Trendy Times A lot of people think trends start with highfashion designers, but one local fashion expert says that’s simply not true. “Trends, 90 percent of the time, start on the street with ordinary people,” said stylist Brandon Bryson, who is a cast member on TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids.” And the trend for the upcoming spring season is all about vintage. “Fashion is a repeating cycle and most things in your closet can be used again,” Brandon said. “For this spring/summer, the trends are combining a bit of old with a bit of new and putting a modern twist on it.” Here are a few of Brandon’s fashionable picks for 2012’s warmer months.
Duffels
For brands like Patagonia and The North Face, some of their best-selling bags have been technical duffels, so it makes total sense that we see a renewed interest in durable carry-alls from a lifestyle perspective as well. Timberland boasts a new leather-accented silhouette, while Jansport taps heritage models in nylon and canvas. The Duffaluffagus from Poler offers tuck-away backpack straps. Accessibility is key here, keeping shapes straightforward, while materials remain authentic.
Footwear
The spectator brogue provided a lively, dapper option for footwear, combining retro inspiration with contemporary materials for fresh results. While perforated brogues first emerged in Scotland 16 : MARCH 8, 2012
and Ireland in the 16th century, duotone spectator versions reached the height of popularity during the ’20s and ’30s. Different material combinations and unexpected colors—leather with suede or leather with fabric—bring a fresh perspective to this sartorial classic.
Glasses
Vintage browline glasses—a ’50s staple—embrace a witty, retro-geek aesthetic. Epitomized by the iconic Ray-Ban Clubmaster, and worn by cultural icons ranging from James Dean to Malcolm X, browline styles were popular for both optical frames and sunglasses. New plastics and thicker browbars characterize 2012 variations, often with a rimless bottom.
Clutches
The portfolio clutch is gaining popularity this season, riding the wave of iPad-friendly accessories that serve a dual purpose. An item that once held paper files now carries expensive technological devices, and the industry is capitalizing on this sudden boom with the revival of a style that reigned in the ’60s and ’70s. Ever-slimmer silhouettes emerged for spring, with envelope flap closures and sleek zippers.
Bow Ties
The bow tie continues for 2012 in fun novelty prints and bright colors. Use vintage styles to inspire paisleys, polka dots, gingham checks, foulards and neat geometric motifs. Coordinate and clash with other prints and patterns for a contemporary look.

Fenuxe: What did you like most about being a part of Fashion Star? Sarah: I walked away with so much more knowledge of the industry that I didn’t know before. I am a true emerging designer so there are a lot of things I’m unaware of. It definitely gave me more of an edge when I came back. I walked away with some great contacts and some great friends. The other designers there are amazing. It was a great time of my life.
EMERGENCE Georgia designer breaks into the fashion business
Shannon Jenkins, Associate Writer Within a year of delving into the fashion industry, Marietta native Sarah Parrott found herself in a bright spotlight. Last year, Sarah submitted two garments to Charleston Fashion Week’s emerging designer competition, and she was chosen to show her work on the runway. Then the opportunity to audition for NBC’s new reality show Fashion Star soon followed. After claiming one of the 14 spots on the show, Sarah’s leap of faith appears to have been a smart decision. Fenuxe talked with the blossoming designer about her long-time passion and where it’s taking her. Fenuxe: What’s your earliest memory of being interested in fashion? Sarah: It definitely goes back to my childhood. I’ve always had a huge passion for anything related to the industry, whether it’s photography, models, clothes. Everything about it has always intrigued me. Probably around fifth or sixth grade me and my friends would do mock photo shoots. We would cut out magazine articles and place them up on a wall and pick out clothes from my wardrobe and do photo shoots. Fenuxe: When did you get serious about fashion? Sarah: I pulled the trigger when I turned 30. I had a moment of now or never. I had my first son when I was 24, and I had another one when I was 27. So I’ve just been in mom mode. My kids are in elementary school now, so I decided to go for my dream. Fenuxe: How would you describe your aesthetic? Sarah: I definitely have a clean, modern approach. I like to keep things feminine, but I also like an edge in my designs. I also want them to be accessible. I want women to wear them and feel like they’ve invested in a very nice piece that they didn’t have to save months and months for. 18 : MARCH 8, 2012
Fenuxe: What is the greatest lesson you learned during the filming of the show? Sarah: There’s a big difference with being a designer and having your collection and creating a true brand. I didn’t understand the difference until I got there. I didn’t really know the direction I was going in as far as where my company would go, but I walked away with the understanding that you need to have a brand to succeed in the fashion industry. Fenuxe: What do you think of the fashion industry here? Sarah: Atlanta is one of those untapped resources. I feel like there are so many great designers and talents here in Atlanta. Sometimes I feel like Atlanta is recognized for other things. I definitely feel like Atlanta is one of the growing areas within the industry. Atlanta could be a great spot for the fashion industry. Hopefully I can make a mark here. “Fashion Star” Series Premier When: Tuesday, March 13, at 9:30 p.m. Where: NBC What: Watch Sarah compete with 13 other designers for a chance to win a multi-million dollar prize to launch their collections in three of America’s largest retailers: Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue. Supermodel Elle Macpherson hosts with mentors Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos.

Everything about fashion attracts me, the clothes, the shoes, the models, the lifestyle. Everything about it is just so dreamy.

Clark, the “working class dog,”
HOME FEATURE
Out With The New, In With The Old Partners repurpose furnishings and embrace art at i.d. Lab Shannon Jenkins, Associate Writer A giant Schnauzer the color of midnight greets me at the door. Clark accepts a friendly scratch on his well-groomed head and then trots off into the showroom full of repurposed furniture and original art. His furry face serves as the logo of his masters’ company, but the fame doesn’t seem to have gone to his head. “He’s a working class dog,” laughs Chris Hagen, who owns Inherent Design Laboratory (or i.d. Lab for short) in the West Midtown Design District with his partner Adam Stewart. “We made him the logo in the hopes we could write off his haircuts.” Chris claims there’s never been a happier dog in the world, and considering Chris’ light-hearted demeanor, he seems pretty chipper himself. But most people who do what they love are happy, aren’t they? Most days for Chris are spent building and repurposing furniture while Adam paints and styles hair within the nearly 8,000-square-foot space, which houses a workshop, gallery, salon and design firm. Two years ago the couple opened i.d. Lab, a name derived from Adam. 20 : MARCH 8, 2012

“He doesn’t have the design degree, but he has so much style that we make a really good pair because I do have the degree and the rules,” Chris says of his partner of 10 years. “It’s him breaking all the rules that makes it work. It comes to him naturally. It really is the mix of Adam and me together and how we gel.” Apparently that combination clicks. Since its opening, i.d. Lab has attracted a growing number of designers, craftsmen, artists and clients. “It’s kind of become a design commune of sorts,” Chris says. “I liked the idea of everybody
working towards a main goal—kind of a creative synergy.” As a member of Atlanta’s design community for at least 25 years, Chris has worked with many top interior designers and continues to create fine furnishings for them through his company. He’s currently designing all the table tops and a zinc-edged bar for the Optimist, a new seafood restaurant opening on Howell Mill Road near Octane Coffeehouse. To help produce such signature pieces, Chris enlists the help of two talented craftsmen (who are handsome, married and straight). “They love to build furniture,” Chris says. “Nowhere else would they be able to build furniture. It’s a nice, safe environment for young craftsmen.” Much like the furniture artisans, photographers and artists have also found a haven in i.d. Lab. “Our showroom shines because we have all this great art on our walls,” Chris says. “And it makes our furniture look that much better.” Recently i.d. Lab hosted the opening of New York photographer Michael Alago’s photography exhibit “Rough Gods,” attracting hundreds of gay men to the space. Although the photographs of muscled men proved quite successful, Chris and Adam share responsibility for attracting gay clientele. “Both Adam and I have a very masculine sensibility when it comes to design,” Chris says. “We’re always designing for that lake house or mountain house we don’t have. That’s what comes across in our aesthetic.” Also, Chris considers the popularity of repurposed furniture as another factor for his company’s popularity among retail clients.
Visit Fenuxe.com to view more photos of what i.d. Lab has to offer and their website www.inherentdesignlab.com
“By refurbishing old pieces and making them into something unique, I think we’ve hit a cord in the community that people seem to gravitate to,” he says. Clients, Chris says, can find that special accessory that’s going to set them apart. Chris points out a pair of lamps made from molds previously used to make doggy banks to illustrate his point. And, those everyday shoppers also have the opportunity to have custom furniture created. “We do more work with designers and less retail,” Chris says. “But it’s the retail customers who are more fun. Letting retail people be the designer is fun.” FENUXE.COM : 21
CRIB CHATTER Making Home Ownership A Zipity Duda Day!
So you’re at a cocktail party and the cutest guy ever starts chatting with you about the government foreclosure home he's buying next week from Zipity Duda. Don’t stand there with that “deer caught in the headlights” look on your mug; let him see you’re as smart as he is on real estate deals in the ATL! What is an FHA-HUD listing? An FHA HUD listing is simply a home that was previously financed with an FHA government backed mortgage. When the owner needs to surrender the property, FHA pays out the lender for the guaranty portion of the loan. HUD forecloses, obtainstitle to the home, inspects it, appraises it, and lists it for sale. You would be surprised at the quality of homes that are for sale. I’ve had some in luxury high rise buildings in midtown, Buckhead and Virginia Highlands. Be sure to find a REALTOR that has considerable and recent experience selling HUD listings since the purchase process is very different than other programs.
Why can a FHA HUD listing be a good deal for me? All FHA HUD listings are pre-inspected (with a written estimate for repairs of up to $5,000), preappraised (a $450 value good for 6 months), all past due HOA and taxes are paid by the seller, and floodplain verification is done. HUD will also pay up to 3% closing costs taking care of most of the buyer’s closing fees. There is no haggling and back
and forth negotiating, it’s a simple straightforward bidding process, you either win the bid or you don’t and if you don’t you can re-bid. Be aware if you offer over list price you’ll need proof of that additional cash on hand to pay, over and above your down payment. Buyers have a 15 day due diligence period which is longer than the usual 10 day period on non-FHA owned homes.
What kind of down payment programs are available? The FHA 203(b) program allows qualified buyers with credit scores of 640 or higher to purchase specific HUD listings for as little as $100 down. But be aware, the buyer still will need funds for earnest money (usually $1,000) and funds to connect utilities, inspection costs, and other miscellaneous fees so having around $2,000 cash on hand is a good idea. The FHA 203(k) program allows qualified buyers with 3.5% down payment to finance in repairs to the home they purchase up to 110% of loan to value ratio.
What is Mortgage Payment Job Loss Protection and how does it work? This unique and well established program (which few consumers seem to know about) is available thru the Rainy Day Foundation in Washington D.C. Someone other than the buyer pays a onetime premium of $500. The buyer’s mortgage payment is covered up to $2,000 per month, for up to six payments, for a two year period, effective two months from the day of closing. This is a great safety net giving buyers a stronger sense of security about their ability to pay their mortgage in case of a job loss. The listing agent and their broker must be registered with the foundation and submit the documentation to the foundation on behalf of the buyer prior to closing so find an agent experienced with this.

ARTIST PROFILE
Progressive Regression Patrick Hanson unveils his new artwork Shannon Jenkins, Associate Writer
“I remember as a child I was always interested in manipulating things and changing things,” Patrick said. “I painted on my toys. I still have a locker full of toys at home and probably every one of them has something on it.” Another shining moment in Patrick’s life occurred while he was working as a production assistant on the set of Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva,” which is filmed in Peachtree City. He heard art was needed for the show, so he brought in some of his works and several pieces were chosen to adorn the set. “What excites me the most about any of it— besides the exposure to millions of people—is the fact I have a platform to inspire countless others.” For more information about Patrick and his work, visit www.handsonworks.com.
Sources of inspiration for Patrick Hanson vary. Sometimes it’s a combination of colors or a scene in a movie, but many times it’s music that motivates him. The East Point artist is a huge fan of hard rock, alternative and pop. “Nine Inch Nails have always been a huge inspiration for me because Trent Reznor writes and composes in a layered way,” Patrick said. “I feel his music actually has texture.” Aside from the musical influence, Patrick’s new work reflects a recent series of difficult events within his life. In the last six months both his grandmother and father passed away, he ended a five-year relationship and he lost his job. He related all those experiences into his art. “I’m trying to remain a positive person,” Patrick admitted. “I know there are a lot of people out there who have it worse than I do. It’s been a creative crutch as well as inspiration dealing with it all.” The new pieces will be a part of his first solo art show of figurative works since 2000, and the show—titled “Progression Regression—will be on display at CherryLion Sculpture Studios beginning March 31 through April 21. “I feel like I hit a plateau on my figurative work and for the most part stopped,” he said. “I now have a new vision, direction and abilities. That is the next step for me and the reason I chose the title [because I’m] moving forward from my past.”

SPRING CLEANING
Fresh Start Since winter practically skipped Atlanta this year, it seems spring has arrived a bit early. So, basically we’re already behind on our annual commitment of spring cleaning. It’s time to rid our homes—and lives—of all that clutter. Below you’ll find some of our top suggestions for putting a little spring in your step before summer hits, which will probably be in a week or two. Those tiny rat babies living amongst the health bar wrappers, Diet Coke cans and discarded club wrist bands on your floorboards freak your friends out. Find those rodents a new home and ditch the trash. You and your passengers can breathe easier if you don’t feel like you’re riding around in a dumpster. Only wearable clothing and conservative politicians belong in a closet. Sure, your butt looks smacktastic in those Diesel jeans, but you blew out the pockets long ago and you keep losing your wallet. And unless you’re having a tormented cowboy moment, all the stained shirts need to go as well. If you haven’t learned the actual names of “Sam Scruff,” “Red Shirt” and “Boy@ Burkharts,” it’s probably time to delete them off your phone. Time to make room for new tricks…ahem… friends. Organize your desktop and personal files, for goodness sake. Would you really let your sweet mother search online for Paula Deen’s potato tot casserole when you know good and well an innocent wrong click could open up your “favorites” browser? Let’s keep those Tim Tales and Maverick Men tabs in a safer location, shall we? If you haven’t read that Lady Gaga article in the September 2010 Vanity Fair by now, you’re just not gonna. Pack up those old magazines in your home office and send them to small towns around the South. Some young rural boy who’ll one day be fabulous will certainly appreciate them.

Inspired by their real life experiences, the television show “Happily Divorced” taps into the relationship between the actress and her out TV producer ex-husband. Before the second season premiered on March 7 on TV Land, Fenuxe spoke with Fran and Peter about their lives, the show and civil liberties. Dino: Why the appeal and connection for so many fans towards the show? Fran: It speaks to many people. It is mind expanding. It exemplifies that if there was once love in the relationship the parting of ways doesn’t mean you have to throw the friendship out with the bath water. You can forgive your friends; why not your ex? Peter: When you divorce you don’t have to throw away the good part, too. If you loved someone once, it’s still there. You need to make peace. That has universal appeal. Dino: Will the show embrace topics and issues to help promote happier and healthier perceptions of the LGBT community?
38 : MARCH 8, 2012
Peter: Yes, it will show the legitimacy of equality and touch upon a variety of issues through laughter but won’t be too preachy. The more exposure on this topic will show how we are all more alike than we are different. Dino: It is my understanding that your divorce was more about a mid-life crisis and Peter’s anger than about his sexuality. Can you elaborate? Fran: I knew Peter was bisexual. He had shared that with me during our marriage. He said he chose to be with me, and I loved him and thought to myself that I couldn’t abandon him when he was being so honest and wanted to be with me. Towards the end of the marriage he
became very controlling because he wasn’t in control of his life. He became angry. I wasn’t in touch with my own feelings. I always decided collectively—what was best for the group rather than me. These factors facilitated our demise. It never even occurred to me to ask myself how I felt about the circumstances. I did finally question what it was about me that put me in this situation. I took responsibility in figuring out how I was functioning as an adult. We had been together since we were 16, and we were definitely co-dependent. We were ruled by fear of being alone and fear of facing our true selves. When I was diagnosed with cancer we reconnected. We started our new path. We are soul mates but maybe we didn’t need to be married. I think we got it right now.
consumerism. Learn about what you eat, what you use for personal care and what you use to clean. The key is to isolate those cancer causing elements and eliminate them. Right now [statistics show] one of two men and one of three women will have cancer in their lifetimes. For the first time ever babies are being born pre-polluted with chemicals. We are abusing our water, land and each other. Look into the products you are using today and make changes. For more information about Fran’s foundation, visit www.cancerschmancer.org.
Dino: How does working on “Happily Divorced” compare to the hit show “The Nanny”? Peter: We have a lot of the same staff, which is great. It is so fast paced that having the same people that know how we work makes it easier. The writers know Fran and understand how to maximize her uniqueness. In addition, we are happy to announce that many of the actors from “The Nanny” will be visiting us on the show. Dino: I know you work tirelessly on many causes such as LGBT rights, women’s health issues and the fight against cancer, tell me what drives you to give so much back to our community? Fran: Civil liberty is a big platform of mine. Women, children, ethnicity and gay rights are important to me. Currently gay rights are at the tipping point so the need to keep a spotlight on this issue is crucial. It is ultimately important for the maturity of a nation to embrace these rights. If a celebrity doesn’t use their fame for the greater good, it is a waste. We can help move people to a light where there was once darkness. I have written a children’s book called “Being Wendy” that helps children be more accepting of others. It celebrates diversity. Dino: You beat cancer and have started a cancer movement to empower folks during their battle by forming the not-for-profit foundation Cancer Schmancer. I recently heard you are taking it further. Fran: It’s a new path of prevention. The cancer answer equals good old

askMARY
Dear Mary,
Dear Snub,
I’ve been with my partner for almost two years now, and his mother barely acknowledges my existence. In the beginning I tried everything to get into her good graces, but I abandoned those fruitless attempts a year ago. My partner’s brother will be getting married in a month, and I don’t care to spend another weekend being ignored. What should I do?
Listen, no one ignores you unless you let yourself be ignored. Let me be very clear: I am not suggesting you abandon any passive aggressive behaviors you have adopted; I just think it’s time to step up the intensity. Remember, nobody puts Baby in the corner. (In this scenario, you are Baby).
Snubbed No More
Weddings are such a great place to steal the spotlight. You could do it the classy way, by looking amazing and being elegant and demure, but that would probably require a lot of thought and might not pay off. Surefire way to get attention: drunken toast making, possibly followed by rowdy bickering with members of the groom’s family. Perhaps “out” some young member of the family. I would suggest loudly announcing, “Well, how much do they know? They don’t even realize their 12-year-old son is gay.” All eyes will be on you. At the reception, ask the DJ to play “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and do an interpretive dance expressing that once upon the time, there was light in your life and now there’s only love in the dark. I would suggest either finding an extended play remix or having the DJ repeat the song five or six times because it will take at least 30 minutes to express all your emotions through movement. After the wedding, surprise your S.O. with frilly white lingerie or maybe a veil. Don’t worry if he’s not into those things (or you’re not into those things), it’s a wedding, you’re trying to get some attention and I’m giving you directions. There will be comments on your outfit, particularly if you are still swilling red wine from a satin pump (I suggest stealing the bride’s pump, preferably by tackling her while she’s still in her dress and wrestling it off her foot, all moves guaranteed to get you even more attention). I hope you didn’t want positive attention, because I don’t think you’re going to get any of that with this advice. Then again, if I knew how to get positive attention, I probably wouldn’t be writing this article. Best of luck!

Holllerrrr poodles! Great news—Jerusalem House is a finalist in the Home Depot Foundation’s $250,000 Facebook voting contest in March. Many of you voted last year to help us win $25,000 dollars, and we need everyone's help to win the big prize. Vote daily along with your friends and help us win the grand prize. Go to http://tinyurl. com/JHWINFB to vote daily throughout March. I really appreciate all of your help! While spring has sprung I’m sad we didn’t get another “snow jam” like last year, however, I am excited for the annual “spring clean.” Ever since I saw my first Oprah show on organizing, I’ve made a concerted effort to rid myself of the clutter that can so easily accumulate. Especially when it comes to drag supplies. I guess I’m a little sensitive to clutter because my mom became a hoarder after I moved away from home. Of course I didn’t know that word back then but that was exactly the case. A couple years after moving out, I remember telling her I’d clean everything up for her but when I got there, it was overwhelming. Not as bad as some of the houses on “Hoarders” but definitely disheartening. She wouldn't let me throw away a simple peanut butter jar. It went downhill from there. I, on the other hand, had some mild OCD while growing up in the orphanage. I remember sweeping the dirt outside in the same direction so it looked “better.” Years later when I asked my therapist about it, she said children with little or no control try to control the things in their environment.
76 : MARCH 8, 2012
I’m so afraid of becoming a hoarder now I make myself watch the show to inspire me to get rid of more stuff that doesn’t matter. I have a simple rule: If I haven’t worn it or used it within the last year, I donate it to charity. It seems to be working pretty well. Speaking of spring cleaning and getting rid of things, I’m happy to report I’ve lost 17 pounds since the beginning of January. Though a lot slower than I might have wished, everyone keeps encouraging me by saying it will stay off. It really has come down to choices. I went out to dinner at Cowtippers with friends the other night and was so proud I had a NY strip with steamed vegetables. No appetizer and no dessert. I’ve been going to the gym three days a week also and feel like I have a good routine in place. Personal training is next on the agenda, and I will report back to you with the results.

Shannon Jenkins, Associate Writer
Photography by Traver Rains
She’s performed at gay bars all over the country, and, until now, she’s never stepped a stiletto inside an Atlanta club. Raja, the Season 3 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, finally brings her act to the city among the trees. In anticipation of her appearance at Burkhart’s Pub on March 8-9, Fenuxe caught up with the busy West Hollywood queen. Fenuxe: What have you been up to since winning Drag Race? Raja: Most of the year has been all about traveling for me. Since most of us have had the exposure of being on a national TV show we’ve basically been able to go to every gay bar in the U.S. and showcase what we do as entertainers and artists. I’ve been to virtually every city with the exception of Atlanta. I’ve just been enjoying that. Fenuxe: What’s the craziest thing that’s happened since you won? Raja: Well the crazy things I really shouldn’t mention in an article but I can tell you some of the more interesting and moving moments. I just met one of my youngest fans in Louisville, Kentucky, who is a 3-year-old girl. Her parents brought her over to my hotel along with her other sisters. It was a surreal moment because you think you only reach a certain demographic. Apparently there are little kids too who get in on Raja. I’m so glad I’m able to reach so many people of different ages and lifestyles. That’s definitely one of the best parts of this whole process. Fenuxe: That sounds cute! 80 : MARCH 8, 2012
Raja: It was very cute. She even had a little picture of her that her mom signed with her name and age. I try to keep all these things in a scrapbook. This is once in a lifetime. I’ll only get this win once and I’ll only get this sort of notoriety and popularity only at this time. So I’m enjoying it. I save everything. That’s the hoarder in me that wants to keep all these amazing things. I mean collector, not hoarder. Fenuxe: Hmm…interesting idea— hoarding. That would be fun: a show about a drag queen hoarder. Raja: Yeah, maybe I’ll be on that next… Fenuxe: What do you think of the current season of Drag Race? Raja: It’s pretty fun. I’m enjoying watching it from a whole different perspective now that I’ve actually been on the show. I know what it feels like to be there. It’s a sense of relief watching it because I don’t have to go through it with them. I give it up to them because it’s not an easy thing to go through. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through in my life. I can watch it now with a sense of humor and laugh and enjoy the characters. I’ve gotten to meet every single one of them, and they’re all really cool people.
Fenuxe: What’s happening with your art? Raja: Before I really started doing drag, one of my biggest dreams was to write an illustrated kids’ book. That’s always been one of my big goals in life. So I’m working on that idea a little bit. I am constantly creating. There’s never a moment I’m not doing something. I’m also focusing on music, which I’ve never done before. There’s an inner rock star in me that really wants to come out. I figure why not try it now. There are a lot of people reaching out to me—all sorts of different music producers who have written music and have different ideas. It’s a fun way to collaborate with people in a wholly different way other than just doing drag. And I’m constantly making things; I’m a designer. At home there’s always a hot glue gun machine going. Fenuxe: What most influences your art? Raja: I’ve always been influenced by fashion. A lot of my illustrations are fashioned based. I thought at one point I was going to be a fashion designer or a fashion illustrator and that somehow segued into being a makeup artist. It really goes hand in hand. There are all sorts of things that inspire me. I’m really inspired by fashion photographers. I read; I watch tons of movies. I constantly absorb things around me. I live in a very diverse city so I’m constantly drawing inspiration from that as well. Fenuxe: And, how’s life in general? Raja: Things have slowed down a little bit with the winter so I’ve had time to focus on myself and the direction I want to go into. I live a pretty enchanted life in LA. Most times I hang out with a lot of friends. I still perform quite a bit in my own neighborhood, which recently has had a giant resurgence of drag because of the show. I’m just doing what I’ve always done. Fenuxe: We are seeing a resurgence here in Atlanta as well. So, how’s your makeup career? Raja: I don’t get to do makeup very much anymore. I’m still doing it some, and I’m focusing more on what I want to do as a makeup artist. I’m going to be featured at the big LA makeup show this year. I’m coming out with some beauty products. We’re doing a set of brushes first, and they’re going to be named after Raja. At first we were toying with the name but Raja has really always been my muse. Before I even started doing makeup I was a drag queen. I’m just basing it all off my own nostalgic inspiration, which—to be honest—is myself. I’ve always used myself as my own guinea pig and muse. So I named the product after Raja. To me she’s my inspiration—she’s the woman who propelled me to make beautiful things. FENUXE.COM : 81
