orn as Andrea Nicole Guck Eigenmann in June 25, 1990, to celebrity parents, Mark Gil and Jaclyn Jose and is of Kapampangan, American, German and Spanish descent, she has always been present in the talks of the showbiz world.

Dubbed as the “princess of the Philippine teleserye” Eigenmann started her showbiz career back in 2007 when she first appeared in ABS-CBN’s soap opera, Prinsesa ng Banyera, where she played the role of Sandy. She then joined the reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Plus in 2008. She was also one of the 12 finalists of the MYX VJ Search in 2009. This 23-year-old actress had her break when she played the lead and the

title role in the fantasy drama series of ABS-CBN, Agua Bendita. Here she played a dual role, Agua and Bendita. Ratings went through the roof because she portrayed it well, the normal twin (Bendita) and the one with a physical defect (Agua). Viewers loved her. 2010 was a good year for Andi because she starred in eight episodes of Your Song Presents where she played different characters showcasing her talents. She also starred in two films, Mamarazzi and Shake, Rattle and Roll 12. In the following year, Andi played the role of Gabrielle “Gabby” Marcelo in a family military drama series, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin alongside Maja Salvador and Coco Martin.

On Hiatus Eigenmann’s showbiz career was put to a halt when the news of her pregnancy broke out. The actress’ alleged pregnancy started surfacing after a blind item appeared in a blog in June 23, 2011. Jaclyn Jose, Andi’s mother, then confirmed her pregnancy in a live interview with Mario Dumaual on TV Patrol on June 29. Andi Eigenmann’s pregnancy was bombarded with controversies. Guesses of who the father was, was a hot topic. Jaclyn didn’t name who got her daughter pregnant but stated that it was Andi’s first boyfriend, that brought about more noise.

I have no idea who or what kind of person all the fame and fortune has turned him into now. All I hope is that he’s well.

“Maybe instead of feeling bad that Albie left me to take on this responsibility by myself, I should thank him for giving me the opportunity to go out and find genuine happiness once again. I’d obviously love for him to be around eventually. You know, to save myself the struggle to find a good way to explain his absence to his child. At the same time, I’d understand. Cus (sic) after all, I have no idea who or what kind of a person all the fame and fortune has turned him into now. All I hope is that he’s well,” posted Andi but later on changed Albie’s name to just “daddy”. But Casiño denied it to be true. 8

Andi with Baby Ellie. The young actress gave birth to a healthy baby girl on November 23, 2011 at St. Luke’s Medical Center via caesarean section and named her “Adrianna Gabrielle”, with the nickname “Baby Ellie”.

Young mother, no regrets In an article posted last September 15, 2012 on Inquirer.net, Andi said on her baby girl, “She looks like a marshmallow, I swear! She’s my happiness. I’m so happy to have her in my life. She’s such a happy baby. She’s always laughing and smiling. I feel like she’s going to be a supermodel one-day. I just hope she doesn’t inherit my height!” As a single mother, Andi Eigenmann wanted to raise her daughter “to become an honest person.” “I will never lie to my daughter. I will make her grow up to be someone who is not afraid to be herself in front of other people,” shared Andi to Inquirer. net. www.filipinostarmagazine.com

Asked what she dreams for her daughter, Andi told Inquirer.net, “I want Ellie to be happy all her life, and content with what she has. I hope to provide everything she needs; yet I’d like her to stay grounded. I want her to have a big heart and see that life is a beautiful thing.”

I will never lie to my daughter. I will make her grow up to be someone who is not afraid to be herself in frontof other people

Andi in September 23, 2011, revealed in her blog that the father of her child was Albie Casiño, an actor who starred in the hit remake of Mara Clara.

Andi shared that she learned “to be strong and stay strong, no matter what.” She added that it has taught her to keep fighting and never give up. “It has proven to me that no matter what my heart desires, as long as I believe, it will come to me. Just like Ellie did!”

Filipino Star Magazine. Vancouver Edition. May, 2014

Asked what advise she would give her daughter about love and men when she grows up, Andi told Inquirer.net, “I’ll tell her to always be smart when it comes to those things. I’ll tell her to respect herself first, and that it’s okay to take her time. She has to be super-picky!” Andi is known and loved for her honesty and her optimist view of things. Projects kept pouring in; Kahit Puso’y Masugatan, Pridyider and A Secret Affair were her projects for 2012 alone. Though her come back in showbusiness was not without controversies. e.g. Albie Casiño’s slapping incident, and Andi’s announcement of Casiño’s beating. Andi has risen like a Phoenix born from the ashes. She weathered the storm, came out a victor and is soared high. Andi Eigenmann currently plays the role of Betty in “Dyesebel”, Anne Curtis’ rival to their love interest, Fredo, played by Gerald Anderson. She’s one of the most awaited and celebrated actors in the said primetime teleserye.

ormer best friends Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador have reportedly made up, a year after their friendship was reportedly strained after Maja’s involvement with Gerald Anderson. An article posted in Push. com.ph quoted host-columnist Ogie Diaz, who confirmed via Twitter that the two have reconciled.

Gerald Anderson Reports say it was Maja who reached out to Kim. The former invited Kim to go to the gym and that is when they patched things up.

Diaz tweeted, “Yehey! Bati na pala sina @dprincessmaja at @prinsesachinita last week. Nagkita sila at nagkatsikahan na. #SarapNgFeeling.”

During the rift, Chiu expressed regret that her friendship with Salvador was put to waste, following reports of Salvador and Anderson dating.

The host-columnist also mentioned that Kim Chiu has already talked to Gerald Anderson, her former boyfriend. “Usap na din sina gerald at @prinsesachinita kanina. Nagbibiruan pa nga sila. All’s well that ends well. “Sarap ng walang kaaway!” –kim,” he wrote.

Kim and Gerald were once together in the past, but broke up in 2010 in the middle of controversies reportedly involving Gerald’s mother and her disapproval of Kim dating her son.

The TV actress said she doesn’t want to experience the same problems being faced by her character in “The Legal Wife”. Salvador plays Nicole, the best friend of Monica, Angel Locsin’s character. Nicole spends a lot of time at work with Monica’s husband, Adrian (played by Jericho Rosales) that resulted to their extramarital affair. Maja told Pep.ph that she had to read the book How To Be A Good Mistress to prepare herself for the role. “Ang sabi dun, kung kabit ka, huwag mong gagawin yung mga ginagawa

Pep.ph asked Salvador if she was afraid that her role as a mistress would negatively affect her image. Maja admits, “Siyempre, iisipin mo rin ang image mo. Pero ngayon kasi, hindi na importante kung sweet image ka ba as long as mapakita mo sa kanila na itong role na ito, kakayanin kong gampanan.”

Co-host, Boy Abunda probed the TVhost/actress wherein the latter said, “it is appropriate kapag may pinagdadaanan ka.” Reports followed and confirmed the “short-lived romance” with QC Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista has ended.

A source told ABS-CBN that Gana and Bautista have long ended their relationship but is still in good terms, same with the mother of his two other children. Bautista said in an interview with Esquire Philippines in its April issue posted in ABS-CBNNews.com, “I am very thankful that they raised our children quite well. I respect them as individuals kahit ‘di kami nagkatuluyan.”

ABS-CBNNews.com said in its report that it was the Mayor’s decision to stop pursuing Aquino because his children were badly affected upon hearing the news of him & Kris’ budding relationship. QC Mayor has two kids with longtime partner Tates Gana – 17-yearold Athena and 10-year-old Harvey, both newcomers in showbiz. Bautista has two other children from previous relationship.

More Action and Drama in Vhong Navarro’s Case Update

A

ction, Sex and Drama – a common recipe for a blockbuster movie, continues to unfold in the persona of Navarro – Cornejo – Lee story. When the face of a battered Vhong Navarro appeared on television and social media sites, thousands of viewers immediately tuned in; it garnered huge media attention and became the talk of the town for weeks, even months. Different versions of the stories unfolded one after the other.

Here’s a recap of what has happened so far in the saga. First, after the pictures of a battered Navarro were publicized, news reports informed the pubic that Navarro was mauled after visiting a female friend in her condominium. Later, news said that there was a blotter about Navarro allegedly trying to rape the woman he visited. In an interview with Boy Abunda, Navarro named the woman as Denice Cornejo and the men who mauled him as Cedric Lee

and company. Denice Cornejo then went on air and said that Navarro tried to rape her and that Cedric Lee and his friends only tried to save her from Navarro. Navarro on the other hand claimed that every-

A smiling Cedric Lee being escorted to Tacloban airport to return to Manila. thing was a set-up and Cedric Lee was extorting money from him. More interviews were given one after the other. The NBI got involved and cases were filed. Eventually, Cornejo’s rape case was dismissed for lack

www.filipinostarmagazine.com

of evidence; a non-bailable case of serious illegal detention was filed against Lee and his cohorts. The NBI also issued a warrant for their arrest. After months of no news, the story started to pick speed and media attention again as Cedric Lee and a Simeon Raz were arrested by the NBI in Samar after weeks of avoiding arrest. Police reports say that the two tried to hide in a coconut farm in Eastern Samar. According to Lee, however, he was in Samar to conduct business and not to hide. He is not avoiding arrest and in fact submits himself voluntarily to the NBI. The two is currently in NBI custody. Cornejo has also since surrendered to the NBI after being in hiding for the past 2 weeks following the arrest of Lee. For some, the story has been long-dragged for months and is already passé. But for others, and the media, they still can’t get enough - not while the story still sells.

In an article published by Inquirer.net, the husband and wife tandem were praised by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who wrote their profile for Time magazine, for their “smart approach into composing music.” “They are both completely steeped in the traditions of Broadway musicals, but they’re really smart and would never be happy just regurgitating what’s come before,” wrote Parker and Stone. Lopez and Anderson-Lopez, in a video published in Time’s website, cited their parents and each other as the most influential people in their lives. The couple bagged an Oscar gold statuette for the Best Original Song award for Frozen’s “Let it Go” last March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. george clooney eternal bachelor no more

G

eorge Clooney is one open book in Hollywood. People have kept track of his journey towards the spotlight and fame; people closely watched the growth of his career from being an actor to director and later, a producer. Needless to say, people paid close attention to the search of finding someone that will make George Clooney say ‘I Do’ once again.

George Clooney, the Eternal Bachelor Clooney was married to Talia Balsam in 1989 but got divorced in 1993. After the said divorce, Clooney started dating personalities such as Ginger Allen, Lisa Snowdown, Sarah Larson, Elisabeta Canalis, Stacy Keibler, Krista Allen and a lot more. Some turned into a relationship that counted years. For some, let’s just say, it ended before it even began. This two-decade red carpet parade of eye-candies in Clooney’s arm branded him as the eternal bachelor – a guy that is single for life. George Clooney acknowledges and in fact, supports this brand. In an interview in 2008, he said: “I don’t expect to ever get married again or have children. I am never at home and every woman gets sick of it...If I was them, I would never put up with me for long—and they don’t.” As to why Clooney prefers the uncommitted journey, he says he wasn’t very good at it (marriage). People (read: young girls, not so young ‘girls’ and all other people that love men) celebrated for George’s eternal bachelor status. Who would not? At the age of 52, time did nothing but increased his charm and enigmatic smile. His sex appeal did not wane a little; his ‘sexiest man alive’ title proves that. However, there is still a group out there that concerns themselves with Clooney’s ‘no settling down policy’; probably because of the non-utilization of the good genes. Thus, the news that Clooney got to his knee and proposed with a 7-carat emerald cut engagement ring that rumors say cost around $750,000 got everyone’s attention.

The islands have blessed me with those kinds of nights when the stars, fireflies, and plankton are out…all together. gone to its last piece of ember, my companions’ sleep-breath reverberates with the waves that crash against the hill-rocks. As the moon shone above me quietly, I dreamed about the many wanderers who have listened to the sound of the forest 18

mindfully until its sonnets and songs became part of their own voice. Jiji ( the beach area’s caretaker) and her family (including their dog, Brownie) shared with us their time and energy. We shared meals and struggles. Their kids have played with us, J walked with M and me to buy ice (you need to walk far and need to conquer the uphill points). When people go back from the market, they have to walk further from where vehicles can reach…carrying everything on their backs. We even passed by a woman who just went furniture-shopping. Kids and men carried her dividers and chairs on their shoulders and back. And, to take breaks, they rest under naked seneguelas trees. We ate straight from the ocean. Fresh fish are so affordable and we bough them straight from the fishermen (as they arrived ashore). Our soles touched corals while dipping and swimming. Sometimes, your sensations go wild when your feet touch textures that are too slimy, too odd. But, still, you know deep within there is this profound sense of connectivity when going barefooted. Back in the days (90s until 5 yrs ago), I spent summer vacations with my loved-ones in good old San Roque Beach. Families would bring anything that can be grilled and liters of soda. We’d bury bottles in the sand because it’s the only way to keep them cool. We’d get heavily sunburned. Days after the excursion, our backs, noses, and foreheads would peel off and we’d feel like little snakes. www.filipinostarmagazine.com

These days, even with the rise of mass tourism, we still can find places that do not cost us a lot but can actually give us more. And yes (thankfully), these places seem to find us, serendipitously. Each chance to be somewhere else does not always mean perfect. But every chal-

lenge, every conflicting moment is a part of its entirety, its beauty… its magic.

yoga pants the new jeans

fashion By: Kristine Buenavista

T

he sight of old books in the quaint shelves gave me an instant connection to the bookshop. My heart moved as I saw stacks of Murakami, Rilke, Hemingway, and other authors. The café has its own quaintness and I was lost in my free-spirited world for a while. “Lovely pants…where did you get those?” A straight-forward query like that about yoga pants was new to me. But since I am fond of random encounters with strangers, I allowed the conversation to start.

I love yoga pants. To me they are the new jeans in today’s time - comfortable, versatile and flattering for women of diverse shapes, ages and colors. Away from my yoga and meditation time, I love wearing them anywhere I go, whatever I do. Made of light material, they are perfect for those who love to move freely; those who want to stay trendy, classy, and beautiful.

Here are my top five different ways to wear your yoga pants fashionably. Always remember that comfort and confidence are two valuable factors that you need to have in mind. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, dare, experiment, and enjoy the moments of pairing different tops and footwear with your yoga pants.

Filipino Star Magazine. Vancouver Edition. May, 2014

HOROSCOPE - may 2014 Work first, play later! With the energizing sun in your money-and-productivity zone until May 20, you’re in “charging Ram” mode, focused on your top priorities. Don’t let anything deter you, Aries; you stand to cash in. A relationship could dive into serious soul-mate waters at this full moon, too. The intensity lightens after May 20, as you turn you into quite the chatterbox. Resume your role as unofficial mayor of your inner circle and organize some excursions. The sun heats up your sign for the first three weeks of May, putting you in rare form. While you can be changeaverse, you’re revved up to embrace the new. Make like your sign-mate George Clooney and throw the world a curveball with some “breaking news from your camp.” (Turns out you’re not so predictable, after all.) But you’ll be back to your steady-Freddy ways again by May 20. Give it a rest, Gemini. You’re unusually lowkey until May 20. We’re not saying you need to go on a silent meditation retreat, but a little more introspection will work wonders to soothe your soul. Escape the fray to rejuvenate, and you’ll return renewed once the sun moves into Gemini on May 20. Circle May 28 as your personal new year, when the annual Gemini new moon resets your cosmic clock. This could bring attention to a personal project, too. All eyes are on you! What shell? You’re hardly the shy and retiring Cancerian this month.Tap into the team spirit and connect with your tribe. You’re fearlessly airing your edgy opinions, not caring whom you offend on Twitter or at your friend’s housewarming brunch. It’s nice to see this outspoken side of you emerge, but you’ll be ready to crawl back into Chez Crustacean by May 20. Tie up loose ends for the next month, preparing for the sun to enter your sign on June 21. Hello, fresh start. 24

ASTROTWINS, ASTROLOGY FORECAST Much like Lauren Conrad, your favorite “position” in May is C.E.O. so get ready to move on up the ladder. You’re set to score some professional gains during the first three weeks of May. Don your strategist’s chapeau, Leo. Make those power moves and stay focused on your long-range goals. You can get back to your bon-vivant ways after May 20. Blow off steam after those long nights at the office with some well-deserved celebrations.

Sedentary days, begone! After a sluggish winter, you’re inspired to get moving. With the radiant sun in this wellness-focused zone through May 20, you’re suddenly the first one at CrossFit class or jockeying for juice at the cold-press bar. Inspired to whip up some healthy fare? Check out the new Clean Eats recipe book from Alejandro Junger, MD. On May 20, it will be time to partner up, indie Archer. Delegate, collaborate, and get into “power couple” mode; it takes two.

Adventure is calling your name! Hit a music festival or take a weekend outside the city limits. Weather permitting, get out into nature for some camping—or “glamping,” for you glamorous Virgos. If you’re stuck staying local, plan a staycation. Explore metaphysical adventures, personal-growth workshops, or other curiosities in your ‘hood. By May 20, get your nose back to the grindstone as you focus on your professional goals.

Get set for some well-deserved fun, Capricorn. Your hardworking sign rarely gives you a break. It’s time to escape on a pleasure cruise. Romance could come into the picture now, especially since you’re finally enjoying all the spoils of your toils. There’s nothing more attractive than a Goat in repose, so lean back — not in — and indulge. You can resume your hardworking ways on May 20. Until then, rack up a few memorable “sins” so you have something to repent for later.

You’re unusually quiet this month. Libras like to keep things light, but you’re in a pensive mood now, ready to explore those deeper emotional channels. During this intimate month, a relationship could heat up (ooh-la-la), and you’ll want to focus on one or two VIPs rather than spreading yourself too thin. Resume your social-director duties after May 20. Pack your bags, because a travel opportunity could arise — especially near the Gemini new moon on May 28.

Nomad no more? Even your gypsy soul needs a break here and there, and the first three weeks of May are your annual time to nest. It’s time to play domestic doyenne: Host a rooftop cocktail party, visit your relatives, or turn on your stove for the first time all year. You’ll be ready to swap the Lululemon for Louboutins after May 20. Go forth and paint the town crimson as only an Aquarian can.

It’s dynamic duo time. This month, it’s all about you pairing up. You could find that rare person who just “gets” you — a needle in the haystack, indeed. But, on May 14, get ready for your guitar solo when the Scorpio full moon puts the spotlight directly on you and a personal project gets a big boost. A connection could turn official near the May 28 Gemini new moon, or you could feel sexy sparks flying.

Overstimulation alert! Your sign needs peace, but you won’t get much for the first three weeks of May. Your gadgets are pinging and ringing nonstop, so you might as well just go for it. Get set to multitask and live several lives in a single day. It’s a great time to catch up with old connections and to make some new ones. The payoff? You’ll get a serious break after May 20. Is it time for a move or to switch up your décor? The Gemini new moon on May 28 brings a fresh start to domestic matters.

fatloss vs. weightloss

W

eight loss is so last decade. Let’s now learn more about “Fat loss”. Most illnesses and discomfort the body experiences is brought about by the excess fat the body carries around. Here is the condensed version of my e-book, The Kitchen Alchemist: Diary of a Weight loss Counselor. In 3 key illustrations, I intend to make it easy to understand the science of permanent and healthy process of expending fat. Most diets are geared towards just losing weight, and more often than not, this is not a permanent solution. Fat is the culprit and focus should be on this.

ginataang halo-halo

By: Zeala Cortes

Author of “Kitchen Alchemist: Diary of a Weight Loss Counselor Mom”

Ginataang halo-halo is best as merienda (snack) or as a dessert to a light meal. I would make our daughter this during spring as she began experiencing hay fever. The pollen count during spring is enormously high that’s why allergy attacks are very common. Allergies such as hay fever, asthma and dermatitis are brought about by inflammation due to the body’s reaction to a number of allergens.

To book a free SaladMaster demo of the titanium steel cookware, call Mercy at 604-805-5703.

C

ooking this healthy dish is very easy. Essentially you just need to put everything in a covered pot and cook in low heat for 45 minutes.

Ingredients: 1 4 ½ 1

Can organic coconut milk Tbsp. Xylitol white sugar Cup filtered water or Alkaline water Pack Manila’s Best Ginataang Halo Halo, frozen.

In a pot, mix the cocnut milk, sugar and water. Add the frozen halo-halo mix. Cover the pot and cook in low heat for 45 minutes. For best results and in order to maintain the natural flavors of the ingredients, use a Salad Master titanium steel pot.

Nanay’s notes:

• Xylitol is a natural sugar made out of hardwood fibers, very much similar to maple syrup. It’s a natural low calorie sugar. It has the same sweetness as regular sugar, without spiking your blood sugar levels. Diabetics may use this instead of regular refined sugar. I love baking with Xylitol since you can substitute sugar in the recipe 1 is to 1. • I also use Manila’s Best Halo Halo frozen pack. All the ingredients are there and can be used frozen. The pack cost less than $4.00 and is all natural, without preservatives. • Thai Kitchen brand Organic Coconut Milk is my favorite brand because it is preservative-free. Chemical preservatives causes cell mutation which may lead to cancer. www.filipinostarmagazine.com

IN FOCUS JOBS By: Jake Torres

L-R: Chris Destor, Dean Gumban and Julius Ponce students at the Automotive Training Centre in Surrey BC working on fuel injections.

DREAMS COME TRUE AT AUTOMOTIVE TRAINING CENTRE

Meet Julius Ponce, 32, originally from the Philippines, arrived in British Columbia when he was 18. Studying to be an Automotive Services Technician, Julius proudly says now he can calculate engine performance and tackle engine compression. With a job to make a living, Julius said the good thing about the Automotive Training Centre in Surrey (there are other branches across Canada) is that there is an Admissions Officer who can suggest one of many school schedules that can afford one to study and still work part-time or full-time or deal with family obligations.

28

Furthermore, Julius said the income opportunity to be an auto service technician is good. Julius said, “Kaya ko pang ayusin ang sarili kong kotse ng hindi nagbabayad!” (I can even fix my own car for free.)

The good thing about Automotive Training Centre in Surrey is that there is an admissions officer who can suggest one of the many school schedules that can afford one to study and still work part-time or full-time or deal with family obligations.

W

e all dread car trouble. It means delays and interruptions in our life - big-time. But at the Automotive Training Centre in Surrey BC, hindi dread ang nararamdaman ng mga estudyante ng ATC kapag mayroong car trouble kundi excitement.

www.filipinostarmagazine.com

Breaking stereotypes on the gender of auto service technicians, Ms. Chris Destor, 27, migrated to Canada with her family from then Philippines when she was 11. She said the good thing about the school is there is no waiting list. “You do not have to have a background on cars or mechanics. You can start from zero knowledge. You can even start anytime of the year so long as it is the start of a module.” Chris started her training last August 2013 and expects to get her diploma May of this year. Now she can do alignment of wheels and replace brake pads. Chris added, “Hindi problema ang pagiging babae (As a woman it does not matter). Maganda ang experience, (The training is good) Mababait ang mga kaklase ko. (I like my classmates). Mahusay ang mga guro. (The instructors are great). And they really encouraged you to think and first find on your own how to do the repairs.”

Filipino Star Magazine. Vancouver Edition. May, 2014

Dean Gumban, 20, also moved to Canada in 1998 from Baguio City when he was 5 years old. Dean said the good thing about Automotive Training Centre is the ease of financial assistance through student loans. A school officer will help one go through the process of applying for a loan which when approved covers tuition, books, tools, and garments. Dean said “The only thing I bought on my own was my steel toed boots.” His recent project was an engine swap for a Nissan Maxima V6. Dean said, “When the engine turned on it was awesome, it felt good. My dream job is to work for a car company.” It is not unheard of auto service technicians earning $40,000 to $60,000 a year. Automotive Training Centre offers other courses such as in Collision Repair, Service Consultancy, Dispatch and Transportation Operations, to name a few.
