LABOR DAY IS just around the corner and it’s around this time each year we decide what we will do as our last “hoorah” to the summer season. In Atlanta, however, this also marks the time when so many in our community start the judgment. Who would celebrate Black Gay Pride? Why on earth would you go to Southern Deca-

dence? I remember last year scrolling through the status updates of my facebook friends as they sounded off their disapproval of Black Gay Pride and Southern Decadence. As a community we get so fired up when a socially conservative politician or authoritative figure starts mouthing off about something which has nothing to do with them. The gay mantra to our enemies: Stay out of business which doesn’t concern you. Why must we copy their ill-mannered behavior? This year consider incorporating our mantra into your own outlook. Fenuxe even encourages you to participate in both of these festivals. Stop the judgment, explore the unfamiliar.

Osteoporosis and HIV According to various studies, evidence of osteopenia was found in 21-45 percent of people with HIV. It is unknown what role if any antiretroviral therapy (ART) plays in the development of osteoporosis, but several researchers have noted significantly higher rates in people taking protease inhibitors, a specific class of HIV drugs. However, there have also been reports showing high rates of bone mineral density loss in antiretroviral-naive people; that is, people with HIV who are not taking ART. Prolonged duration of infection or some mechanism linked to HIV may be a key factor in the prevalence of osteoporosis in HIV-infected people.

• Low Body Weight and/or Weight Loss are associated with increased risk for osteoporosis. Body Mass Index (BMI) less than 20-25kg/m2 and/or a weight loss of greater than 10 percent of usual or ideal body weight are strong risk factors. • Chronic Diseases affecting the kidneys, lungs or GI tract or which alter hormone levels increase the risk for osteoporosis. Diagnosis of osteoporosis is based on reduced bone mineral density (BMD) as measured by DXA scan. This scan is expensive but is usually covered by insurance. Treatment may include • Counseling about risk factors and contributing factors to osteoporosis; • Calcium (1200mg) and Vitamin D (1000 IUs) supplementation; • Hormone replacement if hypogonadal; and • Medication therapies to specifically treat osteoporosis, such as • Bisphosphonates,

Bisphosphonates, most commonly Alendronate (brand name Fosamax), are the best treatment options for HIV-infected people with osteopenia or osteoporosis. It is the preferred agent based on current research. However, gastrointestinal intolerability and/or compliance issues can greatly affect its efficacy. If these issues exist, Reclast is a good alternative. It is another brand-name bisphosphonate which is administered intravenously over 15 minutes once a year.

What’s your risk? Talk to your medical professional about bone density, particularly if you have any of the risk factors noted and/or are over 50. People with HIV should have this discussion with your doctor at your next appointment. Be vigilant. Be healthy. The Day After

Decadence

Southern Decadence is definitely one

of the most, well, for lack of a better word, decadent festivals of the year. We don't mean decadent the way your mama taught you. No mint chocolate rich desserts here. We are talking hunks, sleeveless, hot, sweaty hunks, parading around the French Quarter of New Orleans in all their gay hot gloriousness. Delicious! However, if the name of the busiest street in the French Quarter is any indication, the day after is not so hot. Here are seven phrases you never want to hear the day after decadence. "Thanks for a great night, sexy. How do you like your eggs cooked? The wife's downstairs making breakfast right now." "Man! It's a miracle they were able to clean that stain off Bourbon Street! Apparently etouffee doesn't sit well with you!" "Thanks for your considerable contribution and donation to The Alliance for the Growth of Palm Trees of Audubon Zoo. Your complimentary baby zebra will be delivered in two weeks." "You know, now that I think of it, we didn't have any formal introductions last night. My name's Paula, you've got sexy lips." "Your available balance is zero dollars and zero cents." "Hello, am I speaking to the owner of this number? We're calling to inform you your sperm has been accepted. Thank you." "I didn't know you had it in you! Dancing on top of the bar really takes courage! The whole no-underwear bit was awesome!"

EVERYONE WHO HAS ever traveled out of town for pride or any other type of festival has been struck with the conundrum of how to dress for an entire day away from your hotel room. There is always the option of going back to your room for a minor respite from fun, but then, of course, you run the chance of missing something or someone. Fenuxe has five tips to help you survive a day of festival fun, dinner with friends and a night of dancing with strangers without the need to whip a costume change.

ONE LONG DAY

NIGHTTIME NECKLACE

Blinging necklaces may be no-no for the day time, but very important for the evening. We suggest wearing your dog tag or pendent longer. It will be hidden during the day, but can be uncovered at night when you’re ready to party. Fenuxe likes this pendant by Teno available at Best of Atlanta winner Worthmore Jewelers.

ADAPTABLE SHIRT

Fenuxe suggests, for your day long party adventure, you grab a sporty shortsleeved collared shirt. Our favorite? The Ben Sherman Check Shirt. Start the day with a couple of buttons un-done at top and bottom to help you look hot while keeping cool. Then at dinner button it up to a, ahem, respectable level. At the club you can let it all hang out if you so desire.

FUNCTIONAL PANTS

Shorts may be fine for an afternoon of festival hopping, but they have no place at a dinner with friends or on a dance floor (unless you are a go-go boy and the shorts are short shorts). Most jeans are too heavy to wear on a hot day. That’s why Fenuxe chooses the five pocket low-rise linen cotton jean from Lacoste. They are light and airy for the heat of the day, but stylish enough for a night of fun. The five pocket design means you can leave the manny-pack at the hotel.

LIGHT LOAD

Be certain when traveling you carry only what you need and leave the rest in your hotel safe. For a day out on the town all you need is your id, credit/atm card, a little cash, and your hotel key card. All of these can be easily fit into a small card case or a money clip. We love the Card Holder by Prada; sexy, sleek and practical.

SENSIBLE SHOES

Lose the sandals. When you plan on spending the day traipsing around a strange town you’re opening yourself up to blisters, sores and moody moods. Opt for a pair of sporty perforated shoes. Our favs are the Converse Chucks that can be had in canvas or sexy leather. They keep you safely cool during the day and stylish at night. 16

ISSUES OF Redundancy By Sam Peng In the late 1990s Oprah conducted an experiment where she asked people to rank various ethnic groups labeled A, B, C and D. Three young children of different races were asked to put them in order of prominence. Each of them placed A at the top and their own group at the bottom. After doing so they all began to sob and then the adults in the room followed suit. The letter A denoted Caucasians. This experiment got me wondering, on the eve of Black Gay Pride, if I were to conduct a similar experiment with the gay community would the results be the same. Would the LGBT community be more inclusive because of all the things we have been through (marriage, don’t ask, don’t tell, Eagle raid)? With that in mind one might deduce that we would proclaim ourselves as a single unity, a group where the biased is intolerable, segregation is emancipated and the love of helping each other is primordially unconditional regardless of race. Instead of having them rank races I asked them to use one word to describe their thoughts on Black Gay Pride. A gay white male said “redundant”, a lesbian used “celebration,” a gay black male chose “energy.” Other words I got were: together, waste, unknown, party, and scary. Our thoughts are not as homogeneous as we think and racism is still a lingering issue that seems to be inextricable, even amongst our own society. We have not come far from when Oprah did her experiment. After reviewing the results of the interviews, I couldn’t help but remember a moment with my college Professor Dr. Pinkney’s. I came

22 FENUXE.COM

into his office sobbing seeking solace after hearing negative racial connotations from a college professor the previous day. That other professor told me I was too Asian, that whatever I did with my other Asian friends needed to stay out of the classroom, and that I wouldn’t go far. Dr. Pinkney, who is black, raised his fist and looked me straight into my eyes and said, “You are Sam Peng. You are Pengism. You are who you are. You are unique because there is only one of you. You have to be proud, extremely proud of everything about you. No one can ever take it away from you. Don’t you dare forget that!” I stood there motionless, basking in the limelight of empowerment. It was immensely therapeutic; finally I knew who I was. And ten years later, even more so. It doesn’t matter what race you are, you are in control of your destiny. There is nothing any person says or does that can alter the power you have instilled in you. This isn’t about race. It’s about equality, we are all the same. Whites don’t bleed white, blacks don’t bleed black, and Asians don’t bleed yellow. What’s most important is we honor and celebrate our culture, heritage and future. Black Gay Pride is a wonderful opportunity for Atlanta to celebrate the culture of the African American LGBT community. Scott Thompson Quite the Fruit

Fenuxe recently published an interview with Kids in the Hall cast member Scott Thompson on our website. Well, the piece went viral so we decided to put a portion of the interview in the magazine for those of you who missed it. Check out fenuxe.com for the complete interview and other fun content. Fenuxe: I hear you also do blog. What is your blog about? Scott: I do a fruit blog online which is basically documenting my love for fruit. And that is www.fruitblog.blogspot.com and during the tour I will be putting out a different video about fruit every week. Fenuxe: What is your favorite fruit? Scott: Mango. Fenuxe: Where does the peach rate? Scott: Well, the peach is interesting. It is like, I think the Northern Hemisphere’s poor cousin of the mango. I love a peach, but the fuzziness is problematic. Fenuxe: You don’t like the fuzziness? Scott: No not really, but then I don’t like the nectarine near as much. The texture of the peach I have a hard time with. Mango is a perfect fruit.

gooseberry, it’s kind of silly. Or the blackberry! I’m not crazy about the blackberry. You know I love a raspberry I don’t think a blackberry can even come close. Fenuxe: What would your favorite vegetable be then? Scott: (thinking) Some of them are fruits, what about a tomato? What do you do about that? Fenuxe: Do you love a tomato? Scott: Yeah a tomato is a fruit and a vegetable. I would say eggplant I love a lot, but I would have to say the carrot. The good old fashioned carrot.

Fenuxe: What is your least favorite fruit? Scott: Oh jeez, least favorite fruit. (thinks for a minute) I like an apple, but, I hate to say maybe the apple. I know it is a little … antiAmerican almost. The apple’s credit rating just got down-graded. Fenuxe: Maybe we’ll leave that out of the article so you don’t get pelted by them at the show. Scott: Yeah, people will come and throw apples at me…I don’t need that. You know what, maybe the gooseberry, I’d say the

INSIDE LOOK:

From A-list

to In-love

By Dino Thompson-Sarmiento “I don’t love you in spite of your flaws; I love you because of your flaws”, the words that changed an A-lister playboy and publishing mogul forever. This is an intimate chat with Vegas Inc Editor in Chief and Executive Producer of award winning and LGBT film festival favorite “East Side Story”. Famous friends, fashionable parties, and the most beautiful men on his arm but where was the love? Richard Perez-Feria (RPF) broke records and scored countless accolades with his triumphs in the publishing world. For years he reigned as the Latin prince within Time Inc Publishing as he elevated the status of People en Espanol Magazine to levels of recognition and readership never before seen. His accomplishments in the world of words are astonishing. His mark was left from coast to coast as he contributed to notable publications such as San Francisco Chronicle, Esquire, 7X7, Celebrity Style, Music Choice Magazine, Teen Celebrity, City Family/La Familia de la Ciudad, American Druggist, Issues In Patient Care, Medical Tribune, Gym, Burn!, TennisMatch, Miami Monthly, International Business Chronicle, SHAPE’s Fit Hollywood, JUMP, Fit Pregnancy Style, Strong and even as founding Editor-in-Chief of POZ, the first national consumer magazine for the HIV-impacted individual. His life adorned by success, fame and fortune. A sure recipe for happiness most would agree. In this revealing interview RPF shares his private struggles of intimacy and his search for love as a gay man. Richard where are you from originally? I was born to Cuban parents in Boston; I lived in Miami, New Orleans, NYC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles and currently call Las Vegas home. You have had quite a ride in your career, and it is well known that you run in celebrity studded circles including having the Conga Queen Gloria Estefan as a close friend…can you share a bit about your famous connections and impressive body of work?

Yes, it is true that Gloria and her husband Emilio are dear friends going back many, many years. My career has led me to meet many folks in the entertainment industry and good friendships have developed. My extensive resume is a direct result of working nonstop for 20 years and putting in 100 hour weeks on a regular basis. What was your most treasured accomplishment with award winning People Espanol? Definitely the 50 most beautiful people issue; for the first time ever 9 Latina divas were photographed together for the cover. Eva Longoria, Daisy Fuentes, Gloria Estefan were among the 9 dressed in skin baring white couture and draped in $5 million worth of Tiffany diamonds. History was made that day. Did you have any challenges because you were gay in this tough industry? I was taught that “No one is better than you are but you aren’t better than others” as a child – This philosophy instilled in me a sense of self worth and equality among people. I don’t recall anything systematically organized against me in regards to my sexuality. I think I am a democrat and Latino before I am gay. I expect to be judged by my character, credentials and what I bring to the table rather than be judged by who I’m sleeping with.

32 FENUXE.COM

Did you have a difficult time sharing with your Latino family that you were gay? Actually there is a funny story attached to this. I had never shared the details of my personal life with my mother. Once I left home for college I continued living in other cities so my intimate life never came in to discussion. Being a bachelor at the age of 40 was not seen as odd since my grandfather married in his 40’s and my straight brother had a long lived bachelor life as well. However, when GLAAD honored me with the “Visibilidad Award” for being an outstanding Latino, out and proud gay man I knew it was time to tell mother. I was sitting with Gloria & Emilio Estefan discussing the plan of action and they of course were encouraging me to tell mom. Gloria suggested she come with me. I immediately said sure that will not be traumatizing at all, I show up with an international super star at her door and say, “Hi Mom , this is Gloria Estefan and by the way I’m gay!” needless to say we opted for plan B. My mother was surprised but supportive. I am very lucky.

In regards to sex; Sex is not sex unless it is safe, the other option is Russian Roulette. Being honorable is not a part time job. It only takes one time to change the course of your life or that of another human. Pertaining to career choose something you are passionate about and lead with love and kindness not from anger or reaction. And most important in life, learn to breathe. The valuable message in Richards’s candid interview is to learn to love thyself so you may experience the gift of receiving love. Forgive and release whatever ails you and allow love to come in to your life. I believe your worst enemy is yourself but your best friend is also you. Stop blaming others for your unhappiness and take control, and remember love you for your flaws not despite your flaws … Watch for Richard’s memoirs, “It’s Exhausting being fabulous …and other things I told my mother”

Tell me about your love life Currently I’m the happiest I have ever been. I have been with my partner for four years and we are engaged. However, it was not an easy road to get here. I had never really had a mature relationship where both partners were fully “baked “so to speak. I demonstrated my affection through jealousy and all the characteristics that come with the green monster. Also I wasn’t comfortable in my own skin hence believing that someone truly loved me for me was a challenge. I had to learn to believe and accept that I was worth loving, worth fighting for. Before my current relationship the world was very noisy, there seemed to be a lot going on around me. When he walked in to my life it became quiet and still and comfortable. I will never forget when he said “I don’t love you in spite of your flaws; I love you because of your flaws”. At that moment I was changed forever. I want to add that as blessed as I feel it is a partnership based on a 50/50 give and take. One must learn to embrace the other fully and completely. What advice would you like to give our readers facing issues of coming out, acceptance, careers, relationships and sex? I would advise folks that the minute they get out of high school fight to stand out, celebrate who they are and highlight their uniqueness. Be the TRUE YOU. Your differences will make you shine. Hang on tight and live by the mantra and famous campaign that it does get better. FENUXE.COM

Kat Graham By Michael Vorndran

MOST PEOPLE KNOW diva-in-waiting Kat Graham from her two seasons as the witchy Bonnie Bennet on “The Vampire Diaries” or from her collaborations with superstars like Will.I.Am. But most people don’t know that she is an extremely supportive and active ally to the LGBT community. Kat took a few minutes to sit down with Fenuxe to talk about her love for drag queens and her life as an Atlantan. Fenuxe: Thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Kat: I was born in Switzerland to a Liberian father and a Russian Jewish mom. They got divorced when I was around five. I moved from there to Los Angeles with my mom and got started immediately in the whole film and TV world of going to auditions. Fenuxe: How did you get into the music side of things? Kat: I became a back-up dancer and then when I was about 15 they let me go into an engineering school to be able to engineer. I was simultaneously learning how to engineer my own music and working as an actress. I eventually got the attention of producer Will.I.Am and he asked me to get on a couple of his songs and took me on a world tour as an actual artist and not a back-up dancer Fenuxe: How would you describe your music? 36 FENUXE.COM

Kat: One of the biggest communities and the biggest scenes that really accepted me before I was on “the Vampire Diaries” and the only people who would let me get on the stage and perform was the gay community. My music is very gay, pop, dance. We have other songs that are kind of more like black girl music, you know, a little bit more attitude and stuff like that. The foundation of my music is really from the music that I listen to and the music that embraced me and the people that embraced me. Fenuxe: Did anything inspire the music on this album? Kat: I watched a movie called “Paris is Burning” and looked at all the balls and different clubs and studied things like old school drag queens and RuPaul. I wanted to make an album that was like that. I wanted to make a “Paris is Burning” album about self acceptance and empowerment. I wanted to make an album that shows you can come from nothing and still feel fabulous and still be amazing and you are all you need.

Fenuxe: Does your love for the gays go beyond just making music? Kat: Yeah, yeah big time. I think I first started doing gay activism with the NOH8 campaign. Adam Bouska let this young black girl kind of hop into the picture and from there it grew into the Trevor Project and other things. People are like, “You are not gay, so, what does it mean to you?” And I am like well, love is love. I come from a place where my parents were told they couldn’t be together because I had a black dad who was with a white woman. At the time, you know, it just wasn’t that cool. Fenuxe: Being active is a very personal thing for you then? Kat: All my friends, my manager, my team are gay. I was raised by people who were gay and it never really crossed my mind, until I got older, that the people who were taking care of me didn’t even have the same rights that I did. I made it a part of my mission early on. The second I get on, the second that somebody gives me an inch I am going to run a mile for the gay community and I am never gonna to stop until we win. It has just been a huge passion

of mine. Even coming to Atlanta, I remember the first season of “The Vampire Diaries.” I don’t think our cast or crew knew me that well and suddenly they see me riding down a float with two drag queens. They are like, “What? Who is this girl?” Fenuxe: Speaking that, when you found out you were going to film “The Vampire Diaries” in Atlanta where you nervous about moving to a southern city? Kat: Yeah, I really got nervous. I found out I was moving to Atlanta. I was moving to the south and I am thinking rappers, I am thinking, you know, mac and cheese and southern food and old men on their balconies with their shot guns. (laughs) I was like oh my gosh I am not going to fit in. And then I got here and discovered midtown and discovered Jungle and Blake’s and I was like I found where I belong. I found where my friends are. Atlanta has been a great place for me to find a home. Fenuxe: You have been able to make some good friends here in Atlanta? Kat: My first friends I met out here were all drag queens. The whole Brook’s family. They let me be a part of the House of Brooks. It is a big deal. It is a lot more than just sequins and dance music. This world is about empowerment, faith and self acceptance. It has completely influenced my life. Fenuxe: That means your overall impression of Atlanta is a positive one? Kat: I found peace. (At first) I was very nervous as to what kind of place I would be living in and if they would be accepting of who I was and who my friends were and my lifestyle and where I like to hang out. I found that in Atlanta and I found it above and beyond what I thought it was going to be. There is such a beautiful amazing community out here. I am just in love.

Dear Perfectly Reasonable in Any Situation but This One:

Dear Mary, My boyfriend asked me to go to Southern Decadence with him this year, but I can’t because of a work commitment. He is still planning on going and didn’t even ask if I wanted him to stay home with me. Is it reasonable to ask him not to go or does that make me a controlling bitch? Signed,

Reasonably Controlling?

Nope. Or, yep. I mean…no, you can’t tell him not to go. I’m firm on this. A lot of people see Decadence and Pride and other organized gay events as nothing more than party opportunities, but I get on my big, gay-rights soapbox and start chanting that it’s a lot more important than that. Then someone throws a shoe at me, cause you can’t stand on a soapbox in the middle of Decadence. Apparently no one needs to hear a straight girl praise them for refusing to hide who they are and yeah, okay, it is a bit of a celebratory atmosphere. Okay, it’s a giant party, but at this point, these events are still defining moments in the progress of the LGBT rights movement and so, no, you can’t tell him not to go. More importantly, YOU need to go! Will you literally lose your job if you don’t go? For reals? Cause if not, then you have to be there, cause yeah, this is a party that is at least in part about celebrating sexuality. And maybe you don’t want him celebrating his sexuality too much without you. And even if he is the most awesome, straight-up dedicated dude in the world (who would never over-celebrate with a new friend), do you want to force him to go to bed alone because you weren’t there? If it were anything else in the world, I would say you were being completely reasonable. As your boyfriend, it is his job to forgo everything else in the world to be by your side and lavish you with praise, affection and sweet kisses (I’m not kidding, I really think this, maybe that’s why I’m single). Then wait quietly and patiently in the corner until you need him again. But for this, you have to make an exception. Please don’t, err, I mean, Please Go,

Hard Worker or Hardly Working? LABOR DAY IS

upon us and it is time to celebrate all those men and women who spend their days working for a living. Whether you master the web, dig a ditch, or serve the customer, all jobs can be done well, or not well. Some people put everything into their jobs, but we know not everyone does. Take the quiz below and find out how your work ethic stacks up.

A. Hit snooze and start thinking up excuses. B. Jump out of bed, call work and let them know you are running late. C. Jump out of bed and head straight to work realizing when you arrive that you are only wearing your Superman Underoos and one sock. But at least you weren’t late.

2. Your boss asks you to stay late on a Friday and your reply is…

A. No way boss man I got places to be and people to do, how you doin’? B. Okay, but only if I get overtime and/or comp pay, perhaps a $10 Starbucks gift card as an added incentive. C. No problem I have a change of clothes in my desk if I need to stay the night. And don’t worry about dinner I think there is a bagel left from Monday’s client meeting.

3. When you touch your date for the first time they would remark your hands are… A. As soft (or softer) as a perfectly ripe peach picked from a tree. B. A little rough, but still nice enough to hold. C. As scratchy as the bed of a lesbian’s 1995 Ford Ranger XLT.

4. Your CFO gives you a company credit card to be used for business purposes, the first thing you do is… A. Run to the closest package store to stock up your home bar and then report the card stolen. B. Invite a few co-workers to lunch and write it off as a business expense. Well, we did talk about work, didn’t we? C. Bring it home and freeze it in a block of ice so it can only be used when absolutely necessary.

A. How much are you willing to pay me? B. Let’s talk about how we can frame this to make me look good while protecting you. C. Nothing. Then head straight to the human resources department and report them.

Now find out if you are a true southern gentleman

5. If a co-worker asked you to lie to cover-up a huge error they made you would say…

1-7 Points: Your work ethic sucks. You only work so you can pay for your nightly excursions in Midtown. If it were possible to do less you would, if only… 8-20 Points: Your work ethic is okay. You do the job you signed up for, nothing more, nothing less. 21-25 Points: Your work ethic is a little much. Seriously we get that you want to do your job and do it well, but lighten up dude…live a little.

DWNTWN SPEAKS FOR ITSELF By Malcolm Montgomery Fenuxe: Give us a little background on who you are, where you are from. DWNTWN: We are both from Los Angeles, born and raised, and have been making music together for a little over a year now. Just started playing shows around town, and our best show as of yet was just the other day at Akbar, this really rad gay bar in Silverlake. The crowd was great, everyone was welcoming, and down to have a good time, none of that hipster crossed arms bullshit. Fenuxe: What made you interested in music and getting into the industry? DWNTWN: We both had very musical families that introduced us to all types of music. Robert’s family listened to a lot of traditional Greek and Mexican music, because that’s where his parents are from. I listened to a lot of classic rock because I’m white.

Fenuxe: When does your Mixtape come out? DWNTWN: Super soon! Within a month or so check our facebook and/or twitter for updates.

We kind of got into the industry by accident, to be honest. We were making music in our bedroom for a while, not knowing what our next step would be, and our friend, unbeknownst to us, emailed our songs to DJ Skeet Skeet. A week later we were drinking coffee with the guy!

Fenuxe: For readers who may not know you just yet, describe your musical style:

Fenuxe: Who are your musical influences and why?

Fenuxe: Who is your dream person to work with/collaborate with?

DWNTWN: Evanescence. Cuz they freakin’ rule! Nah, but really, if there were an album that I had to listen to on repeat for the rest of my days it’d definitely be Dude Ranch by Blink 182. Jamie’s would be a tie between Wildflowers by Tom Petty and The Drug In Me Is You by Falling In Reverse.

DWNTWN: Third Eye Blind Circa 1996.

Fenuxe: We love DJ Skeet Skeet! How was it working with him? DWNTWN: He’s great right?! Couldn’t think of a better person to be working with. He’s super supportive and knows every one. Just walking down the street with him is an event. A biker will ride by and yell “Skeet!” while another person runs across the street and gives him a hug. True story. The man’s a legend.

56 FENUXE.COM

DWNTWN: We like to call it “Pindetro” Pop/Indie/Electro. (patent pending) Don’t jock our shit bitches. We see you… we see you.

Fenuxe: What’s next for DWNTWN? DWNTWN: What isn’t next for DWNTWN?! Jk, don’t you hate when people say that? Us too. We just finished filming a music video for our next single “Hungry Hearts” directed by Jeremy Johnstone, a super cool dude. We are focusing primarily on our live shows right now because we have a bunch lined up for the next couple of months. Who knows, maybe we’ll have one in the ATL someday soon. http://www.facebook.com/dwntwnmusic http://www.twitter.com/dwntwnmusic

HEy Girl HEy Well its time for an update on my health. My intention in this process has been to be open and honest all along so I’m sharing my struggles with you along this journey. As of this writing, I’ve lost a total of 7 pounds. While I would love for it to be a bigger number, I must admit, I haven’t given it my all. I could tell you I’ve committed to the gym but I’ve only gone intermittently. I have made some better choices with food but more often than not, I’ve overeaten at night and when I’m with friends. It’s not pretty but it’s the truth! Stress has been a factor. As my friends would tell you, I put a lot of pressure on myself with regards to my fundraising. While it is a passion, it also increases my stress levels a great deal and I tend to cope with food. Since I am up late most nights, somewhere between 2 and 4am is when I am most at risk of “indulging.” It’s my quiet time to read, listen to music or watch TV. It’s also the time I find myself giving in to those urges to snack. There’s something so comforting about going to bed with a full stomach. The other issue is going to dinner or parties with friends. If I see someone else order dessert, it’s as if I’ve received permission to eat

dessert myself. In addition, if I go to a dinner party and there is food around, I tend to go back for seconds or graze until I’m full. Anyone who has struggled with his or her weight knows how difficult it is to navigate through the world when the source of your issue is always around you. I’m not certain if food is an addiction for me or not but I know it is at least an issue. The interesting thing is most addictions require us to totally refrain from use of said addiction but we can’t do that with food. We can’t just stop eating food. So, then it becomes about choices. I don’t intend to stay stuck in this place! I can control what food I bring into my home! And I can also make better choices when I’m with my friends! My intention is to either eat before I go out to meet friends or bring my own healthy dinner to their house! Finally, I commit to going to the gym at least 3 days a week! That’s where I’m at folks. I’d love to hear your feedback. edith99@gmail.com
