F
ilipino-born American rapper and member of international group “Black Eyed Peas”, Apl de Ap gives back and shares his blessing through a charity, Apl Foundation. Apl told Pep.PH, “"I was one of those kids that was helped out, was sponsored and brought to the U.S., and became a Black Eyed Peas." “You know, I think beyond the success and accolades that I’ve received, this is what brings me joy.” “So I’m just following the footsteps of my adoptive father, Joe Ben Hudgens, and his foundation that helped me get sponsored.” “You know, I’m one of those kids that used to run around with my tsinelas and play basketball. “You know, I wanna give those kids an opportunity to become somebody. “And I think, me being adopted and having the success in life, I think I’m supposed to give back and follow dad’s footsteps," said Apl de Ap in a press launch last June 25 as quoted on PEP.ph He continued, “It’s so joyful to see that now we have 14 scholars in Angeles.” “And these kids they’re like valedictorian, summa cum laude, you know what I mean?” “It’s very fulfilling. Jennylyn Mercado FHM PH’s sexiest woman, certified mom
J
ennylyn Mercado, one of Philippine Entertainment’s “face, you wouldn’t want to miss.” She is an actress, a singer, a songwriter and a businesswoman, a female “jack of all trades,” and mind you, she is a mother--a single mother at that! We have first seen her in GMA 7’s reality talent competition; Start struck...but, is it really where we first saw her? Think again. At 4 years old, Jennylyn has already been published, in a newspaper, but not as an actress, still too young to be a singer, but a little girl who has been abused by her stepfather. Yes, you read that right. She was first seen in 1994 with cigarette butt’s burns all over her skin, eyes blackened with bruises and crying while in the arms of her aunt, Lydia Mercado, who later on legally adopted her. Sad start, but who would have thought that Jennylyn would step up and move on from the painful childhood years... Yes, she stepped up hard--BIG TIME!!! 6

Jennylyn Mercado is GMA 7’s “Starstruck” first Female Ultimate Survivor, landing her in several TV shows, movies and commercials at age 16. In her personal blog, she shared, “I entered show business to have experience, exposure and to help my family,” and considered Starstruck as the “turning point” in her career. And from Starstruck... everything simply and effortlessly jet sky-ed in Jennylyn’s showbiz career. Mother to Alex Jazz Jennlyn had a “love child” at 21 with former boyfriend and actor, Patrick Garcia. Things didn’t work well with the two because rumor has it that Patrick’s family was not in favor of Jen, but erase that, all is well with them now, with Patrick already married and Jen, happily single, or so we thought. Jennylyn’s Instagram will show you how much she loves his son and how proud she is of her kid.
Pictures, they say, “Speaks a thousand words.” Advocacy, good will Having experienced abuse at a very young age, Jennylyn Mercado now is a proud political activist. She’s shared in a 2013 Inquirer.net article, “The scars of abuse haunted me all the way through high school. But, I was a fighter even then. I drew strength from the support of my Mommy Lydia, the sister of my biological mom, who fought for me!” “Some victims think they’re too weak to fight back, but you’ve got to stay strong—you can’t give up! Always look forward to more positive things. Kung kinaya ko, there’s no reason why hindi kakayanin ng iba!” She works with Philippine Women’s Organization, Gabriela and she also became an official spokesperson of Bata Foundation, a non-government organization. FHM Philippine 2015’s Sexiest Woman She’s long belonged to the top ten

list, but finally, this 2015, she was named FHM’s Sexiest Woman. And who would dare disagree? As Jennylyn really does work hard to keep her body slim and fit. She is a tri-athlete, does swimming, biking and running. She even do pilates, Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai, okay, I seriously felt exhausted enumerating the physical activitiesssssss she does. But hail “The Queen,” she deserved it and to be applauded. Yes, Jennylyn Mercado is “THE” FHM Philippines’ sexiest woman and certified mom.

Charice plans to marry girlfriend in the future Posted on mb.com.ph
M
ANILA – With the legalization of same sex marriage in the United States is still a hot topic, Charice revealed that she also has plans of marrying her partner, Alyssa Quijano, in the future. Speaking with ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau after her show in Paris, Charice said she wants to settle down with Quijano but that is not yet their main priority for now.
Before they got into a relationship, Charice and Quijano were former rivals in various singing competitions. The two had already faced off several times in amateur singing contests when they became competitors in the ABS-CBN talent search “Little Big Star” in 2005.
communication. Despite mixed reactions from the public when they announced their relationship, the two decided to stay together.
They met again until seven years later when Quijano joined the singing contest “The X Factor Philippines,” with Charice as one of the celebrity judges.
At one point, even Charice’s mother Raquel strongly disapproved of Quijano for her daughter. It was only in late 2014 when Charice renewed ties with her family, ending her year-long rift with her mom.
It was during the Kapamilya program when they had a chance to resume
Charice, her mom and Quijano are now in good terms.
“Kung plans lang, may plans talaga but dates or anything, wala pa. Siyempre nandoon pa kami sa focused muna kami sa kung anong ginagawa namin ngayon. Trabaho muna, ipon muna,” she said. Charice said she wants to give Quijano the wedding she deserves. “Kapag talagang alam na namin na super ready na kami—siyempre as her partner, I’d like to give her her deam wedding if ever. If ever that happens, gusto ko talaga ‘yung ready talaga lahat,” she said. Charice and Quijano became a couple in October 2012. However, it was only in June 2013 when the singer introduced Quijano as her girlfriend.

Blue eagle’s Ravena and lady spiker’s Reyes call it quits By: Andrew Bermudez as posted on NewsCentral.ph
T
he lovebirds from rival schools Blue Eagle Kiefer Ravena and De La Salle Lady Spiker Mika Reyes have parted ways, according to a report by pep.ph on July 3.
In early June, news swirled that the couple has “cooled off” but Ravena was quick to dismiss the breakup rumor, as he was busy preparing for the SEA Games in Singapore held in mid-June.
“Hindi na kami,” Ravena was quoted to have told reporters during a press conference for a new television show.
Ravena was part of the Gilas Cadets who won gold in this year’s SEA Games.
He said he was in no position to talk about the issue. “It’ll be better if it comes from her,” added Ravena, dubbed “the phenom” for being the team captain of the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
The 21-year old Ravena is the current UAAP basketball’s most valuable player (MVP) while Reyes’ Spikers have won three straight UAAP titles from 2011-2013, beaten by Ateneo in last year’s meet.

Bieber’s graphic video shun, goes to a religious meet
T
he “Baby” singing superstar Justin Bieber’s graphic music video “Where Are You Know?” flocked criticisms following the use of “inappropriate” symbols or figures. “Lol i pause and the art was redhead then there’s a dick next to him. Lol haters gonna hate,” wrote Syyhaabudin Radie on the release of the video on Youtube on June 29. The clip showed Bieber covered by hundreds of fans’ doodles and symbols, including what few believed was a phallic symbol piercing through his torso. Said inappropriate symbols can be seen at 2:09 on the 4-minute 11 seconds music video, it showed a drawing of a penis pierced through Bieber’s back. As per the news reports, Bieber and his collaborators Jack Ü asked fans to sketch video stills at the Seventh Letter Gallery in Los Angeles, which would later be incorporated in the music video. “Where Are Ü Now” peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts earlier this year. On You Tube, the video has already been viewed more than 4 million times.
“We are being overwhelmed, in a good way, by the success of “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber, so with the video we wanted to just take it back to the beginning of the record & essentially create an ode to our fans. Doing what we do, it’s entirely all about the fans,” wrote Jack Ü who is composed of producers Skrillex and Diplo. The pair also said the song was recorded by Bieber during a “rough time in his life”. “We all do this for you, respect that you put us here and it’s Ü that made the video” added Jack Ü. While most fans praised the artsy video, a few keen ones observed some symbols or figures were inappropriate. “I don’t think thats a normal video i mean im pretty sure that it was made for a purpose and right now im just waiting for the smart someone to explain it. Like for example why israel star were everywhere and why so many satanic drawings (as a satan controling him) and that “stop worshiping me” at the end and many many other things and meanings its way too deep video and it should be explained,” wrote
HOllywood buzz 12
www.filipinostarmagazine.com
Elizabeth Smith on You Tube. Bieber and his collaborators have yet to comment on the issue. Meantime, the 21-year-old Canadian singer was seen with rumored girlfriend Haley Baldwin attending a five-day Hillsong conference in Sydney on June 30. “People come from across the world to Sydney each year to attend Hillsong Conference. Justin is here — like tens of thousands of others — as a delegate who is seeking to build stronger foundations into his life,” Hillsong said in a statement. The event is expected to gather at least 20,000 Pentecostal worshipers. Bieber’s move is seen as a “now-or-never time to try to build better foundations into his life” said Hillsong senior pastor Brian Houston. The young singer has been involved in several misdemeanors in the past including reckless driving and vandalism.

Jennifer Garner & Ben Affleck divorcing
H
ollywood is in “grief” upon learning that actor Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner are divorcing.
Ben and Jennifer’s “Splitsville” was announced by People.com on June 30. “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple said in a statement. The announcement came exactly 10 years after the celebrity couple got married. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to coparenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding,” the statement added. Paris Hilton knew of the ‘plane crash’ prank
S
he cried. Shouted. Panicked and asked “what’s going on?”
But it turns out that the hotel heiress, who was made to believe that she is going to die from a “near plane crash” knew that she was being pranked. “We’ve learned that she was totally in on the stunt,” according to TMZ, a showbiz-oriented on July 2. TMZ revealed that they have a document showing Hilton was not
the first choice for the role, and that it was initially offered to other celebrities, with a huge paycheck. TMZ also added that Dubai authorities had been notified about the “supposed plane crash” in advance. “Dubai official authorities are monitoring this show and providing us with security. If you want to make sure, you can contact the office of crown prince of Dubai, his majesty Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He himself will be supervising the progress of the project,” the statement said. Hilton being pranked that she was going to die from a plane crash went viral first on social media first week of July. Carrasco answered, "I always wondered about that. My father is a painter but when I think about it I don't think it came from a talent that transmitted from parents to child. Back then when I started drawing, my drawing wasn't particularly good, it was simply average. So I do not believe in inherited talent transfer. I loved art and especially drawing. I draw a lot, for hours and hours so I get better from persisting. Maybe I inherited my interest for art from my father after all." Christine, 27, on the other hand is a Pharmacy Technician but has started modeling in 2014. Asked if modeling really was a dream, Christine said that it was not "initially" a dream as she is only 5'3", contrary to the "model stereotypes", i.e. tall, slim, perfect female, no flaws. But she was not discouraged and thanks to her boyfriend and a friend for pushing and encouraging her.
Frederic & Christine:
Of passion and love for art By Zsa-zsa Zorilla
O
ne is French and the other is Filipino, both in Canada and had collaborated for an interestingcum-artistic photoshoot that's pleasing to the eyes, melancholic and dramatic one would think hard to decipher what it means... The artist is Frederic carrasco and his canvass, Filipino-model 14
Christine Mu単oz's entire delicate back. Frederic, 39, has always been into art, as stated in his Facebook default photo caption, "As long as I Can remember I always drew." I had to probe him and ask if that, "his passion for drawing", is something he had inherited from his parents. www.filipinostarmagazine.com
Christine shared, "modeling was a goal, not a dream; something to strive for but not get my hopes up in case I did not find success or acceptance in the industry. But I guess the parts of it that I would attribute to be part of a dream are when people contact you to work together on opportunities that you thought were beyond your capabilities. I went into modeling knowing I had to humble myself and not to expect too much; I am a realist with modeling because of my setbacks from the standard requirements of a model. So I guess you can say any opportunity that I did not ever imagine I would have (like being interviewed for this magazine!) is a dream!! If I were 5'7" or 5'8" then sure modeling would definitely be a dream!!" Not only was Christine on the petite

side, she too has hypo-pigmentation, a skin problem where it loses its color, but as mentioned she was not discouraged, and that's evident. Christine added, "I have actually wanted to do modeling since I was in high school, but did not have the confidence. I remember watching shows such as America's Next Top Model and thinking "These girls have their own struggles, flaws, and difficulties... but if they can do it then so can I!" After a while I realized that some girls are in-demand because of their uniqueness. Sometimes those unique qualities are seen as flaws or weird in the world we live in... But in the modeling industry, unique qualities are what sets you apart from other models and makes you stand out." So instead of hiding in the dark and fretting about her flaws, Christine did the opposite and used those "flaws" as her strength, her uniqueness. Owe it to a good-positive mindset and attitude. Christine, basically, is THE "ATTAGIRL!" Frederic is into minimalism. Shares that he's learned to be a minimalist when he left France in 2001 and travelled for 10 years. He owes his focus to the philosophy of minimalism. Adding, "By suppressing what is not essential, I'm able to do more what I love. I try to work with the fewest materials or products possible without sacrificing quality." Without sacrificing quality---ding! Ding! Ding! Music to the consumers' ears and you better believe it. On the designs of the temporary tattoos, Frederic said that the designs "depends, sometimes I create original,

sometimes I do what the client wants me to do, and sometimes I reproduce and adapt art from other artists. In that sense I am flexible. For my clients, I do not force them to get what I want; I do what they ask for." INK, his organization and/or a collective of artists was established in Vancouver in 2012 and it develops quality tattoo products and services. Frederic added, "At INK you will find make-up artists, photographers, hair stylists, and models. We all bring our skills to achieve a result. We want to make a difference by bringing temporary tattoos to the next level and for that reason we do not focus on profit, instead we try our best to deliver quality work." Reiterating--"We want to make a difference by bringing temporary tattoos to the next level and for that reason we do not focus on profit, instead we try our best to deliver quality work." Carrasco on two points! Curious on how they met? Okay, I am www.filipinostarmagazine.com
finally dishing it out. Frederic had told me that he discovered Christine "randomly" through a Face book group about models and photographers. "After seeing her in some photoshoots, I was so impressed by her unique and natural beauty that I got in touch with her. I shared some pinterest boards with reference pictures with her so she could have an idea about the theme. For that photoshoot I wanted to focus on simplicity, so I did those trees on her back, extremely basic, as I wanted to do something delicate and minimal to compliment her natural beauty." With the help of Sebastien, the photographer, and Elody, the make-up artist, their vision, imagination and peg were beautifully executed and made. Frederic concluded, "Christine is easy to work with and [is] very professional."

Richard Gutierrez on relationship with Sarah Lahbati: “Wala naman siyang dapat pagselosan, e. Behave ako.” By Zsa-zsa Zorilla as Posted on NewsCentral.PH
N
“I was very happy for my brother, I was really enjoying the moment with him. “Kitang-kita ko na happy silang dalawa ni Alexa nung araw na yun.
Richard, 31, tungkol sa usapin kung kailan nila balak magpakasal ni Sarah, 21.
“We were all very supportive and happy for them.
Aniya, “Malalaman niyo na lang. It’s too early now to spill the beans.
“Siyempre, nung nandun ako sa kasal at reception, siyempre nagte-take down na ako ng notes.
“But we’re taking down notes and we’re planning it. Malalaman niyo soon.”
“But they’re not naman, like, really pressuring me or really pushing me to [get married].

Matteo denies breakup rumors Posted on mb.com.ph
A
ctor Matteo Guidicelli has addressed persistent rumors that his relationship with girlfriend Sarah Geronimo is on shaky ground. In an interview aired on “Bandila,” Matteo stressed that everything is okay between him and Sarah. “There are little challenges here and there but everything’s fine, everything’s smooth,” he said. Busy with their respective commitments, he nevertheless said they spend time together whenever they get the chance. “Work comes first all the time. When the schedule is full, just focus on work, and when there’s free time, there (we meet),” he related. Sarah is busy promoting her movie “The Breakup Playlist,” aside from sitting as judge on “The Voice Kids.” The rumors gained traction following Sarah’s recent appearance on “Gandang Gabi Vice (GGV),” where she was asked about their relationship. She said, “Hindi naman maiiwasan ’yung mga trials. Pero okay kami.” Matteo was also a guest on the show that evening, performing One Direction’s “Steal My Girl.” Asked by host Vice Ganda if there are men who want to steal his girl, Matteo answered: “Yes, but no one can.” When told about Matteo’s statement, Sarah said, “Siyempre, ’di ako magpapasteal.”
asking, “Si Piolo (Pascual) ba ang dahilan?” Sarah said, “Maari.” Piolo is Sarah’s leading man in “The Breakup Playlist.” She even joked that if she would have a fling she would want it to be with Piolo.
Vice Ganda then asked Sarah if she’s happy with her relationship with Matteo. It took some time before the singeractress was able to blurt, “Ah oo.”
Wags went to tattle how Matteo and Sarah supposedly avoided each other backstage.
Vice Ganda probed the matter further,
The actor belied this Monday in an www.filipinostarmagazine.com
interview on “Aquino & Abunda Tonight.” He maintained he didn’t purposely avoid Sarah; he said he was just rushing to another scheduled appearance. Whatever it is people think the couple is going through, the two have always maintained a unified front. Matteo went on to express happiness with the way things are going in Sarah’s career. “I’m very proud of her and I tell her that every day. I think she’s gonna get there kasi she’s becoming more independent,” he said. 23

Layuan mo sila.

Lutong Nanay: Light Mushroom Soup By: Mrs. Z.
low heat. Take the lid off and put in the pepper leaves. Let it simmer uncovered for another 2 minutes and tada, your light mushroom soup is done in under 10 minutes! You may serve it with Himalayan salt on the side.
Nanay Notes This is the perfect soup for summer. It’s light but filling. Use the Himalayan salt as table salt to maximize the benefits of the 80 minerals it contains. Heat while cooking the dish, degrades some of the really useful minerals it contains. Mrs. Z is the author of “The Kitchen Alchemist : Transform your body.
