fter a horrific train derailment beside Atlantic Station shipping containers have been strewn about below the complex. Normally authorities would worry about oil or chemicals seeping in the ground from the damaged containers, but the contents on this train were different. They were full of demonic artifacts that were safely imprisoned in shipping containers. Strange things have been going on at Atlantic Station ever since the accident and the disturbances are becoming more and more terrifying. This nightmarish scenario is Atlanta’s newest haunted attraction called “Containment” and it's the brainchild of Entertainment Design Group (EDG). They’re the same group 20 : October 24, 2013
that produced the lighting of the Macy’s Christmas tree at at Lenox Square and the giant peach drop at Atlanta Underground. FENUXE Magazine recently spoke to Rick Clark from EDG about creating Atlanta’s newest haunted attraction. “I try to make it unique,” Clark explained, “I try to break out of the traditional concept of going into a big dark space with a lot of different rooms.” With a background in theatre and a master of fine arts degree Clark focuses on making a quality production for his audience from start to finish. “It is a top-of-the-line experience,” he explained, “A super-quality fear experience.” And Clark knows what he’s talking about when it comes to
fear. He’s an expert on creating haunted houses and has years of experience building them throughout the country. But there is something truly unique about the haunted house his team has created for Atlantic Station. “We try to take each space and make it pop out. So, it's not just a lot of black paint,” Clark said. To create the desired scary effects needed for Containment, Clark’s team uses “very specific lighting and actors,” he added. “We always try to build in a distraction so your attention goes there and then the actor can have that final moment and scare. We try to distract people so they don't know where to look or where to stand. When they’re disoriented we can give them that final moment of—you know—fear,” Clark detailed.
Creating that final terrifying moment takes a lot of work from Clark’s team, but als oa dedicated team of ac tors and makeup art ists as well. “The running cast is 49 people pe r night,” Clark expla ined. But you can’t just stick an actor in sca ry make-up and ha ve them jump out and scream boo. “They ne ed to be coached on th e timing of the wh ole thing,” Clark expla ined about the actor s. With 23 different sce nes in “Containmen t” the actors have to learn the story an d timing of the show similar to a theatri cal production on stage . If the timing is off the show won’t be as sca ry. Being an actor at “C ontainment” not on ly requires great tim ing, but it requires a good bit of patienc e as well. The acto rs must arrive an hour and a half before th e attraction opens so they can get into th eir elaborate costumes and scary makeup. “To save time we have four makeup statio ns and we train the ac tors to do the basic stuff themselves. Then th e makeup artists bu ild from that base by adding prosthetics or hair,” Clark said.

Movies That Make You Go
Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Fashion Director
Halloween (1978) This is Jamie Lee Curtis' first film role, where she proves she can really scream after being chased by the murderous and psychotic Michael Myers.
Psycho (1960) Master of horror Alfred Hitchcock re-invented the genre and introduced what would later become a horror movie staple: the shower scene where someone is stabbed to death!
Pet Cemetary (1989) The film is an adaptation of the Stephen King book of the same name. In it a grieving father buries his son in a sacred burial ground only to have him resurrect as an evil little killer...
The Witches of Eastwick (1987) The movie is a mix of comedyfantasy with a splash of horror with stars Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon as mistresses of Jack Nicholson who is your not so average horny, little devil.
Hocus Pocus (1993) Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy are resurrected witches who want to regain their youth by absorbing the life force of children.
The Descent (2005) As if becoming trapped in an unexplored cave system isn't creepy enough the members of the expedition gone wrong are hunted by flesh-eating creatures.
28 Days Later (2002) Only a handful of survivors after a virus has laid the entire world bare search to make contact with others only to find out that all other humans are not dead but zombies.
Funny
Death Becomes Her (1992) This dark comedy stars Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn in some of their best comedic work ever. They discover the fountain of youth from where things go terribly wrong...
Freaky
Carrie (2013) The tale of the timid high school girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers was originally made in 1976 based on the Stephen King of the same name (a good read btw.). This year it is being not so much remade as reimagined in a contemporary world, and there is no doubt that modern special effects will make the famous breakdown where Carrie unleashes her full telekinetic terror on the school that has ridiculed and outcast her, a scary but amazing sight to behold. In Theatres now.
The Ring (2002) The remake of the Japanese 1998 film is an effective psychological thriller which constantly keeps you second-guessing – and jumping from fear more than you'd want!

Atlanta's Homeless Youth D. David Kinney, Digital Editor
Where do you go when you’re sixteen and your parents kick you out of the house because you’re gay? Being forced onto the streets is traumatizing no matter your age, but when you couple that with being rejected by your family, the emotional and physical toll becomes unimaginable.
L
As if this wasn’t enough for homeless kids to handle they must also contend with people who want to take advantage of them. “The biggest thing that gay kids on the street have to deal with are the creepers. The older gentlemen in our community that get the kids hooked on drugs to keep them under their wrap,” Westbrook explained.
“Stats show us that three out of five kids who come out before the age of twenty-five are disowned. Based on the stories we hear here in the South I would say our numbers are four out of five,” Westbrook noted, “They’ve been kicked out by the parents and turned away by their churches.”
One of the first kids that Lost-N-Found Youth helped was saved from a creeper the group calls the ‘bed leveler’. “This man found the young guy outside of a club and got him hopped up on drugs,” Westbrook said, “The man got him addicted and so co-dependent that the young man actually thought the creeper loved him. We called him the ‘bed leveler’ because during
ost-N-Found Youth was created two years ago to tackle this sobering reality head on. FENUXE recently spoke to Rick Westbrook, the executive director at Lost-N-Found about their work and the state of gay homeless youth in Atlanta.

the middle of having sex with this young man he would stop and level the bed.” Lost-N-Found heard about the young man through the community and they immediately sprang into action to save him. “We physically went and got this young man from the house and we took care of him for two weeks. He was one of our first kids two years ago. But the guy had him so strung out on drugs that he couldn’t function,” Westbrook remembered. Lost-N-Found Youth was really close to saving the young man, but the power of drug addiction lured him back to the streets. “But we don’t give up on these kids,” Westbrook added, “We keep track of them as much as they’ll let us--through Facebook,
generation because of the lack of information they had. Initially I thought that I should go to Youth Pride. But I couldn’t get Youth Pride to let me in to talk to the kids. So, I decided I would go to the streets and talk to them and hand out condoms. My friend Art Izzard told me where the kids were living on the streets and we saw queer kids living on the streets. Art and I went to different shelters and asked why queer kids weren’t getting taken care of. Our community donates lots of money to different organizations and they should be taken care of. The shelters told us that they couldn’t stay in contact with the kids to fully help them. So, thats when I got together with some other volunteers because this had to stop.” But how do you stop a homeless gay youth problem in the South where homophobic parents and churches toss gay kids aside? “We called a community meeting two years ago to let the community know about the problems out there,” Westbrook said, “Initially we were just going to take kids in for a couple of days until we could get them into CHRIS Kids or Covenant House. We thought it would be two or three kids per night, but the second night we had nine kids. We were putting them up in a hotel rooms that we had established a good rate with.”
texts, or calls. They know they can call the hotline and talk to one of us.” Even a small change in someone’s life can make a difference and two years later Westbrook learned that Lost-N-Found Youth’s involvement really did help the young man. “I was at a beer bust last Sunday and all of the sudden I looked up and saw him. He looked fabulous. I pulled him to the side and asked him how he was doing. He said he appreciated everything Lost-N-Found did for him and that the had turned his life around,” Westbrook recounted tearfully, “He told me that when we were helping him he wasn’t ready to get off drugs and it took him getting arrested and imprisoned to get clean. But he said he saw we were having a fundraiser and he wanted to come in and tell us that he got better.” In between meeting the young man two years ago and the beer bust, Lost-N-Found Youth has grown tremendously and helped countless gay homeless youth. The organization started when Westbrook was working for the MISTER Center as an outreach specialist. “My job was to go out and talk to men about safe sex at events and bars, but I quickly realized that people over thirty should get it by now--they were either going to play safe or not,” Westbrook explained, “However, the growing number of people getting HIV were from the younger
Meanwhile Westbrook was still working at the MISTER Center during the day and helping the homeless youth at night. “I was running between nine rooms to check on the kids,” Westbrook said, “But it still wasn’t helping the problem because we couldn’t get the kids into other place. So, we made a decision after two weeks that we needed to rent a house of our own.” Lost-N-Found Youth raised money through fundraisers and donations from the community so they could rent a six bedroom house in Atlanta’s West end. “We have a person that lives on-site and in the house we can help six kids at a time,” Westbrook added. But Lost-N-Found Youth doesn’t give up on kids in need when they’re out of space. “Of course while we have six kids in the house we’re always trying to find places for kids that we don’t have space for or we’re doing street support. If it’s cold weather we’ll run tents supplies, sleeping bags, and food to kids living under bridges,” he explained. After a year of battling the gay homeless youth problem hands on Lost-N-Found Youth called that called for another community meeting. “We let everyone know that we needed to up the ante,” Westbrook summarized, “So, we got together as a board and came up with a three tiered solution based on the things we saw the first year. The first thing was that we needed a drop-in center--plain and simple. There’s no place for homeless youth to go congregate, get together, or get services. Second, we noticed the kids we were helping lacked skills that they could market themselves with for job interviews. Third, we had an abundance of clothes, furniture, and different things donated to us to help the kids, but needed a way to store and utilize the donations. These donations are important because

when the kids graduate from the program we help them apartment and provide some furnishings” In true Lost-N-Found Youth fashion when the group encountered a problem they put their heads together and created a solution. “We thought we should just nip this problem in the bud and open up a thrift store. That way we can house everything that we’ve got and bring the kids in and teach them how to do customer service and work a cash register. At the same time it would be a vital source of income for the house and allow us to give the kids walking around money when they’re interviewing for jobs.” The new plans for a thrift store addressed both the kids’ needs for marketable skills and provided a way for Lost-N-Found to organize, store, and utilize the physical donations they were receiving. But the organization still felt that a drop-in center is desperately needed in Atlanta. So, the Lost-NFound’s board and volunteers got together and put plans in place for a drop-center to open this year. “I’m proud to say we’re ahead of schedule on all of our new projects, Westbrook reported. However, he wasn’t able to give us the location of the new drop-in center and store because they’re still working out the details. “We still have some things to work out, but the thrift shop will open this year along with the drop-in center before it gets too cold. We need to get the kids to come in so we can find out what’s going on with them on a daily basis and get them the services they need. We’ve also found a new house that we will be announcing very soon that will allow us to house eighteen kids upstairs and probably an emergency shelter for twenty-four kids,” he detailed. The entire team at Lost-N-Found Youth work around the clock to help Atlanta’s gay homeless youth, but they can’t everything needed themselves. They rely on a large and dedicated group of volunteers. “Our volunteers are the most incredible group of people.
38 : October 24, 2013
We have straight couples with children helping us and older couples. We’ve got an outreach team that answers the hotline--they’ve gone above and beyond,” Westbrook said. Westbrook knows that the secret to getting volunteers to help Lost-N-Found is to make being a volunteer as easy as possible. “We really focus on making it easy to volunteer and we provide several ways to get involved,” Westbrook confirmed, “We have a volunteer orientation once per month and we get from five people to twenty-five people. During the hour or so orientation we explain what we are, why we are, and what we do. It’s basically just a conversation we have with everyone in the room.” Westbrook also keeps the volunteers’ expectations in check during the orientation because of the nature of dealing with homeless youth. “I tell them: Look if you’re going to be working with our youth this is what you need to expect. It’s not glamourous, but it’s very rewarding. I warn them that they’re going to hear a lot of stuff from these kids that is really depressing. We want to prepare our volunteers for that,” Westbrook explained. Lost-N-Found Youth wants as many great volunteers as they can get; however, the safety of the kids remains paramount. “We do a background check on everyone that wants to help our group,” Westbrook said. Whether you want to help out everyday or just once every so often Lost-N-Found Youth could use your help. “We have volunteers that come in and do art classes, movie nights, and another group that does job training skills like interviewing and how to dress. We always need volunteers for “The Big Gay Game Show” which is our monthly fundraiser. We even have a volunteer that comes in and does individual and group counseling with the children,” Westbrook said.
Any volunteer can positively impact the lives of the kids at Lost-N-Found Youth by helping with even mundane tasks. “Our biggest problem at the beginning was dirty dishes in the sink. I didn’t realize that a lot of these kids didn’t know how to wash a dish or use the dishwasher. So, we have great volunteers who come in and help the group learn those skills,” Westbrook explained. Even though Lost-N-Found Youth has been successful at helping homeless kids Westbrook isn’t satisfied. He knows there are still many more children on the streets than the group can help and wants a chance “to sit down with Mayor Reed or the Homeless Czar and explain to them what homeless youth face. I would tell them: You arrest our kids for panhandling and you spend $75 a day to house them. I can do it $24 while putting a roof over their head, clothes on their back, teaching them needed life skills, and MARTA passes to go on interviews,” Westbrook pointed out. Westbrook talks the talk, but he also walks the walk--literally. Every year Westbrook leaves the comfort of his home to join Atlanta’s homeless population on the streets for a 48-hour vigil. He uses the time to learn how to directly reach out to Atlanta’s homeless gay youth and learn how to better reach them during the year so that Lost-NFound can provide them with lifesaving services. This year’s 48-hour vigil starts on November 1st at 9 p.m and goes until November 3rd at 9 p.m. Immediately following Westbrook’s outreach on the streets there will be a Lost-N-Found Youth 48-hour Vigil Celebration with the Armorettes at Burkhart’s Pub. Proceeds from the event help fund Lost-N-Found Youth throughout the year. For more information on how you can help Lost-NFound Youth visit lostnfoundyouth.org.

PET SAFETY AT HALLOWEEN
Halloween is actually one of the least favorite holidays for pets. As a matter of fact it is the time of year where most pets are lost, get food poisining or get overly stressed so observe these guidelines to make this Halloween less spooky for your pet.
Mikkel Hyldebrandt, Fashion Director
As if your dog could get anymore adorable try dressing him or her up in a pet Halloween costume this year. Serious cuteness alert! However, as with most things in life too much of a good thing can take your pet from totally adorable to uncomfortable and scared. Enjoy Halloween with man’s best friend while keeping your pal safe.
MAKE SURE TO CLOSE THAT DOOR!
A front door that is open a little too long to accomodate trick or treaters is the perfect opportunity for your pooch to make a great escape – and with all the commotion it might not be discovered right away at which point Fido can be far from home already.
Raptor Dog Costume, $36
DON'T SCARE YOUR DOG
Want to test out the creepiness of your costume on your dog? Bad idea as he may get really scared or confused about the stranger that smells like you but looks nothing like you in the room. So leave the scaring for the neighborhood kids...
Dog Riders Harness Halloween Costume – Cowboy, $38
NO TREATS
Make sure that the bowl of candy is well out of the way from your dog. Too many dogs are brought in to animal hospitals each year because they have eaten a bowlful of chocolate candy including the candy wrappers – a dangerous and potentially leathal diet for any dog.
Butterfly Dog Costume, $35
Green Skeleton Dinosaur Dog Costume by Anit, $30
4 RULES FOR YOUR PET'S COSTUME
1 2
The costume should in no way be constricting or uncomfortable for the animal – your pet should be able to move, breathe, bark and drink normally. Don't let your pet wear the costume too long at the time and always keep an eye on them at all times.
42 : October 24, 2013
3 4
If your pet shows any signs of distress like a down tail, quick breathing or even whining and barking you should immediately take the costume off. Don't wait till the last minute to put your pet in a costume. Instead do a test run to see if your pet is potentially allergic to the costume or if it is too uncomfortable.
OFF THE CHAIN. ALWAYS.

scorpio [OCT. 23 – NOV. 22]
As the hazy skies of Indian summer toughen up to a vibrant azure, so it is with you—you hit your stride at breakneck speed, running in peak form, in the lead on the 2nd. Do not be distracted, do not be complacent, do not let go—now is the time for you to give your project your all. There is plenty of time to celebrate your victory in the near future. Do book your event with Naja Elieva of A Handy Little Company so you can dress to impress. As far as that costume goes, make sure you have enough of your parts covered to avoid frostbite if you go trick or treating.
SAGITTARIUS [NOV. 23 – DEC. 21]
So, you have a sudden, unexpected hankering for some pampering and TLC? You want to have your besties there with you for the thrills and pranks, but want to see if you can do it on your own? How do you relegate conflicting desires? Easy-peasy my main squeezy—don’t be so absolute in your causes. Vacillation, yes--even petty flakiness have their places at times. Your glorious successes have bolstered your confidence, these weeks have been difficult. It is not easy to have the ability to take responsibility for everything. Just remember, everything is a process and you have the ability to change tact, to change direction, anything you truly wish for is within your power. You will be tickled pink on the 7th, mark my words.
Capricorn [DEC. 22 – JaN. 19]
after dark
AQUARIUS [JaN. 20 – FEB. 18]
Okay, so the lovey-dovey phase is over for now. Does that mean you have to end the entire relationship!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT! Think about it for a little second, honey, it is not so much as what she isn’t doing for you and how much time you have invested in everything, as it is about the fact that this person cares about you and you about her. So settle DOWN on the 23rd! Do you really need to throw the baby out with the bathwater? Use your fingers, a coffee filter, a sieve, but don’t let your über-sensitivity drive you to abandon everything in one demonstrative go. Hang in there if only to see if you can learn balance a bit better on the seesaw.
PISCES [FEB. 19 – MaR. 20] Pisces, be good. Play fair. It is just not right to up and leave the party because nobody played your favorite song. Yeah, sure, Naja Elieva is supposed to be a mind reader, but the congruity between what you say, and what you do is fully up to you. Know that you are the mastermind now and always, and it is okay to design things to your liking. You will be honored on the 2nd. Cut those who see things differently from you a break—just how boring would it be if everyone did things the same way, hmmm?
ARIES [MaR. 21 – apR. 19]
So what do you want to go as this year? Something new? Startling? Tight? Red? Billowy? Do you want to end up looking like a giant fishing lure? There is a good chance that you will not only overstep your boundaries on the 24th, but overstay your visit on the 26th as well. Remember, fish and fishing lures start stinking after three days. Share with your catch, er, I mean share your catch.
Chipmunk it sweetypie. Save up for a rainy day, pack it up and hang on to your glorious wins for the winter. Savor the delight of your stockpiled kisses, just waiting to be hungrily devoured. The 25th will bring you unexpected delights—have a large, sturdy bag with you. Chocolate. Almond Joy. Mr. Goodbar. The time of Chocolate is upon us and you are ready for it. Learn to accept compliments with Grace. She has a stockpile of really good manners that would behoove you to emulate. On top of that, she does phenomenal hair. Speaking of which, have you ever thought of trying to maybe, shall we say, “updating” your look? Seriously, child, this is starting to go from classic to sooo last century. Don’t worry--your good nature and natural beauty will save you from any fashion police raids.
52 : October 24, 2013
Taurus [apR. 20 – May 20] what saunters at sundown, casts abysmally pathetic come-hither-looks, and just stalks away when someone finally smiles at you? Why would you tease and leave? Stick to your guns, hang with your plan on the 29th. This one is for the long haul if you can be real and share. You might want to incorporate a twerk or two to freshen things up…just sayin’….
GemIni [May 21 – JUN. 22] The 31st is your day. What you do with it, however, will be determined by someone you wish were closer to you. You can agree to disagree and follow in their footsteps where a very enjoyable time awaits you, or you can dig your heels in, cross your arms over your breasts and hyperventilate (with nicely rouged cheeks and lips). In order to gain ground on your adversary, you’ll have to hunker down and just work for a change. No “mental health personal days” –nope. Chunk your stuff into doable little forays and check it off in indelible ink as it is done. finished. Out of your hands.
CANCER [JUN. 21 – JUl. 22] So, you thought you could dance. Not with that crazy dude plucking at the fiddle with a crown of thorns on his head. Everything was burning down. People started spitting on the flames, then emptying their Dixie cups into it, pissing in the wind. They got all wet. So here you, come Saviour Dude, in Spandex, Dayglo and the mark of a handsome man--the two-day beard. Gather up your shiniest accoutrements (your eyes dear), know you are loved. The 7th is the perfect time to relax and snuggle.
LEO [JUl. 23 – aUG. 22] Between the 8th-10th, you will meet someone life changing. An offer will come your way arise for a trip to the country--take it. You won’t need to dress up for Halloween—you will be dressed. A bit of royal blue goes a very, very long way, so take it easy with that stuff! Pay close attention to everything that is given to you—something is not what it appears to be.
virgo [aUG. 23 – SEpT. 22] You are a master of duty, maker of rules. It is time to try something sweet and sassy, time to hear, and then to do. On the 3rd, take the chance. It may not be huge for you, but it is so worth the world to someone else. Also, busy as you are, do not, I repeat, do not neglect your personal grooming. See to it that you are fresh, sweet and suave, particularly before the 2nd.
libra [SEpT. 23 – OCT. 22]
You know everything and everyone, you always do everything at the right time. It is overwhelming to be in demand all the time. Would people love you the same without the titles? Yes. The 2nd will show you again that it is really about the content. Let your light shine, be silly, be abrubt—oh, heavens, be rude for a change and fart in public! A rose by any other name….
