Point of view

MICHAL SIKORA
FIM Europe President
Motorcycles never sleeps – this we can say as, despite poor weather in many European regions, our activities never stops.
We have already concluded first European series which was again very successful SuperEnduro Cup run during four indoor events. In this period we can enjoy the different type of racing basing on ice and snow. We had seen again on ice arena in Sanok/Poland a great racing for one of most thrilling spectacle in our sport - European Ice Speedway Championship. Also a Snowcross European Championship in Finland was an event to remember. In March, differently in muddy conditions, we have officially started the European Motocross Championship season in Cozar/Spain.
But of course more and more events are coming. Last weekend of March and first of April will bring a new opening for European Enduro Championship which will test a new format together with the World
Championships. And of course we cannot wait to see the season start on asphalt surfaces - especially the new series – European Bagger Racing Cup.
In late February the first-ever Conference on Motorcycle Sport Communication in Europe in collaboration with the FMI was held. The primary aim of this new initiative was to share and deepen experiences and methods of communication in motorcycle sports.
We are now focusing on preparations before our next Congress in Gozo island. After a memorable congress in Malta, we are coming back after 10 years to the Mediterranean islands for a weekend full of meetings but also to enjoy beautiful landscapes of the hottest part of Europe.
I wish all of you a fantastic spring with a lot of sport activities and of course enjoy reading our first edition of 2025 FIM Europe Magazine.

Editorial

Dear readers,
DALILA AGRATI
FIM Europe Press Officer
we have left behind 2024, a year filled with many moments, both successes and setbacks, and we now look ahead to a new season.
Although 2025 has just begun, these first few months have already been packed with activities, competitions, and events.
At the start of the year, Italy hosted the 3rd edition of the Motocross European Safety Meeting. FIM Europe and FMI, the Italian Federation, worked closely together to ensure both an international perspective and a strong connection to the national Motocross scene.
In February, the inaugural Conference on Motorcycle Sport Communication in Europe was successfully held in Riccione. Representatives from Federations, journalists, press officers, motorsport professionals, and influencers shared
fresh perspectives on boosting media visibility and audience engagement through workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions.
At the end of March, the Management Council and the Auditors gathered at the General Secretariat in Fiumicino for their first meeting of the year.
From a sporting point of view, we already have two new champions: Fynn Hannemann, who claimed the Superenduro European Championship title, and Lukas Hutla, who has been crowned king of the Ice Speedway Championship. Almost all the championships and cups are now in full swing, and everything is set for another thrilling and exciting season.
Stay tuned!

INSTITUTIONAL NEWS

FIM Deputy CEO and Operations Director
“The initiative of FIM Europe to organise this first workshop goes in the direction of the FIM to be transparent and get closer to all the stakeholders within the motorcycling community. It has been a great opportunity to know better the FIM, FIM Europe and FMI on some topics that do not always reach the mainstream of communication but are fundamental for the organisation of the sport we love. Participation of important newspaper and digital communication managers shows the interest in a more transparent communication. Also, my thanks go to the representatives of the FMNs present to strengthen the communication community and the shared values of the FIM.”

FMI
President
“The conference was an excellent opportunity to share experiences and points of view with leading national and international players in communication. It was an appointment where FIM, FIM Europe and FMI showed their willingness to engage with journalists and press offices to contribute, all together, to the growth and development of motorcycling. I hope that in the years to come there will be other appointments of this kind because I believe they are fundamental in creating a network that helps to give visibility to our sport. I conclude by thanking the FIM and FIM Europe for organising this event in Italy and all the participants for providing excellent contributions.”

Alessandro Sambuco
FIM Europe Secretary General
“The pressing push to deal with issues related to technological development (AI) that proceeds at an exponential speed has forced us to hold this first Conference on Motorcycling Communication in Europe. The need to deal with AI was certainly not the only need. Also, the topics of the positioning of the Motorcycling Institutions within the international sports system, the description of their governance, their characteristic activities and the communication of the various entities operating in the motorcycling world (FMNs, specialised press, teams, fairs, circuits, etc.) needed to be presented and clarified. An audience of journalists and press officers representing printed, digital and social media from seven European countries marked the success of what will be just the first edition of an event that we hope will become annual.”

Key opportunities

Networking with European FMNs communication leaders and press offices
The conference will provide an ideal setting to foster dialogue, share experiences and identify common goals for the future of the European motorcycle sports communication.
In-depth exploration of communication strategies
Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the communication strategies employed by FIM Europe, FMI and FIM, while also discussing how these frameworks can be enhanced to better serve the interests of the media and the broader motorcycle community.
Focus on AI and technology
The event will address the growing influence of AI in communication, offering a chance to explore how technological innovations can be harnessed to optimize engagement and reach for motorcycle sport audiences across Europe.

DIMITRIS MARGARITIS
Chairman of the Public Affair Commission
The 2024 ifz Conference was a significant event in the field of motorcycle safety, bringing together experts and researchers to showcase cutting-edge advancements aimed at making the roads safer for motorcyclists worldwide. At the heart of the event, the FIM Europe Public Affairs Commission played a crucial role in acknowledging the best research papers, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the safety and sustainability of powered two-wheelers (PTWs).
FIM Europe introduced these awards in 2022 to encourage high-quality research and foster innovation in this critical sector. This year’s award ceremony built on the initiative’s success, honoring the most innovative and impactful contributions to motorcycle safety. The jury, consisting of four members—including three from the conference’s scientific committee—had the challenging task of evaluating the numerous submissions based on stringent criteria, such as the novelty of the research, the scientific rigor applied, and the potential real-world impact on improving motorcycle safety. The awards not only celebrated academic excellence but also emphasized the importance of practical solutions that can enhance road safety for motorcyclists across the globe. FIM Europe hoped that these recognitions would serve as an inspiration for future research in PTW safety and motivate researchers to continue exploring new frontiers in this evolving field.
At the 2024 awards ceremony, three papers stood out for their originality and practical applications. The third-place prize of 500 EUR was awarded to Cosimo Lucci and his
co-authors for their paper titled "Are Emergency Steering Assistance Systems the New Frontier for Further Enhancing Motorcyclists’ Safety? 3rd Motocross European Safety Meeting held in Bologna-Faenza, Italy
On Thursday 30th and Friday 31st January FMNs representatives and stakeholders attended a workshop in Italy discussing actual problems and solutions in Motocross racing.

“Safety in Motocross racing is a crucial priority for FIM Europe. It is our responsibility to ensure the well-being of riders, officials and all those involved in the sport. We believe that sharing experiences and continually training our officials is essential to maintaining the highest standards of safety and fostering a secure environment for everyone on the track”.
Michal Sikora, FIM Europe President
Andrea Barbieri, FIM Europe
“As Chairman of the Motocross and Snowcross Commission, I want to thank the FMI and FIM Europe for the precious collaboration in organizing the meeting. Seven FMNs (Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands, San Marino, UK and Sweden) enthusiastically attended the event, in which also some of the major companies in the Motocross field presented their new projects. We will keep on working all together to improve the safety”.
The 3rd edition of the Motocross European Safety Meeting was organized by FIM Europe and FMI, the Italian Motorcycle Federation, on Thursday 30th and Friday 31st January, between Bologna and Faenza.
With their respective skills and established experiences, FIM Europe and FMI worked in close synergy, ensuring both an international background and a direct connection to Motocross at the national level.
The joint work offered an event that overviews the current situation in terms of safety and also helped to create new networks among operators of Motocross. Indeed, the meeting was not only an opportunity for discussion but also for developing concrete guidelines to be applied in all competitions and every area of the discipline.
In these two days of the workshop, participants faced the actual scenario and problems in Motocross, interacting with each other and sharing opinions, solutions and improvements.
The board was intended to empower the skills and knowledge of insiders and officials in improving Motocross security skills, focusing on three main objectives:

• the future of electric propulsion;
• the role of riders between innovation and passion for motorbikes;
• the responsibility for riders’ safety.
An important step towards a safer future, a huge opportunity to deepen visions and discover how technical advances can contribute to making Motocross racing safer.
On Thursday, the meeting welcomed Dainese, SPM, Ducati, Alpinestars and MyLaps, which presented their current projects and innovative solutions for motorcyclists’ safety. The topics: future protection on MX, circuit protections, airbag MX system, electric engines and race control supplies and formula.
On Friday, the group moved to 04 Park Circuit in Faenza: an under-construction circuit restored thanks to the precious collaboration between former MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso, the FMI and the local Municipality. Here, the meeting continued with a track walk and the case study, focusing on the innovative system applied. At the end of the day, FIM and FIM Europe authorities and FMNs representatives had the opportunity to present their projects, with the common goal of sharing experiences and developing together new solutions and ideas.

President of FIM Europe, Member of the FIM Executive Board, PZM President
"It was a pleasure to attend the MACEC General Assembly. For more than 20 years, the federations have had the opportunity to exchange experiences and expand their knowledge, allowing them to operate more efficiently and effectively. I congratulate them on their hard work and achievements."
Andrzej Witkowski
Honorary Vice-President of FIM and FIM Europe, PZM Honorary President
"We are an organization of friends and neighbors whose goal has always been to work together for the development of motorcycle sport, particularly among young people."

During the meeting, the Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (PZM) honored representatives of the federations with commemorative medals, issued to mark PZM’s 75th anniversary.
Since the MACEC General Assembly coincided with International Women's Day, a special sweet gift was prepared for each woman attending the event.
The next MACEC General Assembly will take place in March 2026.

Aleksandra Knyszewska President of MACEC
