FILMING ON-LOCATION
ON LOCATION: MODERN METROPOLIS, HISTORIC CITIES, THE ALPS, LAKES AND CASTLES The region surrounding Bavaria Film Studios offers an expansive and unique variety of locations for original film projects. The bustling metropolitan city Munich, attracts people from all over the world with its modern universities, international trade fair shows and the “Olympiastadt”. Munich has numerous historical sites including an expansive variety of opulent churches. Although best being known for its charming city center adorned with picturesque architecture and surrounding landscape, Munich also presents an array of urban districts and industrial areas. Only a few kilometers distance outside of Munich, one stumbles upon the allure of the rolling hills of Bavaria. Not only is the landscape dotted with small idyllic villages, but also boasts an array of
small and large lakes, forests and green fields that stretch up to the Alpine Mountains. This region that is only around 100 kilometers from Munich is home to Germany’s tallest mountain standing at about 9,800 ft (3,000 m) tall, “Zugspitze”. In less than a few hours away from Munich are more glacier areas with a respectable and safe infrastructure (this includes: highways, mountain trains, gondolas, hotels, etc.). One-of-a-kind historical film motives encompassing the renaissance era, can be pursued in the old cities of Regensburg and Bamberg. Numerous castles lie in the city itself, if not close-by; for example the Munich “Residenz”, “Nymphenburg” Castle and “Herrenchiemsee”. The world famous “Neuschwanstein” Castle that has been an international fi lm motive for many years is just a bit more than 80 miles (130 km) outside of the city.
