The new $50 million dollar event arena will be built just off I-69 and Alberta Road and is expected to generate more than $45 million dollars anually into the local economy. Hotels, restaurants and other retail outlets will be located on the same site as the 8,500 seat arena. Edinburg, Vipers partner on new wellness center The current Edinburg Parks and Recreation center is approximately 20,000 square feet. It hasn’t had any improvements since it was built in 1983. It will be torn down and replaced with a new 84,000 square foot facility consisting of multiple basketball courts, gymnasiums, a dance studio, a boxing gym, a game room, a computer room and a library, among other things. “Winning a championship is a dream come true, but doing something like this is never expected,” Bert Garcia said. “There are not many teams in the D-League doing things at this level.” The city plans to break ground on the new facility in the next few weeks, with a tentative date scheduled for October 15, 2013.
