? Neon: My dad is a lighting technician and was driving through Piccadilly Circus. As he was looking up at the neon signs, it came to him! I’m pretty lucky that ‘Neon’ was the final choice because the others were ‘Brown Rice’ or ‘Zizigeratzanzibarzandos’ ...No joke! Fenuxe: Is it true you grew up in a circus or is it just a rumor? Neon: Yeah... my Mum was a performer, so I got into it at a young age. I learned to do the trapeze and swing fire and that was my passion. We performed with a circus called Archaos, travelled with a freak show and performed at festivals every summer. You can see the documentary about me when I was younger on YouTube.com/neonhitchtv Fenuxe: How did you get your start in music? Neon: I was friends with Neneh Cherry’s daughter and she introduced me to Neneh and her husband Cameron, who was also in music. After speaking with Neneh’s husband about my interest in music, he told me to go make a demo. So, I found a producer in this music magazine called “The Stage” and from that demo, Cameron got me signed to 679 Recordings, the same label as The Streets. Fenuxe: What was your first big break? Neon: I’m still waiting for my BIG break... haha! Fenuxe: How did you end up with your record deal? Neon: It took me a while of style searching... When I made my way over to America, Benny Blanco brought me into a session with Kara DioGuardi to write. A few days later, I get a call from
Kara and she says she wants to sign me to Warner Brothers! Fenuxe: What is it like working with such a brilliant mind as Kara DioGuardi? Do you feel like you are being judged all the time? Neon: Oh hell no! She is the big sister I’ve never had! She’s such an inspirational woman. Fenuxe: So far, of all the cool and talented people you have worked with, which of them was the most fun? Have any of them influenced your current style? Neon: I love working with Ke$ha. We always have so much fun... We’re both wild animals! HAHA! Fenuxe: Right now you are on a promotional tour. Neon: Yeah it’s just the beginning of this tour and I’m having the best time! Fenuxe: Have you ever been to Atlanta? Neon: I’ve never been, but I’d love to! Fenuxe: When is your first album going to hit the streets? Neon: We are planning to release it later this year. No firm release date set yet though. Fenuxe: What inspires your music? Neon: The life I’ve lived has really inspired my music... From living in the jungle and being homeless to falling in love... And I listen to a lot of the Beatles so that’s where the psychedelia comes from. Fenuxe: What music are you listening to the most these days? Neon: I listen to a lot of old Motown, but then I’ll listen to anything from Sia to Skrillex! Fenuxe: Thanks for taking the time! Have a great tour! Neon: Thank YOU so much!! Check out the tour dates on neonhitch.net and come party with the Neon Tribe! FENUXE.COM

HEy Girl HEy Hollah! Just got back from the Best of Atlanta party hosted by Fenuxe magazine at By Design and I’m excited to report that Jerusalem House received “Best Non Profit.” As a board member, it means so much to me that our community is so supportive. I’m also really excited to be working with Fenuxe Magazine on my fundraiser for Jerusalem House. “Mary Edith Pitts’ 21st Birthday Party” is August 20th at the Jungle from 6:30 to 9:30pm with very special guest PANDORA BOXX from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Presale tickets are available for $10 at eventbrite.com or at the door the day of for $15. Sponsored by Fenuxe magazine, and Rokk Vodka, you know its going to be a blast! With your paid entry, you will receive two drink tickets courtesy of Rokk Vodka I’m asking in lieu of gifts, flowers, cakes, etc. for you to bring your checkbooks and credit cards to make a tax-deductible donation made out to Jerusalem House and help me reach my goal. I hope to see you all there! Thought of the week: Do you ever feel unclear regarding your thoughts, conversations, relationships or jobs?
A lack of clarity often leads to unneeded stress. Take the time to ask yourself “What is my intention?” While it may seem trivial, asking that simple question can provide clarity where none currently exists. When you know you need to have a difficult conversation with someone, be clear on what your intention is from the start. It often times disarms the other person and will help you both to get to the end result faster without all of the stress. It can also be helpful to look back on previous situations we’ve been hurt by to examine the other persons intention. Most people don’t set out to hurt others but it’s a guarantee at some point we will be hurt. Taking that extra step to reexamine their intention can often deflate that inflammatory situation. It can also lead to forgiveness, which is for us as much as the other person. In the midst of a heated argument, stop for a moment and ask yourself “What is my intention?” Ask them too! Sometimes people argue because that’s what they’re used to. However, you may find the arguments decrease if you make your intention clear. It becomes so much easier to navigate the relationships around us when we are clear about our intention. I hope it becomes your intention to bring a big donation to my fundraiser August 20th from 6:30-9:30pm at the Jungle to support Jerusalem House! (Tongue in cheek) Love and lashes,
