FENUXE I FIND IT much more difficult to watch a sappydimwitted honeymoon gone wrong chick-flick versus a good, down and dirty, gay drama. It’s all I can bare to sit through two hours of Jennifer Aniston acting like a bimbo and falling for the wrong guy. He is typically way under her league anyway. Like she would actually date down to that level, get real.

EDITOR’S PICK

Gay oriented, heart wrenching, comically campy films, although sometimes tough on the emotions, strike a great chord within. I find myself yearning for more storyline, searching for a better answer to an inevitably disastrous ending or wishing to discover more about the lead character’s back-story. A flurry of emotions grabs my attention. I feel engulfed by the plot and dialog. I am there. Out On Film Festival kicks off September 29th with Going Down in La La Land, starring our very own cover model, Matthew Ludwinski. Their stellar line-up of shows this year will definitely prove to play into all the juicy things I look for in good gay flicks.

FASHION

Home Fixes for Fall You may have already switched your wardrobe to represent the impending change of seasons. Now it is time to make a few changes to your home as well. Donʼt know what to do? Donʼt worry, Fenuxe has some advice from three of the Americaʼs top interior designers.

Anthony Barratta Black and White

“Black and white allows color to stand out in a room, and can bring a room to life. A lot of the black and white pieces at this year’s Las Vegas Market are very graphic, which really allows a piece to give a room a whole other dimension.”

Chrome

“A little chrome accent table in your living room goes a long way. The chrome acts as a little mirror. It reflects the rest of the room. Chrome gives any piece a clean fresh look.”

Jeffrey Allan Marks Small Scale

“Everything across the board is becoming a little smaller in scale. Maybe people are getting smaller, I don’t know, but I love it. It is easier to mix things that are a smaller scale. Yes there will be the larger pieces in the room. I don’t think we need this overall big monstrosity pieces like we had in the 90s. People are wanting a small jewel they can love and keep and move around.”

Swivel

“Swivel is a great thing for people living in smaller spaces. These days you need to multipurpose your furniture. From the end of a bed to in front of a fireplace, pieces that swivel, rock, or roll bring life and movement to a room while saving space.”

Nathan Turner Red Hot

“I have been seeing the hot punch of candy apple red. It’s vibrant, it makes you take notice of it. It is such a bold color to use. Whether you are going for it and use it all over the room or make a subdued neutral tone-on-tone room and thrown in punches of this color, either way you have a winner.”

Basket Weave

“The basket weave trend is so versatile. And because I am seeing it in some many different materials you can use it in so many areas. And the traditional basket weave design calls to that great kind of colonial look, but seeing it in different materials will update it.” 14 : SEPTEMBER 22, 2011

NIGHTLIFE

words by Michael Vorndran

Sister Acts of Kindness OVER THE LAST several years you may have seen some rather interesting looking nighttime nuns roaming the streets of Atlanta. Obviously, these are not your average, everyday sort of sistas and, trust when we tell you, that is a very good thing. These particular habited beauties are in fact Atlantaʼs own chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence aka The Order of the Flaming Sugarbakers. If you don’t know who the Sisters are enjoy a little Cliff Notes version…the organization got started back in 1979 by a few gay guys in San Fran. The idea was to bring attention to social issues around the city. They thought a great way to get attention would be to dress like over-the-top, campy nuns. And guess what? It worked! Cut to an Atlanta bedroom in 2009 where a 28 year-old man lay wondering what he could do to make the world a better place. Then it hit him like a ton of false eye-lashes from above: “BECOME A SISTER!” He rushed to the phone and enlisted a few friends to help. He soon became known as Gunza Blazin and the other two became Ivanna Pocahotass and Anita Mandablough. The trio set off on their adventure of good during Halloween 2009. Since their immaculate inception, the Atlanta Sisters have raised money and brought awareness to causes like: Jerusalem House, Stand Up for Kids, M.I.S.T.E.R and the Phillip Rush Center. Their largest event to date was something they called “Intergalactic Love Affair”. This event raised $4,600 which was handed over to Youth Pride. The Sisters have also been able to provide grants to both M.I.S.T.E.R and the Phillip Rush Center. Not bad for an organization just a little over 2 years old. Chandler Bearden of M.I.S.T.E.R. explains the Sister’s impact on his organization: “The Atlanta Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are definite force in Atlanta’s community. Their ability to manifest anywhere with ease and respect in order to share the knowledge of 18 : SEPTEMBER 22, 2011

safety and the inspiration of joy is astounding. The Sisters are a blessing to MISTER. They share our sex positive approach to education and prevention of HIV and STDs without judgment or discrimination.” This year the group is planning on getting even stronger with the addition of several new sisters, a major event called “Project Nunway” (stay tuned for more details) and of course a huge presence at this year’s Halloween and Atlanta Pride. Look for their “Remembering 30 years of AIDS” pride float. Next time you see one of the sexy sisters strutting their stuff down the street, stop and say thanks. They may look a little out there, but at the end of the day their campiness is for a great cause.

History and Charm Attract Homebuyers to The Stacks Located in the heart of Atlanta with one-bedroom lofts from the $150’s and two-bedroom lofts from the $170’s, The Stacks at Fulton Cotton Mill offers a perfect blend of history, location and lifestyle. Evolving from a bustling 19th century textile mill to stylish New York-style condominiums, these one-of-a-kind residences combine the charm of the “old” with the sleekness and style of the “new.” The exterior boasts a solid brick construction and soaring smoke stacks – and a water tower from the days of the cotton mill that contrasts the sparkling city lights. When Tanner Marcentel was searching for a new home, he says the history and preservation of The Stacks was a big attraction—along with the 20-foot high ceilings and industrial-sized windows. “We love the height of the ceilings and the exposed brick walls,” says Tanner Marcentel. “I smile every time I enter my loft!”

Austrian Amusement LETʼS BE HONEST, when we hear the word Vienna our minds instantly envision tiny sausages. Instead we should be thinking about museums, palaces, clubs, and hot boys. Seriously, this place is like a dream come true for gays of all persuasions. Fenuxe has done the digging on the Austrian must-sees.

Peruse

The highlight for any art loving queen will be a quick stop at Belvedere Palace. This place was once home to famed homo Prince Eugene, but it now houses some serious art. The palaces’ collection includes: Egon Schiele’s Nudes and the largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings complete with his world-famous “Kiss.”

Purchase

Vienna, like all great gay vacation destinations, has a wide variety of ways for us to spend our hard earned cash. Boys looking to rack-up some debt need to head over to what locals call the “Golden U”. This area of the city caters to people looking for famed fashions from the likes of: Armani, Boss, Cartier, Prada and of course Louis. Rustic men will enjoy picking through flea market finds at Naschmarkt.

Partake

Coffee lovers can enjoy some real Viennese java at Café Berg. The first LGBT daytime café in Vienna boasts a cozy vibe and is the only place to do Sunday brunch. Diners looking for a cool place to sup will love Motto. This joint is where people go to watch all the beautiful people nibble, sip and dish.

Play

Vienna is a great place for gents who like to play on vacay. The city offers up Aufshclag Wien, the largest gay and lesbian sports society in Austria. They have volleyball and badminton courts. Rugged outdoor types will dig the open-air paradise that is Danube Island. The island is a great place to skate, bike or hike.

Party

The gay nightlife scene offers a little something for everybody. Drag aficionados can have an experience at Heaven Vienna. Disco queens can get their fever on at Why Not. Boys who like the beats will love queer:beat and its two dance floors. Leather lovers can get their fetish fix at Vienna’s own Eagle.

Now that you are primed and ready to go why not check out the Fabulous Vienna packages from Atlanta-based Austrian Airlines Vacation Center. The favorite package offers you roundtrip airfare from Atlanta, three nights at the four-star Hotel NH Wein, a sightseeing tour and a ticket to the Belvedere Palace. Upgrades and extensions are available. The best part? AAVC will donate part of the proceeds for the sales of this package to Chris Kids. 24 : SEPTEMBER 22, 2011

EATS: DINO’S DISH

words by Dino Thompson-Sarmiento

Surprise, surprise BRIZA IS THE revelation of the year! This is a must do immediately. Briza restaurant and Roof Top Lounge has won my Medal of Eats award for the year. The service was extraordinary (Thank you Sunny!), the expanded wine selection apropos, ambience sublime and the food succulent.

Chef extraordinaire Janine has created a unique menu that will satisfy even the fussiest of diners. I enjoyed seven courses and gained insight to her culinary expertise as well as a few pounds (well worth it I might add; keeps my trainer employed) The southern cuisine has a twist of science and precision coupled with French style plating that’s a party for your eyes. Many of her plates are interactive whereby you control portions of aromatic sauces by lightly squeezing a pipette as you savor the delicacies. Dessert was mind-blowing; a combination of coffee ice cream, warm chocolate with doughnut balls and bacon powder. Are you kidding me? I could have moved in and I sort of can, since they are located within the Renaissance hotel midtown. Is the fun over? Oh no, it’s just the beginning! A spiral staircase leads you to their Roof Top Lounge – a whole other world nestled above midtown. Bar supervisor, Mathew James Wessels, friend of many Atlanta folk will assure have you an excellent time. Frozen alcoholic popsicles, the best Mojitos around and a flamboyant cocktail list await your thirsty lips. A gorgeous white tented section allows you to have an intimate gathering for 2 or 20. Perfect for this autumn! A big applause to Phillipa Giesbert, Director of B&F operations for taking a walk on the wild side and providing Atlanta’s peeps with an excellent place to graze and gather. See you there! 26 : SEPTEMBER 22, 2011

Gay Gospels WORD ON THE street says the word of the Lord teaches us being gay is wrong. Then there are people like Keith Sharpe who believe the Bible has sections which affirm being homosexual is not shunned. Sharpe feels so strongly about the notion, he wrote a book called “The Gay Gospels.” The book is broken down into two sections: “The Defensive Testament” and “The Affirmative Testament.” Sharpe describes the book as a “self-help manual for LGBT people in the face of continuing attacks by Christian leaders.” Fenuxe asked Sharpe to pull some of his favorite quotes from the book. The following beautiful hymn to love from the Old Testament is very popular now at weddings. Very few people realize though that it was actually uttered by one woman, Ruth, to another woman, Naomi: “Entreat me not to leave you or to return from following after you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God; where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord do so to me and more also if even death parts me from you.” Ruth 1:16-17 At the death of Jonathan, David reveals the extent of the love between the two men: “I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; greatly beloved were you to me; your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.” 2 Samuel 1: 25-26 In the Gospel of Thomas, Jesus makes many observations about the insignificance of gender. This is a famous one: “When you make the two one...and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male will not be male nor the female female...then you will enter the kingdom.” Gospel of Thomas, Saying of Jesus no 22 Saint Paul famously indicated that gender was unimportant, although he is inconsistent about this in other texts: “In Christ there is no male or female...you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28 Jesus was no family man, and certainly not a believer in 'family values' as the Christian Right understand them: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters and even his own life, that one cannot be my disciple” Luke 14: 26-27 As he is dying on the cross Jesus ignores Mary Magdalene in front of him but puts the 'disciple he loved' in an adoptive relationship with his mother. This speaks volumes about the emotional intimacy between the two men: “Jesus, seeing his mother and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he said to his mother 'Woman behold your son'. Then he says to the disciple, ‘behold your mother'!” John 19: 25-27

words by Michael Vorndran

GAY CINEMA WAS once dominated by two things: over the top caricatures and overly dramatic caricatures. But over the last ten years we have seen a shift in queer movie-making that now showcases a wider range of the homo experience. One of the main reasons? The work of people like Casper Andreas. For nearly a decade Casper has been making and directing gay films that cover the entire spectrum of who we are. He has covered guys on the rebound, boys madly in love and hags having breakdowns. Casper’s latest film, “Going Down in LA-LA Land”, dives head first into the gay porn industry. The film stars newcomer Matthew Ludwinski in a role that is sure to go down as one of the hottest in years. Check out the screening of the film opening night of Atlanta’s annual Out on Film festival taking place September 29. To get you ready for the fest, Fenuxe grabbed an interview with the gay auteur and his male ingénue.

Casper Andreas Director Fenuxe: Give us a quick little run down of “Going Down in LA LA Land”. Casper: It’s a dramedy about struggling actors in LA. The main character is Adam who comes out to LA with the dream of becoming a star. He gets pulled into porn and prostitution. It is a bit of a cautionary tale and it is also a story about friendships and love affairs. Ultimately it is about what is most important in life, is it love and connection to other people or is it fame and sex drive? Fenuxe: How did you end up making this movie? Casper: I read the book and thought it would make a great story for a film. I related to the struggling actor’s part a lot because I lived that life ten years ago. I related to a lot of the descriptions of L.A. and I thought it would be a really interesting and exciting story to make. I asked Andrew Zeffer (author of the novel) if I could make it as a film and he was all for it. 42 : SEPTEMBER 22, 2011

Fenuxe: How did you find Matthew Ludwinski? Casper: He was up for one of the lead roles in another one of my films, “Between Love and Good-Bye.” I didn’t cast him in that film. I called him back a couple of times and gave him a small role in that film as sort of a consolation prize. He played a character who comes over and gets kicked. Fenuxe: Did you decide to cast him as soon as you started casting “Going Down in LALA Land”? Casper: Not exactly. When he learned about it he actually read the book and told me that he would be perfect for this role, which is something I had thought of as well. I did keep him in mind over the couple of years as I started to cast the film. He was the first actor I read for the role. But then I also decided to audition actors in LA, to see who else I could find, to see who was out there. I kept coming back to him. I thought he had everything that the part called for. He looks the part and he brought a lot of different levels to the character.

Fenuxe: Were you nervous about someone relatively new to acting being able to carry an entire film? Casper: It is a big part, he’s in almost every scene of the film. It took me a while for me to be sure that he was going to be right for it. I am very happy with my decision to cast him. He did an amazing job and he is super supportive of the film by going to festivals and doing interviews, which is so important.

Matthew Ludwinski Leading Male Fenuxe: Tell us about your character in “Going Down in LA-LA Land.” Matthew: Adam is a young actor that moves to LA to pursue his dream. The movie is about his struggle in all the pitfalls and craziness that is the Los Angeles entertainment industry. Fenuxe: The stuff you are living right now. Matthew: Well, I know about parking tickets anyway. That was the first thing that resonated from the movie that is true to life. My character in the movie gets a lot of parking tickets and apparently they can drive you to do porn. Fenuxe: That is a good lesson for people to know before they move to LA to become an actor…pay your parking tickets. Matthew: Read the signs. Oh it’s impossible. You have to get a couple of parking tickets before you can be that vigilant. They are confusing. Fenuxe: So after a few parking tickets he just can’t take it anymore and just starts to do porn? Matthew: He doesn’t just start doing porn. It is about when you get to Hollywood and you are a young attractive actor you are always walking the line of people trying to use you in jobs that are a little more risqué, a little sexier. And both he and Candy (another character) are trolling that line of what are legitimate avenues for giving head and what aren’t. They just make excuses for themselves bit by bit falling deeper and deeper into the seamier side of things. Fenuxe: You started out as a model right? Matthew: Not really, most people think that I started out as a model. I went to school to be an actor. I moved to New York to do

acting. I was acting the entire time I was there in little things. I was also doing modeling and I think I have a bit of a disability in that at least on the internet. Fenuxe: I ask because I was wondering if you have ever had to decide how far is too far? Matthew: I have never done porn, thank goodness for my acting career, but I know what it is like to do a job and then be like, “Oh my gosh, why did I do that?” I did a series of naked photo shoots for a coffee table book that made me pseudo-famous on the internet for a minute. Afterwards you go through this process of how you ended up doing this thing that you are so surprised. You think how did I end up doing that. My character goes through the exact same things. I was able to relate to that a lot. Fenuxe: Don’t worry Josh Dumhel has done nude photos so you are fine. Matthew: Oh, I know it’s fine. Fenuxe: It isn’t the 50s anymore. Matthew: Yeah, but it was a little awkward when my dad found them on the internet.

Dear Mary,

Dear Adam Appleseed,

I am throwing a little party at my house to celebrate my new “allAmerican” décor. I am going to serve a menu with all sorts of gourmet American-style grub. I have a recipe for BBQ that literally blows your socks off. I have been testing a few apple crisp recipes, but can’t seem to find one that I love. Do you have one up your sleeve you would be willing to share?

I happen to have an EXCELLENT apple crisp recipe! Every time I make it, it turns out awesome and I never even remember making it. That’s how simple it is. It’s like I just wake up with apple crisp! I will pretend I am on a cooking show and type up the directions as I make it, so it’ll be like we’re experiencing this together. Aw.

Signed,

Adam With an Apple

1. Take two shots of rum while peeling and coring apples for quality check purposes. 2. Take one more shot of rum for good measure while slicing peeled, cored apples. Sprinkle rum on apples. Clean the rum you sprinkled on the floor off the floor. Pour generous dollop of rum in your diet soda of choice. 3. Look for your mixer for about an hour. You know you have one, we both do. Find it in the first place you looked, where you checked at least six other times. Why was it behind a springform pan?? You’ve never even used that thing! Why do we have it? Have a shot. 4. Pour one even cup of rum. Sip to relax from mixerer fandango. Henceforth, this is your sippin rum. 7. Cream butter and sugar and maybe some rum until it gets fruffy. Fruh-ffy. Where is my sippin rum? FLUFFY is what I meant to say. Cream it til it’s creamy, which I assume is the point of creaming things. 3. Put the apples in some kind of dish or pan or hell who cares. Douse with rum. Attempt to flambé. 6. Put out flambé-related fire. Find sippin rum. Sip. 9. Sprinkle sugar on apples. Take that sugar and butter you mixed up and dip some leftover apples in it cause I don’t remember what it was actually for. 0. Crumble up oatmeal with some cimmanininin, butter, salt (did I mention salt earlier? I meant to). Soak raisins in your sippin rum. (You may still sip from it, I give you permission. The raisins make it sweetisherer). Sprinkle…how many times have I says sprinkle, so many times, that’s how many! …Spread? Scatter? Scatter! Scatter that crumbled oast-meal stuff on the apples and put it in an oven, perhaps your neighbor’s. C. Relax for an hour. Remember raisins, attempt to fish them out of sippin rum, drop on floor, sigh, eat a couple, throw them away. *. Wake up with head on counter. Call a few friends to see if they’re doin anything exciting…they aren’t…ugh, people are so lame, who is asleep at…3 a.m. Hm, that can’t be right… 4. Turn oven on. 9. Call that awesome bakery in Virginia-Highland and arrange to have an apple crisp delivered in the morning. Er, maybe late morning. Noonish…sometime after 4 p.m. Signed,

There are a lot of people out there who think they are

“religious.” These are the type of people who run around acting holier than thou. They act high and mighty spouting off biblical quotes making us feel small because we don’t know what Peter said about Paul. But at the end of the day we all have our own level of holiness. Answer the questions below and find out where you rate on the holy-meter.

1. When you were younger you wanted to be an altar boy because… A. There was another really hot altar boy… B. I thought ringing the bells made me closer to Tinkerbell. C. I wanted to serve God.

2. You wear that religious symbol around your neck because… A. It was on sale and looks totally cute on me! B. My mother gave it as a gift and I don’t want to make her upset. C. I believe it helps protect me in my journey through life.

3. When was the last time you were in a house of worship? A. I was at Jungle last night…oh, wait you mean church…um I can’t remember, maybe a few weeks back to score free donuts at a selfhelp something, something intervention meeting. B. I go every holiday…well almost every holiday. Okay I haven’t been since Yom Kippur 2009. C. I am there right now.

4. When you see people wearing a traditional nun’s habit your first thought is… A. Oh, I wonder what the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have planned for this year’s Atlanta Pride. B. Wow, I can’t believe someone would wear that in this heat, but good for them for keeping it real. C. Oh bless the sisters’ hearts. I am shamed by my lack of commitment to my religion. I have only been to church 4 times this week. I am calling in sick to work and going now.

5. The Holiday Season is a time for…

A. Lots of great parties, some cool presents and much deserved time off from work. B. Spending time with family, some cool presents and remembering what the holiday is all about. C. Celebrating the birth of Christ. Period. Duh. End of story.

Now find out how holey you are 1-7 Points: You rate a 0 out of 10 on the holy meter. You better hope the others are wrong or your afterlife may be a little warm. 8-28 Points: You rate a 5 out of 10 on the holy meter. You don’t run around preaching. You do hedge your bets, neither this nor that, bad or good. Hmm…sounds a little like purgatory. 29-35 Points: You score a perfect 10 out of 10 on the holy meter. And there is nothing wrong with that…

HEy Girl HEy I just wanted to thank everyone for all the emails you’ve been sending. I appreciate the nice comments as well as words of encouragement on my weight loss progress. Some of the suggestions have been extremely helpful. Surprisingly, keeping a log of what I’ve been eating has been the most helpful. I really didn’t think too much about the calories that were associated with something as simple as a sandwich but it all adds up really quickly. I’m now tracking all my food, which in turn helps me make better decisions. As of 9/8/11, I’ve lost 10 pounds. While it may not sound like a lot to some, I must confess, they’ve been the hardest 10 pounds I’ve ever lost! Yes, I have had some dessert here and there but I feel like I’m really starting to get into a routine. I can’t wait for the next phase to start—working with a personal trainer. I’ll keep you abreast of how things progress in my search a trainer. In other news, I’m signing people up to walk on my team (Jerusalem House) for the annual AIDS Walk on October 16th. If I reach my goal of $5,000 in pledges, I will walk in

drag. Please make your pledge and sign up at http://aidswalkatlanta.kintera.org/ maryedithpitts. It will be a great day for the community. I hope you will support Jerusalem House. Reminder of the week: Please don’t stand next to me and talk in a derogatory tone about the “sissy boy” and what he should or should not be wearing. Just because its different from what you like doesn’t make his choice wrong. I’ve already spoken on this topic before but I’ll keep saying it till you understand. “When did being different equal being wrong or laughable? I just wonder, if we don’t accept ourselves in all of our glorious diversity, then we can’t expect others to accept us either. Our own insecurities fuel our fear of others. The next time you hear someone making nasty comments, I challenge you to take a stand. Defending those who are different in our community is defending our community as a whole. Don’t forget, there is beauty and value in everyone, sometimes you have to take the time to discover it.” So, next time you’re standing close to me and engaging in playground behavior, do me a favor and keep your comments to yourself! Love and lashes,

Mary Edith Pitts

dev words by Malcolm Montgomery

YOU MAY HAVE never heard the name Devin Star Tailes, Dev for short, but most likely have heard her music. She is the voice and mind behind the words “Like a G6” which were sampled from her song “Booty Bounce” by the Far East Movement. Dev is a star on the rise with an album that will drop on November 1st. The songstress took time from her busy schedule to have a little one-on-one with Fenuxe. Fenuxe: Tell us a little about yourself. Dev: I grew up in a town called Manteca. It is about an hour outside of San Francisco. Complete suburbia. I grew up in a Mexican and Portuguese family. Very traditional on both sides and I wouldn’t have changed that for the world. It is the coolest thing to me that people in the year 2011 act as if they never left their countries. I think it is so rad. Fenuxe: How did growing up in the suburbs affect your music? Dev: Growing up, I was always into expressing myself. I always wrote, I always played sports and I always studied music and painted and did whatever I could. I think a lot of that came from my parents influence. They were the same way. They taught me, “simple things in life could make me happy.” Fenuxe: Was it hard to practice so many talents growing up in Suburbia? 62 : SEPTEMBER 22, 2011

Dev: I didn’t always have the best tools there. I did what I could. Now I have a lot more at my finger tips and run wild with it like anyone would. Fenuxe: You were discovered on MySpace by the Cataracs? Dev: Yeah, I recorded a diss song for this girl who dated my ex-boyfriend and I covered Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” over a random beat that my friend made. You could probably find them on Myspace. They are so shitty I literally sang them into my laptop. The Cataracs found them and liked them and said come to Berkeley. You have a weird voice, but it’s cool and let’s make some music. Fenuxe: Your first album, “The Night the Sun Came Up”, is about to drop. How does that feel? Dev: It feels good. It is about time. The public has only heard “G6” and “Bass Down Low” from me for the last year and a half.

Fenuxe: What was your goal with the music on this album? Dev: This is my chance to let everybody know who I was because the public only knows me from “Bass Down Low” and “G6” and I wanted to express everything that I had to say and everything that I have been through and my stories for these last few years. It was important for me to be honest and be vulnerable. I think you can hear that on the album. Songs like “Perfect Match”, “Getaway”, “Dancing Shoes” and “Shadows” that are all really pretty. That is what I want to do. I want the next album to have more of those and be more mature. And be able to perform beautiful songs with instrumentation. I think that I am getting there. It meant a lot to me for this album to not only be sassy, but to be really pretty as well. Fenuxe: Have you been working on this album since day one? Dev: When I first started with the Cataracs it was more like one off songs. I started working on the album in Costa Rico in January.

bunch of shows. I do radio. Press stuff just to make sure everybody gets to hear everything that I have to say and for the album. It has been tiring and a lot work, but it is really exciting at the same time. Fenuxe: Does it get monotonous to do a bunch of interviews? Dev: Not really. It is for a good cause… my album is really important to me. Fenuxe: Who is your dream collaboration? Dev: It would probably be like Karen O and/or Crush or Nicki Minaj. I like Elton John too. It would have to be really swagful. Fenuxe: Who is your celebrity crush? Dev: My boyfriend, he is so cute. His name is Jimmy, but I won’t get too much into detail. Get Dev’s new album “The Night the Sun Came Up” on November 1 and her new single “In The Dark” on iTunes www.devishot.com

Fenuxe: I bet that was a fun time. Dev: Yeah, it was me the Cataracs and our managers. The whole skeleton for the album was made. We recorded like 13 songs. Over the last few months during our off time from touring we turned it in. Fenuxe: What are you doing to support the album? Dev: More shows, more touring and tons of videos. We have already shot four videos. I just want to get it out to people as much as possible. Fenuxe: Who are you going to be touring with? Dev: There is not an official tour yet, but once we get through the next couple of months we will find a perfect match. Fenuxe: What is your life like with your album dropping? Is it stressful? Exciting? Dev: Everyday has been busy. I am usually on a few flights a day. I do a
