WHAT IS PROMIKO?
Promiko is a Whey Protein Isolate (WPI). WPI is the purest form of protein powder, the whey protein is isolated through a micro filtration process which eliminates elements like carbohydrates, minerals and fats leaving behind a product with a protein which is 100% native in structure with a protein content greater than 90%.
Promiko is manufactured using fresh Irish milk. Our Cross Flow Microfiltration process creates a highly pure WPI with very low levels of fat and lactose, containing all the essential amino acids vital for human health. Promiko has a protein content greater than 90%.

To ensure Promiko is of the highest quality we maintain control and oversight of the entire supply chain, ensuring full traceability from grassland to customer.
PROTEIN WITH A GREEN HEART
Ireland has some of the best grass growing conditions in the world which means our cows can graze outside on grass for long periods of time. As this grazing system is closer to a cow’s natural environment, it is preferable from an animal welfare perspective and research suggests that it results in lower contribution to methane emissions.
Grass fed milk has also been shown to have a significantly higher content of a variety of beneficial nutrients, including protein and fat, making it a better raw material.
We believe grass based production is a cost effective, environmentally friendly and efficient way to feed dairy herds. In Ireland our natural environments consists of grasslands that make up 80% of our agricultural land. This makes for the most carbon efficient dairy production in the EU and an annual grass growth rate that exceeds the EU average by more than one third.
We are a founding member of Origin Green which is the Irish National Food Sustainability Programme initiated by the Irish Food Board, Bord Bia. The programme requires all our dairy suppliers to be certified by the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme (SDAS).
CROSS FLOW MICROFILTRATION
The Cross Flow Microfiltration process was first developed in our Ballyragget whey plant in Co.Kilkenny, Ireland, over 30 years ago.
Cross Flow Microfiltration is also known as CFM within the industry. Cross Flow Microfiltration and CFM are the same process.
Over the years, this process has been further developed and refined to become the process it is today. Cross Flow Microfiltration is a non chemical, low temperature micro filtration system that uses membranes to remove fat, lactose, aggregated denatured proteins and any non dissolved particles from our whey to provide a WPI which is 100% native in structure and contains individual proteins in rations similar to the starting whey.
By producing WPI in this way we ensure no chemicals are used in the process so keeping the final product chemical free. The valuable bioactive components such as GMP and ß lactoglobulin remain intact.
LECITHINATION
Lecithin is used to make our WPI soluble upon contact with liquid.
We produce both soya lecithinated WPI and sunflower lecithinated WPI. Having two sources of lecithin provides our customers with greater flexibility, especially in terms of allergen concerns.

Protein is the second most important compound in the body, following water. All tissues and cells contain protein therefore making it essential for growth, repair and the maintenance of good health. Protein provides the body with about 10-15% of its dietary energy.
On average, 43% of the protein in the body is present in muscles making it especially important for muscle maintenance and recovery. The more active we are, the more important protein is for the optimisation of muscles and also overall health.
PROMIKO WPI, A COMPLETE PROTEIN
Whey protein has long been recognised as an outstanding protein source because of its high protein quality. Whey protein has relatively high essential amino acid and leucine levels compared with other proteins, and undergoes rapid digestion and absorption after ingestion.
One widely used method for evaluating protein quality is known as Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS). Promiko has a PDCAAS score of 1.0.
AMINO ACID PROFILE
WPI is a “complete” protein source, meaning it provides all the essential amino acids that cannot be synthesised by the body. WPI has a high ratio of the branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) leucine, isoleucine and valine. BCAAs are of particular importance in supporting muscle recovery and muscle synthesis.
Promiko WPI contains 22g of BCAAs per 100g of powder, providing 5g more than WPC80.
LEUCINE
Leucine is a key essential amino acid and BCAA in stimulating muscle protein synthesis (MPS). Leucine acts like a molecular switch that turns on the manufacturing of muscle in the body. Promiko WPI is naturally high in leucine, containing 10g per 100g of powder. This means WPI can provide a high dose of protein and leucine in a relatively small serving. To maximise MPS, protein intakes are recommended to be spread evenly across the day.
Furthermore, these doses should contain 2-3g of leucine. A 25g scoop of Promiko contains 22g of protein and 2.5g of leucine, hitting these targets.

Instantisation:
Instantisation is an important feature for WPI powders. Poorly dispersible powders can cause processing difficulties and consumer usage difficulties which can result in economic losses. Promiko has excellent rehydration properties which makes it highly functional, it performs well for both manufacturing in industrial use and consumer applications.
Sensory:
Promiko WPI displays excellent sensorial qualities. An independent, external sensory panel identified a sweet aroma with an overall clean flavour and no aftertaste. Promiko’s, neutral flavour ensures it performs exceptionally well in both flavoured and unflavoured applications.
WHO IS PROMIKO SUITABLE FOR?
Sports nutrition is no longer for the sole use of hard core body builders and elite athletes. Product users are broadening to more active lifestyle consumers
Core users are body builders and elite athletes who are brand loyal, consistent, experienced and high-volume purchasers. They are highly critical consumers who favour their own sports Ready- to-Drink (RTD) nutrition to support performance goals, and view nutrition products as necessity goods. Main product category is sports nutrition powders.
Casual users are recreational athletes demanding active nutrition in forms of powders (whey or plant-based), bars and RTD.
