for your pleasure. In 2011 we had the wild idea to put out a sex survey to you, our readers, so we could learn more about you on an intimate level. Well, the findings were just downright provocative. So much so, that we decided to do it again in 2012! This year our survey received three times the responses from the previous year, giving us ample information regarding the way you go about your business. Check out the responses to the 2012 Annual Sex Survey starting on page 46. This issue is headlined in our 2012 editorial calendar as the “Sex Issue.” Little did we know leading up to the release this headline would force us to explain repeatedly how Fenuxe plans to put out such an issue. The thing our community tends to forget, and what we are sharing with you in this issue, is that sex isn’t just novelties, online material and phone apps. It is so much more! Sex is a passionate bond between souls. It is love. Above all, it’s about educating yourself, your friends and your lovers to be safe. Our community is often far too relaxed when it comes to practicing safe sex. Check out our refresher on page 54 to equip yourself with two great resources for being safe.

on a quiet atlanta street a tall slender man clad in a bright orange shirt and black leather vest pops out the front door of his quaint home and I know I’m at the right place. We’ve chatted on the phone and emailed, but this marks our first meeting in person. It’s 9 o’clock on a Monday morning and it’s most likely too early for what we’re about to do, but I’m ready to get to business. I brieﬂy inspect his room full of paddles, leashes, restraints and other leather gear, and my eyes widen with the realization that I’m in the presence of a true professional. I suppress the urge to audibly gulp as they do in the cartoons; I don’t want him to think I’m having any doubts. “So how did you get into the leather scene?” I ask the man who prefers to be called Tory Pup. “I started when Sanctuary was still around,” he says. “I started piddling around and ended up getting a job at Fore Skin Leather.” After that shop closed, Tory Pup tells me, he found a new home at Achella and stayed there until the owner passed away and another company took over. “It was time for me to strike out on my own,” he says. About two years ago he founded Barking Leather with his partner, Sir Ray. They make custom vests and chaps and offer a plethora of fetish and bondage gear, Tory Pup informs me. “Partner?” I think to myself. “He didn’t mention a ‘partner’ in our previous conversations.” “In another year or two we’re hoping to move into a brick and mortar building,” he says. I realize we only have a few moments before I need to wrap up the small talk and get to the real reason why I’m here. So, I wish him luck and ask if about the current trends in leather and whether any colors are popular

right now. He tells me the “traditional black” remains customary. “But, if you want to order something with a pink stripe I’ll put a pink stripe on it,” he says with a laugh. I chuckle, followed by my final question of how he first learned to construct garments and such. “My mom was a ballerina so I got started sewing by helping make tutus and costumes in my early teens,” he says. I wasn’t expecting that response but there was no time to dwell on it. It’s now or never. So, I pull out my gear in Tory Pup’s workshop and photograph him for this article. WHITE HOT HOEDOWN there’s something sexy about wearing all white. Have you ever seen Daniel Craig in a crisp, white shirt. We’ll wait while you Google that image. So sexy! You can feel just as smooth and sophisticated as James Bond during the annual Premiere Party, an event to benefit CHRIS Kids. More than $800,000 has been raised through this event since it launched in 2002, and all proceeds help the Atlanta organization support homeless LGBT youth. Every year guests dress in white to celebrate in style, and they certainly dress to impress. “We have seen some altogether fabulous white suits, hats, shoes, boas and dresses,” said CHRIS Kids Chief Executive Officer Kathy Colbenson. “It is hard to pick the most memorable.”

Kathy told another story about a young man who found a safe, supportive home at TransitionZ for almost two years after being kicked out by his family. He graduated from Georgia Perimeter and then transferred to Morehouse College this past September. CHRIS Kids is also working with a transgender woman who is trying to rebuild a relationship with her mother, while attending college. So when you slip on your white attire you’ll know you’re helping these young people and other youth like them. And nothing is sexier than a good cause.

For this year’s theme, the organization chose “Transformation.” “CHRIS Kids provides acceptance of people for who they are, where they are,” Kathy said. “Acceptance validates the dignity and worth of persons and is the foundation from which kids can accept themselves, begin to heal, learn to make positive choices and take charge of their futures. This is transformation.” It’s events like the Premiere Party that allow CHRIS Kids to help “transform” youth in need, and Kathy shared several recent success stories. “The Counseling Center provided counseling for a 14-year-old girl and her family after the girl came out,” Kathy said. “The counseling and support provided helped the mother come to a place of acceptance and support for daughter, and the family was able to remain intact.”

Spanish Seduction Be warned! If you visit the gay resort Finca la Maroma in southern Spain you’ll be overwhelmed with the desire to quit your old life and purchase the vacation spot.

That’s exactly what happened to Thomas Kaurich and Mark Pudge, a British couple who took over Fina la Maroma in the autonomous state of Andalucia in October 2010. “Having had busy professional working lives in London, we were looking for a change from the daily grind,” Thomas said. “We had always been attracted to Spain, its casual lifestyle and weather, and the desire to share this spectacular part of the world with other gay men and friends of our community was too great to pass up. We were immediately drawn to the tranquility of Finca la Maroma’s location.” Less than an hour drive from Malaga and only three miles from the village of Sedella, the 300-year-old country estate borders the Sierra de Tejeda National Park and lies within 40 minutes of beaches and an array of white Andalucian villages dating back to Moorish and Roman times. Thomas and Mark recommend the beaches of Cantarrijan, Almayate, and Maro, all offering naturist and gay areas. They also suggest visiting the Granada’s Alhambra, a palace constructed in the fourteenth century. When you’re not gallivanting around the Spanish countryside, you can relax in one of the estate’s six self-catering studio apartments, which feature fullyequipped kitchens and private or shared terraces. Dating opportunities rarely ﬁnd their way into my social life. Maybe it’s my natural instinct to run away from men I ﬁnd attractive. Or maybe my dear roommate is right, and I scare away potential suitors with my “unwelcoming” vibe. He uses another word for it but I don’t want to be crass.

Whatever the reason, I can tell you that a future date could easily reel me in with an invite to dinner. Until a few weeks ago, the promise of Thai or Mexican cuisine always did the trick. But after dining at Co’m, Vietnamese food edged its way onto my “I’m-always-in-the-mood-for-that” list. I must thank Duc Tran, the owner of the Buford Highway restaurant, for introducing me to my newfound favorite grub. The pleasantly friendly restaurateur genuinely cares about the food he serves, and his eagerness to please his patrons is infectious. During my visit to Co’m I asked Duc to choose my meal, and I can honestly say none of the dishes disappointed. For appetizers he selected Ha Noi rolls with peanut sauce and French Colonial grape leaf rolls stuffed with lamb meat. Both were packed with savory ﬂavor, and I couldn’t get enough. An entrée of fragrant rice with grilled pork chop followed, and my taste buds quivered with delight. Duc recommends working your way through the menu from the simpler to the more adventurous dishes. Co’m offers the opportunity to build your own lettuce wraps with your choice of grilled meats, which appears to be quite popular with the regular patrons. For a special dining experience, Duc suggests the whole grilled sheep head fish, which serves three to four people. Other crowd-pleasers include the shaking USDA fillet mignon—served with spinach, grape tomatoes and steamed rice—or the red curry tilapia. 28 : MAY 31, 2012

Did I mention the complimentary desserts? I believe Co’m has already spoiled me because now I’ll expect all Vietnamese eateries to include a free mocha cake or espresso ﬂan. Aside from the deliciously satisfying food, Co’m provides superb customer service. The wait staff is among the most attentive and gracious servers in the city. Prepare to tip because they certainly earn it. And to top it off, Co’m offers Pride Night on Wednesdays with entertainment by drag performer Isabella, who will wear a traditional Vietnamese gown each week. I do love my drag queens! So, if a guy asked me on a date to Co’m I simply couldn’t resist. But I’m not using my job to solicit dates. That would be tacky …

Atlanta’s Own Adult Film Star Opens Up

Charlie Harding loves sex. A lot. Getting hot and bothered for him is a career. Literally. Since February the Midtown stud has performed in eight professional adult film scenes. You can trust me on the accuracy of that number. I’m a professional journalist, and I verify my facts. Ahem. Anyway, I asked Charlie to expose himself. He obliged—verbally. Shannon: How did you get into the adult film industry? Charlie: I was doing some fitness and art modeling and had some really good pictures taken. One of my friends—who also does adult films—said I should send the pictures off. So I said “what the hell” and submitted them to Raging Stallion and Falcon. They immediately called back and booked me. Shannon: Where can we find your work? Charlie: My first film came out on DVD on May 14 through Falcon Studios, and it’s called “Picture Perfect.” I have two other scenes released as well. One scene is on FalconStudios. com and one for LiveFriction.com, which is a live web cam scene. Shannon: I’ll need to fact check those. So, what attracted you to the industry? Charlie: Sex is a lot of fun, and I’m an exhibitionist at heart anyway. So this was a way for me to combine one of my fetishes and doing something I enjoy. I take care of my body and work out like crazy. This was another avenue for me to show off a little bit and show the results of my hard work. Also, the money is good. Shannon: Sounds like an ideal job. What else do you do for work? Charlie: I do marketing and promotional work for bars and clubs. And I’m going to start doing some dancing at Swinging Richards. I’ll be doing some video release parties as well, and I’m booking appearances at bars—a lot of them in the Atlanta area. INTERVIEW Shannon: So walk me through a regular day on set for you. Charlie: It depends on the director because everyone works a little differently. Typically you show up late morning and meet your costar if you don’t already know him. You walk through what’s going to happen on set. So you’re not throwing someone on a table and the table breaks. [Laughs] Then everyone preps and gets ready for it. It takes anywhere from four to eight hours of filming to create a 30-minute scene. Shannon: Gosh, I’d be exhausted. But you seem to enjoy it. How do you like your new career so far?

Shannon: When do you normally shop there? I’m kidding. So, what do you find most challenging about being an adult film star? Charlie: A little bit is reputation. Sex is still taboo. To do sex on film, some people really look down on it. People just assume you’re dumb—that you don’t have a good head on your shoulders. A lot of folks don’t realize that I have an MBA. I have 15 years of sales, marketing and management experience. I used to run a 500-person company. So this is an interesting leap for me to do something based off physical appearance.

Who have you enjoyed working with most so far? Charlie: Jason Michaels was a lot of fun. We had a really good time. The director said he was extremely impressed with the scene. I enjoyed working with Jessie Colter on “Body Shop.” Shannon: Have you been recognized in Atlanta yet? Charlie: I was at Trader Joes picking my asparagus and green beans and some guy looks at me and smiles real big. I nod my head like, “Hi. How are ya.” He points at me and says, “I know who you are. I’ve seen you online.” I was thinking Scruff or Grindr. But he said, “You’re on Falcon Studios. I saw that scene you did with Dylan Roberts.”

Shannon: What about your romantic life? Charlie: I’ve dated around a little bit, but it made it hard to date. But now I have a really awesome boyfriend. I’ve known him for a few years. Scotty Rage is his stage name; he doesn’t do porn, but he does fetish and art modeling. We’ve known each other for years and realized there was a spark there. So I moved to Atlanta from Tennessee and moved in with him. We’re doing really, really well. We have a very understanding relationship, and we have a very unique definition of sex. Sex! Did we see your eyes light up with excitement? Safe sex! And the spark dims. Sure, talking about protection and HIV status sometimes kills the mood, but shouldn’t it always factor into sexual encounters? Both Chandler Bearden of Positive Impact and Steven Igarashi of AID Atlanta think so. After compiling data from the 2012 Fenuxe Sex Survey, we asked the two gentlemen to share their thoughts on some of the results. Fenuxe: Almost 20 percent of the survey takers are in open relationships. Chandler: The CDC has released data stating that 40 percent of new HIV infections are from partners of relationships in which there was sex occurring outside of the relationship. You never know what your partner is doing. Sometimes decisions get made while under the inﬂuence of alcohol (or hormones for that matter). People get caught up in the heat of the moment and don’t necessarily make the wisest decisions. A lot of people associate getting an infection with being promiscuous or being unsafe. They don’t really think they could possibly get this from their partner. Fenuxe: About 75 percent of respondents admit to having unprotected sex with a monogamous partner, while 23 percent admit to having unprotected sex with multiple sexual partners. Steven: It’s human nature to desire intimacy, and that intimacy is often sought in skin-to-skin contact with our partners. At the very least, for many, using a condom can feel cold and sterile. about HIV status or protection is the riskiest of behaviors. Fenuxe: Forty-four percent of respondents never ask someone’s HIV status. Chandler: Since it is a law in Georgia that you have to disclose your HIV status I think a lot of people just assume that’s going to happen. There’s basically just a lack of communication and disclosure. Steven: I often say that if you’re comfortable enough to be naked with someone, you should be comfortable enough to talk to them. The biggest issue in our society is people not knowing their status; one in five people infected with HIV are unaware of their status. In Georgia, we are number six in the nation for new HIV infections, and 60 percent of those infections are concentrated in Fulton, DeKalb, Clayton and Gwinnett. We cannot pretend that we are not aﬀected by this. This is everyone’s problem.

Look, when you’re new to it, it can be scary and frightening but as long as you’re safe, it can also be wonderful, breathtaking and even funny. Yeah, I said it! Sex can be funny, too. So here it is ... Fifty Shades of Gay: You know it’s happened to you. You’re all caught up in the heat of passion, you’re both working over each others’ bodies and you begin to make love. During a few hours minutes of lovemaking, it’s inevitable you’ll experience an embarrassing moment or two. DOHhh! Do you acknowledge it? Ignore it? Laugh at it or just keep going? Nobody wants to admit it but that’s some funny stuff. Just like they say you need to laugh in a relationship, I think it’s important to laugh during sex (when appropriate). Being a goddess, it’s always interesting to me when the opportunity for sex presents itself. While I’m not thrilled with the idea of being in drag while being intimate, (especially in my body suit) I will admit, it has happened. I can even remember being with a guy in my dressing room and then looking into the mirror afterwards with horror realizing I was still in drag. It makes me ask questions I can’t answer. “Was he attracted to me in the suit? Is he a panty chaser? Does he always want me to be in drag? blah blah blah? Whatever!
