BEFORE THE LEGEND: KID KULAFU
M
anny Pacquiao braces for the biggest fight of his life on May 3 opposite American Floyd Mayweather but the Champions of the East and West wouldn’t even be meeting each other inside the ring if not for their respective uncles. Pacquiao acknowledges that if not for his uncle Sardo Dapidran, he would not be where he is now. Mayweather, on the other hand, has his uncle Roger as his trainer and coach whenever he steps on the ring, for his father was not there for him in his formative years. “Sardo was the one who really brought Manny to boxing. He idolized the greats like Muhammad Ali,” according to Buboy Villar, who plays the young Manny Pacquiao in the film “Kid Kulafu” when asked about Sardo (Cesar Montano). Just a few weeks before the much-
anticipated match, ABS-CBN, Star Cinema and Ten17 Productions present “Kid Kulafu,” a film directed by Paul Soriano that documents the early years of Pacquiao as a struggling amateur and pro boxer and how he tried to make ends meet as a teenager and of the man who got him into the sport. Pacquiao almost never happened. The scrawny kid from Kibawe, Bukidnon stood no chance against the obstacles life threw at him, until he started punching down banana trees, thanks to the goading of his uncle. And that’s where Rod Nazario stepped in. The late boxing patron was convinced the kid from the south has what it takes to be the next boxing superstar next to Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, Luisito “Lindol” Espinosa and Pancho Villa. www.filipinostarmagazine.com
He had no idea that the rail-thin Pacquiao would transcend to an eightdivision world titlist. ”There’s a lot that we don’t know about Manny Pacquiao, even if people thought they know him already. I even asked Direk Paul if what we’re doing really happened and he said yes. They will see it in ‘Kid Kulafu,’” Villar said. “Kid Kulafu” opens in cinemas on April 15. 3

“Kami naman po ni Liza, we will just give our best sa movie namin.
“As long as it is a healthy competition, okey lang.

“Hahahaha! Hindi naman po. It’s just that gusto ko lang i-share yung ginawa ko that day or that very moment.

You're My Boss" under Star Cinema directed by Antoinette Jadaone.
In fact, magkakaroon pa siya ng teleserye na first time niyang gagawin.

Dapat ba may ganun talaga?’ Kasi iniisip ko, hindi naman ako mga Zobel o Ayala to do pre-nup. Normal lang naman ako. Kung anong meron ako, pinaghirapan ko.” "Siguro ang program ko kasi sa pag-aasawa, once you get into a relationship and once you get into the commitment that you want to be together forever you will try your very best to make it work.” "So, 'yung sa akin pag nagpre-prenup ka, parang in the long run iniisip mo na baka in the future, baka maghiwalay lang kayo so kailangan sa akin ang pera ko. 'Yung security mo nasa pera, wala dun sa tao. So I'd rather put my faith in God and to the person I'm marrying and keep on praying that it will work forever.” "Never, never. Malalaman ninyo pagkatapos ng ‘I do’”. www.filipinostarmagazine.com

Maja Salvador to Gerald Anderson: “Alam niya work lang ‘yun at pumayag siya”
P
maitatago ‘yun. Alam niya work lang ‘yun at pumayag siya. Sabi nga niya sa akin, “Go!”
Like nung ginawa namin
“Wow, alindog talaga? Hahahaha! “In fairness, hindi po talaga kasi artista rin si Gerald so naiintindihan niya ang work ko at ang personal life ko. Syempre after work, back to reality, siya ang BF ko. “Wala namang selos-selos na ganyan. Masaya lang kami. Peaceful. Saka knows ni Gerald na siya ang loves ko more than anybody else. Naks! Hahahaha! “At the end of the day, siya pa rin ang BF ko kahit iba ‘yung nakikita ng mga tao o napapanood nilang kasama ko sa show. “Sa ASAP, dun, ayun, magkasama kami dun. ‘Yun ‘yung time na nagkakausap kami sa isang show.

We had so much fun. Ang saya-saya namin. Marami kami dun. Saka parang break na rin sa trabaho. Enjoy lang. After nun, back to work na naman ang beauty ko.”

10
Pero we had so much fun. Masarap katrabaho ang buong team.At nanalo pa kami ngayon kaya masayangmasaya kami".

"When I got back here, naging busy ako sa kaliwa't kanang stageplays. Alam nyo naman , i was a theater actor before I discovered sa pelikula. ( laughs). I also did "Haring Lear" , katatapos lang and we did a re-run dahil it was always full-packed. "I was so happy dahil at my age, ...I mean sa ganda kong ito pulos challenging roles at gusto ko ang inuoffer sa akin.

"Masarap mag-indie, eh. Kasi totoo siya. Realistic. Nararamdaman mo. I did commercial films before pero iba eto. Nowadays eto ang in thing ngayon sa pelikula. Indie. Independent films. Lahat pwedeng gawin on a limited budget.
Dito, yung maganda , maganda talaga at 'yung panget, panget! I mean, pwede kang mag-experiment eh, like si Juana, pwede suyang mangarap na isa siyang mayaman at magandang babae na ngangangarap na mayroong guwapong nagpapakamatay sa kanya. Kuha ninyo? Sa mainstream iba. Laging bitin. Sinabi lang. Kinuwento.
And before I knew it, puno na ang calendar ko! Hahahahaha! "O mean...itong talent ko as an actor... naming mga actor..its God-given, eh. Propesyon eto eh. We are called actors at trabaho namin ang gawin ang trabhong ibinibigay sa amin, sa TV man, pelikula o sa stage."

COCO AND TONI TEAM-UP FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE OFFICIAL SUMMER ROMANTIC MOVIE YOU’RE MY BOSS
T
HE long wait is finally over as Star Cinema brings together, for the very first time, Coco Martin and Toni Gonzaga in You’re My Boss – the biggest and most exciting romantic-comedy to hit cinemas this summer Coco and Toni are undoubtedly two of the biggest and most accomplished young stars of ABS-CBN today. Coco is one of the industry’s most respected and talented actors as evident in his impressive and diverse body of work, which includes a consistent string of toprating primetime TV series, a handful of high-profile multi-media endorsements, and several blockbuster films, the most recent of which is the top-grossing Feng Shui, which was one of the official entries of Star Cinema in the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival. Toni on the other hand, is rightfully dubbed as showbiz’ Ultimate Multi-Media 12
Star. Like Coco, Toni has enjoyed a string of non-stop blockbuster films since she was catapulted to the mainstream as a top singer and recording artist, concert performer, and television host. Toni is also one of the most trusted and top celebrity endorsers in the country today. In 2014, Toni created history as her Valentine movie Starting Over Again opposite Piolo Pascual earned almost Php500M in both domestic and international box-office. Together, the fresh and unexpected pairing of Coco and Toni will make create movie magic as the newest box-office tandem to beat in You’re My Boss, especially after the recent blockbuster successes of their respective films. You’re My Boss is written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone, who is known as the breakout romantic-comedy director of 2014 and is also widely acknowledged for her unforgettable “hugot lines.” It should www.filipinostarmagazine.com
also be noted that Jadaone also wrote and directed That Thing Called Tadhana, which now officially ranks as the highest grossing independent Filipino film of all time. You’re My Boss is centered on the amusing predicament of a top-level executive and a assistant who will switch roles in a desperate act to close a huge deal. Their plan may go well but could their hearts keep up with the act they are playing? You’re My Boss is a fun and light summer movie that will surely capture the hearts of millions of Filipinos. Fans can look forward to a summer they will never forget as You’re My Boss aims to show them if honesty, truth, and true love can truly triumph over lies and pretenses. You’re My Boss is showing in Canada starting April 10.

LBC launches add-on services in North America for balikbayan boxes
L
BC Express, the leading courier service provider in the Philippines, is introducing LBC VIP (Very Important Padala) in North America and Canada, a menu of addon services that allows customers to increase the benefits of their existing transactions, at a discounted rate. “At LBC we always look for additional ways to answer to the needs of our customers. We want to give our loyal customers the options to customize the service we provide them, ” said Hugo Bonilla, president of LBC North America. For its initial release, the courier service launched the Extra Pack, which allows customers to send a small box for those items that did not fit one regular box without having to fill up another balikbayan box. The Extra Pack also prevents the risk of overstuffed boxes, which increases the risk of the package’s security.
LBC Express offers an additional smaller box for $15 to customers sending three regular balikbayan boxes through its LBC VIP (Very Important Padala) Extra Pack add-on service. LBC will soon launch additional features to complete the LBC VIP menu of add-on services. LBC VIP is exclusive to LBC’s USA and Canada customers.
Customers can send a small box (24x18x9) for $25 when sending one regular box. Those sending two regular boxes need to pay only $20 for the small box, while those sending three regular boxes need to pay only $15 for the add-on service. LBC is offering this service to customers in the United States (excluding Hawaii, Alexandria, and Florida), and customers in British Columbia and Toronto in Canada. The service is advantageous for Filipinos based in the regions who regularly send packages to their relatives back home. As of 2012, there are 3,494,281 in the USA and 852,401 in Canada. Other packs such as Security Packs, which will include protective gear and added insurance, and Air Packs, which will focus on air cargo, will be available in LBC’s VIP add-on menu in the future.

‘WOWOWIN’, bagong game show ni Willie
M
Pumirma na ng kontrata si Willie with the GMA big bosses headed by Mr. Felipe Gozun.
naging bukambibig ni Willie during his shows noon pa man.

Interesting ‘pag nagkataon.

Si “Festival” director Livan Tajang as presenters at the gala awards night at Piolo being a performer. Magkasama ang dalawa na mag-present sa isang category at sa pagkakamali ni Piolo sa pagbigkas ng "Fazura" sa "Bazura" ay kitang-kitang nag-klik agad ang dalawa and immediately maraming nakapansin na they look good together and perfect together.
Sa unang dalawang araw ni Piolo sa Malaysia ay kasama nito ang Superstar ng Pilipinas na si Nora Aunor pero may mga hinahanap pa raw na ibang activities ang aktor with the Tourism Industry of Malaysia. Nakilala si Nur Fazura ng mga Filipino media sa Old Courthouse kung saan ginanap ang seminars and exhibition tungkol sa iba’t-ibang paksa tungkol sa world of films at acting workshops. Pagkatapos ng awards night, laging may after party kung saan inihahatid ang AIFFA delegates from the different ASEAN countries.

Mekaniko!” By Zeala Cortes
I
remember my first visit here in Vancouver, in April 2002. I was still single and I just got my permanent resident visa approved so I have to land in Canada and get my papers stamped. My residency application in Canada was really just to give me options later on. I was young, enjoying my career as a pharmaceutical representative in one of the biggest and prestigious multinational companies in the Philippines. I had some cash to pay for an immigration consultancy firm in Makati to handle all the immigration paper work. All I needed to do is to arrange for my flight and accommodations which was relatively easy as I have a “suki” travel agent in the Philippines who books for all of my flights. I also have the luxury of “kamag-anaks incorporated” for my accommodations here in British Columbia. It was my cousin who accommodated me at the last leg of my trip and he is a mechanic. My cousin has 5 children, and they are all in a private school in Vancouver. His wife, “my ate” is left at home to take care of the children and they live at a 2-storey 5 bedroom house at east Vancouver. Now, having myself and my husband and our child lived here for more than 7 years; every time someone ask me what's a good career to embark here in Canada, I would always quickly quip " be a mechanic!”. How to become a Mechanic in Canada Unang una, madalas natin marinig ang katagang "red seal" dito sa Canada. Red seal provides the assurance that workers are qualified according to common standards of knowledge and competency as defined by industry. Kabuhayan ng isang Mekaniko Para sa aking pinsan na dumating dito “as a permanent resident”, habang siya ay nagtratrabaho bilang “food attendant” (we usually refer to this as an example of a survival job); he applied for a student loan to enroll in the Automotive Service Technician Program.
The desire of extending a better life to our "kamag-anak" in the Philippines is a common sentiment shared by most Filipino immigrant in Canada and my cousin is no different. After establishing his family at the heart of East Vancouver and earning the trust and respect of the senior management at the "casa" where he is employed as a mechanic, an opportunity for a technician opened-up at his work place... In 2011, he began helping out in facilitating the processing of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) application of his older brother in the Philippines.

CARMINA VILLAROEL: past, ‘Bridges of Love’ & family
S
Super! We can be friends ni BB!”
intimate scenes kami ni Paulo Avelino na younger than me at alam natin iyan. But then, naisip ko. minsan lang ‘yung mga ganitong role kung dumating...alam mo’yun? So, challenging for me as an actress. Very supportive siya since alam niyang trabaho lang ‘yun. It Takes Gutz To Be A Guttierez”. “Like what I’ve said, nag-start ako as a child actress so siguro naman, pinanday na ako ng panahon kaya I can easily tackle serious roles...kami ni Aiko.
I’ve been doing drama roles. Parang family. Nakakatuwa sila, sina Maja, si Echo, mababait sila at masarap katrabaho. Young as they are marunong silang makisama at very professional Mga walang ere. And we’d like to be like that. Ginagawa pa rin namin yung dati naming ginagawa noon like we eat out, namamasyal kami kaya lang ngayon apat na kami. Kasama namin lagi yung kambal. “ “Masaya kami as family. Thanks God! I have a very handsome and mabait na husband at meron kaming very loving at mababait na mga anak.”

Her husband, Chad Kroeger, 40, checked in during breaks from his tour with Nickelback, and for a while, Lavigne’s mother moved in to help take care of her. “There were definitely times I couldn’t shower for a full week because I could barely stand. The posts went viral in December, but she didn’t mind. “They were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly that I wasn’t feeling good. The get-well messages and videos they sent touched me so deeply,” she recalls. “I lay in bed watching them and cried so much because I felt loved.” Today, Lavigne says she is feeling “80 percent better. “This was a wake-up call,” the “Sk8er Boi” singer says. “I really just want to enjoy life from here on out.” SOURCE:

Naging super excited si Xian dahil almost one year daw silang hindi nagkasama ni Kim sa out of the country show. So, ‘yun… we’re very happy na nandito kami,” sabi ni Xian.
"My next movie for Star Cinema is with Vilma Santos and Angel Locsin.

Filipino temporary workers in Canada are to go home soon—DON’T FRET By Zsa-zsa C. Zorilla
F
ilipinos working temporarily in Canada are said to go home back in the country starting this April under the Canadian government’s fouryear rule. As per Government of Canada’s official website, www.cic.gc.ca, “Most people can come to Canada to work for a MAXIMUM of 4 years. If you are currently working or plan to work in Canada, you should keep track of the total time you have worked and plan to work in Canada. After you have worked temporarily for four years in Canada, you will not be eligible to work in Canada again UNTIL another PERIOD OF 4 YEARS HAS PASSED.” Sa isang pahayag, Citizenship Minister Chris Alexander said, “Let there be no mistake: We will not tolerate people going ‘underground,’ flouting our immigration laws is not an option, and we will deal with offenders swiftly and fairly.” “Canadians are welcoming and generous but we need to ensure that we’re putting Canadians first and standing up against potential abuse of our immigration system,” dagdag pa ni Minister Alexander.
Donalds, Ihop, at Wendy’s. Written below are excerpts from the official web posting of the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment, posted on May, 7, 2015. (dole.gov.ph) “Secretary of Labor and Employment Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz , May 6, 2015, bared the announcement recently made by Canadian Federal Employment Minister Jason Kenney on the immediate moratorium on the fastfood industry’s access to Canada’s Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP). Baldoz cited a report by Labor Attaché to Toronto Leonida Romulo, and said that the move will affect the hiring of temporary Filipino workers for Canada’s fast-food sector. Based on the records of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Toronto, 200 out of 660 employment contracts processed from May to December 2013 were for temporary overseas Filipino workers in the fastfood industry. Moreover, during the first quarter of this year, POLO-Toronto processed 544 employment contracts, of which 146 are for temporary OFWs working in the fastfood industry.” Ayon naman sa recently published article sa Manila Bulletin, April 15, 2015, titled “No Mass Deportation of OFW, says DOLE” written by Leslie Ann Aquino, “Ito ang listahan ng iba pang exemptions: www.filipinostarmagazine.com
1. Mga nakatanggap ng PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) at CSQ (Certificate de Selection du Quebec) certificates for managerial and professional occupations. 2. Mga live-in caregivers na nakatanggap na ng approval in principle. 3. Here’s what you need to know (based from www.cic.gc.ca): Before you are eligible to work again in Canada, you will need to spend four consecutive years either: 1. Outside of Canada; or 2. in Canada but NOT working (i.e. with legal status as a visitor or student). At that point, you can apply for a work permit and you can start another four years of working in Canada. So huwag malungkot at mawalan ng pag-asa dahil mayroong ganitong options ang Canadian government. Alamin lamang at sumunod.

Lutong Nanay: Fat loss nonfried chicken
F
ried chicken has been a favorite for both young and old and had always been present in any occasion, especially on birthdays… But because frying oil and any other fatty substance used to fry and get that “crispy and malutong sa kagat na balat,” others are starting to have second thoughts as to prepare this birthday favorite/staple or not. But, as I am known for healthy food choices and options… I am bringing you this fat loss non-fried chicken.. What you’ll need: Himalayan salt Chopped garlic 1 tsp. patis (fish sauce) Ground pepper Cornstarch Panko bread crumbs 2 tbsp. egg whites Cut desired chicken parts What you need to do: Marinate your cut chicken parts with Himalayan salt, garlic, 1 tsp. patis, pepper, cornstarch, panko bread crumbs and 2 tbsp.egg whites for about 30 minutes. Once you’re done marinating your chicken, then you can bake it at your pre-heat oven for 50 minutes at 350 degrees. Before serving, spray with oil then broil (full, 500 degrees) middle deck for 8 minutes each side. The key is keeping the chicken off the tray with a wire rack while baking and broiling. This will keep the chicken moist and have that crispy skin. Serve with mashed potatoes and homemade gravy. Nanay notes: Gram per gram, fat/oil is twice the amount of calories of carbs and protein. You get more nutritional benefit from protein as it builds muscles and keep your blood sugar leveled which in turn gives a sensory feedback of being full or satisfied. Who says you cannot enjoy your favorite fried chicken, just as long as it is cooked this way, then you can enjoy it without the feeling of guilt.

HAPPENINGS ARO T
he Caring Hearts Dentistry Society (CHDS) have just concluded another successful dental mission to the Philippines on February 9 to 18, 2015 in cooperation with Rotary World Help. After performing about 3,200 procedures for eight (8) days, the people of Panglao, Bohol have received approximately C$ 50,000 or 1.7 million pesos worth of dental services through this project.

Moreover, 500 children benefited from the Society’s feeding program held in a fishing village of Panglao, Bohol. Packed meals were distributed and served. Sample menu was hotdog sandwiches, rice, fried chicken, orange juice and ice cream. CHDS performed preventive and operative dentistry, exodontias (tooth extractions) and pediatric dentistry services. Preventive programs, including administering fluoride, are provided to most of the local elementary and high school students, where each one was given a toothbrush and floss. Proper brushing techniques and oral hygiene instructions were likewise demonstrated by dentists and hygienists. Dental caries (decay) and periodontal (gum) disease are the two most widespread diseases worldwide. Dental infections are often painful and occasionally may be life-threatening. While many projects focus only on the provision of extraction services to combat these diseases, Caring Hearts Dentistry Society provides restorative and preventive dental services as well. Several portable periodontal scalers and portable dental delivery units along with suction machines and more supplies were purchased by CHDS purposely to serve more people during dental missions. The just concluded 2015 Dental mission to the Philippines incorporates a variety of portable dental units, compressors, generators, dental chairs, and other equipment to make the services a reality, The big stage of Panglao Cultural 28

April HOROSCOPE ASTROTWINS, ASTROLOGY FORECAST Wouldn’t it be great if everything could be tied up in a neat little package and be delivered to your doorstep on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? Yes, it most definitely would, but that’s not the way life works out most of the time. Figure out a Plan B for if - and, let’s face it, when - your first idea goes south.
You’d do almost anything for a laugh on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, including playing practical jokes on the people you work with, pretending you don’t know your friends when you see them in public, or having a staring contest with a younger relative. Maybe you haven’t reached class clown status, but you’re working on it!
You might lose your head if it wasn’t firmly attached on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Other people’s attempts to drive you mad are pretty successful if you let them mess with your psyche. Take a page out of Freud’s book and use free association to get to the heart of what’s really bothering you.
There’s beauty literally all around you on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, you’ve probably just been too busy to notice it. Open your window to hear the birds singing. Maybe even get a bird book to identify the ones you see. Or, go to the beach and frolic with the waves. Skip down the street while school children point and giggle. Getting back to basic joys and innocent pleasures are what these days are all about.
Celebrate every triumph on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Life really is what you make it, and you’re doing some pretty amazing things. Once you get all of your ducks in a row - after all, organization is very important to you - there’s no end to what you can accomplish.
You’ve got your eye on the prize on the 4th and 5th, which makes it ever-so-disappointing when you don’t get it! It’s just out of reach, but the mopey kind of ho-hum energy on these days has you treading water without really getting anywhere.
Get out and kick some butt on the 4th and 5th! You’re the go-to girl or guy when it comes to getting things started. You may not have the stickto-it-iveness to cross the finish line right now, but you’re a great instigator. Who knows, the initiatives you take on these days could actually change the world!
Looks matter most on the 4th and 5th which isn’t to say you don’t value substance, you just really appreciate the beauty in the world. You take extra time on your hair, your makeup, your outfit, etc., but hey, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to present your best self!
You don’t have any hidden motivation on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but can you say that for everyone you encounter? Um, probably not. No. Keep your guard up except when you’re around the people you trust the most. You feel like hunkering down in one little corner of the library with your nose in your favorite book on the 4th and 5th, but guess what? You might miss out on meeting someone really cool if you do that on these days. Meet a stranger’s gaze and see what happens.
You find inspiration everywhere on the 6th, 7th, and 8th. An unusual pattern on a butterfly, the smell of fresh-popped popcorn, children’s laughter in the distance, the feel of soft cotton sheets... what will capture your attention next? And how will you express your feelings about it to the rest of the world? Start a blog, publish a zine, or simply talk to a stranger!
Performing random acts of kindness fulfill your days on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and the more you can do for others, the better you feel about yourself. You’re the picture of poise on the 6th, 7th, and 8th, and people will really have to do something wacky to phase you. You’re so calm in the face of crisis that you might want to consider becoming an EMT, 911 operator, hostage negotiator, etc.
You don’t waste time being nostalgic on the 4th and 5th, because ‘out with the old and in with the new’ is your favorite new motto. It’s nice to keep photos, though, just in case your memory needs a jolt. The future is also kind of confusing on the 9th, 10th, and 11th, and you find yourself in the middle of not wanting to move forward but being afraid of staying stagnant. What are you really afraid of? Once you know the answer to that, then you can get down to business.
