I

am both excited and happy to join the TurkishBritish family with this first post. From now on, I will meet you in this corner and I will try to inform you of developments and news concerning the two countries, in particular in the field of energy. I want to tell you a little bit about my own brand in this first article. As a renewable energy platform, yesilhaber.net is a news portal that publishes news, comments, analysis and data on the renewable energy sector. In doing so, we make sure to be precise, objective and inclusive.. In the scope of the energy transformation in the world, many countries aim to obtain 100% of their electricity from renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydroelectric and biofuels by 2050. Technological advances in energy storage and the fact that the costs of producing renewable energy can compete with fossil fuels and be even cheaper make the goal of 100% renewable energy realistic.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), if the 2050’s targets are met, the total number of jobs created in renewable energy and related sectors will exceed 40 million people and contribute $ 52 trillion to global GDP total. Even the oil-rich Gulf countries are on the verge of diversifying their energy production, IRENA predicts that by 2030, the region will reach 72 GW of renewable energy capacity. When all these developments are put together, we can see where they will lead us. Yesilhaber.net will now include more news and developments related to the UK energy sector. It will support the efforts of companies and business organizations in the two countries, particularly in the field of renewable energy. I believe our cooperation and information sharing with TurkishBritish magazine will work in that sense.

A new global energy hub: the London Energy Club Mehmet Ögütçü is a name that has not gone unnoticed in the energy sector. This is not only valid in Turkey, but also in Europe, China and even in all the major energy and financial centers of the world. Mehmet is the president of Bosphorus Energy Club (BEC) which was created at the end of 2013 in Istanbul to operate in the field of regional and global power relations. Known for his diplomatic experience in energy circles, Mehmet Öğütçü is an energy authority who has held positions of responsibility in international institutions such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), the OECD, BG Group and Energy Charter. Building on the success of the Bosphorus Energy Club in Istanbul, Mehmet Öğütçü, based in London for many years and exercising numerous international functions, is extending this project to other energy centers around the world. The London Energy Club (LEC) was the first step in this project. We can define the London Energy Club (LEC) as the meeting point for members of the world government and representatives of companies in the energy field. Without a doubt, London’s unique geographic location and expertise in this area allow this. As the world’s largest energy center, where important decisions in the financial and geopolitical fields are taken, London responds to the need for an efficient and dedicated platform where stakeholders and key players can share their knowledge, experience and their ideas.
