n an interview with Anthony Taberna in ‘Tapatan Ni Tunying’ last July 3; the PBA cager admitted that he already was a father even before James ‘Bimby’ Yap Jr. was born. He said that he has an older child without divulging any other detail, even the child’s gender. James said,“Mayro’n, mayro’n,” when he was asked if he has another child besides Bimby. He added, “Pero kinausap ko naman ‘yong mommy, okay naman ‘yong usapan namin. Mayro’n kaaming pinag-usapan na... ‘wag muna, at saka na lang kapag malalaki [na ang mga bata].” Yap also shared how thankful he was for
his ex who kept mum on all the issues he went through before, “Actually gusto ko magpasalamat sa ex ko dati na kung anuman ang pinagdaanan ko hindi siya nakisawsaw o nakialam, siniraan ako.” He then added how happy he was to be able to bond with his son, Bimby more and how their relationship is growing more. Admitting, “Dati no’ng every Friday na ‘yong schedule ko, unang kita namin talagang may ilangan. Ang hirap, At least ngayon nakikipaglaro na.” James says that he doesn’t see Bimby’s gusto with basketball but proudly admits that whatever path his son chooses, he’ll be there to support him.

t took both father and daughter 14 long years before they could see each other again. Roger Tawile, the half-British father of JessyMendiola came from Bahrain and was the one who made efforts for them to be reunited. It had always been the actress’ wish and even shared it in an interview with ABS-CBN last December. The 21-year-old actress took to Instagram to show how happy she was with the reunion, ”After 14 years… I couldn’t help but cry when I saw him again. No words can explain how much I missed my Papa.” 4

Just like in any fairy tale, this chinita princess has a ‘Godmother’, not a woman per se, but rather ‘Big Brother’ from the US franchise, Pinoy Big Brother. She was one of the ‘housemates’ in the 2006 Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition, which was aired in April and May of 2006. She didn’t go home teary-eyed because she left the famous yellow house as the first Teen Big Winner. Mind you, she was never even nominated for eviction. And that is when it all started for Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu or Kim Chiu, one of ABS-CBN’s sought-after leading ladies and top-billed actress. But just like any other fairytale, there always is a low-point in the protagonist’s life. Kim is the fourth child of five siblings, of Chinese-Filipino descent and was born in China on April 19, 1990. Her mother abandoned them when she was just nine years old, which led her to move from one home to another as a child. She grew up with her paternal grandmother and siblings. It was only in 2013 that she was reconciled with her father.

She may have experienced a lot of ‘unfortunate’ events in her life but she was never known and seen as someone who is having troubles with her family. She was seen in PBB as a bubbly, go-getter and a very funny 16-year-old teenager. Even before she left ‘Kuya’s’ house, she was already able to record her own song titled ‘Peng You’ or ‘Friend’ in English, alongside Juris of MYMP. After winning the reality show, Chiu instantly became a ‘superstar’. She became a regular in ASAP XV, played in some of ‘Love Spells’ episodes and played one of the lead roles in the movie, First Day High. Everything and then some followed. She starred in a primetime TV series Sana Maulit Muli. She was nominated as the Most Promising Female Star in the 38th Guillermo Mendoza Box Office Awards and she bagged it. She was also named as the Best New Female TV Personality at the 21st PMPC Star Awards. She took those two major awards only a year after she won from PBB.
Some of the TV series she did were: ‘Ina, Kapatid, Anak’, ‘My Binondo Girl’, ‘Toda Max’, ‘Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin’ and ‘Tayong Dalawa’ to name a few. She also starred in the movies: ‘I’ve Fallen For You’, ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll X’, ‘I Love You, Goodbye’ and some more. Her most recent movie was ‘Bride for Rent’ together with her love team, Xian Lim. The primetime princess is now filming a movie, which is going to be shown sometime this year and one of the official entry for the Metro Manila Film Festival titled, “Feng Shui 2”, under Star Cinema starring Kris Aquino and Coco Martin; directed by Chito Roño. The 24-year-old actress can be seen in ABS-CBN’s primetime TV series, Ikaw Lamang where she portrays the character of ‘Isabelle’. She also is a mainstay in ASAP shown every Sundays.

Ate Vi binatikos ng mga grammar Nazis Again, thanks for believing in me. Until next time.”
A
ng tinaguriang Star of All Seasons at Batangas governor na si Vilma Santos-Recto binatikos sa social media dahil sa dedication letter na kanyangipinadala kay Kris Aquino. Last June 30, the Queen of All Media, Kris Aquino posted a photo in her Instagram account (@lovekrisaquino) with the caption: “Super sarap Ensaymadas from my Idol sa trabaho, serbisyopubliko& sa pag handle ng personal na buhay, sa pagigingmabuti at mapagmahal na asawa at nanay! Thank You Ate Vi!” I take all of these as constructive criticisms. Tao lang; nagkakamali. Sa mga bashers… Salamat po.

To which, Kris texted: “I’m sorry Ate Vi. I didn’t think about the wrong spelling because what mattered to me was your kindness & the thought behind the card.” Muling sinabini Aquino kung gaano niya ina-admire si Ate Vi, saying: “I woke up & saw this text from Ate Vi. And it made me realize why I am such a fan of this woman: she is BRAVE, she has a WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR, she has WISDOM, and she is TRUTHFUL! Above everything else, she remains HUMBLE! HINDI SYA PIKON KASI NGA ALAM NYA THAT HER LIFE IS GOOD. Her example will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life.” Though Aquino already expressed her apologies to Ate Vi, some Netizens can’t help but express their opinions. One Facebook user said, “Parang may halong malice yongpag post ni Kris ng card niVilma, well it might just be my dirty mind. Hindi naman kasi need pang ipostyong card just to show the world how sweet a person Vilma is, lalonanga at may wrong spelling and grammar, which I am very sure she noticed. She could just have posted a picture of the ensaymadas without the card and said that these were from Vilma. I don’t think anybody would doubt her word nor would it make Vilma less sweet in the eyes of their fans.” Another Facebook user says there’s nothing wrong with it, “In a world of text there is nothing wrong with spelling nowadays it is the sound of a true feeling for all we know we may have new word in the dictionary soon.”

Tips brought to you by Easy Padala. Coming soon to Calgary!
2. Credit cards to remit!=more expensive than the actual listed transaction fee Many online remittance platforms now accept credit cards when sending money. One of which is “Xoom”.You need to transact in US dollars, so you may lose out on exchange rate when transacting using a Canadian credit card.
You need to be cautious though because there are credit card fees that are NOT included in your transaction. It will ONLY show up on your credit card statement at the end of the month. It’s basic, “use credit card, you get charges/interest” and the same goes when you use it for remittance and it’s about 1.5%.
“I was once charged 1.5% of the total amount once. For a $1,000 transaction, that’s $15 on top of the transaction fees I already paid. “
3. Online platforms using debit cards. Bank with the Big 4.
US-based online platforms such as “Xoom” ONLY accept US accounts for debit. There are other online platform that useInterac Online to debit funds directly from your Canadian account. These however, are limited. Only 4 Canadian banks currently participate in it: TD Canada Trust, Royal Bank, Scotia Bank and Bank of Montreal (BMO).
This is a compelling reason to open a bank account with these 4 banks, but most of the time their accounts have a monthly charge which can range anywhere from $9 to $30 a month. These charges are largely dependent on the number of transactions www.filipinostarmagazine.com

JULY HOROSCOPE Your social life picks up speed this month! Expect to fall in love with a person, an idea or a passionate new pastime. Follow your bliss – even if you have to scout around to find it first. If you’ve been trying to get pregnant, this could be your year.
Home, family and real estate are areas of growth an opportunity. If you’re not truly happy where you are, then you’ll figure out where or how you will be the happiest and do something about it. An extended family reunion is highly likely, or you may be welcoming a new addition to the family.
ASTROTWINS, ASTROLOGY FORECAST

TFC’s One Kapamilya Go 201 into a giant
The main show under award-winning film and TV director John-D Lazatin and his team opened with one of the most creative and hilarious video spoofs in Filipino television done on the famously viral Monica vs Nicole catfight scene of TFC’s phenomenal teleserye hit, The Legal Wife. Intentionally cheesily overdubbed with dialogue that involved mangling of hair extensions and the French language, the spoofed scuffle ended with Nicole inviting Monica to OK Go in Toronto, a dolled up Vice Ganda approving and a countdown that led to the electric opening number with Maja Salvador doing her song-and-dance rendition of J.Lo’s upbeat dance megahit, “Goin’ In”.

ORONTO, CA, June 26, 2014 – The fireworks for Canada’s 147th birthday on July 1 are yet to launch but the all-Filipino Kapamilya gang from ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) had already started one humongous party of thousands when it held last June 21 One Kapamilya Go in Toronto at the prestigious Direct Energy Centre and Ricoh Coliseum. As long lines filled tens of activity booths of TFC, myRemit and event sponsors, and waves of hungry ticketholders packed the dining hall of Filipino food vendors, many attendees trooped early to the game hall for the Celebrity Bingo which was emceed by Tart Carlos and ViviekaRavanes, the comedy duo from TFC’s global rom-com hit, Be Careful With My Heart. Gleeful shrieks pierced the air not only when winners called out “Bingo!” but also when celebrities like Maja Salvador, Enrique Gil and Xian Lim made surprise appearances. There were also well-applauded performances from local talents InahCanlapan and singers from the Josie De Leon School of Performing Arts.

The cheers haven’t died down when the reigning Philippine king of the dance floor, Enrique Gil, joins Maja before breaking out with the back-up dancers with his own hit, “OHA! Kaya Mo Ba ‘To (Can You Do This?)”, as his colorful music video with an infectious beat plays on the big screen. Enrique followed this up with a sexy, updated version of the Hagibis classic, “Katawan (Body)”. Maja returned and invited two obliging males from the audience to sing along with her as she performed her first hit, “Dahan-Dahan (Slowly)” while scenes from the music video is flashed. She then called in Tart and Vivieka who had the audience giggling with their version of Tuesday Vargas’s classic novelty hit, “Babae Po Ako (I’m Really A Girl)”.

4 in Toronto turns
TFC 20 annivERSARY party Giggles turned into more shrieks when Tart and Vivieka introduced Angel Locsin who exuded wholesome charm with her rendition of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away”, followed by a cool performance of Zia Quizon’s jazzy pop hit, “Ako Na Lang (Let It Be Me)”. Tart and Vivieka, joined by ABS-CBN North America Managing Director Olivia De Jesus and ABS-CBN Global Head of Sales & Distribution Marco Amoranto, took a brief break to announce the winner of Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) raffle draw for two round-trip tickets from Toronto to the Philippines. The lucky one was Rosalie Siaga from North York, Ontario. The show turned wild and wacky when Tart and Vivieka called back Angel and Maja to channel their TV alter egos, Monica and Nicole, respectively, and act as warring coaches for the The Legal Wife Royal Rumble Acting Game. The game had two contestants each for the Monica and Nicole teams who had to reenact the famous catfight scene from said show. The contestants’ very game attempts had the entire crowd inside Ricoh Coliseum, as well as the celebrities, in stitches. Judging via audience claps and cheers, the pair of Team Nicole ran away with the victory. After the ladies came in the man for the ladies of the house: matinee idol Xian Lim whose entry was greeted with a flood of camera flashes from adoring fans. Xian thrilled them with two numbers: his own single, “Di Bale (Never Mind)” and the super band Parokani Edgar’s “Harana (Serenade)”. He also delighted two lady fans who he called to join him on stage and gave them gentle hugs and kisses. The entire crowd went from swooning to standing, screaming and jumping as stand-up comic, Philippine box-office King and
among the most watched TV hosts, Vice Ganda, barged into the stage packing megatons of energy with his “Boom Panes” number that played like a national rock anthem. Two game men excitedly joined him on stage to do the dance moves and won Boom Panes shirts that Vice Ganda autographed right there. To the thousands, Vice had the presence and charisma of a charming cult leader with followers ready to do whatever he tells them to. Then he blew everyone away with his voice and range via a Rey Valera hits medley. The show was reaching its ultimate climax. Enter TFC 20th Anniversary Ambassador – Mr. Pure Energy himself, Gary Valenciano. Ageless, dynamic and kinetic, Gary V kicked off a veritable mini-concert segment with the nostalgic, “BabalikKaRin (You Will Return)”, peppering it with his unique dance moves. Then he showed what world-class means with his TFC teleserye theme song medley, followed by the TFC 20 theme song, “Galing ng Filipino (Greatness of the Filipino), and climaxed with his own greatest hits medley that had everyone dancing on their feet. “We promised to turn Toronto into the happiest place for our fellow Filipinos and we hoped that we achieved it with this year’s One Kapamilya Go. Our brothers and sisters deserved it,” said ABS-CBN Global Head of Events, Ad Sales & Trade Marketing Ricky Resurreccion. “This is TFC’s 20th anniversary offering so we should showcase the best 360-degree entertainment experience that we have nurtured in the past two decades,” said Olivia De Jesus, ABS-CBN North America Managing Director. “We will continue to deliver this and even aim higher all in the service of the Filipino globally as our founders mandated.”

Puerto Princesa, Palawan:
The ocean, the pursuits
T
By: Kristine Buenavista
here’s this secondhand book that I’ve got last year which mentioned about a woman who traveled in an area of Nepal and decided to stay there for years. she mentioned that being there made her see how far the world has gone – and that she wishes it would take a pause and just do not brace too much advancement. I remember underlining her words. I remember how strongly I felt her. I was in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. I wish Iloilo City has more trees. So while traveling around some tourist spots, Manong and Jojo mentioned to us that Balsahan Natural Pool is slowly becoming too commercialized. Cement, higher entrance fee, painted rocks and sheds. I guess it’s the same case for most of the more ‘touristy’ places in this country. I am not the happiest about it. Both of them are disheartened too.
Though I totally admire how the local government and the people maintain such cleanliness in most places, I have this fear that in 2 or 3 years’ time, the natural beauty shall be stripped off slowly, painfully. Materialism is this enormous powerful beast these days.Tourism, if not cultivating sustainability — is really a scary thing. Let me tell you this though, I felt small and blessed again – finding a little piece of paradise with the mangroves (where beach bummers do not usually stay at) in Pristine. Snorkeled in some islands of Honda Bay and went wow to the colorful sea creatures. Sit grateful for the spectacular summer skies whilst tricycle, multicab and jeepney rides. Walked unfamiliar corners. Got sensuous – gastronomically. Marveled at the beautiful creations of the imagination and the hands. Met new people and 28
shared a mini-eternity with them within a fleeting moment. It was great to do Couchsurfing again. I’ve had really enriching exchanges with our host and the other travelers (from China, USA and France) in her house. Their dog, Snoopy gave birth in our second night there. It was a lovely evening under the stars, over vino and lots of stories about being 24, languages and so forth. At Iwahig (prison without walls), an www.filipinostarmagazine.com
inmate stood beside me and told me that he misses his family so much- and that it will take him 28 years more (not sure if he has someone/something to go home to by that time). One of them who made some wood burning art gave us a gentle farewell and told Marrz, “I pray that you become famous. Keep making those beautiful paintings.” Back home (really sunburned), we made tokwabunwiches and talked about the trees, the city in the forest and the roots band from Iloilo who found home there.
