The creature of, WE’R’ FOR Holistic Health.
INTERVIEWS

Tell me a little about yourself.

My name is Gifty Weefur, the creature of, WE’R’ FOR Holistic Health. I believe in caring for the whole person. Holistic health is rooted in the understanding that Physical, Spiritual, Mental, and Financial aspects affect your overall health, and being unwell in one aspect affects you in others.

I am a recently retired Army Airborne Combat Veteran. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare and human resources (HR). Conducting strategy, designing process and program improvements, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to implement business operations.

A few of the positions I have held during my 20 plus years of experience include, Director of International Healthcare Recruiter; Brooklyn NY, Healthcare Strategic Partner Intern; Brooke Army Medical Center, Chief of Healthcare Human Resources; Walter Reed Bethesda, Director, Nursing and Surgery Department; Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Healthcare Business Operations; 82nd ABD Fort Bragg NC.

Tell me about your program/What made you start this?

As a combat disabled veteran, after my first deployment to Afghanistan I developed PTSD, I had trouble sleeping, nightmares, anxiety, and depression. I was never offered a holistic way of dealing with those issues as a Soldier. Only medication, which masked the symptoms and created additional issues in other areas of my life.

When I discovered the holistic way of dealing with my issues, it changed my life for the better and I want to educate/offer others who are dealing with the same issues a more holistic way of dealing with life, instead of resorting to medication as a first resort.

WE’R’FOR Holistic Health LLC, is a Consulting, Teaching/Training, Mentoring/Coaching business that focuses on four aspects of the individual. Physical, Mental, Spiritual, and Financial health, helping people thrive rather than just survive through education, awareness, access and integrating evidence-based approaches to health imbalances. This method empowers individuals to access their own inner healing abilities to improve their health.

Who do you help?

My target audiences are veterans, young adults and individuals, who were not fortunate enough to have access to life changing knowledge information in these categories.

SPIRITUAL HEALTH

Cultivating spiritual health starts within by aligning with your purpose through connecting with your authentic self and creating a meaningful relationship with yourself, others and the world around you. A few tips to improving your spiritual health are;

1.Meditation/Prayer: Allows for a clearer connection to who you are and what you want out of life. It also allows you to pause and surrender, by releasing control and allowing a higher power to guide you.

2. Practice Gratitude: When you express gratitude for what you already have, you are no longer searching for happiness outside of yourself, instead you find it in that very moment. Have a gratitude journal and writing 10 things you are grateful for daily. It’s good practice.

3.Go for a Walk/Spend time in nature: Breath in the fresh air, feel the dirt under your feet, and see the wide-open sky, those are subtle ways to ground yourself.

MENTAL HEALTH

Practicing good mental health habits makes it easier to handle stress and other problems in your life when they arise. A few key mental health tips that go a long way are;

1.Value Yourself- Respect and be kind to yourself, avoid self-criticism.

2.Take care of your body- Eat healthy throughout the day. Exercise is an equal part of taking care of your body, even taking a short walk can reduce stress, increase your alertness and help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression.

3.Give and receive “good energy” - Surround yourself with good people, a person with a strong social and family network is generally healthier than a person without one. Giving to others or volunteering is a great way to maintain/improve your mental health. This is because it creates a positive feeling, a sense of self-worth and helps you connect to other people.

PHYSICAL HEALTH

Great physical health habits have a long list of benefits. A few are; decrease your stress, lower your risk of disease, increase your energy.

1.Get active and start moving – going for a walk/ run or just being physically active has enormous physical and mental benefits. Strength and resistance training are some of the best forms of exercises you can do to improve your body composition. Consistent strength and resistant training improve metabolic health, it also makes blood sugar levels easier to manage and increases how many calories you burn at “rest”.

2.Create a healthy diet. Avoid ultra-processed foods, limit sugary drinks, and stay hydrated. 3.Ensure you are getting enough sleep- avoid bright lights before sleep

FINANCIAL HEALTH

Many people struggle with financial health. Being financially literate can help people avoid making poor financial decisions, become self-sufficient and achieve financially stability. Without financial literacy our financial decisions and actions we take lack a solid foundation for success. A few tips to becoming financially literate are: 1.Ensure you are getting paid what you’re worth and spending less than you earn. To ensure you are spending less than you earn, create a budget by creating a monthly spending plan, find ways to lower your monthly bills.

2.Pay off your debt- create a debt pay off plan 3.Invest/Put money aside for retirement- save money for a rainy day as well as retirement.

4.Know how to borrow properly- bank vs. credit union, 401K plans, credit cards to name a few. Reading is a great way to Learn how money works. A few great books to get started with are “Rich Dad Poor Dad”- Robert Kyosaki, “Think and Grow Rich”- Napoleon Hill, “The Barefoot Investor”- Scott Pape, “Money: Master the Game”Tony Robbins

THE PERFUME Passion for fragrances

When we smell a particular fragrance, such as, clean laundry or a fresh peach, we instantly and unconsciously connect that smell to a portion of our memory. Smell can evoke feelings and bring back memories that we forgot we had. Perfume is, quite simply, a mastery of some of the most frequent scents, and the artful combination thereof to produce a unique smell for an individual person. To understand perfume, we would need to start at its inception, back in the time of ancient Egypt.

The good taste of fragrances arose, already in prehistory, where man learned to master fire and used it to burn aromatic herbs. Subsequently, the aromas used to connect with the divine, and to purify bodies, already at this time the essences became Luxury articles; thanks to the development of the alembic distillation and the merchants in Orient, are known to this day for being the first to commercialize aromatic ingredients, constituting a contribution in the revolution and the history of fragrances.

Egyptians were also credited for the origin of perfume. They utilized scents in everything from religious ceremonies to burial preparations and even daily wear. The rich elites of Egyptian society, male and female alike, would adorn themselves with aromas like lily to denote their status. The Persians took over the use of perfume as a sign of political status, but it wasn’t until the Greeks and Romans became acquainted with it that it began to be viewed as a form of art and produced in mass.

Archaeologists recently uncovered a perfume factory from 2,000 BC, located in Cyprus, which seemed to have specialized in the production of scents like coriander,

laurel, myrtle, lavender, and rosemary. Perfume slowly spread throughout the globe, and for a while, scents were reserved mainly for use in religious ceremonies. However, in 1190, perfume began to be produced commercially in Paris, and from there, it blossomed into a massive industry once more.

Thanks to the great discoveries and the Florentine Renaissance, among 1490 and 1520, all of Europe fell in love with fragrances and their subtypes such as perfumes, eau de parfum and colognes, and new ingredients from the discovery of America, Ceylon cinnamon, cocoa, the Black pepper, Nutmeg, Indian Clove, Peru Balsam, Allspice of the Kingdom, Guaiaco and Estoraque. In Europe in the 16th century, not only men and women perfumed themselves women, but they also did it with their fans, gloves and masks, the Italians had chypre among their favorite aromas, which were mostly female customers, who could choose more than 300 different aromas and they stood out for being persistent, strong and very expensive, in keeping with life ostentatious of the great nobles of the time.

This country has undoubtedly become the base of perfumery throughout the West, with a capital axis such as the city of Florence. A region of France was becoming known for the art of perfumery. We are talking about Grasse, popularly called the “French capital of perfume” the region contributed to the present with its great creations of roses, jasmine, lilies and other varieties for the great houses of perfumeries in the world, thus laying the foundations of what would be from then on perfume paradise.

“This piece of Spain, just a few steps away from the White House, will transport you to an elegant and royal atmosphere, surrounded by friendly faces, amazing food and World known wines. RESTAURANT REVIEW

The real Spanish Cuisine!

La taberna del Alabardero is the most emblematic and well known Spanish restaurant in the Nation’s capital. Located on I street, it has been serving amazing dishes and tapas from the Iberian peninsula for 33 years.

In my interview with Oscar Ordoñez, the taberna’s chef, he casually mentioned they go through 500 kilos of the special imported short grain rice a week. Washingtonians cannot get enough of our signature dish: the paella Valenciana! I was very impressed by Oscar and his utter devotion to my country’s gastronomy; his dedication to preserve the pure, unadulterated traditional recipes .

When I lived in Sevilla, I remember going to la taberna del Alabardero there in the historic downtown. The restaurant is well known and respected in Spain as well, for their genuine authentic dishes, the quality of their ingredients and the classy ambiance of the restaurant. Adorning one of the comedores at the DC Taberna reigns the emblematic hand painted tile mural depicting the alabarderos guarding the Royal Palace. This tile wall honors the rich history of the establishment that first opened its doors in 1974 in front of the Palacio de Oriente, Madrid’s Royal Palace. The Royal guards would frequent the restaurant, or taberna as we call it in Spain, and the name stuck Almost 50 years later and across the Atlantic Ocean, the name still stuck.

The restaurant has multiple private rooms for intimate group meetings. You know eating here is an experience to be savored and not rushed. The taberna’s general manager Ramon Pereiras, a welcoming, kind and very proper gentleman strives to sprinkle culture onto the traditional dishes. On Fridays and Saturdays the clientele gets to enjoy the gift of Spanish flamenco, always full of passion. I, like most, get mesmerized by the dance, the colorful ruffled dresses that move in sync with the rough voices of longing and the warm sound of classic guitar . I took Danza Española for years!, as most Spanish little girls get to do.. and the torture of the footwork routine, pounding on the wood tablaos was enough for me! It is a most difficult dance, hard to master …so I stuck to cooking! that is all the Spanish talent I claim to have, really….

We also interviewed Alvaro Correa, the most fantastic and charming sommelier from Madrid. The wine menu in the Taberna is very extensive ,it also spans the entire geography of the peninsula featuring its rich varieties of wine from tempranillo grapes to Rioja, Jerez wines and whites from the Rias Baixas. Most people do not know how truly delicious, inexpensive, varied, and flavorful Spanish wines truly are!

Maybe I am partial but I find this restaurant to be a no surprises ,consistent quality and charming kind of place… I will continue to gravitate to the Taberna del Alabardero when know I will be in DC and I can devote a few hours of my often hectic days to stop and to delight my senses in an exquisite gastronomic experience. I have never brought anyone here who does not leave truly delighted and satisfied!

Since its return to Formula 1 in 2015, the Mexico City Grand Prix has become one of the season’s most popular races. F1 confirmed a week-end crowd of almost 400,000 – a new record for the best attended race week-end in F1 history.

Sergio Perez, the Mexican favorite delivered a fantastic race for the cheering crowd, while Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen claimed his 14th win of the 2022 season. In doing so, Verstappen set a new record for most Grand Prix victories in a single season.

By the time this article is published F1 would have seen 22 races in the 2022 season, 15 of which have reported their weekend attendance figures. The total weekend attendances from those 15 races reached 4.8 million. According to the Grand Prix - The United States has the best-attended race weekend of the year, with 440,000 fans attending over three days of Circuit of The America’s 10th week-end. The Australian Grand Prix reported 419,000 and the British Grand Prix 401,000.

Last year, Formula 1 recorded a total attendance of 2.69 million in a season where attendance figures were impacted by the corona virus pandemic. In 2019, the last season before the pandemic began, attendance was at 4.16 million. In 2022 total attendance is predicted to beat that total by a million.

Mexico is without a doubt a global player and has the ability and infrastructure to host events such as F1. The Mexico Tourist Board (MTB) reports that Mexico’s meetings and events sector grew 6.7 percent from January to October, when compared to the same period in 2016.

Mexico City, Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez offers easy access to a delightful selection of hotels, bars. Luxury travel, culture, music and world class gastronomy. Ahead of the race weekend, Formula 1 confirmed that a new contract had been signed with Mexican race organizers and the CDMX government, keeping the Mexico City Grand Prix on the calendar until at least 2025.

The Importance of Hispanic Public Relations

Hispanics are the largest and fastest-growing minority group in the United States. According to the Pew Research Center, Hispanics made up 18% of the U.S. population in 2018, and they are projected to make up 28% of the population by 2060. Given these population trends, it’s no surprise that businesses are starting to pay more attention to the Hispanic market.

One way to tap into the Hispanic market is through Hispanic public relations (PR). Hispanic PR is a type of marketing that focuses on building relationships between businesses and the Hispanic community. Hispanic PR agencies use a variety of strategies to reach Hispanics, including traditional PR tactics like media relations and event planning, as well as newer digital strategies like social media and influencer marketing.

How Hispanic PR Differs from Traditional PR

One of the main ways that Hispanic PR differs from traditional PR is in its approach to language. Many Hispanics in the U.S. are bilingual or Spanish-dominant, which means that they prefer to consume information in Spanish rather than English. As a result, successful Hispanic PR campaigns often utilize both English and Spanish-language content.

Another key difference between Hispanic PR and traditional PR is in terms of cultural competency. To be effective,Hispanic PR campaigns must be culturally relevant and respectful of different traditions and customs. For example, a campaign that targets Hispanics around Mother’s Day may need to take into account different cultural beliefs about mothers and motherhood.

The Benefits of Working with aHispanic PR Agency

There are many benefits to working with a Hispanic PR agency, especially if your target audience is Hispanics in the U.S. Some of the most notable benefits include:

- A deep understanding of the Hispanic market:Hispanic PR agencies have their finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the Hispanic community. They can provide insights into trends, cultural nuances, and changes in demographics that businesses need to be aware of.

- Bilingual capabilities: As mentioned earlier, many Hispanics in the U.S. prefer to consume information in Spanish. By working with a bilingual agency, you can ensure that your campaigns are reaching your target audience in their preferred language.

- Cultural competence:Hispanic PR agencies understand the importance of cultural competency and strive to create campaigns that are respectful of different cultures and traditions. This expertise can be particularly helpful if your business is targeting Hispanics for the first time.

If you’re looking to tap into the growing Hispanic market, working with a Hispanic PR agency is a great way to get started. Hispanic PR agencies offer many benefits, including a deep understanding of the Hispanic market, bilingual capabilities, and cultural competence. Keep these benefits in mind as you consider working with a Hispanic PR agency for your next marketing campaign.

The fact that this all happened thousands of years ago: Ancient Egypt was a civilization in Northeast Africa situated in the Nile Valley.
