Foreword Dear friends and colleagues, Welcome to the Holland Film Meeting 2014. We are pleased to present to you this year’s four day event. The programme offers a rich and diverse line-up of seminars, workshops, the HFM CoProduction Platform and plenty of recent films from the Lowlands. Twenty-seven years ago the Holland Film Meeting (HFM) was launched as the international industry programme of the Netherlands Film Festival. Over the years the HFM has been dedicated to supporting and uniting international filmmakers. Our goal is to bring filmmakers together so they can share ideas, experiences and do business in a friendly and conducive environment. Since 2002 the core of the event is the HFM Co-Production Platform which has presented more than 200 films in development resulting in 120 completed productions. This year’s project selection includes a mix of 21 new projects from 15 European countries. In this guide you will find an overview of the HFM programme as well as all necessary practical information. It further contains a list of all guests in attendance: producers, sales agents, distributors, film funds and other film experts. If you have any questions or requests, don’t hesitate to contact us. As in the past most of the events of the HFM are taking place in the Grand Hotel Karel V. This year a brand new venue
is added: the recently opened concert hall TivoliVredenburg in the city heart of Utrecht. If you would like to catch up with the newest Dutch films we recommend you to visit the NFF International Screenings which is the part of the official festival programme with English subtitles. This year the main theme of the NFF is film music and is reflected in different ways across the festival. The Netherlands Film Festival will wrap on Friday the 3rd of October with the Award Ceremony of the Dutch national film awards, the Golden Calves. Last but not least, we would like to thank our partners and sponsors who made the impossible possible. The Holland Film Meeting staff will do its very best to make your stay as comfortable and as profitable as possible. On behalf of the Holland Film Meeting team we wish you all a fruitful and inspiring stay in Utrecht. Let’s swing! Programme The Holland Film Meeting (HMF) offers a wide-ranging seminar programme to international media and film professionals. The line-up includes lectures, panels, workshops, debates and the HFM Co-Production Platform (former Netherlands Production Platform). That is the case of the annual Binger/ Screen International Interview. British journalist Geoffrey Macnab from the leading trade magazine Screen International wil interview a renowned film professional who will share his/her views on the current state of cinema. a_BAHN is a production company specialised in transmedia, documentary and fiction films. They deliberately chose a strong editorial line, the themes and histories of the authors and productions are always engaged and the angle used always new. They do not put any limit to their content. Clearly the companies’ goal is to make people think, to impress them, to push their curiosity and especially to open their eyes. Their purpose: the enrichment of cultures and of knowledge, transforming narrow visions of the world and society. How to challenge the viewer? How to challenge their eyes and raise awareness of political, social, ethical and artistic issues? By daring. All of their design and production work is based on this rule. No compromise any. They work on various forms of narration. Transmedia, documentary, fiction and always try to create feelings for the viewer, thus representation and techniques used are experimental. Aim is so interact, compare points of views and develop a new vision. The ultimate goal is to add external conflicts to the spectator to his own inner conflicts and engage them in this way in the tumult of the present and the doubts of the future.
Founded in Luxembourg in 1995 and in Vienna in 2001. Amour Fou Luxembourg and Amour Fou Vienna realise artistically exceptional feature, documentary and short films for the international market with international and most frequently, European partners. Throughout the process Amour Fou stands for vision and pushing the envelope whether in regard to aesthetics, production or distribution strategies. The focus is on European independent auteur cinema and the distinctive ‘handwriting’ of the directors who work with Amour Fou. The associate partners of Amour Fou Vienna and Amour Fou Luxembourg are Bady Minck and Alexander Dumreicher-Ivanceanu.
