The unexpected pair-up: Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza

N

o one expected it, as everyone would think a short skit in an afternoon show is too old nowadays, but the change of tides stroked Eat Bulaga when they decided to put Maine Mendoza (known as the Dubsmash Queen of the Philippines) as “Yaya Dub” in the segment “All for Juan, Juan for All Problem’s Solving”. Alongside with Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola), Jose and Paolo Ballesteros, Maine proved that her comedic skills are also for television. Even more, according to spot.ph, their unexpected team made its debut last July 16, the staff found out that Mendoza has a crush on the new “Dabarkads” host, Alden Richards, so they asked to make a cameo as a surprise. After that giddy scene, sparks flew and “Aldub”, the combination of Alden Richards and Yaya Dub came to its existence. Now trending on social media sites, Kapuso actor Alden Richards was taken aback by the popularity of the Aldub Love Team. Richards admitted in an interview on Startalk (GMA’s Showbiz News) they didn’t expect that their love team will

earn this much attention. He is very happy on how their love team is now trending worldwide on Twitter. Moreover, Alden was happy for being part of Eat Bulaga and humbly admitted that he doesn’t want his fame to get into his head. Since Alden Richards was just added to the EB Dabarkads two months ago. “Sobrang happy po! Kasi ilang artista po ba ang nabibigyan ng chance na mag-host sa isang malaking noontime show na Eat Bulaga,” he said in an

interview on Startalk. The unexpected team up of AlDub is one of the reasons why Eat Bulaga is number one in noon time show. Even the director of the show, Mike Tuviera confessed that their love team was an accident. For now, let’s just wait for the “tamang panahon” for Alden Richards and Yaya Dub to meet personally.

Convenience at the forefront of LBC’s service

F

ilipinos fly abroad to seek greener pastures and support their families back home. But sometimes, in their pursuit to work hard to provide better opportunities for the loved ones they leave behind, they miss the operating hours of their trusted courier services. LBC Express, Inc., the Philippines’ trusted payments, remittance, courier products, mail, parcels, and cargo logistics service is giving Filipinos in North America bigger reasons to smile as they’re extending their pickup hours in Canada, California, New York, New Jersey, and Chicago. It is also important to not overstuff the box and sneak in undeclared items, as these will not be insured. LBC also advises customers not to bring prohibited items like illegal and prohibited drugs, firearms, jewelry, pornographic materials, fake and counterfeit goods, perishable goods, toxic and flammable items, and other items that may be held by the Bureau of Customs. “LBC is the overseas Filipino’s partner in reaching out to their loved ones back home,” shares Bonilla. “As the trusted name in courier, we want to www.filipinostarmagazine.com

Binibining Pilipinas adds 2 more int’l pageants Isabel Doria as Posted on NewsCentral.PH

T

he Binibining Pilipinas has added two more international pageants on its roster this year, it was announced on Friday, August 28. Stella Marquez Araneta, chairperson of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., said that winners of the annual contest will participate in Miss Grand International and Miss Globe pageants. Winners of Binibining Pilipinas take part in prestigious international contests namely Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Supranational and Miss Intercontinental. With the addition of the new international contests, then the Bb. Pilipiinas pageant will now have six title holders and two runnersup, making it the biggest local beauty contest in history in terms of number of titles. 2014 Bb. Pilipipinas Tourism Parul Shah will compete in the 2015 Miss Grand International contest in Thailand on Oct 26 while 2015 Bb. Plipinas Tourism Ann Colis will join Miss Globe in Canada on Oct. 11. This will be the first time that the Binibining Pilipinas will participate in Miss Grand International and Miss Globe pageants, said Mrs Araneta, during press-send off held at Gloria Maris, Gateway Mall, Araneta Center in Cubao,

Quezon City. Shah, 26, who was born in Dubai, said that her contract with BPCI will expire in September and was ready to give up hopes on an international contest until she received a call from Mrs. Araneta. “I was really surprised! I can’t believe it’s happening.” Araneta has promised Shah to find her an international contest. But it took awhile before the BPCI found her a pageant because all the frachises for tourism pageants have been acquired. Colis, 22, of Pampanga, got emotional when she learned she will compete in the 42nd Miss Globe pageant. “This is my first time to travel abroad. And I’m so thankful for Mrs. Araneta for this wonderful opportunity,” Colis said. Shah is scheduled to fly to Bangkok, Thailand on Oct. 4 while Colis will fly to Toronto, Canada on Sept. 20. Kris Tiffany Janson, who won second-runner up in the 2014 Miss Intercontinental contest, will fly to Egypt for activities related to the pageant. Among the well-wishers were Binibinis Yvette Marie Santiago, Mary Anne Guidotti, Janicel Lubina, Hannah Ruth Sison, Kimverlyn Suiza, Rogelie Catacutan, and Christi Lynn McGarry. www.filipinostarmagazine.com

David Beckham’s Latest Tattoo for Brooklyn Beckham Is the Ultimate Symbol of Love—Take a Look! But during last weekend of August, the former Los Angeles Galaxy soccer star decided to get a fresh new symbolic ink job. Get ready Brooklyn Beckham to be totally impressed. “I’ve always called Brooklyn (Buster) since the day he was born,” David wrote on Instagram. “Love you Bust @BrooklynBeckham.”

Y

ou know your dad loves you when he’s ready to get inked in your honor.

David Beckham hasn’t been shy of visiting tattoo shops to get some special designs. He also isn’t exactly shy about showing them off. Come on now, have you see his H&M underwear ads?

So what is the finished product? If your eyes glance over to the right side of David’s neck, you’ll spot the word “Buster” with a small but significant heart. Pretty thoughtful, right? The new work of art comes less than two weeks after David melted our hearts with a candid father-son moment with Brooklyn. After enjoying a hike in the Southern California hills, the

soccer stud gushed about his growing 16-year-old. “Something tells me I love this not so little man so much,” he wrote. “Growing up fast into a perfect gentleman and hiking buddy…I love you big boy.” Brooklyn certainly isn’t the only young Beckham getting plenty of love from his parents. Last month, David went under the needle to tattoo “Pretty Lady” in honor of daughter Harper. And yes, Romeo, 12, and Cruz, 10, all share real estate on David’s fit body. To all the fathers out there without tattoos, we know you love us. But seriously, you ready to get inked?

May masaya at malungkot.

Very stressful ang buhay mo ngayon.

All-Filipino sisters impress X Factor UK judges, viewers question group’s legitimacy By Zsa-zsa Zorilla as Posted on NewsCentral.PH

T

he “4th Power,” an all-Filipino female group, impressed judges led by Simon Cowell when they auditioned for the “X Factor UK” on Saturday, August 29 (August 30, Manila time) at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The all-girl group composed of four sisters, namely Almira, Celena, Mylene and Irene from Isabela, belted out “Bang! Bang!” originally done by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, to the delight of the audience who packed the stadium. “We are the 4th Power from the Philippines,” the group introduced. “We flew all the way from the Philippines … just to be here.” Cowell asked them how they felt to be on the stage of the show. They said: “We’re like floating in the air. Like a dream come true.” In their introduction video prior to their performance, the girls said: “We started singing as group since 2001 and we’ve been competing in different places.” “We love X Factor UK and our ultimate dream is to perform in front of Simon Cowell,” they added. After their performance, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini said: “You just absolutely take Wembley’s roof off!” “It’s like you are all monsters, but my new monsters,” singer Rita Ora commented. “The passion, the voices and the attitude and I was like, I want to be their sisters,

so it’s a yes!!” Ora added. “Wembley what just happened? This is going to blow up all over the world,” said Nick Grimshaw.

“You are a bad ass and it’s a yes for me.” said Versini. “4th Power, you have the biggest 4 YES’ that we’ve ever given,” ended Cowell.

“We get people say that it’s the British X-Factor and shouldn’t it just be opened for British people and we always said that we welcome people all over the world and you are incredibly welcome,” said Cowell. “This is probably the best I’ve ever seen.”

But the 4th Power did not escape people’s criticisms. Viewers said that the musical group are already professional singers.

“This audition has just changed your lives,” added Versini.

“We want to reach our dreams of having that prize and helping our family to have our own house and not be transferring about in different parts of Manila,” the sisters said.

At the end, the judges deliberated and said: Grimshaw said, “You’re my favorite girl band so it’s a yes for me.” Ora replied: “You are sick and it’s a yes for me.”

In interview with Daily Mail UK, the pop quartet answered: “We’re chasing our dreams wherever it’s possible.”

According to an X Factor spokesperson as quoted in Daily Mail UK: “There are no rules preventing anyone who has appeared on other shows from applying for The X Factor.”

Lutong Nanay: Healthy Kikiam By: Mrs. Z. Turn to the other side after 25 mins. If you don’t like it baked, you may opt to steam it for 30 minutes. SAUCE: In a sauce pan, put 3 tbsp. of vinegar. Add 1/3 cup of plum sauce. Add red chillies if desired and simmer in low heat for 4 minutes. This recipe yields about 5 pcs. of the 10 inch rolls.

K

ikiam is a sausage-like dish which originated China and has long been one of the favorite “pica-pica” among Filipinos. It sometimes is added in other Filipino dishes like pancit or is sometimes used as substitute for meat in some veggy-based dishes. Making it is relatively easy as it is similar with lumpiang shanghai. INGREDIENTS: 1lb. Ground pork 2 medium sized onions, purple and white, finely chopped 2 tbsp. toasted dried baby shrimp (toast for 2 mins. in the toaster) 4 stalks celery, finely chopped 1tsp. Salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 tbsp. fish sauce (Squid Brand) 1 tbsp. soy sauce (Kimlan) 2 tbsp. egg white (free range, pure egg white)

Nanay notes: This dish is really very healthy 1 packet dry bean curd as it is high in protein, high wrapper HOW TO DO IT: • Salt the pork. In a bowl, mix well all ingredients except the bean curd wrapper. • Matapos haluin ang lahat ng sangkap. Ihanda na ang inyong bean curd wrapper. • Wet the bean curd wrapper, (comes in irregular sheets) for easier handling. • Put in 3-4 tbsp. of the meat mixture on the wrapper and roll in 10 inches length. • Tuck in the ends and roll the bean curd.

in fiber and very low in fat. You can also replace the ground pork with ground chicken. You can prepare it in batches and put in the fridge individually wrapped and re-heat as wanted. Using kitchen scissors cut in bite size pieces. This dish, is very time consuming to make manually. Takes just minutes for Mrs. Z because she uses Thermomix. For free demo of the Thermomix please call Tita Paulene at 778- 709-9984. Mrs. Z is the author of “The Kitchen Alchemist: Transform your body.
