FENUXE 10.18.2012 It is an incredibly emotional experience to walk in the Pride parade. I still get goosebumps when the parade turns onto Peachtree for the first time and a sea of joyful faces greet the approaching floats. A few steps later and my heart melts as I see churches like St. Mark handing out water to parade participants. We are truly a great community. We are a large community. We are a community with a bright future. I would like to extend a huge shout out to Buck and Glen for an awesome Pride! Great job guys! I also want to take this opportunity to apologize to those offended by an article in our previous issue. It was not our intention to offend or hurt anyone. In light of this situation we are starting a new section of the magazine called “Perspectives.” It will appear in our next issue and will include reader feedback. To have your tasteful thoughts published write me at tyler@fenuxe.com. We at Fenuxe love you Atlanta! I hope that everyone enjoyed Pride as much as we did! Now it is back to work for the Fenuxe staff planning the third annual Ice Party on November 3rd. We’ll see you there!

PETS

Primp Your Pooch

and Deck Your Doggie for the Holidays Nico Stoerner - Staff Writer

It’s no secret that pets are an extension/reflection of their owners. It should come as no surprise, then, when owners dress them up to reflect their own personality/sense of humor, and personal interests. However, it probably will surprise most consumers when they hear that the National Retail Federation has projected spending on Halloween costumes for pets (and most commonly, dogs) to reach a record $370 million this year which is 20% higher than last year. Although a small portion of sales, pet costumes are the pet industry’s fastest-growing commodity. With Dachshunds dressed as enormous Tootsie Rolls and Heinz Ketchup bottles, Pit Bulls dressed as Bat Dog, and Poodles dressed like Disney Princesses – there is no shortage of licensing for Fido’s costume. As a result, most costumes cost from $20-$40… which is interesting, considering the growing trend to spend less during the recession. The reason for this is likely to be our view of our pets as our best friends, our accessories, and in some sense, our children – who we love to spoil. Pets relieve

our stress now more than ever… 64% of Americans claimed to be stressed in 2009, and that number is sure to have risen since then. When we spend time playing, cuddling, and even simply paying attention to our animal companions it results in a boost of oxytocin – a hormone that naturally occurs in humans that feels good, relieves stress, and results in emotional bonding with our furry friends. Interestingly enough, this also occurs in our pets, making all of us more relaxed, happy, and loving. Pets also fill the gaps we find in our increasingly more competitive, insular, and shallow society today. Americans are reported to have 1/3 less “close” friends today than 20 years ago, meaning that we are increasingly lonelier and lack the companionship we truly need. While we are more and more connected socially through the internet, we’re built to be less satisfied with virtual than physical and personal interaction. Dogs specifically increase human social circles, offer opportunities to gather at parks and celebrations, and serve as the impetus to get out and walk in the neighborhood. Our four-legged friends also offer us the opportunity to nurture someone who can never repay us – helping to cultivate a more altruistic character and to embrace the better parts of our human nature. For all of these reasons it seems obvious why we like to dress up our barking buddies and show off our creativity.

16 : OCTOBER 18, 2012

There are limitations to our Canine Couture, though. Here are a few tips to make sure your mutt isn’t miserable as a result of your holiday enthusiasm: Don’t cover their eyes, ears, or nose. This can cause disorientation and most likely will result in an unhappy pet. Don’t squeeze your pet into a tight outfit. Restricting garments can limit mobility, ability to walk or sit comfortably, and may even dig into their skin or restrict respiration (especially in the case of brachycephalic breeds like bulldogs, pugs, Boston Terriers, etc). Use your common sense… unlike your motto for hookups – if it doesn’t fit, don’t force it. Always keep an eye on your precious pooch while in costume. No looking away at that hottie at the Spooktacular party at Piedmont Bark… plastic, elastic, Velcro, strings… all of these little parts may be dangerous if your little buddy decides to chew on them – and if he decides he’s uncomfortable, he probably will. Be sure to introduce your buddy to the idea of a costume with praise, short sessions (so she can acclimate to the idea of clothing), and be sure not to just surprise her with it. Odds are, she will mope, rip it up, or go into full-on bitch mode. Stay aware of your pet while you’re both in costume. The holiday season is full of strange sights, smells, and sounds. The illusions or out fits people are wearing may upset or scare some

animals. As well, they may ingest something that wasn’t meant for them (candy, liquor, etc), so be sure to always watch their behavior. Following these guidelines will ensure both you and your pet have a happy Halloween, and will help to make it a fun-filled holiday. Of course, the best time and place to debut these looks? Head over to Piedmont Bark on Thursday, October 25 for their 10th Anniversary Party, “Spooktacular.” Drop by Glamour Paws in the Virginia Highlands in advance to check out their fantastic line of pet garments and strut your stuff in style. After all – they say that pets look like their owners, and who looks better than you?

Costume Decoder: What his costume says about him Nico Stoerner - Staff Writer

As we prepare for all the Halloween celebrations this year we must once again rack our brains, wreck our wallets, and work our asses off to come up with something that will beat last year’s costume. However, one thing is for sure: From secret desires to heroes we admire, your costume will say or reveal something about you as a person. For all you guys and gals going stag out there we have a guide to help you decipher the different types of outfits you’ll come across so you know how to make your move.

The Group Theme

Drenched in blood? Wearing a meat dress? Scarring? Scabs? Clearly this guy doesn’t take himself too seriously and purposefully threw himself down the ugly tree in the spirit of the holiday. If nothing else the confidence and fun of this guy speak volumes about how great a date he might be – and if he looks good undead, you can bet he’s probably hot out of costume. Help him get there.

This gay is easy to spot because you’ll swear you saw him before. Guys dressed alike are either the least inspired or they’re trying to outdo each other… hissing “Who wore it best?!” Whether a group theme, or a gaggle of gays in the same getup – one thing is for sure: Guys dressed alike are probably just a little insecure. Consequently, they’re probably pretty dependent on their friends… If you go for one of the guys in a group, be sure it’s your “final answer,” because you’ll be blacklisted from the rest of them.

The Undead

The Matching Couple Regardless of whether one of them was whipped into submission, or the matching outfits were mutually agreed upon, one thing is certain: Their relationship is strong enough to survive matching ascots, cowboy hats, and/or stilettos. Take. A. Hint.

The Clever Costume Find yourself laughing at the humorous costume on the hottie in the corner? Then he’s definitely in this category. Witty banter will do well with this one – but realize that there might be a bit of arrogance or sarcasm along with his pithy retorts. Putting a ton of effort into a Halloween costume illustrates a bit of OCD, so recognize he could be a control freak.

What the Hell is that? You may come across a particular outfit you just don’t understand or readily recognize. A wild card through and through, it may be either the most inspired or worst executed costume – ever. If nothing else this guy might be a fun one to buy a drink, just try to clue into the costume before the straightforward “What the Hell are you?”

The Disney Character Rated G, this gay is most likely to have Broadway musicals memorized and ready to belt out at any given moment. It’s doubtful that he’ll make the first move as he is trying to hold on to his “innocence” as evidenced by his costume. Opt to sweep him off his feet with confidently executed grand gestures and respectful conversation. He might be a little shy, but there’s a high likelihood he’s looking for his Prince Charming.

The Halloween Slut You won’t need help picking out this one… he’ll probably be doing everything in his power to get everyone’s attention – from strutting across the street to the bar/club to grinding up on people as he makes a pass around the entire room – this gay is on a mission: sex. Don’t expect to put a ring on this one… unless it’s a cock ring. He’s either not ready to commit or he’s among those insatiable nymphomaniacs who take advantage of every opportunity to have a one-nighter. In fact – you probably won’t even have to by him breakfast on November 1st, either.

“Always Run. Run for your life. Run for your neighbor’s life. Run to raise money for this amazing organization. With steadfast support of the community, lofty goals, and constant efforts to make our little patch of earth a better place, AID Atlanta is among the most effective and important organizations in the community – and they need our help. …but how can one man make a difference for an organization and a social obstacle that seems so enormous? AID Atlanta is hosting its annual “AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5k Run” on October 21st in Piedmont Park and we have the opportunity to make it their best year yet. This will mark the 22nd year they have held this event, which continues to raise much-needed funding that supports numerous AIDS Service Organizations throughout the Metro-Atlanta area. From providing service to people who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, to helping many of us find out our status, AID Atlanta has more than likely affected you or someone you know. Last year the AIDS Walk/Run run raised $1,000,000.00 – but this year let’s aim to raise even more. From the moment we come out, to our first time out at a gay

As we all know, “united we stand, divided we fall.” These words have never lost their validity. As we look to the future let’s be sure we preserve those traditions that have helped us get to where we are today, and which make our community so unique. We even call members of our community “family.” In the spirit of giving, of family, of unity, and investing in our fellow man, let’s come together once again and help fund this incredible organization of hometown heroes. The Road Home:

One Man’s Incredible Journey to Jerusalem House Nico Stoerner - Staff Writer

AS I SIT here re-reading my interview with an amazing man, Joni Mitchell cues up on my iTunes and “Come In From the Cold” begins to play. The irony isn’t lost on me, and I find myself reflecting upon my own life experience… of my own time struggling financially, and finding myself homeless (at ages 7, 15, and 26, respectively). This happened for numerous different reasons – from having a deadbeat father, being kicked out for being gay, and finding myself overqualified/educated in an economy where personal connections and relationships offer the only opportunity for employment due to the Great Recession our elders have gifted us with. I think of my great fortune, as well. Coming from humble beginnings, I have insisted upon only greatness and I have worked to not only hold myself to high standards, but to demand that my peers do the same. As well, I have frequently had the honor to be influenced by great individuals such as Frank Murray, the man who this is really all about. His candid recollection of his life and the effect that our very own Jerusalem House has had on him will surely move you as much as it did me – and if you were unsure whether or not you were going to “Ghosts of Hollywood,” trust me – the debate is over. On a sunny Friday I sat down and wrote out my interview with Frank, and here’s how it went: N Hey Frank, thank you for taking the time to speak with me. Would you mind speaking freely? Tell us your story (regarding Jerusalem House). F July of 2006 I was diagnosed with HIV. I went to the doctor originally because of uncontrollable shaking in my legs. After running several tests we decided to test for HIV and it came back positive. Eventually it became impossible stand on my legs all day to work and because I was a customer service manager for a grocery store, it was impossible to keep my job. I ended up moving back to Florida and living with my parents for some time. While seeing a doctor there my condition began to improve and I was able to obtain a job, finally moving back out on my own, but eventually I got sick again and was unable to work. After moving out of my parent’s home our relationship became very strained and eventually I ended up homeless with nowhere to go. Finally ending up in a hospital in Central Florida, it became clear the practitioners just didn’t want to deal with me and my disease, so they offered me a bus ticket anywhere in the United States I wanted to go. I knew I had to come back to Atlanta. With nothing but the clothes on my back I spent 9 months on our streets, but I was determined put my life back together. It took a couple months of jumping through Grady Healthcare Systems’ hoops, but I then shall we obtain

healthcare. During all of this I was fighting to get Social Security Disability benefits. While waiting I was able to obtain general assistance from the government... a whopping $225 a month; but fortunately that was enough to get me started in Jerusalem House’s program, and with the help of a great case manager named Ailene Gordon from Traveler’s Aid, my application was submitted. N How long were you out before you found out your status? F I was out 13 years before I was diagnosed. N So tell us, how did you come to learn about Jerusalem House? F During my hospital stay at Emory, I became friends with girl and told her my story. She took it upon herself to do some research and found Jerusalem House on the internet and brought me

Frank Murray

the information, but just having the information wasn’t enough. I was going to have to work hard get my life together to make this happen. N How has Jerusalem House affected your life? What role have they played in where you are today? F Jerusalem House has affected my life in many ways as well as giving me a sense of security I so desperately needed. I’ve also become a more well rounded person because of them. They have shown me how important it is to volunteer and give back to the community, so now I always make myself available to volunteer for whatever I can with their program. N From your perspective, how would you describe the volunteers and staff of Jerusalem House and the work they do? F The staff and volunteers are top notch! I always have a go to person and there is always someone willing to care for, listen to, or help me.

N Do you have any advice you’d like to give to the Atlanta gay community? F Try not to have the attitude that HIV could never happened to you, I felt that way and here I am dealing with the disease today – however I will say this: having HIV has made me a better person because I’ve learned from my experiences. It doesn’t spell the end, but it does complicate your life dramatically. N Will we be seeing you at Jerusalem House’s “Ghosts of Hollywood” this year? F 2010 and 2011 I purchased tickets to Jerusalem House’s Halloween party because I thought that it was a good way to have a good time and to give back to a cause that is near and dear to my heart. This year, however, I have decided to volunteer – so yes, you will definitely see me there!

This is a fundamental constitutional right.” Banking Regulations “We intend to close loopholes that allowed big financial firms to trade risky financial products; to identify system-wide risks that could cause a meltdown; to strengthen capital and liquidity requirements to make the system more stable; and to ensure that the failure of any large firm does not take the entire economy down with it.” Poverty “We will not abandon those who depend on us for life-saving help, whether it’s food or medicine. We will keep our promises and honor our commitments.”

FENUXE lets the presidential candidates speak for themselves Berlin Sylvestre, Staff Writer

Gay Marriage “I think what you’re seeing is a profound recognition on the part of the American people that gays and lesbians and transgender persons are our brothers, our sisters, our children, our cousins, our friends, our co-workers, and that they’ve got to be treated like every other American. And I think that principle will win out. It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” Legalization of Marijuana “I think, the battle, the war on drugs has been an utter failure and I think we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws but I’m not somebody who believes in legalization of marijuana. What I do believe is that we need to rethink how we are operating in the drug wars, and I think that currently, we are not doing a good job.”

Health Care “Ultimately, I believe the health care law is a significant step forward in ensuring that every American has access to the preventive care and immunizations that they need to stay healthy.” Gun Control “I have always believed that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from the violence that plagues our streets through common-sense, effective safety measures. The Supreme Court has now endorsed that view, and while it ruled that the D.C. gun ban went too far, Justice Scalia himself acknowledged that this right is not absolute and subject to reasonable regulations enacted by local communities to keep their streets safe.”

Iran “We shouldn’t be afraid. You know, Iran spend one hundredth of what we spend on the military. If Iran ever posed a serious threat to us, they wouldn’t stand a chance. And we should use that position of strength that we have to be bold enough to go ahead and listen. That doesn’t mean we agree with them on everything. But at least we should find out are there areas of potential common interest, and we can reduce some of the tensions that have caused us so many problems around the world.” 36 : OCTOBER 18, 2012

In red, former Massachusetts governor and co-founder of Bain Capital Mitt Romney.

Abortion “My position has been clear throughout the campaign. I’m in favor of abortion being legal only in the cases of rape, incest, and the health and life of the mother.” Banking Regulations “Of course, we have to have regulation on Wall Street and on every street to make sure that our economy works well.” Poverty “I’m in this race because I care about Americans. I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I will fix it.” Health Care “I will repeal Obamacare and replace it with real health care reform.”

Gay Marriage “There’s been an assault on marriage. Obama is very aggressively trying to pave the path to same-sex marriage. I would, unlike this president, defend the Defense of Marriage Act. I would also propose and promote an amendment to the constitution to define marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman.”

Legalization of Marijuana “People talk about medicinal marijuana. And you know, you hear that story that people who are sick need medicinal marijuana. But marijuana is the entry drug for people trying to get kids hooked on drugs. I don’t want medicinal marijuana.”

Gun Control “Let me speak very directly and candidly about where I stand. I support the Second Amendment as one of the most basic and fundamental rights of every American. It’s essential to our functioning as a free society, as are all the liberties enumerated in the Bill of Rights.”

Iran “Well, it’s worth putting in place crippling sanctions. It’s worth working with the insurgents in the country to encourage regime change in the country. And if all else fails, there’s nothing else we could do besides take military action. I will make sure that the sanctions, diplomatic pressure, economic pressure and support of insurgents within the country help them become dissuaded to get away from their nuclear ambition.” FENUXE.COM : 37

Blue

in a Sea of Red Berlin Sylvestre, Staff Writer

Atlanta Magazine has dubbed Pine Lake “one of the best places to call home.” Welcoming enough to elect openly-gay officials and frequently bringing the community together at the beloved lake of their namesake, Pine Lake is an example to all. Mayor Kathie Denobriga gave us the skinny on what it’s like to be queen. B Can you tell me a bit quick on where you were raised? K I was raised in the Blue Ridge mountains of east Tennessee (although I was born in ATL). Those hills made a permanent imprint on me, and I always feel most at home when I can see a mountain. B From whence does your surname hail? K It’s Portuguese, although my family thought it was French when I was growing up. It was only when I was in Paris for a couple of days that I combed through the phone book (remember those?) and came back state-side to say, “I don’t what it is, but it’s not French.” B Why politics? (And when did you realize you were political?) K Why not politics? It’s how we live together outside our family units. Besides, I had been publicly advocating that artists be more proactive, get involved in the political process, etc, and realized that I should walk the talk. B Top three (local) topics that are near and dear to your heart. K 1) Managing our environmental resources. 2) Finding a sustainable economic model for a tiny city. 3) Calling on the power of creativity and innovation to solve our problems. B Top three (national) topics that are near and dear to your heart. K 1) The Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court (a supremely evil decision, IMHO). 2) Communications policy, to keep the airways accessible to all people. 42 : OCTOBER 18, 2012

3) Immigration policy. (I should probably add “marriage equality” but honestly it’s not in my top three, although I am the first mayor in GA to sign on with Freedom to Marry.) B What was your biggest opposition while campaigning? K In my race for mayor, I was unopposed. In fact, to save lots of money, we didn’t even publish a ballot, so I am mayor without anyone ever voting for me. That fact keeps me from getting too highand-mighty. B What would surprise most people about the community of Pine Lake? K How many people volunteer to help the city stay clean and beautiful; how many lesbians are raising families here; and that we have the only police chief who is a Jewish woman of color. B Are you single or “with partner?” K Partner Alice Teeter (poet, check her website), since 1999. B You studied theater in college. What elements of theater and politics blend, if any? K The ability to organize work, deploy volunteers and make sure everyone knows how they can do their best work, managing a budget, planning ahead … sometimes I feel that the city is just a giant nonstop impromptu community ensemble production and I’m the stage manager (no one could actually direct it!). B Can you elaborate a bit on the elected gay officials in Pine Lake? K I am not the first gay mayor — Al Fowler

earned that distinction back in the ‘90s. So we’ve always had a lot of visibility. Right now, the mayor pro tempore is a lesbian, as is one of the other five council members.

B Have you met any resistance based on your sexuality from other officials? K Honestly, no.

B What’s the coolest “fringe benefit” to being mayor? K I wish there WERE a fringe benefit … but I guess it’s the laughter from my friends when they ask what they should call me (my mail is addressed to The Honorable … ) and whether they should kiss my ring, although I’m not wearing one.

[Gays] have always had a lot of visibility in Pine Lake.

B At what moment do you remember wanting to run for mayor? Was there a trigger? K After eight years on council, it became mostly about how to preserve the investment of my time thus far, and how to insure that the city stayed on what I saw as an upward trajectory. The mayor pro tempore (Melanie Hammet) and I talked about one of us doing it, and while we didn’t actually flip a coin, I only ran because she didn’t. B You’ve traveled quite a bit. What cities are best for the out and proud traveler? K San Fran (of course), lower Manhattan, most of Brooklyn, and New Orleans. I feel that Seattle and Minneapolis are pretty open. Amsterdam is very tolerant, and although I’ve only been to Barcelona for a few days, I had a feeling about that city too.

B If you could bestow some advice upon all the budding (gay) politicians, what would that be? K Be authentic, consistent, humble, and not too hard on yourself. The best thing that politics taught me was that you CANNOT please everyone. As the oldest child of a large family, I grew up thinking that was my job. I’m so glad to have finally learned that lesson. And don’t take criticism personally — often it’s not about YOU at all; it’s about the position and about people’s uneasy relationship with power.

Mayor Kathie Denobriga

Gay Republicans

LOG IN Nico Stoerner - Staff Writer

Log Cabin Republicans are known for being patriot, fiscally-conservative members of the Grand Old Party who are also gay. Jamie Ensley, the President of the Georgia Log Cabin Republican Party, gave FENUXE some insight on the party’s bottom line on presidential candidates, gay rights, and partisan politics. N What do you make of the hijacking of the Republican Party by the Tea Party? J I really wouldn’t call it a “hijacking” of the Republican Party, but more of a direct response to the fiscally reckless actions of the federal government’s stimulus spending, bailouts, and takeovers of private business. Many of LCR’s members identify with the Tea Party’s mission to bring back a constitutionally limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets. N Why do you think so many Republicans rally behind the Tea Party, which claims to be a grassroots movement, when the leadership is by and large controlled by the Koch brothers (through the disguise of Americans for Prosperity)? J As long as the Koch brothers aren’t doing anything illegal like trying to buy a senate seat or registering dead people as voters, it’s wrong to condemn citizens who deeply believe in a better vision for America. As a matter of fact David Koch, who’s spending millions to help elect Mitt Romney and other Republicans, recently stated that he supports gay marriage. N Does the LCR identify more with the Libertarian Party lately? J We are conservative, moderate, and libertarian Republicans. We are united by the belief that inclusion wins, and that the GOP is stronger when it does not alienate LGBT people or their friends and family through anti-gay rhetoric and policies. N There isn’t a high visibility among LCRs. Why is that? J I think we get as much publicity and visibility as any other group or even more so, since we don’t 46 : OCTOBER 18, 2012

blindly march in step with Aunt Barney Frank and his Democratic Party like the majority of our fellow LGBT Americans. N How do you reconcile having the GOP nominee promise to amend the constitution to specifically exclude gay marriage and do you agree with Mitt Romney’s plan to reinstate DADT? J It’s wrong to discriminate against your fellow Americans, and it’s extremely doubtful that an amendment to the constitution to exclude gay marriage would ever garner enough support to ever become the law of the land. Let’s not forget the most harmful anti-gay legislation in recent times (DADT and DOMA) were both signed into law by Clinton. I don’t recall any left-leaning organizations getting pressure not to endorse Clinton for either term. However, these are extraordinary times and I personally believe that Obama has broken his promises to our country. Rather than focusing on job creation, he’s pushed through an extremely partisan and expensive health care bill that we can’t afford, presided over a United States credit downgrade, and has made no credible attempt to cut spending as our country’s national debt has topped 16 trillion. This country - and the world - is in the middle of a financial crisis. N It’s clear that fiscal conservatism takes precedence with Republicans over social issues, so what can you say about the Republican platform under George W. Bush that was a win for LCRs? J LCR didn’t endorse Bush in 2004. As a matter of fact, we filed our DADT lawsuit while Bush was president — not Obama. Aunt Barney Frank: Who’s the Uncle Tom now?

N What are your thoughts on Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage and of his work for the gay community in general? J President Obama didn’t support gay marriage four years ago, and would have never evolved to support gay marriage during an election year if it were not in his best political interests. Doing so allowed him to energize his base and distract attention from his failed economic record. I had the distinct privilege to testify as the second witness during the DADT Trial in Federal Court in Riverside, California in 2010. During my testimony, I opened up a can of whoop ass on Obama’s smart aleck Justice Department lawyers. Federal Court Judge Virginia Philips ruled that DADT was unconstitutional. This threw Obama and the Defense Department in a total tizzy. It was disappointing that President Obama continued to direct his Justice Department to defend DADT while at the same time stating in public he wanted it repealed. It cost LCR hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight the endless appeals submitted by Obama’s Justice Department. History will show that our lawsuit was the catalyst that finally got DADT repealed. The choice was either Congress repeal DADT or the courts would repeal it and they would decide on when and how it will be done. I’m pleased that once it was formally repealed, he did sign it into law. N Do you feel that economic issues trump special interests? J Yes, having full equality broke in a third world

Jamie Ensley

socialist country doesn’t appeal to me one bit.

N Republicans profess to be antibig-government. Why, then, is the party so concerned with limiting gay rights and marriage? J The religious right still has a foothold in the Republican Party, unfortunately. The Republican Party has a big tent. I believe today’s social conservatives with outdated ideologies will only have a shallow and short-lived victory. We shall overcome and we’re on the right side of history. N Do you believe in gay rights? J I will stand with my fellow LGBT Americans and all sister organizations and fight, fight, fight for LGBT equality until they bury my dead cold body in the red Georgia clay. *Jamie Ensley’s credentials include: President, Georgia Log Cabin Republicans National Board Treasurer, Log Cabin Republicans Board Treasurer, Georgia Equality 57th District Chairman, Fulton County Republican Party Campaign Treasurer, Rep. Mike Jacobs Immediate Past Chairman, Atlanta Dogwood Festival

Hey Dumplings! I hope you had a fantastic Pride! Most of all I hope you got a sense of the sheer number of people in our community and the impact we can make when we work together. Lets not forget we are more similar than different but that different is perfectly fine! Mark your calendars now for the best Halloween party in town giving away thousands of dollars in cash to costume winners. On Friday, October 26th from 8-Midnight, Jerusalem House presents “Ghosts of Hollywood” at The Foundry at Puritan Mill featuring music by Atlanta’s own DJ Bill Berdeaux. Tickets are available at www.jerusalemhouse.org/tickets. I promise you, this is gonna be a great party you want to attend that also makes a huge difference in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS! I hope to see you in your favorite costume or bare as you dare! Also, mark your calendar for Tuesday, November 6th, Election day. It’s not just the presidential election (and his picks for our next 3 Supreme Court Justices) but critical races and issues in Georgia. When I think of the countless number of people around the world who don’t have a right to vote, it makes me value my right all the more. I hope you take time to make your vote count. If you’re passionate about politics like I am, just remember, there is always a winner and a loser. And while I hope to be on the winning team, nothing is guaranteed. boys! Going to the drugstore and buying makeup is a complete waste of your money unless you or someone you know is a properly trained makeup artist AND trained in how to apply DRAG makeup. For the money, I would encourage you to hire a drag queen whose makeup you like and who has experience doing other peoples makeup. Expect to pay between $75-$150 depending on their talent/ability. Remember, you could easily spend $75 on drugstore makeup for all the product you would need to do drag and that would not include professional application. If you’re willing to spend money on a dress or costume, its really worth it to spend money on a makeup artist. It could be the difference between 1st place or honorable mention. [SEPT. 23 – OCT. 22] It’s usually nice when visitors pop in — especially ones you haven’t seen in ages. Better tidy up the house this week — you’ve got company and it just might be that jockish hookup from craigslist! (Not the one who used to sleep-shit, but the gross one.)

scorpio

[OCT. 23 – NOV. 22] You’re about to get some sweet relief from that week-long backache when you realize the buttplug is still inside you.

SAGITTARIUS

[Nov. 23 to Dec. 21] You’re stoked to attend our Ice Party on the third of November, and we appreciate it. That hideous case of pink sock you’ve been nursing is the very reason we’re toying with the idea of ice seats.

Capricorn

[Dec. 22 to Jan. 19] You’ve been a depressed little hermit all week! Gurl, just because he didn’t call you back doesn’t mean he’s not game to see you again — it just means the UTI hasn’t cleared up. Smile more, will ya?

AQUARIUS

[Jan. 20 – Feb. 18] No, it’s not rude to insist on that enema. Last time you let him slide, you ended up with a shishkabob. Think about that. Not cool.

PISCES

[Feb. 19 – Mar. 20] You’ve never considered yourself the “bear” type, but this year’s burgeoning crop of tit-hair has inspired a personal renaissance. It’s a little weird that you’re female, but hey … only Judy can judge.

ARIES

[MAR. 21 – APR. 19] For the third straight year in a row, that horny priest costume will fail to get you laid … with consent, that is.

Taurus

[Apr. 20 – May 20] “There’s no rest for the wicked!” is your mantra lately, which is understandable. How would all those guys in the video booths get what they came for if you clocked out for naps?

GemIni

[May 21 – Jun. 22] Have you always been your biggest fan? In your head, people are going “Ooh, the twins! Sexy!” In reality, they’re thinking “That two-faced fatso gave me scabies.”

CANCER

[Jun. 21 – Jul. 22] We see lots of strapping young Russian men in your future. Too bad they’re sexually-frustrated prison guards. In other words, travel might not the best idea right now.

LEO

[Jul. 23- Aug. 22] That “work from home” kick you’ve been on is impressive, but you should probably steer clear of using your own kitchen for the scat documentary.

60 : OCTOBER 18, 2012

[Aug. 23 to Sept. 22] After you made a complete ass of yourself on your birthday, it’s probably best to just apologize. Although it’ll take awhile to heal emotionally, I’m sure your friend’s eyelashes will grow back.
