Love and Passion

Love is in the air!

tyler calkins

I will have to admit — I wasn’t much of a dog man before this year. I thought they were smelly, way too hard to upkeep, and liked to chew and tear up everything in the house. However, in the past few weeks of taking care of little Fenuxe, I can now emphatically declare that I am starting to understand what love means.

katherine tippins Managing Editor

Love can’t wait for you to come home and is waiting for you at the door after a hard day of work. Love is two beautiful brown puppy eyes that longingly look up to you. Love is waking up in the morning to your face being licked off. Love can’t wait to go on a walk with you while you clear your head. Love comes in many shapes and sizes, you just have to open your heart and let it in. If your Valentine’s date doesn’t go as planned or maybe you don’t have a date this year — consider volunteering at any of the local animal shelters. I think you will find that there is a lot of love just waiting for you!

p.s. Little Fenuxe is recovering very well — she had to have a second surgery because a pin was dislocated in her leg, but after the second surgery, she is going to be A-OK!

Dress To Impress (And Score…)

Tips on how to dress for your first date Top

Don’t wear a suit, but wear a jacket – A sports jacket is practically perfect because you can dress anything up and down with it. An entire suit is overdoing it unless you are going to a very fine eatery — otherwise a suit makes you appear a little stiff and perhaps even boring. J. Crew Ludlow Sport Jacket in Corded Cotton, $188 Show your style with a tee – As long as you wear a jacket, you can go (a little) crazy with your T-shirt. This is where you can add a pop of color, wear your favorite slogan or support your favorite team. And a fitted T-shirt will show off your physique in a subtle and tasteful way. Alternative V-Neck T-shirt Eco Green, $19

Denim does it – A good pair of jeans, preferably in a neutral and darker wash, are dressy enough for almost any venue. Alternatively, a pair of chinos are perfect because they emanate the same kind of casual style. Club Monaco Barrett Jeans, $195

What you wear always matters, which is particularly true when it comes to work — and first dates. And if that first date coincides with Valentine’s Day, the pressure to pick the right outfit is so on! There are first impressions and then there are ‘first date first impressions.’ Although you met in a crowded bar or at the gym, lasting impressions are made on the first date. So naturally, what you wear to that first date is highly important. Start by asking yourself ‘For whom will I be dressing?’ Do you need to boost your own confidence through your outfit and basically feel hotter than ever? Or do you want to display your personality and style to that potential significant other through carefully chosen pieces of clothing? Ideally, what you wear should be a mix of the two: On one hand you should feel comfortable and confident, and on the other you should dress in a way that does not disguise who you are. Tricky business, as you want to sell yourself in the best possible way and not overdo it at the same time — after all, we could be talking the first date of a life-long relationship here!

12 : February 14, 2013

Showcase shoes – Naturally, you should not wear your oldest pair of sneakers. Nor should you show up in your finest lacquer dress shoes. The perfect middle way is a pair of dressy sneakers that show you care about how you dress, but that you are not fussy either. Aldo Matfre High-tops, $80

FENUXE LOVES: VIKTOR & ROLF SPICEBOMB Like anything from Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf, this fragrance is all cheeky audacity and sexy elegance. And don’t worry, even though it is on the spicy side, it is not overwhelmingly explosive but rather smooth and sensual. Wear it discreetly (on your chest and covered with clothes) to entice others to come a little closer and smell you… Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb, 1.7 oz Eau de Toilette Spray, $75

Terry Hackworth, a nurse practitioner at Pride Medical, was one of the 10 Bachelors last year. “I thought it was a really good experience,” he told FENUXE.

Participating in the 2012 Best Bachelor of Atlanta contest was helpful for Terry’s career as well. “I had just become a nurse practitioner a few months before that and it helped put my name out there,” he said. Although he doesn’t usually do well in the spotlight, Terry said the auction and photo shoot were not difficult for him. “The other Bachelors made [the auction] a comfortable experience as well and we watched out for each other, so I wasn’t uncomfortable at all and it was actually a lot more fun than I anticipated or ever expected it to be,”

NIGHTLIFE DJ Joe Gauthreaux Spins to Win Joseph Gerbino, Contributor

When Out Magazine named Joe Gauthreaux “Hottest DJ of the Year” in 2005, it was a very different world. Social media wasn't as prevalent. “We're all so much more connected now,” says the New York DJ who returns to Atlanta to spin at Heretic Nightclub. “It's so much easier to get information and music to my supporters, and for promoters to get a hold of me if they want me to spin at their club or event.” In 2005, Gauthreaux was still considered one of the new kids on the block, competing for gigs against some of the biggest names in the dance biz, including Junior Vasquez, Manny Lehman, Victor Calderone, and Tony Moran, who dominated the scene in the early 2000s, headlining every major event and making it close to impossible for aspiring DJs like Gauthreaux to get their chance on the decks. “Fighting you

makes

stronger,” he says now. “The long battle to make a name for myself in the club industry taught me that to stay in the game, you have to constantly keep working like nobody knows who you are.”

Starting out, Gauthreaux made a name for himself with a sound that was primarily vocal house mixed with tribal and melodic trance. Today, his sound is a bit more diverse.

And to be really successful, a DJ should prepare to give up his social life. “I travel nearly every weekend and during the week I spend most of my free time working on the music I’m going to present at the gigs.”

“I genuinely love all kinds of music,” he explains. “I love tribal, EDM (electronic dance music), progressive house, and then sometimes I simply love a good commercial vocal anthem. I'm always trying to keep my sound fresh, incorporating new beats and sounds to keep the momentum going on my dance floor, yet still staying true to who I am. The worst thing a DJ can do is get stuck in a certain sound for too long. Music is constantly changing and evolving. If you don't change with it, you'll get left behind.”

Then there’s the promotion side of the business, the time spent on Facebook, Twitter, and the like. “It's very time consuming, but important and essential,” says Gauthreaux. Competition remains fierce, especially today when it's easier than ever for one to call him or herself a DJ. The goal remains to please the crowds. “There are constantly new faces coming into the club scene; young kids stepping on the dance floor for the first time or guys in their mid-to-late 20s who are tired of the bar scene and want something more. There are always new people to win over.”

He says club revelers simply want to have fun. “That's what I tell myself when I go into the booth — make it fun. Sometimes that means a full-on banging tribal set, or if the party is on a beach in Miami, it's a lot of anthems and some EDM-styled tracks. Whatever the event, I want people to think the experience was worth the cover charge and the long line they waited on to get in. I don’t take anyone’s time or money for granted. I aim to give them something they can't get on their own, something new and original.” That includes his own production work. Gauthreaux began producing his own remixes six years ago. In that time, he’s worked with some of the biggest dance artists in the biz, including Kristine W, Jeanie Tracy,

16 : February 14, 2013

and Tony Moran. Recently, he’s begun taking on more mainstream projects like NeYo, The Wanted, Melanie Amaro, and even Justin Bieber. “It was for ‘Boyfriend,’ the first single from Justin’s new album,” Gauthreaux explains. “At the time, nobody had heard his new direction. I was excited to have the opportunity to present his voice in a clubbier production. I think my favorite thing about that project is that I helped show people in the dance community that Justin's a real artist with talent and a great voice. It's also kind of surreal to open up iTunes and see my remix on such a popular artist,” he adds. He says the next step is to write and produce his own original music with major artists. But first he wants to build up his name as a producer and get a couple more #1 remixes by major artists under his belt. “I want people to be really excited about my first single when it comes out because they knew and loved all of my other production work,” he says. “That's my plan.” Joe Gauthreaux spins Heretic Nightclub (2069 Cheshire Bridge Road) on Saturday, Feb. 16.

“Viva Italia” is an audibly arresting symphonic production performed by Popperazzi, a trio consisting of soprano Janien Valentine (how apropos!) and tenors George DeMott and Cody Shawn Gay. Coproduced and conducted by Michael Krajewski (the principal Pops Conductor of the Houston and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras), “Viva Italia” is a nod to the trio’s Italian roots. The production is a journey of popular music made famous by Italian-Americans and is rife with opera arias and popular classics you’re sure to recognize, from “The Godfather” to Turandot’s “Nessun Dorma.”

Love is in the Aria Make up for that ho-hum Valentine’s date with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Berlin Sylvestre, Staff Writer

Because Valentine’s Day came during the workweek this year, some of you lovebirds couldn’t arrange the perfectly romantic date due to time constraints. Now that you’re free to kindle an amorous fire over the weekend, we’ve got a hot tip to get a sophisticated start.

18 : February 14, 2013

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is hosting “Viva Italia,” a mesmerising performance that blends tender Sinatra standards with romantic orchestral works that’ll have your hands involuntarily inching toward one another’s.

Though the focus on of the show will be its blissfully love-rich music, showgoers are destined to become infatuated with the über-talented and visually appealing Popperazzi. Young, sexy, and musically versatile, they’ve graced the stages of Houston, Phoenix, Detroit, and Canada. They played Atlanta on New Year’s Eve 2010 and have been invited back to re-entertain our fair city with their rock and popinspired energy. When can I go? Friday, Feb. 15, 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m. How much is it? Tickets are $24 - $60. Where is the Atlanta Symphony Hall? 1280 Peachtree St. NE Atlanta, Ga. 30309 Where can I get more info and tickets? AtlantaSymphony.com or give them a call at (404) 733-4900

XPLORE GAY HOTSPOTS: Club Pantheon: Known for its highenergy approach to nightlife, Club Pantheon is a necessity for those who love to dance until the lights come on. Friday and Sunday nights feature “Brooke Collins and the Ladies of Pantheon.” (Collins is a high-glam performer with an arts degree to back her stuff up.) The club is only open three nights a week — Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — so all the good stuff is concentrated into three nights of delicious debauchery. Deja Vu II: For a more laid back night on the town, there’s Deja Vu II. With three pool tables, a roomy dance floor, and a friendly mix of men and women, the club has mass appeal. Deja Vu II is the spot where local work-weary gays and lesbians go to relax with a cocktail and meet new friends. You might even find yourself sharing a steaming plate of the bar’s signature “Rita’s Wings” with some friendly locals.

La Tagliatella brings the

EU TO THE ATL Berlin Sylvestre, Staff Writer

During the week that rain ceaselessly drenched Atlanta in a slow and dismal parade, people slogged through the streets of Midtown, faces disgruntled, umbrellas and lapels tightly clutched. Perhaps I’m gloating a bit, but the view just behind my cocktail at the corner of Peachtree and 8th Street was an ample distraction provided by La Tagliatella. Known by many as simply “La Tag,” the Italian fine dining eatery is wildly popular in Spain and France. Launching its first American flagship restaurant right here in Atlanta, La Tagliatella brings its massive European splendor and success to Midtown. Upon entrance, the soaked landscape of Midtown was replaced by the old-world European stylings of La Tagliatella’s grand

dining area. The masterfully gilded interior loomed high above, a veritable Romanesque cathedral of intricately carved wood politely interrupted by artful Italian chandeliers and golden adornments that harken back to a time when eating with family was serious business. With its oversized portions made from artisanal ingredients flown in directly by a supplier in Italy, the ‘eating well with family’ theme is the lynchpin behind La Tagliatella’s menu. Leaving the dinner choices up to the courteous management and her talented chefs, the tour of northern Italy’s cuisine was officially underway.

their appetite. The generous portions of bread (one with chèvre, honey, bresaola, balsamic reduction glaze, and crushed pistachios, the other with provaletta cheese, duck ham, arugula, and shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano) don’t skimp on any of the ingredients, especially the chèvre, which is particularly rare around these parts, where it is usually a hint and not a standout addition. The continuous depth and lusciousness of the goat cheese and the enormously palatable salted beef (bresaola) complement each other beautifully, and the olive oil, though instantly recognizable, isn’t over-the-top.

A tiny dish of arbequina olives, pits intact, opened the dining experience (and pairs especially well with a SKYY vodka martini, hint hint.) Shortly therein, three types of breadsticks arrived — one infused with green olives, one with sautéed onions, and the final with tomato and herbs, all equally delicious with a crisp exterior and delicate center. Better still, the Focacce Liguri, touted as a “duet of focaccia breads,” is an appetizer for which diners may makes excuses to ruin

A signature dish for La Tagliatella, the Insalata Torre di Pisa (Tower of Pisa salad) comes “leaning” curiously — and precariously, honestly — over a bed of mixed greens in a nod to one of the most famous landmarks in northern Italy. Comprised of sautéed eggplant, wafer-thin zucchini, fresh-sliced tomatoes, and buffalo mozzarella, the layered beauty is dressed with a black olive paté and makes for a chilled, refreshing start to a warm and robust dinner.

Then the entrées began to arrive. Excellent. The Cuore di Zucca, translated “pumpkin hearts,” is a butternut squash ravioli dish with impact. Tossed with Pesto Rosso Panna — a subtle pesto/cream sauce with solé di Puglia tomatoes, pine nuts, and cheese — the dish was a beautiful specimen of sweet-onsavory in an al dente execution. (‘Al dente’ is literally translated ‘to the tooth’ so it made perfect sense that the kitchen retained some of the pasta’s firmness during cooking. It sticks around for wonderful and blissful moment of licking of one’s teeth after each bite.) I’ve never had pasta that is made in-house. Such tedious preparation truly allows for the pasta to have a complex flavor of its own, something I could see people sneaking around the kitchen to eat even before it’s been sauced. La Tagliatella’s Salume pizza is light, handmade, and complete with an egg (sunnyside up) in the center. Sound strange? Try it anyway. Diners are encouraged to slice their own pizza and once the provided pizza cutter rolls through the egg, each slice is faintly tinged with the flavors of the smooth, buttery yolk in a surprising twist on an classic. Topped with thinly-sliced chorizo, it’s a sumptuous pie with an irregular shape and unusually tasty crust that gives away its in-house beginnings. The silky residue left on my fingers was

further indication that the dough was rolled and tossed only moments earlier. The ensuing dessert was a caramel-drizzled cheesecake with an impossibly thin cake base, cheesecake center, and custard topping. Losing myself, I greedily scraped the plate for the last morsels — it was sinfully luxurious. La Tagliatella, though a bit on the pricey side, is worth every cent. A dinner for two — if said diners are planning on selections from each course and having cocktails — can reach the $100 mark fairly easily. (Again, you’re patronizing an Italian restaurant that knows its stuff, so $100 is a bargain.) This is a perfect spot to take someone you’re looking to woo, so make reservations ASAP. Be aware that there are two locations — one in Midtown and one in Emory Point, so if one fills up, try the other. The atmosphere, the warm and incredibly helpful staff, the gorgeous view of Peachtree, and (most importantly) the impeccable dishes make La Tagliatella a certain success and a welcome presence in Atlanta.

FOR MOST, “COMING OUT” IS AN ARDUOUS UNDERTAKING THAT CAN NEGATIVELY AFFECT OUR RELATIONS WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES, AND ABOUT-TOWN ACQUAINTANCES. THOUGH A GROWING ACRONYM, LGBTIQ ISN’T INCLUSIVE OF A THRIVING SECTOR OF RELATIONSHIPS KNOWN AS “POLYAMOROUS.” IN THESE OFTEN-HIDDEN INTERCONNECTIONS, WE FIND A DIVERSE AND COMMONLY MISREPRESENTED GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE CENTERED THEIR LOVE AND FAMILY AROUND MORE THAN ONE PARTNER. HOLLY (A DIRECTOR OF IT AT A FORTUNE 500), ANNE (A DOCTOR), AND MARK* (A POLICE OFFICER/SWAT TEAM MEMBER) ARE A POLYAMOROUS TRIO WHO HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR FOUR YEARS. HOLLY GAVE FENUXE HONEST ANSWERS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP. Did you always know you wanted to be with more than one person or was it a surprising self-discovery? I can honestly say I never thought about a polyamorous relationship. I wasn’t hip to the gay lifestyle either. I had a few close female friends in high school but I never chalked it up to a “crush” even though I knew I had much closer relationships with girls than I did boys. Anne 26 : February 14, 2013

was always attracted to both [men and women] and made the comment once that if she could have her way, she’d have both. Mark had always considered himself a one-woman man. Is jealousy ever an issue? Each of us understands that jealousy is a wasted emotion. I don’t think any of us ever felt jealousy in our one-on-one relationships. When we ventured

into this, we knew jealousy may be an issue and so we all committed to talking openly about anything that might make us jealous. Now, do we ever get jealous? Yes. It has leaked into our relationship. Usually when one of us feels insecure, we can take everything the ‘other two’ do together as an insult. But again, communication is key, and once one of us says “I feel jealous,” the other two usually

respond to help fix that. Either by making special one-onone dates with that person, or making more time for all three of us to do something together. Do you feel like you have to "come out?" We definitely have to “come out” and there are some people who we don’t tell (mostly in work situations). In fact, when we all got together, Mark was upset that he would never be able to invite his work-friends over, as he typically works with extremely conservative people. After a few months, he started opening up to a few folks at work and realized that no one cared. Now he’s comfortable with it and pretty much tells anyone.

Anne had to come out when she took maternity leave and didn’t appear pregnant. Lots of people asked. She could have simply said she was adopting but she opted for the truth when people asked. When I had my baby shower, we had a very large turnout. Mostly people wanting to “meet the tribe.” Hey, we got lots of presents, so who’s complaining? What about legal matters? Can you talk a bit about filing taxes, etc.? So obviously, three people can’t get married. Mark and Anne are married to each other, they file taxes as a married couple and I file as single and head of household claiming one of the kids. They claim the other. This actually works out great as we get to take advantage of some of the dependent care tax credits. When we sit down to do our taxes, Anne and I are like dueling pianos with our laptops looking to see who would benefit most from claiming what expense (mortgage, etc.). How did all this come about? (How did y'all meet and how did the "hey, let's be a family" business come about?) Though Mark and Anne were already married for eight years, Mark gave permission to Anne to “mess around” with other women. I was in a relationship with a woman who attended the same medical school as Anne. Anne and I became friends over the years and spent a lot of time together riding bikes, running, playing racquetball, drinking, etc. She was always flirty and I sometimes reciprocated but kept her at an arm’s distance. When my relationship started turning for the worse, I was much more open to a no-stringsattached physical relationship with Anne. It was just physical at first, but very quickly turned more emotional. Anne made the comment one day that she didn’t think she could ever leave Mark

and I said, “Why should you?” That got the wheels turning. I liked Mark but didn’t really know him although we had been intimate a few times. We all sat down around the kitchen table one day and said, “Sooooo, what’s going on here?” It was during that discussion that we thought we’d give the relationship a try. You have two children. Do any weird legal issues come up? As far as raising kids, we filed legal paperwork to grant “Joint Conservatorship” to all three of us over the children. That essentially grants all three of us the same parental rights although I could never sue Anne for child support if she were to leave the relationship. Mark is the biological father, so he’d still be on the hook. Starting out sexually, were there any "ground rules" or "you can't sleep together without me," etc.? In the beginning, Mark and I felt a little weird having sex without Anne, but there weren’t any rules saying we couldn’t. We actually hook up more one-on-one than we do with all three. Mostly because our schedules are all over the place. It's kind of funny, sometimes Mark will ask for sex and Anne and I will do rock/paper/scissors to see who will (as we're both tired and don't want to). What are the sleeping arrangements like? We have a very large bed in the master bedroom (a king with a single pushed up next to it). Our friends call it our emperor size bed. But with Mark working a night schedule, he has his own room upstairs that functions as a black-out room that allows him to sleep during the day. Essentially, it is HIS bedroom. When Mark does sleep at night, he’ll usually climb into bed downstairs.

Has there ever been a proposed fourth? No, not in the discussion of adding a fourth to the relationship. It’s hard enough with three people. However, Anne and I have discussed allowing another women to join in physically every now and then just for fun. We joke about wanting a redhead but that’s not happened yet. Why did you (Holly) decide to bear the children? I always wanted to experience pregnancy and loved the idea of having multiple children. Anne always wanted children but never wanted to HAVE children, so it worked out nicely. How did Anne get a maternity leave during your pregnancy? Because Mark and Anne are married and the child was Mark’s biological child, that made the child Anne’s stepchild in legal terms. And the Family and Medical Leave Act allows maternity leave for a spouse’s child. Do you ever have to explain that you are not in a polygamous relationship as opposed to a polyamorous relationship? We have been asked that before. Anne jokes around and says, “No, it’s me with one husband and one wife. They are both mine.”

That’s it. It’s officially over and it’s time to grieve. (You’re gonna grieve hard, honey, and that’s perfectly human.) In the meantime, give these triedand-true tips a go and see if we can’t check you out of Heartbreak Hotel sooner than later.

There are reasons you broke up — never forget them. cut your (insignificant) losses. Does he have books you lent him that you want back or some of your old tees at his place? Leave them. You have your own set of charms and idiosyncrasies. Someone is bound to notice them when the time is right and give you the treatment you deserve. get rid of the stuff in the house that he gave you. That dusty old Valentine’s bear sitting on your dresser serves as nothing but a reminder that he’s gone. If you can’t trash it entirely, put it in storage. Out of sight … (you know the rest). go off your mutual friends’ radar. You’re less likely to get stabbed in the heart if you don’t hear about him from someone else’s mouth or see a tagged photo of him having fun while you’re grieving at home. Lay low for a while and go off the map from folks who may bring up a really sore subject. don’t reBound With someone you’ll regret sleeping With. When the doe-eyed Tennessee boy with a shy smile reached across the table to greet me at Roxx, I immediately noticed two things: the courtesy of his “I’m shaking a girl’s hand, so don’t crush her knuckles” grip and the otter-indicative scruff of chest-hair peeking from the low collar of his white tee. His dashing features and genteel Southern accent are all lovely, but they’re mere previews of what makes Jared Allman truly hot: he’s intelligent, warm, fantastically modest, and full of memorable quotes.

THErE arE SErIouS CHanGES In HIS SEXuaL HaBITS: When you’re intimate with someone for so long, you end up with a pretty firm grasp on his sexual prowess. When out of nowhere, he wants to throw you in a sex sling or try out a strange position that seems completely unlike him, you’ve got to wonder: Where’s he learning all this new stuff? And where did this gusto come from? I need not even mention the random condoms that seem to keep piling up. Seriously? You better get on this.

Oh yeah.

HIS GrooMInG HaS InCrEaSEd SuBSTanTIaLLY: Do you remember when you began dating? You couldn’t get to the mall fast enough to pick out new clothes. From head to toe, you made sure you were the most attractive version of yourself. When you both slipped into the bliss of relaxed couplehood, a few ‘personal upkeeps’ suffered, but that’s to be expected. So why is he all the sudden worried about looking polished for his “work meetings” and what’s the deal with all the new cologne and marriage to the mirror? HE pICKS FIGHTS. You’ve never been strangers to openly disagreeing about certain things, but does he have to go out of his way to argue with you about every little thing? It seems like that’s the only way he can communicate. And does he have to storm out of the house and not answer his phone, leaving you devastated, confused, and unable to reach him? He does if he wants to make time for his other relationship. Any excuse to get him out of the house and off your map will do.

You’re not the paranoid a fool. if you’re secure not cheating, you don’t article, do you?

type, but you’re also not and you know he’s really need to read this

But since you stuck around, you might have an inkling that your beloved might not be yours alone. Hey, you know him best, so if he’s been this way for a while, he might always be this way … but if these clues are suddenly cropping up in multiples, you might wanna heed the big red flags. No one wants to be blindsided, so take your blinders off, honey.

HIS CELLpHonE SpEaKS For HIM: Doesn’t it strike you odd that every time his phone rings lately, he leaves the room? And what’s up with those weird calls and texts in the middle of the night? Not that you were snooping, but when you went to use his cellphone, you noticed his passcode had changed, and even when he does check his inbox in front of you, he shifts his body to cover the screen. These are all bad signs. THErE arE SIGnIFICanT CHanGES In HIS SCHEduLE: He’s always been available, but now it seems he’s always got something planned … and you’re never a part of it. Whether it’s lunch dates with coworkers, going long at the gym, spending facetime with his family, or anything else that you used to do together, you’ve got to start wondering why you’re cut out. HE ConSTanTLY TaLKS aBouT THE End oF THE rELaTIonSHIp. He’s always talked about your future as a couple, so why is he so curious about what would happen if you broke up? Questions like “What would we do with the dog if we broke up?” or “Would you move out or would you want me to go if this didn’t work out?” should sound an alarm in your head. No happy couple is harping on relationship gloom and doom. He’s contemplating a bailout. HE IS SuddEnLY dISTanT. It’s a real chore to get him to leave the guest bed and come back to sleep with you. You don’t even bother with trying to get him to cuddle anymore. What’s even more distressing is his insistence on spending the night at his “sister’s” house and his gradual pullout from your happy home in general. It seems like he doesn’t want to be around you for a reason — he doesn’t.

If you’ve noticed any of these behaviors but haven't acknowledged them, you’re not doing either of you any favors. Chances are, if he’s acting distant or just plain nasty toward you it’s because he’s trying to push you into breaking up with him. our adVICE? SIX EATS TO MAKE THAT HOTTIE NAUGHTY Berlin Sylvestre, Staff Writer

Perhaps they’re superstition, but why look a gift horse in the mouth? Attributed mostly to their ability to bring on the “feel good” vibes, this list of culinary aphrodisiacs could make for a happy ending to you and your lover’s fine feast. Oysters The most famous of all aphrodisiacs, and perhaps the most dangerous, oysters are rich in rare amino acids that trigger increased levels of sex hormones. Said to be most effective when eaten raw, these bivalve mollusks were a favorite of world-renowned lover Casanova, who was rumored to eat up to 50 for breakfast.

Asparagus First appearing in the 15th century’s “The Perfume Garden” (an Arab version of “The Kama Sutra,” basically), this sensual stalk has long been touted for its boost to sexual prowess. A member of the lily family, asparagus is high in folic acid, which is said to bolster histamine production, which is necessary for the ability for both sexes to reach orgasm.

Vanilla Prized for its ability to help you “relax,” this variety of orchid (yes, it’s an an orchid!) can be the perfect complement to those glasses of red wine you keep tossing back. A study by Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center reported a 63 percent reduction in anxiety among patients receiving vanilla aromatherapy. Perhaps a nice vanilla-based cocktail will oust your butterflies as you try and woo the gorgeous creature across the table.

Avocado The Aztecs had a name for the avocado tree: “ahuacuatl,” which literally translates “testicle tree.” (The fruit often grows in pairs and tends to dangle.) Among other nutrients, avocados are high in Vitamin E, known as “the sex vitamin” for its beauty enhancing properties.

Honey Sweet and sticky, honey is a natural source of boron, a mineral that helps the body use and metabolize estrogen, the female sex hormone, and may enhance testosterone levels in the blood. Boron is also responsible for promoting sex drive and orgasm in both men and women.

Chocolate Pure chocolate is the king of natural aphrodisiacs, with its main claim to fame being phenylethylamine (PEA), commonly known to scientists as the "love chemical" for its ability to release dopamine in the pleasure centers of the brain that peak during orgasm. PEA induces excitement, attraction and euphoria. Plus, it’s delicious, so ...

Be sure to stock your fridge and ready your recipes before your date arrives. The idea of your lover getting turned on by ingesting something you’ve cooked (or paid for at a restaurant) is icing on a very sexy cake.

ORCHID DAZE: SURREAL BEAUTY ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDEN

02.16.2013 DJ JOE GAUTHREAUX HERETIC 10 P.M.

The Fuqua Conservatory lobby in the Atlanta Botanical Garden will bloom with the natural spectacle of orchids with an artistic twist. Mirrors that enlarge, contort, fragment, and bend reflections will distort both plants and viewers into bizarre and beautiful forms, making visitors a part of the exhibition. The Orchid House will feature magnificently patterned slipper orchids and a “Moth Orchid Blast” will burst from the facing wall in dazzling canary and sienna hues. This is a great opportunity to see rare and delicate orchids in their full majesty. Tickets are $18.95. 02.16.2013 AND 03.02.2013

Joe Gauthreaux is back! Known coast to coast for turning the party out, Gauthreaux has worked with some of the hottest names in the business, making hit remixes for Adele (“Skyfall”) and The Wanted (“I Found You”). The party starts at 10 p.m. and is free of charge until 11 p.m. After that, it’s still only $10.
